Unremarkable. Do yourself a favor and walk down to Main Street for some artisan-quality chocolate. I ordered a piece of salted caramel fudge and it was cloyingly sweet and tasted like it was made with mediocre quality chocolate. Some of the ice cream had that frosted, freezer-burned look, so I skipped it. The service was fine. Not rude, but not particularly friendly either. It seems like a lot of people have had really bad experiences with this place. My experience wasn't as bad. I just think some of the items are overpriced, but the quality isn't terrible. I tried the raspberry ice cream and milk chocolate fudge. The raspberry ice cream was pretty good. It had a nice balance of sweetness to sourness. They give you a nice little cup to place the ice cream in. Not bad overall, almost like a sorbet. The fudge was even better. It is their specialty. They gave me a very generous serving, but the price was a little bit high. It was super sweet, so if you don't want to be overwhelmed with sugar, don't order it. But it was also rich and delicious. A note on the service, which most people seem to be complaining about. I don't think it's always like that. For me, the service was fine. After being waited on at counter the employee excuses herself and left only to not return yet we could see her at back counter talking to another employee who decided her conversation was more important then us. Wjen we got it was not busy with only two people ahead of us and THREE young ladies behind the counter chatting amongst themselves. The four of us walked in and had to ask for assistance more than once. When the young lady finally came over to help, the young lady she was working with AGAIN came over to rudely interrupt her while we were engaged in converstion. I was walking down 4th street today, when I realized I was craving something sweet. Walking past The Fudgery, with the bright lights on the sign outside, I knew that was the place to go. when I walked in, I could smell all the sweet treats being sold!! Everything looked delicious, but because it was SUCH a hot day, i decided the ice cream was for me. I went with a single scoop of mocha chip, and it was great!! Just for a single scoop, they gave a LOT of ice cream. The ice cream was spectacular, and the coffee flavor was strong. The service here was good, but due to the long line, a little rushed. Stopped in while downtown for Burger Week. Never again. There was no management present and the store was running amuck. I won't be surprised when this location doesn't make it. At least 5 employees working - but yet the young man from the ice cream side had to walk over to the fudge side because the young ladies over in that area COULDN'T be bothered. What a bunch of wasted space and money for the company. It's already expensive for a piece of fudge - but then you have shitty workers. On an extremely hot day, a refreshing shake can offset a lot of shortcomings, and it was good enough to give an extra half-star to an otherwise 2.5 star experience. The deep chocolate flavor of Dutch chocolate was on par and the creaminess was great. Size was just right. The service was much slower than the length of the line indicated, and the floor was very sticky. I think it was just too hot for the staff and they were probably exhausted from a large workload prior to our visit. I saw dirty glass where the product was, messy cash register, dirty floors and the most important one to ME....the employees weren't wearing hair nets while preparing the fudge. Very disappointing. Ridiculously long wait because there were only two workers. The poor girl, Raven, was having to wait on every customer herself and check them out as well while the fella working with her repeatedly wiped down a counter with a rag directly next to a long uncut piece of fudge. At one point he wrung the dirty rag water onto the counter with the fudge. He never once helped the customers and completely ignored the fact that the line was way out the door of the shop. Customers were given their order and made to wait to the right of the cash register while the one worker served more customers. After she had a good group served, she would stop serving to cash out the people standing waiting with their orders. People could have very easily just walked out without paying. All while the other worker just kept wiping the same counter over and over. The shop had no cones at all and was out of more than half of the ice cream flavors. While walking around town I saw there was a fudge spot near by and had to stop in! I can't pass up a fresh fudge spot!! Walked in and there were no other customers, so we were able to walk right up. I asked to taste one fudge flavor, the lady helping me was happy to give me a sample. After trying it, I decided to get a different flavor. We got the fudge, ordered and fresh squeezed lemonade and paid. Then we waiting for 10 min for someone to actually make the lemonade...one person kept helping other customers, one was cleaning the fudge stations and the third employee was making waffle cones...no one would stop what they were doing to make our lemonade and no one acknowledged that we were waiting. Beautiful place... loved the smell of cooking fudge wafting out the open doors --- that's what got us to come in. Super friendly employees... but... the desserts? The actual reason we came in? Just disappointing. We tried the caramel praline and it was too soft and lacking much nutty flavor. We tried the chocolate and nut-encrusted toffee and, once again, just not much flavor. Just tasted like plain ol' sugar, not even very caramel / toffee flavored. The chocolate coating was very bland and there were VERY few nuts inside the toffee. $7.95 for a piece of toffee is a super steep price if it doesn't deliver on taste. Honestly, this place is on fourth street and in my personal opinion that is all it really has to offer is the location and it's intriguing sign. I'm not knocking the fudge it's okay, but for the price and where it is at I was hoping for a better ambience and more options. First off, we stood at the counter to order while three employees chatted together. When someone finally came over, I ordered half pound of pralines for $8.99. He asked which item was pralines. Proceeded to take them to the counter where another gentleman was on a personal call and ringing us up. He never spoke to me, said my total was $17.98. I told him that I ordered half a pound. He said that is half a pound. I told him the sign says half a pound for $8.99. He continues talking in her personal call until I told him that I wasn't paying $17.98 because I only wanted half a pound. He began cursing, asked his friend to call him back, complained his drawer was going to be off and he couldn't cancel the transaction. He dropped a praline on the floor, picked it back up and told me my total was $4.99. (Still not half a pound, but I paid and left.) Will never be back. read more

