Great grocery store for pretty much everything! Everyone is super nice and willing to help find items. There's a fresh smoothie machine inside. They have fresh seafood of all kinds, organic proteins and produce, fresh flowers, lots of candy and nuts. They also have fresh coffee and nut grinder if you'd like to purchase fresh. Overall I like to shop at Fresh Market mainly for meat. While I am there, I do pickup other items. However, I find that you do have to look at dates. Last week 7/23/23, I went to the location on King St. in Alexandria, Virginia. I purchased a whole chicken, chips, and Buffalo Stampede mix nuts. They are in a dispenser that is self served. I was disappointed. They were stale. Thankfully, I only purchased $3.30 worth of nuts at $9.99 a pound. I purchased nuts from the dispensaries in the past and they were great. read more

This review is solely about the deli. What the hell is going on in the deli? Some months back, later at night just before the deli closed, I ordered a pound of pastrami for sandwiches. I asked for thing cut. The guy cut this meat about a quarter inch thick. It looked like pastrami steaks. I chalked it up to a communication problem, a mistake. IT was also right before closing, and I don't think he wanted to take my deli meat order. Today I went to get some salami - also for sandwiches. I specifically asked for thin cut. The person helping me made no acknowledgement of having heard me ask for thin cut - so I asked again as I saw her cutting it up. She held a slice of salami up - with complete disdain - as if to say - I cannot believe you are asking about the thickness of your deli meat. Okay, this person is having a bad day. It happens. She finishes the salami and I say - can I also please get a half pound of Havarti? Without even acknowledging that she heard me, she turns around and begins to get the Havarti cheese. She has to open a new thing of cheese, and this seems really, really hard for her. As she begins to slice this cheese, I also want to make sure that it is sliced thin. So I ask her to please make it thin sliced. Uh, that is what I am doing! - she says - her voice dripping with attitude. Wow - okay, I didn't think I deserve your bad attitude for asking about the thickness of my cheese slice, I say. I am cutting your cheese! - she yells. Okay, and you're doing so with a horrible attitude, I tell her. She yells - I quit! - and walks away. I have to wait for another person who will finish my order. I tell her that I hope her day improves. She says - I hope your does also! - in a really snarky tone that says - I do not want your day to get better. I get it - we are having what is called a negative interaction. So I simply say - thanks. But after having thought for two seconds, I come to the conclusion - my day isn't going that badly until this ridiculous interaction. So I correct the record - I say - though, so far my day hasn't been that bad. Pretty good, in fact. Whereupon she, from the other corner of the deli section, whips around and crise - oh my god, why do you keep talking!? Ha! What? Where the hell am I? Am I having a flashback to kindergarten and I am having a playground conflict? I just say nothing and wait for another deli person to help finish my order. He kindly did so, and I finished my shopping with no further drama. The kicker - the freaking reason I am writing this review - is that just now I went to make sandwiches which we will be taking on our road trip tomorrow. I am trying to make lunches for my family. And while the second person who helped me put plastic layering (well, one) between the cheese slices - this first person - the angry one - did no layering. So while the cheese is the appropriate thinness, it has stuck together. I might as well have a half pound cube of Havarti cheese. I was with my two kids when all this went down. My 6 year old son keeps asking me - why was that woman yelling? To which I say - I don't know, kid. Why work in a deli if such a simple request as - please make my deli cheese and meat thing sliced - can elicit such a bad attitude. Found both pork belly and daikon at this location! My friend wanted to make pork belly and some fresh pickles that he saw on IG or Tik Tok or something. They carried what we needed to make it however the pork belly was frozen so it took a day to defrost and also not listed upfront. The person working there was kind enough to get it and price it for us. My friends' kid wanted a sticky hand toy and when she was told no had a breakdown. And had to stifle a laugh and she screamed, "I want a sticky -gulps for breath- hand!" So just watch out when you see a toy down any random aisle. We bought the $99 Easter meal that serves 8 to 10. It was handed to us in the store in a big, sturdy insulated, two-handle black carry-all by the manager. We will be able to use it ourselves often in the future. The meal we brought home was exquisite. A huge spiral-sliced ham, fresh green beans in a microwave bag with pepper butter, scalloped potatoes with white cheddar. Fresh pineapple. Yeast rolls. A beautiful cake. All we had to do was heat up each, serve and cut the cake for dessert. The best part is that the ham was so top shelf that no one felt thirsty after eating it. And the sides with the cake? A big wow. This was our first time ordering a complete meal from the Fresh Market and we will continue in the future! read more

