I felt really safe going here because no one is allowed to sit around dining in (it's to-go only). The barista was wearing a mask properly and there is a plexiglass wall in front of the register. Today was my first time ever even hearing about this place but I met a friend in there this afternoon then we had a few appetizers and drinks. I wish I could remember my server's name but she was a brunette who was most likely in her late 20's. What a cute little cafe! I'm so glad there I've found a local business to support rather than going to the "other place". Atmosphere was laid back and feels like it's a neighborhood shop. They have indoor and outdoor (in the summer) seating. Parking is limited if you have to drive here. I didn't ask but the dog treats on the counter is a good indication that they are dog friendly. Another plus in my book! I ordered a BLT and a snicker doodle cookie to go. The BLT was really good. It came with pickles and chips. The cookie was too hard for my taste, as I prefer soft cookies. Tucked away in a quaint, clean neighborhood south of downtown is this nice little shop, marked with what else but a sign with a very friendly looking fox. Upon entry you notice the table and chairs don't really match, which for some odd reason made me feel at home even before I took a seat. If you're ordering a drink you can walk right up to the counter, where they also have some very tasty looking homemade pastries and treats. If you're like me and cane for a meal, they'll ask you to take a seat at a table (which there are plenty of, counting the additional room and very clean patio) and bring you a menu. I ordered the blueberry lavender lemonade, fresh squeezed in house. And oh my god, it was divine. Perfectly refreshing and not so lavendery that it tasted like a candle. For dinner I got a bacon jam avocado tomato grilled cheese panini. It was delightful, not too filling, and the ingredients were noticeably fresh. Coffee shop food doesn't thrill me much, but I'd put this place up there with the best Fort Wayne has to offer. read more

We are regulars, live nearby. Sandwiches, soups & salads are good. I like the building and atmosphere. Unfortunately we'll not be going back. Was there with my 90 yr old Grandpa on a Sat afternoon 5:30, was told they are out of soup (which is one thing he loves). Asked for a discount on some other item to make up for it, or maybe some extra chips. Was told "no" by my waitress. I asked what *can* she do. "Nothing, sorry". I asked for a manager or owner. None available. Asked to leave my number for them to call me. She walked away. Later in the meal, the lady at the next table to the right called the same waitress over to complain of the cold temp (it was cold in there). She told the lady that the kitchen staff gets hot, so they keep the heat down. The lady spoke with me about it for several minutes, expressing her unhappiness. At one point, I waited for a second beer for at 5-10 minutes. Where did she go? It's a small place, I would have seen her. I finally flagged the other waitress to get it, THEN our waitress materialized and brought it. The whole evening was marred by her lack of service, and upset attitude toward me (even though she still kept my tip). Several days later I called to let the owner(s) know. I was told that I had been rude, and other tables apologized on my behalf (there were 3-4 other tables including the cold lady. The other table to the left was a lady and her son, and they left before I did). I asked nameless owner #1 what I said or did that was so rude.. she said "I don't know, but I was told you were rude". I replied that I indeed was not happy for the rest of the meal, but it's not incumbent upon me to put on a happy face so that the waitress will feel better. After some time spent on the phone arguing with owner #1 (she wouldn't tell me her name), and being told over and over that I just wanted free soup (I did not), the conversation ended when she hung up. I called back and asked for the names of the other owners. Owner #2 informed me that she's an owner, and after asking several times, she indicated there are 4. I began to explain my perspective, she cut me off, told me that she heard the previous conversation, and that there's nothing she can say that would please me. I told her that's a defeatist attitude, and that I'm taking my time to call because we like the food and the place, but the service was not a pleasant experience, and that's it's her job to try to resolve the issue. She repeated much of what owner #1 said, and that I need to be friendly and nice if I expect to get anywhere with her (I was calm and steady, but I have laryngitis so I have to speak up to be heard). I reminded her that it's not my job to be friendly and nice, especially when I'm calling *TO HELP*, and that I only expected to be heard and understood, and I'm being gaslighted into thinking that I'm the problem by both her and the other girl (owner #1). THAT'S when the conversation really took an ugly turn. She told me that now I'm just being mean, and that kind of language is not called for. Gobsmacked, I asked here what she was talking about. She did not like that I said the "other girl". Told me that people like me are not welcome. Told her I meant it innocently, and I apologized if it offended her. It was not intentional. She really went off on me, and asked if I