I find it a little creepy when people sing and look me right in the eyes - the Happy Birthday song has never been a good moment for me. So when I was lured into The Fudgery by the smell of choice confections, I was taken aback by the soulful sounds of R&B-esque show tune covers belted out while the workers diligently kneaded loaves of fudge. Given my love of chocolate, I had to put that all aside and bask in the aroma of sugary heaven. My one complaint is this: You have to buy a large quantity of fudge. They only sell half pounds and pounds... I wanted a sliver so I left empty handed. Though I did not get to indulge in fudge this particular time, I have had the pleasure of enjoying their fudge previously, at their grand opening. My coworker brought in a pound each of 10 different kinds of fudge for a mid day tasting. Oh my. Diabetes, I welcome you. I could write about sweets all day so I leave you with this: Eat fudge from The Fudgery. Screw your waistline and throw your diet out the window for five minutes so you slip into a confectionery coma. Your soul will be happy, and that is more important than your body. read more

Now, don't ask me why a fudge place needs a barbershop quartet, but I guess when your extremely overpriced fudge that tastes like it's been sitting behind glass since Christmas (I was here in June) isn't selling--and for good reason--you need a gimmick. But why not just make a better product? The reason, I'm sure, the fudge was so stale and hard was because they don't move it quickly. Why? Because it's $8 for one thin slice. Why not lower your price a bit to move your product more quickly and thereby keep the fudge fresh? Finally, as another poster said, hot fudge / fudge isn't rocket science. That is, making fudge isn't difficult . . . anyone can make it, it doesn't take long, and it doesn't cost much. That makes selling stale fudge even more unconscionable. read more

The Fudgery has amazing fudge and great tasting ice cream, don't get me wrong. But the cleanliness of the shop and the attitude of some of the workers is dismal. My sister and I ordered two scoops of ice cream (it's cheaper to order two scoops together rather than two individual scoops). Mine was fine, but my sister's was not. First, they were almost out of their signature flavor, the pecan ice cream. You would think the store would have more of their signature ice cream, especially as it was only around the middle of the day. I guess not. The server decided to scoop out the rest of the ice cream and give it to my sister. It was more liquid than solid. As my sister started eating, she noticed a plastic spoon in the bottom of her cup. That is disgusting, but what was worse is that the server almost refused to give my sister a new scoop of ice cream as "the spoon is probably clean". Unacceptable. My sister demanded a new scoop, to which the server eventually complied. However, the server was also reluctant to give my sister the same toppings as she had on her initial scoop. As you can understand, the service (and cleanliness) was absolutely terrible. The only reason the store doesn't get a single star is because the ice cream and fudge are legitimately good, and the fudge is made fresh in front of you. I don't recommend going to the Fudgery. If you do, make note of the stores "B" rating of cleanliness, and check your food for spoons. But get the fudge. The fudge is great. read more

After a disappointing meal at another 4th Street restaurant, we decided fudge might be a way to spoil our taste buds. So we stepped right up and checked out the Fudgery. It all felt kind of like the county fair or maybe a vacation tourist spot. It was a bit weird and the employees were a bit unorganized. When the cashier finally came up to take our order he couldn't ring us up because another employee had the key to the register. So he went in the back for a while, then came out with the other employee who unlocked the register. He dropped things a few times (not the fudge, thank goodness).
