Purchased a few items today including two frozen pot pies/shepherd pies. At the checkout was charged two different prices which was not my understanding at all. The sign had them at two for $7.00. Well that was not to be. Even the manager got involved showing me the photo she took in the frozen section contradicting my interpretation. I should at this point mention that this would not be the first time I have had issues with pricing here. So I always check the receipt. She looked like she was going to dig her heels in and make a federal case out of it but wisely agreed to my version of pricing. Trust me I have far better ways of spending my time than quibbling over two dollars. But she finally saw that it is hardly in the best interest of her employer to lose a customer over such a paltry amount. This is how you do business. It took 11 hours to get here but the food was amazing and I would return and not only eat but they also have my favorite snacks that North Carolina didn't have. Selection and quality of meat was great. Got Apple strudel from the bakery it was so delicious. Some of the items are a bit overpriced. I just picked up fruits and veggies which averaged 20 dollars. Let me preface and say that I moved to Long Island from NJ. The location I went to near montvale, NJ was my favorite. They have a huge candy section, sushi and produce was always fresh and delicious. Always clean and workers were friendly. Now this location in smithtown does not have the candy selection, it does have the mixed nuts and granola which I like but I miss the jelly beans and peach rings. The sushi here also is not as good as NJ. I'm eating a salmon and avocado roll as we speak, and the avocado is hard. They used an avocado that was not yet ripe for the roll. Anyone who eats avocado knows that ruins the whole thing you're eating. Just careless. Also, the bagged salad mixes are never fresh. The expiration is always that day or the day or two after. I feel like the offerings at the pre made food section aren't as creative or ever-changing as the location in NJ. At the meat and fish counter, I have purchased some tasty salmon fillets and shrimp. They do have interesting things offered. But, sometimes the meat is not fresh by grey. I've came to purchase cuts of filet mignon in the past but have had to go elsewhere because the meat at the meat counter was freakin gray. It was like the Not Fresh Market. I do like their roasted chicken salad and lemon orzo. I also like the turkey and Brie wraps and their quiche. I wish the sushi was better, I used to eat sushi from fresh market 3 times a week. I visited this establishment last Wednesday went in for a few essentials , milk meat , produce etc..and with what is going in the world , it is still nice to know their are people who still care to go out of their way. I am referring to the produce and the deli .. I had asked this gentleman who was clearly busy doing his work if he could cut the tops of my carrots off , as well as bringing me a bag of grapes from the back. He was so nice and offered to help me bag all my produce essentials. My husband loved that. I really enjoy coming in to this Fresh Market location. I'm happy that they are in Smithtown, but worried that they are going to last. It's been four years, so perhaps they are here to stay. They always have great "meal deals," which admittedly is the main driver that I do come here to buy it, because it's such a great thing. You get enough food for a full meal and leftovers for another meal, and this is for a family of four! The weekly variety is awesome. I also appreciate the meat counter, and have gotten really interesting burgers, kabobs, and some very tasty cuts of meat for the grill here. I've never tried the seafood, but no real reason why. That will be next. The produce section always seems to be nicely appointed with good options. It is small though. This is one of those types of grocery stores that I put in the "spot-shop" category. While you can certainly buy all your food and household goods here, that can get expensive. The stores that are in this category are Fresh Market, Giuseppe's, Whole Foods, and to some extent, Trader Joes. Baked good are delicious here too, especially the almond cookies.....those are like crack to me! The dairy selection is also extensive and fresh, and I love the option to get a six pack of a variety of cold beers. The deli counter offers a ton of options as well, and there's even sushi if you're so inclined. The reason I say that I hope this place will last is because I've never been in there when the store was crowded. Perhaps its just my timing, but the traffic in this place just seems to be low. I wonder if it's still just an awareness issue. Also, if you're driving past it, unless you saw people walking in our out, you'd assume it was closed. Dark windows, no advertisements, nothing