There was a The Fresh Market in Massachusetts that I'd go to fairly regularly, and I'm glad one opened in Chicago. This is a smaller format store than I'm used to, but this isn't a negative, nor is it something I can fault them for. Besides, I b elieve there's another location in Wilmette that is larger (I think). As with the Hingham, MA location, there is a lot to love. They have healthier, local, and small-batch items. The shelves are generally well-stocked, though there was a small handful of items that were completely out. There is also a large selection of prepared items, be it cold to take home or hot to eat right then and there. The staff I've worked with so far has been kind and friendly. Cleanliness-wise, I find the store is very clean. However, there was one visit where the area in the back by the coolers was unpleasantly musty. As far as I can tell, this was a one-off. What does make TFM a little less stellar is their prices. Look, I have no issue paying premium prices for premium products. However, when the same can of peas or jar of Nutella costs significantly more, I'm a little less thrilled. With this, TFM works great as a supplement to my usual grocer. This is especially true for prepared items, quality meats, and, of course, snacks! However, the more limited selection and high prices mean it isn't a full replacement for my regular grocer, yet. read more

I loved walking through here with all the options to order. I saw a good review about the sushi, so I got some, and now I'm coming to say the same thing. I was delightfully surprised about the sushi being so good! Buying store bought sushi from the counter can be risky sometimes because the quality just isn't as good. But this salmon sushi was great! I finally got the chance to check out The Fresh Market, which took over Dom's Kitchen + Market. It has the same blueprint and feel, which was nice to see as someone who really liked Dom's! My mom and I came by for a quick lunch. They have a great selection including paninis, bowls, soups, flatbreads, and more! I went with an Italian panini and tortilla soup. The soup was really tasty and the panini was just okay - somehow the sandwich was still super floppy even after being toasted and pressed, and unfortunately there just wasn't much flavor. My mom got a salmon bowl which she loved! We were able to grab a table on the outdoor patio to enjoy our lunch which was great. There's a bar with cocktails as well as coffee, depending on the time of day and vibe you're looking for. I would love to come back here and knock out some work at the coffeebar. This is a rating average of two visits. The first was a 5 the second a 4. The salads are fresh the selection is wonderful but the meals on Tuesday vs Thursday selection was not as eye pleasing. Overall had the salmon and it tasted well. The bowls w chicken and salad are wonderful. Nice blend of shopping and dining @ this upscale abode. Not happy with this store. Loved Plum market and was happy with Dom's but the quality is about on par with big grocery chains. In fact the baquette at Jewel or Aldi is better! Went in today for their one day sale of Lobster Tails and was told they didn't have any. A one day sale with no merchandise is not a good sign. Only thing good was the staff...very pleasant and helpful. Too bad because I Iike supporting small stores but I guess this is just a smaller version of a large chain operation with basically the same merchandise. read more

I loved Dom's so I was really looking forward to Fresh Market opening. The grocery section is nearly identical to Dom's. That part is great. One or two different hot meal booths but nothing too crazy. The biggest difference for me is the coffee and working area. The coffee is not as good as it used to be? I've tried three different drinks and I haven't loved any of them. Plus the music is noticeably louder than is was at Dom's? I never noticed the music before but now it seems extra loud and distracting. So for grocery absolutely, for working maybe not. read more

I just really toured the place but didn't actually buy anything just to note but I honestly wanted to buy everything. It was the soft opening. I don't remember is Don's was as nice but we checked out every station and the selection, presentation and watch the various chef at their station seemed on point, standard grocery selection looked amazing. The smash burgers made me drool a bit and definitely want to head back. They smelled so delicious. The hot ready to eat section look great. Wine tasting station. The butcher/fish monger area looked delicious and so did the pastries. They also have a sushi station with a $5 deal. Its was bustling and people were walking around with wine glass in hand tasting samples like it was a cocktail party. Cool spot. Definitely will be back! read more

I love the Fresh Market here. This location has a similar feel to the old Dom's that was here previously. Select premium products you can only get here along with that warm market feel! They also have premade dinners to warm and serve. Burger station, sushi station, soup and salad station, wine selections and a coffee bar. Awesome food options including bakery items and produce. The people serving the food were wearing masks which is huge plus for hygiene. read more

Recently opened in Lincoln Park - This supermarket is very aesthetically pleasing and so enjoyable to just browse around. The workers are very friendly and the fresh food selection is endless. They have so many options including a hot food bar, fresh pizza, coffee / smoothie, sushi, mediterranean bowls & more. Their mini bakery cookies are so good & I would definitely go back to try more of their fresh foods. A little pricier than most grocery stores but a fun place to get unique snacks & shop around. read more

On Monday, I drove past the store, the outside decoration is so inviting, a lot of Christmas decorations, looks very nice. And they have a pretty sizable parking lot ,so I decided to check it out. The store looks very clean, the merchandise seems very fresh, although the price is a little higher than normal supermarket. Happy that there is a new replacement to Dom's in our neighborhood and on first experience, they're a better fit for the community. I was pleasantly surprised they didn't change the layout as I liked the mix between cafe, market and dry goods that the Dom's experience was. What I did notice is the better mix in product and price. While we loved the fresh and prepared options of Dom's, The Fresh Market has a better mix of national and local brands with what seems to be slightly better pricing. On a busy opening, service was excellent. There was a very long line for the cashier but it moved extremely quickly and everyone was super friendly. read more