Absolutely loved this market! Everything was organized and beautiful. If your looking for special ingredients come here. They have some unique grocery items I usually have to find online. The price range is a bit higher than your normal Kroger but it's definitely worth it. If your a wino like myself, visit there great wine section. You will not be disappointed. The employees are so friendly and helpful as well. Checking out was a different experience. The checker takes all of your groceries out and places them on the counter for you. To be honest, I love coming here just to listen to the music. This is the only grocery store where it's a consistent calm music playing while I browse and shop. It's never too packed here, and unlike other local grocery stores I appreciate they always have more than one line open (Shade to Aldi haha). Even if you are not shopping for a week's worth of groceries, there's something here for everyone. I love that they provide packed fresh ingredients for ready to cook dinners. I also find myself popping in during my lunch break to grab a sandwich or snack. I am never disappointed when I shop here, because the prices are reasonable for what you get and they provide some options that you can not find at other grocers. read more

We just moved to the area and I'm familiar with The Fresh Market in general but this was our first time at this location. It gets stars for selection but we were really disappointed with some things. The first, being our purchase at the deli. We ordered some pastrami and ham. The employee asked several times for us to repeat our order (a pound of each) as he was trying to get it completed and we had patience regarding that but when we got home and saw what he had given us, it was disappointing. The deli meat was sliced much thicker than "deli sliced" and was quite unappealing for sandwiches. We got through the pastrami and when I opened the Black Forest Ham, we saw he gave us the end. Not too happy about being charged for the part we won't be eating. We also noticed a sulfur stench near the flowers but probably would have let that go if I wasn't writing this review. The thing that really bugged was my husband had purchased hamburger buns during this same trip and when we had them the next day, they were moldy. The next day, on his way home from work, he stopped in to get new hamburger buns and explained that the ones he just purchased were moldy. The employee was adamant that he needed to produce the moldy buns in order to get a replacement. Fortunately, the manager was called so he ended up getting his hamburger buns but all this is just too much to put up with to be our go-to grocery store. read more

I needed a quick birthday cake idea, but not really cake because the person it was for doesn't like cake. LOL So I thought about chocolate covered strawberries, and I am so glad that I called around because 24th strawberries here for 19.99 is an AMAZING steal of a deal! There was also a 24 hour notice need it but I called and spoke to someone and they were more than willing is so eager to want to help me get it done within the next few hours. That alone has won my business! I would have paid more than triple this amount for the same thing at other places. I shop at Fresh Market a couple of times a week and I really like the selection of the hot food, desserts and seafood/meat selections. It is a charming store. Their little big meal deals that is like $20 is great for those mid day meal that is already prepped for you and it is hubby fool proof too!! Let's use The Stir Fry meal deal as an example. It is all laid out for you to go each section and choose: Section 1 - pick a protein (chicken, beef, or shrimp) Section 2- Pick a rice Section 3 - Pick a sauce And so forth.... The baked goods are baked by Fresh Market and it is really good. Very homemade tasting. The lemon pound cake is the best, trust me. The employees in the meat dept are always helpful. Of course they have exclusive products where you may not find anywhere else but there are also the regular items you can buy at the regular grocery store for cheaper. read more

Had a taste for some cake & we passed by this store. I've been here in the past, so I knew they'd have some great selections. Unfortunately, the 2 chocolate cakes we selected tasted old and were extremely dry. Not at all what I experienced before. 1 cake was given to us from the back of the bakery by their staff, and the molten cake was just out for us to pick up. I'm disappointed to say the least. I should've just gone to Walmart or somewhere for the price we paid. I'm sure the cake would've been fresher. I'm only giving 3 stars because the service was good. read more

It's right across from Table 7 Antiques and the Mermaid Factory so you can shop for some old goodies, paint a mermaid and have lunch all in the space of a short 1-minute walk! Fabulous! I've visited a few times and this is the standard Fresh Market, it is a chain after all, so it's the same old same old as the one off Laskin Rd. Though I do think the flower department at this store is not nearly as large or as well stocked as the one in Virginia Beach. So that's why they're getting three stars. read more

