This place has been on my list since my first visit to the area in 2018 so I'm glad we finally got to check it out for brunch. First note, get yourself on their waitlist before you go, as there will be a wait and there is no indoor waiting area and it's a small restaurant. Luckily we were there in nice weather, so we just walked around the farmers market across the street until we got a text that our table was ready. It was about a 30 minute wait on a Sunday around 10 am. Our food came out quickly and looked great. I was a little bummed that the eggs were overcooked and closer to hard boiled than poached, but the flavors of everything else made up for that. The hollandaise was lemony and bright, and the mushrooms were super flavorful. I loved this other than the eggs! The potatoes were yummy too and nicely seasoned. We were on the way to Burlington from Montreal so decided to stop a little earlier in Winooskie for lunch. I ordered chicken and waffles from the breakfast menu with a glass of VT apple cider while hubby ordered the Turkey Rachel Melt and a maple milkshake. Food was good and came out quick but I did feel really rushed. Partly it was because we had just spent 4 nights in Montreal where people enjoyed their meals at a leisurely pace. Sneakers Bistro is my go-to brunch place in the area. It's walkable, and there's enough street parking nearby. The one thing I don't love is that you can't make reservations. I saw another review that said sneakers "can't handle the traffic" and this is true. Definitely not the place to be at 1130am on a weekend. If you're going on a high traffic day, arrive at open. The eggs Benedict here are really fantastic and the primary reason I love it here. But some other great reasons are the drinks; the coffee drinks are decadent, they offer vegetarian and dairy free options for almost everything, and the brunch cocktails are creative and fun. It's a fantastic location for a casual brunch gathering. The staff here are also really lovely. So friendly, and always offered my dog a bowl of whipped cream and water. It's well lit and the portions are large. It's important to note that they are not diligent about cross-contamination. Celiacs and people with severe allergies be aware of this. I was looking forward to this place but came out very disappointed. From the quality of the food to the service, I wouldn't recommend it. We ordered the benedicts but the eggs were basically hard boiled. They definitely don't know how to poach eggs. The service was awful. Our waitress was uninterested and we had to call her to the table to even refill the coffee, something when eating at a diner should be automatic. Best part of breakfast were the home fries. Visit Date: Aug. 11, 2024 I met with a friend and he had suggest we go to Sneakers - naturally I gave it a shot since I'm from out of town. Overall, my experience was okay. It was great to have been seated right away on a busy Sunday brunch rush but that came with its shortcomings as we realized our server was still frantically busy. Which led to delays in our meal along with forgetting certain requests we've had. But that's not why I rated this place only a 3/5 stars as I understood the nature of being busy. The reason why Sneakers received a 3 out of 5 was because of the lackluster flavors from the Cowboy Hash and side of pancake I opted for instead of toast. I enjoy a great hash combo but the Cowboy was a bit too bland to the point that adding hot sauce and more pepper was needed to elevate its taste. The pancake was okay at best as well - a bit too dry and needed to be supplemented by more butter/syrup than I would've liked. I went today for brunch , We had put our name on the online wait-list while we were still at home, it gave us the wait times so we could calculate when we needed to leave the house , a soon as we got there our table was ready , I'm very happy with the system. The homefries were large pieces but tasted a bit mealy and a little under cooked, There wasn't any seasoning , potatoes need seasoning while cooking , maybe a bit of pepperika , I would have loved the option of onions and peppered to add , I don't believe the potatoes were cooked on the grill but maybe fried in the fryer just to turn it sightly brown. Unfortunately, they seemed to have slid downhill the past few years. This particular visit, we were seated within minutes, which was great. We ordered within minutes, and got our food quickly (almost too quickly)- brought over by someone who was not our original server. My daughter's iced chai was completely watered down, and flavorless. There was an ingredient missing from my omelette and they changed their home fries, which are now a standard pre frozen variety. The waitress never returned to check on us, so I couldn't ask for the missing item, and towards the end of eating, I found a hair in my food. The waitress only returned to drop the check, and then took forever to come back and run it. If you're planning on using a debit/credit card, they are now adding a 3% charge for not paying cash. This is a solid diner serving creative but tasty food in the middle of downtown Winooski. Even on a Monday at lunch, they were pretty popular with the locals. We were lucky enough to get both a parking spot and a table outside and enjoyed a beautiful sunny brunch under an umbrella. My husband got the chicken and waffles, while I got just a side of the Kahlua French toast since we weren't very hungry. The chicken and waffles was pretty good. Not excellent, but decent in terms of flavor and portion. I found myself wishing the chicken was crispier and there was more sausage gravy. But the bites I did have with a little chicken, waffle, runny egg yolk, and sausage gravy were very tasty indeed. My French toast was fine. I thought it needed more Kahlua flavor, but it was nice and eggy without being too sweet. For a side, I thought the price and portion was appropriate. Finally, we couldn't leave without getting a shake. My husband's chocolate milkshake was sadly pretty bad. It tasted like cheap soft serve mixed with Hershey's chocolate syrup, not at all what we were expecting. We didn't end up finishing it. So, the last time I reviewed Sneakers was well before they renovated. Twice. The second time, they added an upstairs. GAME. CHANGER. Now you can go and there might still be a line but it will likely move faster than before! Don't forget to check their online waitlist system--you can put your name in before you get there. Since they changed the system, I can more appropriately rate their food. The last time I went, they had a shrimp and grits that was beautifully made, with lots of butter and shrimp. I couldn't finish it...and that's the nice thing about Sneakers: the portion sizes are still there. Granted, the cost is kind of high, but you're getting what you want. And if what you want is a basic breakfast, they have that. If you want something more interesting, they have that. Coffee is endless and I really appreciate the super nice waitstaff who kept pouring...maybe I didn't need that extra three cups but between the food, the table of eight they set up especially for us upstairs, and the great service, I couldn't help myself! Last visit, last week, they were slammin' and super short staffed and yet made it work. The waitstaff is unparalleled in TCB; Yoav was doing triple duty and made us feel welcomed and relaxed. I ordered the Kahlua-dipped French toast with home fries and subbed the eggs for fruit (there is an up-charge for this). We joined the Yelp wait list, which was an easy process overall. We were seated 10 minutes later than expected, but we weren't in a rush.