My wife and I always enjoy coming to this store. There's a great variety of choices, and the people who work here are consistently wonderful. Yesterday, Basil went above and beyond--he was incredibly kind and friendly when I accidentally spilled my coffee, and he immediately offered to replace it on the house. Older guy manager with white hair stands by doorway trying to talk to people as they try to leave the store. It really creeped me and my girlfriend out. This has happened to me on multiple occasions at this location where I have tried to leave and he is standing in the doorway or entrance trying to talk to me. He does this with every customer coming in including men and woman as they are just trying to leave the store. I have heard some woman customers not like him standing by the door as they try to shop and leave and him coming up to them as they try to leave the store. It really makes me not want to come to this store being bothered by someone as I try to leave the store with my groceries. He says have a good day sir and mame( some woman don't like being called that) which my girlfriend did not like and tries to talk to people as people come and go it's really off putting customer experience that's not done at other high end grocery stores. read more

I was so disgusted to see one of the staff members put his fingers in the food, grab a potato, and put it in his mouth without gloves on. It's just OLD DOMs to us. Its exactly the same. A few changes in the made to order foods and thats about it. I'm glad it's here but was hoping for a different type of atmosphere. I'm so excited that the Fresh Market opened in Lincoln Park! We frequently shopped at another location in the northern suburb whenever we craved sweets or even savory. I personally loved their sushi rolls and maki. I also find their selections more appealing than what Dom's used to have, although I was heartbroken when they abruptly shut down earlier this year. My experiences at The Fresh Market always register as completely DIVINE!! Please allow me to tell a brief story. A few months ago, Whole Foods Market stopped carrying my beloved Sesame Ginger dressing by Cindy's Kitchen. I felt like I existed in a desert without water as it is my favourite dressing on Earth, and I literally use five bottles weekly on my big beautiful salads. I manically searched everywhere in Chicago for this dressing, and lo and behold! I found it at The Fresh Market! At the point of discovery, I called the store often to ensure that a supply existed before I placed my order for curbside pickup. Always helped grandly by Kristin and James at the front of the store, I became curious as to what a shopping experience in store would be. And oh!! It is amazing!! Clean, elegant, and chockfull of beautiful products such as wine, vegan forager yoghurt, and Knudsen tomato juice. I am a grand sushi snob and find the sushi to be the most delicious sushi in town, surpassing the quality of my favourite expensive restaurants. Big beautiful salmon platter for the win! I want to specifically thank Rob in the produce department for keeping a constant supply of my Almond Sesame Ginger dressing by Cindy's Kitchen (a slightly different name but same exact ingredients as Sesame Ginger at Whole Foods mentioned above). Thank you to Meg for helping me to reach that fourth dressing on the shelf yesterday!! She's a shortie like me but could reach so much further!! And thank you to the gentleman who formally worked at Whole Foods on Fullerton who ALWAYS waves and makes me feel so welcome at the store (I know not his name but I shall discover it during my next wonderful shopping trip to The Fresh Market). Happy to finally have a Chicago location! I've been shopping The Fresh Market local suburban locations and in south for years. This location is superior to their traditional stores in offering more onsite dining options and a coffee shop. In addition they largely repurposed Dom's original buildout which has more of an upscale ambiance than their traditional stores. Free valet is a great plus if you're not in walking distance. Great prepared meals full meat and fish counter with choice not found at most grocery stores. Well staffed no waiting for service. A welcome and refreshing addition to the city's grocery scene with more stability and I'm hoping longevity than Dom's. read more

This place used to be Don's, and I'm glad there's a replacement. However, my main issue with this place is that it doesn't accept cash, which is a big deal, especially since it's a grocery store. An absolutely stunning store. Everything looks delicious. The slices of pizza were around $2 or $3 a slice. Not bad at all. I had to refrain from spending too much. The tres leches cake was a must! It looked nice and moist! Then I debated between the lasagna or the meatballs. I'm a huge meatball fan and I feel like you can't go wrong there! Boy, I was wrong! They're absolutely not made in store. I know veal is in the mixture but cheap veal has a very generic flavor.. The density is also a give away of just a processed meatball. Went on Sunday at 11am. They were out of every sandwich but the caprese and rude when we were trying to determine what was available to order. When I ordered the signature hummus bowl from their menu no one knew what it was or how to make it, taking toppings and putting them into the bowl and then deciding it was wrong and taking them out and putting them back onto the assembly line. All in all, this is a grocery store that was not prepared to be a lunch spot like Dom's was. read more

So happy to have a store reopen in the Dom's space so soon and much has been preserved about the old format including some familiar faces including Roger and the folks in the butcher shop and parking lot. The takeout food was highly disappointing. It looked ok and was tasteless and badly prepared. As expensive as Dom's was the prepared food was at least enjoyable. Also Dom's did a great job of carrying baked goods and products from smaller vendors and now the bakery is generic, everything is horribly sweet and lots of interesting products from pasta, to refrigerated items has given way to an overload of candy displays.