The only issue I have noticed is that lately some of the staff seemed to be bothered when asked a question. Today I asked if there were any more rolls to go with the little big meal. The one person I asked yelled to the bakery person who said she was working on it and sounded irritated. I stood by the bakery for over five minutes before someone acknowledged me. The gentleman who did was pleasant and promptly provided the rolls. Unfortunately the negative attitude and ignoring of customers is not unusual but luckily it is not the entire staff. read more

Once again be very careful of f their delivery service instacart. Yesterday I placed a delivery order and in addition to being charged 10 percent higher than the marked prices on the items. I was charged for an item I didn't receive. I was charged $53.75 for a package of 4 hamburgers marked $ 13.75. When I contacted Instacart I was told no refunds because I complained when ever there's a problem. I was told by fresh market to use a delivery service. Store was just as I remember it, clean and well-stocked with above average quality (and prices). Despite walking through the bright, color produce arrangements and a friendly interaction with Kelvin at the pre-made food counter, the checkout service was terrible. A friend I was with spent 15 minutes shopping and gathering dinner ingredients before stepping into a checkout line with one other person ahead of her. Cashier never acknowledged either person before walking away for at least 5 minutes (felt like an eternity). Upon return, she called for an employee over the intercom, left her post again to connect with that employee, then walked outside. This was enough to cause my friend to also walk outside, forfeiting the 15 minutes she shopped in hopes of salvaging the rest of her day. The optics of the encounter would have led you to believe the cashier was the only person working; even if that was the case, a simple "I appreciate your patience" and/or "I'll be with you in just a moment!" read more

The service is very different from what it used to be. The deli area employees are very rude and lazy. Ask them for packaged food, and they will disappear for a long time to get a lunch box. I love this Fresh Market and shop here often. Really often because the Harris Teeter is always so crowded. The produce is always fresh, the meat department is fantastic, the desserts are made in house and almost always good (a few are great) and it's easy to pull a meal together and get out quickly. They also feature a lot of items that are not available at huge grocery stores, which is great. The reason for four stars instead of five? The prices on some of the common items, easily found down the street, are crazy. Three dollars for one bell pepper? Seven dollars for a small tub of the same humus you can find at food lion for three fifty? The salad bar is truly depressing. All that beautiful produce across the aisle, and interesting prepared salads in the deli case yet the salad bar is so boring and stuck in the 80's. (Cottage cheese, egg salad, iceberg lettuce, carrots and tomatoes- if they added canned peaches to the selection it would be exactly like the salad bar at a nursing home). Very limited selection of bland, uninteresting fare badly prepared. Rinse off the garbanzo beans please, that sludge from the can is disgusting! Chop the vegetables into bite sized pieces. Have more than two dressings to choose from. Add something crunchy to top your salad (and not just slivered almonds, which aren't really crunchy at all). It's just sad. Updated: I went to Fresh Market today and the salad bar was so much better than it has been in recent months. The bar was full (last time I was there it was about half full), vegetables were cut in bite sized pieces, the garbanzo beans were rinsed, and best of all there were lots of prepared salads with grains and beans to choose from, and many salad dressings. While I still think the salad bar has a ways to go (sunflower seeds and sesame sticks would be nice, as would snow peas, kale and other veggies) it was much improved. read more

