While visiting family in Norfolk area I heard they had a Piggly Wiggly. Well they actually have a few locations. I chose this location because of the higher ratings. I was pleased to find the parking lot had been resurfaced upon entering the driveway, maybe in the last year or so. I was also relieved to find there wasn't a line out the door for the deli. There was only one person ahead of me. Come to find out they were breaking down and setting up between breakfast and lunch but had a huge pile of bacon and some (steak) fries/potatoes left. Luckily I came to see what was for lunch. I needed some potato salad and other things for a bbq. I did have to spruce the Resers brand potato salad up a bit since it only had relish and pimento in it. I would have liked there to be a PW house version available for purchase since I know various locations make good tasting food in each of the soul regions. I bought a small banana pudding but I didn't like it one bit. I felt highly misled by the Yelper who 'gawked' over it. I make banana pudding too and it lacked flavor all across the board plus it had a gritty-chalky texture. It did have an appealing presentation despite. First of all, I was surprised that there is a Piggly Wiggly in the area after living here for many years. The parking lot has some issues when you're maneuvering and others don't respect the flow of traffic. When the store has trucks out front for their bulk sales, you could easily find your vehicle wedged in due to poor parking practices. The lot is in need of resurfacing and when you encounter traffic when exiting. Upon entry to the store, the deli/hot bar area is on the left. When patrons line up to order it creates a bottleneck for those walking in. you have to leave a gap for folks to come in. The ladies who work the deli and hot bar are nice and make an effort to connect and answer your questions. Items for the lunch special rotate and its encouraged to call if you're hankering for a particular item. After getting your items from the deli / hot bar you have to go stand in line and pay as there's no designated cashier for this particular area. The cashiers work fast to get you in and out. Store seems crowded and it does get congested with those seeking the affordable breakfast and lunch options and during bulk sales. The food I purchased was decent. Be forewarned that some of the veggies could be canned. A positive experience and I would revisit the store, hot bar and deli options when in the area. read more

Don't be afraid to walk in based on the outside appearance. Piggly wiggly is one of the local spots the only locals go to. When you get in line most of the people know each other. The ladies that prepare the trays for you may not know you by name but they know your face when you walk up. Get here early before all the food stuff is gone. They normally have multiple types of sausages, 2 types of bacon, 3 types of eggs, grits, potato wedges, corn beef hash, and apples. My first time here - only been to one in Louisiana. OMG!! I'm going to need to start walking and running to lose all the weight I'm going to gain!! 4.79$ for a box full of grits, about a 1/4 lb of bacon, corned beef hash , hit links and a biscuit!!! First let me start by saying thIs store is so damn clean. It's old as ever, but they take pride in this store. I typically only come here for one thing, and that is the banana pudding. I hate to tell you guys how good it is, because I don't want to go here one day and they're sold out. Which happens often. Lol Anyhow they also have a ton of hot food both breakfast and dinner available for purchase. It is all good, I hear people rave about their breakfast, I haven't had an opportunity to try it yet. Simply because of my work schedule, but I think today is going to be that special day. I will update this review once I'm done. They have really good prices on Meat as well, so I always manage to grab a few packs while I'm in here. Their shelf items are a little bit high so go somewhere else to get that. I just was relieved of my lottery wimnings by an employee at the Princess Anne rd store, she validated one of the two tickets I had that totalled 44.00 she came back and told me that the other one had already been validated which was a lie she said i had 4.00 I asked her to run the ticket again and it came up 40.00 my numbers totalled 44.00 she then charged me 4.00 additional dollars because in the midst of the confusion and arguing I forgot that she already had 4.00 of my dollars. I am a retired veteran. And we love this store. Its our neighborhood store, but that have completely changed. I normally go in there every other day after work and pick some items to cook and Mrs. Dawn is so helpful and professional. I went in Saturday 6/24/2023, and was going to get some ground beef to cook and OMG it was brown and the stickers on the meat was expired. I spoke to young lady that works there and she said that wasn't here Department, so i left and so did another set of family people that was there looking at meet. I came back Sunday after work around 4:37 pm 6/25/2023 next day, same meet is there in the same spot. It was a guy working in that area with an Piggly Wiggle t-shirt on with a weapon sticking out where everyone could see it, it look so unprofessional and Tacky. I asked him about the meat and was explaining to him about the day before, his response was "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT, AIN'T MY DEPARTMENT". So after that a female in the Deli Department yelled out go somewhere else if you don't like it. And the manager Cynthia heard it. So she listen to my complaint and given me the owners name. (Harold), but said Scott is the person that i need to speak with. So i left her my information. I have not received a call yet. This store is the definition of bad management. It's Jun 25th and they had bacon nice and sickly brown with dates of May 20th on the shelf. They close at 10 but took down the tills (thank God as I think about it) over 20mins early with customers inside...(only after they take em down do they notice). Preventing me from buying my nice basket of stuff that I had to look hard for non expired stuff to create. If you wanna get sick or be treated like a pain for being there customer. They have the best and cheapest breakfast in all of Virginia I believe. You have to eat it to believe it. For only $4.50 I got eggs, grits, bacon, sausage and a biscuit. And just not small portion, huge portions. You just can't beat quality food here. Store opens at 7am but you need to be in line at 6:30-6:45 to get a good head start. Used to be Be-Lo. Friendliest staff I've met in a regular grocery store. Meat case has some unusual items not found in the usual chain stores in the area. Boneless chicken breast had a good price. Some other things we looked at were hit and miss for prices. Store is pretty clean and the layout is a bit ... historical... I like history so that works for me. I hate modern stores that make you follow the maze like they want to be Ikea. But again - super friendly staff - every single person I saw spoke to me and made sure I was getting what I needed. read more