wanted her to leave a 50 dollar gift card at the register. I told her "no", I do not want that. She said "good, because I would never do anything for you ever". I made another attempt to divert back to the core issue of the lack of service, she again said that no matter what she said I would never be happy, and after I calmed us down, I told her that what I expected was for an owner/manager to say something like "sorry for your bad experience, we appreciate your business, and being a part of this community. Thank you for your patronage, I'll do my best to correct this". She actually began repeating it back to me. I told her that I don't want to hear her use my own words. Some Pros: -- this place has a very original, unique, local vibe... it's one-of-a-kind! -- many delicious homemade baked goods -- friendly staff -- wonderful cozy ambiance -- spotlessly clean gender-neutral restroom with infant changing station -- the outdoor seating is pet friendly! They'll even bring your pooch a bowl of water. Some Cons: -- you will leave smelling like bacon. Trust me. It's been this way for years. Something about the ventilation system seems to move kitchen air through the seating area... which is no biggie if you like bacon, but can be an issue if you stop for lunch and don't want to go back to work "smelling like the Fox" for the rest of the day. -- the small slice of bread served with soup is cold, untoasted... where a tiny kiss of toast would mean the world! -- waitstaff do not write down orders. They ask what you want, smile, and leave. About 75% of the time, everything's perfect. But if you're missing a condiment, see an ingredient you asked not to include, or something else seems off, be ready to call the server back and point it out. In short, this is an awesome local gem with a few tiny details that could make it even better. If you haven't visited yet, give it a try! A tiny little cafe and a perfect spot to nestle up with an excellent book buddies for a coffee or beer or just stopping in to eat something tasty the atmosphere inside is awesome and full of life and to be clear energetic . The staff is younger and super friendly who help you in suggesting their favorites for either us to order at the counter to go or get seated comfortably and rest is done for you. The menu is always awesome , delicious and smashes hit every single time so that nobody is disappointed and would love to visit again and again I enter in to enjoy the variety of coffees and freshly baked items. My daughter and I checked this place out for breakfast while she was home from college. It's a fun little place. It's has mason jars for your drinks. And different sized coffee cups for your coffee. We both got the garbage plate. While I normally don't like my toast in with my food. It wasn't to bad. It could have been a little better. There was no sugar for my coffee which kind of suprised me. I've been coming to the Friendly Fox for years because it's a gem that is less than five minutes from my house. The food never disappoints; the Cuban, the grilled cheese, and any of the paninis are always fresh and flavorful. However, I have found that whenever I come by myself or accompanied with a group of friends, I do not get treated well service-wise. I am guessing this is because I am 17, and they assume that since I'm young, that they're not going to get tipped well. First of all, this is not true. It's insulting to think just because I'm a teenager that I receive lower-level service, and frankly, it just doesn't make sense. I have had multiple instances of bad service. I was one time sitting outside, and after waiting in the hot sun for about 15 minutes, I literally had to go inside to ask for water, instead of a waitress coming to take my order. Another time, my friends and I came when the restaurant only had a few other tables filled. Once again, we waited forever to just get waters, and after the waitress dropped off our food, she never once came to check up on us. Not to mention, I saw the same waitress checking up on adults every so often. We then waited at least 20-25 minutes after our meal before the bill finally came. The only reason the bill did eventually come was because I went and tracked down the waitress. I'm left with no choice but to leave a smaller tip than I would usually leave, and no it's not because I'm a clueless teenager who doesn't know how to tip, but because I received poor service. It's a shame because I would come here so much more often, but I don't because mediocre service can truly ruin a dining experience. read more

Hands down my favorite cafe in town. They are friendly even when super busy. Their menu is not like a typical cafe. You can tell the chef takes care in planning their menu. I've eaten here twice before. The selection is varied and unique. They offer homemade gluten free bread as a substitute for their usual bread. We had a wonderful evening at Friendly Fox. The restaurant is in an older building with a great welcoming ambiance. We went for drinks and appetizers. There was even live music playing which was a nice addition to our evening. We had a nice spicy and bacon black bean flatbread, lettuce wraps and egg rolls. All were delicious, our favorite being the lettuce wraps. We enjoyed delicious chocolate raspberry macarons for dessert. The only complaint is that they were out of a few beers and food items.