going on outside, etc. To sum up, I'm glad it exists in my neighborhood and I hope to have them as an option for a long time. Organic pumpkin pie, white wine turkey later this week Hawaiian pineapple chicken and organic rice! Yummmm The deli has great dinner deals with fresh food and the chicken dinners are seasoned well. They have meat and seafood on ice /-/no packages !!! What I like the most is the smoothie bar after cleansing! We are what we eat so spending extra money on my food saves pain, money and time dealing with the ailments that come if we don't!!! Honestly I forgot to write this review and now I'm glad I remembered to write it. There was such hype for this store but I hate to say this to you... the hype fell face first into the mud. Maybe the Fresh Market is nicer in Woodbury but this one... I'll leave in the dust. What I don't understand is how Fairway by me in Lake Grove is closing. I am devastated in so many ways it's not even funny. My beloved Cheese and Olives... I will be lost without you. I will continue to find my way to Plainview because I will need my goodies. But this place? Stays open! No disrespect but I saw nothing exciting about this place. I came before Mother's Day and the place was empty and the fish, meat, and bakery department were empty. I don't know if this is standard but the cases were almost bone dry. If I'm remembering correctly I even went earlier in the day on Saturday and still empty. Store was like a ghost town. Next to no employees...no shoppers. They do have a decent beer collection which is cool but other than that it's a swing and a miss. Like Melissa said they have a huge candy section. Why? This cashier and the grocery bagger next her did nothing except talk to one another. Also, one of the items was incorrect and charged me double the cost. As a customer, I had to bag everything myself. All they did was just blindly stare at me as if I should be doing it faster! The store overall is nice but the meat-fish department is the worse. Just left the store around 3:45 and their scales were filthy. I asked the person to weight a fish I was buying and he just put in on the scaled (which was dirty) without any paper. Only one of the meat-fish helpers are freindly most are just angry. This is my LEAST favorite supermarket and it's not the price since I shop almost exclusively at Whole Foods so I sadly know all about "Whole Paycheck". Their organic section is absolutely dismal, I have found a better selection at my local Stop & Shop. I ran in to grab a pint of cherry or grape tomatoes and in every clamshell was mold so please check your produce!! The supermarket itself is very clean but there was no one inside. A lot of workers, 3 customers. There was a Fresh Market in Scarsdale so when this one was opening I didn't bother because I knew there really wasn't much of a hubbub behind it. I'm specifically reviewing the fresh sushi selection, which is soooo good! For sushi it's cheap and always made that day, so always very good. They never fail to have vegetarian options which is what I look for, so I will often stop in for lunch and get a package of vegetable rolls or spring rolls. I've never been disappointed! Am I the only one who's a big fan of checking out new supermarkets? Wanting to see what the buzz was about, on an early-morning visit, we shopped for produce, baked goods and fish. What we got were some unpleasant surprises. The store was poorly lit, and for such a new supermarket, the rest rooms were far from pristine. Several employees wore so much cologne you could easily 'sense' them from several feet away, maybe not the best thing when there's food that could pick up the smell . A small container marked Basmati rice actually turned out to be short-grained sushi rice. Finally...who puts garlic and cinnamon flavors in the same bag of soggy croutons? Yikes. The fish scale did not register the sale price for some fish we wanted, so there was a prolonged wait. And apart from the sale on the fish, everything seemed priced on the high side. We did get a surprise discount, and I can say that the employees were pleasant and helpful, but poorly trained. This is unusual in a newly-opened 'corporate' store. The long-awaited salmon was a hit with luncheon guests, but with so many other nearby shopping choices, I don't think we'll return. read more

