Parking lot has been resurfaced. Not new but not bad
    Janelle J.

While visiting family in Norfolk area I heard they had a Piggly Wiggly. Well they actually have a few locations. I chose this location because of the higher ratings. I was pleased to find the parking lot had been resurfaced upon entering the driveway, maybe in the last year or so. I was also relieved to find there wasn't a line out the door for the deli. There was only one person ahead of me. Come to find out they were breaking down and setting up between breakfast and lunch but had a huge pile of bacon and some (steak) fries/potatoes left. Luckily I came to see what was for lunch. I needed some potato salad and other things for a bbq. I did have to spruce the Resers brand potato salad up a bit since it only had relish and pimento in it. I would have liked there to be a PW house version available for purchase since I know various locations make good tasting food in each of the soul regions. I bought a small banana pudding but I didn't like it one bit. I felt highly misled by the Yelper who 'gawked' over it. I make banana pudding too and it lacked flavor all across the board plus it had a gritty-chalky texture. It did have an appealing presentation despite. I'm glad Piggly Wiggly is still around for all these years.

First of all, I was surprised that there is a Piggly Wiggly in the area after living here for many years. The parking lot has some issues when you're maneuvering and others don't respect the flow of traffic. When the store has trucks out front for their bulk sales, you could easily find your vehicle wedged in due to poor parking practices. The lot is in need of resurfacing and when you encounter traffic when exiting. Upon entry to the store, the deli/hot bar area is on the left. When patrons line up to order it creates a bottleneck for those walking in. you have to leave a gap for folks to come in. The ladies who work the deli and hot bar are nice and make an effort to connect and answer your questions. Items for the lunch special rotate and its encouraged to call if you're hankering for a particular item. After getting your items from the deli / hot bar you have to go stand in line and pay as there's no designated cashier for this particular area. The cashiers work fast to get you in and out. Store seems crowded and it does get congested with those seeking the affordable breakfast and lunch options and during bulk sales. The food I purchased was decent. Be forewarned that some of the veggies could be canned. A positive experience and I would revisit the store, hot bar and deli options when in the area.

Don't be afraid to walk in based on the outside appearance. Piggly wiggly is one of the local spots the only locals go to. When you get in line most of the people know each other. The ladies that prepare the trays for you may not know you by name but they know your face when you walk up. Get here early before all the food stuff is gone. They normally have multiple types of sausages, 2 types of bacon, 3 types of eggs, grits, potato wedges, corn beef hash, and apples. The apples haven't been good lately so if you like unsweetened apples go for it. You can get a tray of 3 items for less that $4!! Don't forget to ask for the oj they keep by them

My first time here - only been to one in Louisiana. OMG!! I'm going to need to start walking and running to lose all the weight I'm going to gain!! 4.79$ for a box full of grits, about a 1/4 lb of bacon, corned beef hash , hit links and a biscuit!!! They have a few choices, such as Turkey sausage, potatoe wedges, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs. For the price- NOWHERE will be this ! EVER!! And dammmm It's sooooo good!! Homemade with love!! Can't wait to try the lunch special! I'm hooked! Thank you PIGGLY WIGGLY!!

Cold deli case... I'm only here for the banana pudding!

First let me start by saying thIs store is so damn clean. It's old as ever, but they take pride in this store. I typically only come here for one thing, and that is the banana pudding. I hate to tell you guys how good it is, because I don't want to go here one day and they're sold out. Which happens often. Lol Anyhow they also have a ton of hot food both breakfast and dinner available for purchase. It is all good, I hear people rave about their breakfast, I haven't had an opportunity to try it yet. Simply because of my work schedule, but I think today is going to be that special day. I will update this review once I'm done. They have really good prices on Meat as well, so I always manage to grab a few packs while I'm in here. Their shelf items are a little bit high so go somewhere else to get that. Otherwise I've had nothing but great experiences, even down to finding old snacks that my grandma used to give me growing up and I can't find anywhere else.

Well well well. I've been going here for years. And they have been great. The kitchen staff beats most fast food stores , they take care of you like family . They all need a raise and tip them to show them you care, if you been going there for years.

Just came in to get a couple of simple items for dinner. The ppl in the front of the location who I assume are the Security Guards look at you like you're crazy as soon as you walk in but other than that, I was in and out within a minutes

    At 6:45am..... Store doesn't open to 7am

Not a lot of name brands on the shelves...as expected, except Goya products. But plenty of everything else. Many outdoor and clothing items. Children's clothes and toys. Dropped $77.00 on goods, including anchovies, coffee pods, apple sauce, bird seed, gardening gloves, mushrooms, honey, marzipan bar, bandaids, vinegar, huge water jugs, Old Bay seasoning, Tajik seasoning, citrus scented trash bags and a paper bag to carry the small stuff.

Employees aren't unfriendly, just scarce, semi-avoidant and unhelpful. Today, an employee approached me with "Sir, we don't allow photo taking in our store." When I realized he was serious, I asked for an explanation and to see the corporate policy (he didn't answer); as a Yelper, I shared that photos brought authenticity, then asked if I would be kicked out if I continued. "I've been instructed to ask people not to take pictures." I'm sure there's a reason but I was annoyed! This is Lidl not a government building. Was someone in witness protection? The visit rolled downhill when I saw a sale flyer item I wanted (gingerbread village kit) but the 3 employees I approached couldn't tell me where it was. I found it myself at the very front of the store after I wasted 5-10 minutes of my life I won't get back. For us, future return visits don't look good. If you go, here's a detailed evolution... EARLY PROS? Big parking lot with wide spaces. Fresh bakery items with some uncommon varieties (cherry jelly filled donut) plus free samples. Customer operated digital scales/printers to price your own produce/bakery items. Weekly sales, app specials and perennial markdowns. New store so inside was pretty clean and bright. SO-SO's? Most products are unknown generic brands that you roll the dice on to later learn what to buy/not buy. BYOB: bring your own bags or PAY for theirs. The wannabe department store items in those rear center aisle bins made me chuckle; felt like a swap meet "get your frozen pizzas, pajamas, crepe makers, footballs, and screw drivers over here!" The appeal is gone. So are the samples and scales/printer terminals (ppl were cheating the system). Stock availability is hit and miss, especially with sale items, dairy and baked goods.

World Market in Newport News is the new E-Mart and has only furniture, not the Asian food I was looking for. Overall, I've had consistently great experiences, which is why I wanted to share both the positives and one area that could use some attention. The Fresh Market has one of the best meat counters around. Their filet mignon is my go-to purchase, and it's always been outstanding. Their produce is consistently fresh, and I also love their bakery. They regularly offer unique seasonal and specialty baked goods that are always worth trying. Today, I decided to order their fresh bruschetta because it's not something many stores carry. I was excited to try it, but unfortunately, when it arrived, it didn't look fresh at all. Even though the container is dated to expire tomorrow, it had a milky appearance that made it look unappetizing and, in my opinion, not safe to eat. I understand that products can occasionally slip through the cracks, but I think this is something that should have been noticed before it made it into a customer's order. Whether it's during stocking, by the department team, or at checkout, I hope more attention is given to products that no longer appear fresh, even if they're still within the sell-by date. Overall, this one experience won't keep me from shopping at The Fresh Market. I still highly recommend them for their excellent meat department, fresh produce, bakery, and the convenience of delivery. I just hope they take a closer look at product quality so future customers don't have the same experience. So the next morning I woke up with the intention of drinking my Bizzy Expresso Cold Brew Coffee only to find it expired a month ago which is very concerning and disappointing! It tells me that stores are not paying attention to their products!!