My dearest Norfolk Fresh Market, You are my kryptonite. I think about you all the time, night and day. I'm smitten, to put it mildly. Maybe I should deduct more than one star for your abysmal glove practices (touching common spaces, then touching food) since that's just plain nasty and how illnesses are spread, but I realize that then my actions wouldn't line up with my star-rating. The fact is, I just avoid your prepared foods. There's so much more to you that makes me melt, that I can easily overlook that disgusting trait (but, I'll love you even more if you fix it!). Your produce glistens for me when I enter you. Your veggies are always firm and your fungi is never too soft. Your produce skin is unblemished. Your apples are sweet and juicy. Your herbs are potent. Wonderful grocery store with a level of customer service equal to any other large grocery chain. I came in on a Saturday evening when the store was practically empty. I loved the assortment of affordable floral bouqets, the freshness of the produce and meat section, I was an even bigger fan of their large assortment of wines. However, when I had a question, it was nearly impossible to find help in the store, and when I finally found someone they were unable to answer my questions. The checkout line was equally as bad. I really hope that the cashier I had was new, because he was slow, very rough handed when putting items in peoples bags and double charged me for items and could not figure out how to take things off. Since this location is far from where I live, I will probably not come back. The Fresh Market is not my go-to store on the regular but it is a store that I love to stop by when I am looking for specific items! For example, they have an awesome selection of beautiful desserts that I have purchased for special events! They also have a really nice flower and seasonally plants section where I have been able to purchase inexpensive flowers and pumpkins that have lasted quite some time! The Fresh Market does have some really great items such as their section of bulk candy and coffee which they usually have available to taste! Overall, I think this is a great store to visit for specialty and unique items! It may not become the every day store but it does have great items to try! read more

Deli section has the worst customer service. I ended up putting my items back and spoke with manager because it was so unprofessional. They complained that I didn't want the chicken salad put out in the iced display case and requested it from the main display case. This is the second time I've experienced bad service from the deli section and they could use some training on customer service. read more

On a weekday at lunch it wasn't over crowded, so much to choose from, & was so appealing to the eye. If you put the words "market" and "fresh" together, you know you'll draw in the crowds. Luckily, The Fresh Market lives up to these promises. This location is within walking distance of my house and, because of that, is incredibly bad for my budget. And yet oh so good as well. You'll see what I mean. First off, I love the fact that this place is so personable. There are very few pre-packaged meats (& poultry & seafood) or cheeses, so you're forced to interact with someone to receive any of those items: very much living up to that very idealistic feeling of a "market". What packaged items they have available for purchase are good quality. There are so many delicious breads and sweets to choose from, I could probably go into a carb coma just thinking about them. (Onion Rolls! Ohmigoodgollyness!) While I'm on the subject of the deli/butcher/bakery counter... let me just say... I mean... DUDE. Their pre-made food selection is absolutely TO DIE FOR. From potstickers and empanadas, wraps, sandwiches, and pizzas, their little deli case is chock full of deliciousness. And don't get me started on all the ribs and fantastic other bits (mealoaf, mac & cheese, samosas...) they have available. There's also the standard salad bar and a daily selection of 3 different soups. The cheese selection could use some work, not gonna lie, but the hummus wall is every hippie's dream, and the antipasto bar is kept well-stocked. The barrels of coffee are always the hardest thing for me to steer clear of, but I'll generally stop for a $1 coffee from little coffee-pump station. It's perfect to keep your hands from picking up all the goodies in the bulk bins. There's some amazing trail mixes and candies in those, so it's dangerous. So dangerous. **wipes drool away** I believe someone already mentioned the ice cream selection: yes, it's amaze. Such amaze. Wow. This place is so terrible for our budget because we have yet to find a bad wine, and they carry Smartmouth 6-packs. Don't go near the wine or you'll spend all your monies -- even with the 4-pack discount of 10%. Oh beautiful, delicious, wonderful wine. LUCKILY, this lovely place has some fabulous deals throughout the week. Just keep an eye out on their site, on their e-flyers in your email, or in the "Inspirations" publication they'll give you at the store. The Thursday meal deals are fantabulous. So why 4 stars? Because I'm a terrible person and I demand they keep their items stocked! Maybe it's just me, but if you know you have a BOGO on an item, you should probably frequently check to make sure you have that item still on shelves or in the coolers. We really like coming here, my husband is the grill master, they have Top meat quality here and I love love love the Shrimp selection and hoe fresh the seafood is. Veggies are all reasonably priced. Pastas, rice, cereal, eggs, I just go to Farm Fresh for those basic items, those can be priced on the high end not sure why. I love the chocolate bar, you can find pretzels, cookies, candy all to your liking! Good salad bar and my husband and I liked the turkey/deli selection although Boars head wins over the Fresh market Brand any day. We purchased cheese rolls from here those were amazing and they're good reheated or placed in the oven we'll be coming back for them! First place I found pearled couscous so of course that's a star all by itself. Pearled couscous is amazing with any meal of the day.