Very disappointed with my first experience at Fresh Market. Going there upon recommendation I had high expectations - all I can do here is quote Public Enemy - "don't believe the hype". While the store was neat and organized and the staff was very friendly but the produce section at Fresh Market was anything but "fresh". The apples looked like they were sent rolling down a hill before being put on display and the oranges were moldy! Very, very moldy. It amazes me that this was overlooked since they were so neatly stacked. It should have been extremely visible to the employee tasked with straightening them up since it was immediately visible upon my approach. There is a better selection and quality of produce at Best Market (and I can say that I actually HATE the selection there). I would've overlooked the cost as I was expecting to pay premium prices and probably could have overlooked the moldy oranges because, hey, shi*t happens, but when I got home and went to use the dressing I just purchased, I noticed it was curdled and smelled off. Upon checking the date I learned the product had expired nearly two months prior! Shame on me for not checking the date before leaving the store.....but should I really have to? Shouldn't a place that calls it self "Fresh Market" ensure that the items they are selling are actually....I don't know.....FRESH?? Fresh Market has a decent sized meat counter. The selection of cheeses does not compare to its well known competitor, which it clearly strives to be like. There is candy section which takes up an entire aisle which just seems out of place. In my opinion that space would have been better utilized adding more of a selection of things that matter to someone willing to spend nearly $200 on three bags of groceries. Based on this experience I would rather drive the extra few miles to Whole Foods and know I am getting my monies worth. read more

I actually love this market and it's great selection of foods. The $20 dinner for 4 is an awesome deal which can't be beat. However, the men and boys that work at the meat/ butcher counter are extremely rude and openly disrespectful to minority customers. I am a professional.. a RN.. I am always friendly and respectful, but on 3 different occasions I was treated as if I were not welcome in that Market. I've witnessed these men & boys help Caucasian customers and not only do they greet them, their tone is respectful and friendly. When it was my turn for service the greeting that I got was nasty and a disgusted sounding "what can I get you" accompanied by a grimace and eye roll. The teenager that helped me yesterday was matter of fact and treated me as if I was asking for too much when I ordered 4 burgers. He essentially haphazardly throw together 4 patties or different sizes and throw them up on the counter as he muttered under his breath to his coworker. It's a shame that people feel so confident and comfortable in their racism. I'm a tax paying citizen that saves lives of residents in that community yet I am treated as if I'm an unwelcome intruder. Very nice Italian looking store only problem is it makes Whole Foods look like a good buy. Produce is ridiculously overpriced and you have to hunt for a halfway decent deal. It's also too similar to Uncle Gs around the corner so I don't think it's needed in the area since they're certainly not driving down prices. read more

The best store in Smithtown. Everything is right in front of you. The aisles are large enough to get through with a cart. The fresh roasted chickens are so good! Get them from the counter and not under the heat lamp, though. I go here all the time. Thank god in never have to go to that obnoxious Uncle Giuseppe's. That store I would one store. It's horrible. I have been shopping here for approximately the last three or four months. Originally I found them to be expensive. However they've had some price adjustments which puts them in a very competitive market. Their fresh made products are excellent. They just had their meatloaf meal deal. It was absolutely delicious. It came with the meatloaf 2lb, risotto, a choice of green beans or asparagus and a poundcake. All of this was only $15 and well worth it. I find the produce to be exceptional. It's always fresh. The fruit is tasty not bruised not mealy tasting. The vegetables are always crisp and brightly colored. They have a delicious pizza and a nice deli section. They have a large selection of premade sandwiches that are a good value. For example you can get a turkey & cheese sandwich well decked out for $6.50 . There's always meal deals. For example you can get a chicken and a couple of sides for a few bucks. This week's meal deal is tacos and it is plenty of food for a family of four. The staff is exceptionally friendly. And this store is spotless. I don't question the cleanliness of the work areas everything is very clean here. read more

Please, please, please help this store! I really want it to succeed. I love the music, the juice bar, the people are friendly and I hear great things about your crab cakes. However, today was the third time I've had an issue with freshness. The first was chicken breast on special, another time was an item with an expired date on package. This time it was at the deli case. A side dish seemed rancid, perhaps BC of the oil used ? (Sunflower oil was listed in the ingredients).
