Wow! Stepping into The Game Chest is like stepping into a whole new world full of games and toys! I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we walked in here but it was pure gaming sensory overload. Sure, they've got classic board games like Monopoly but there's so much more I've never even heard of like Cringeworthy or Feelin' Cute. You even rent some games and rent a table and play games there! Aside from games, there's stickers, toys, backpacks and even candy! I was told to arrive 30 minutes before the event, but the store wasn't even open. Many other people were waiting outside as well. I then waited over two hours for the first round to begin. The store also has a policy that if you don't play the first round, you're banned from future events. When I decided to leave after waiting for hours, I overheard another attendee say, "The whore is dropping out." That comment, combined with the overall atmosphere, made me feel unwelcome. Just experienced the rudest employee ever that even my child recognized he was acting a fool. I went in to browse Pokemon cards and asked to see the binder and was rudely approached by someone at the front cashier. He didn't greet us, ask what we needed, he tapped the counter until we told him what we needed and he leaned on the counter huffing and puffing impatiently. We come in here at least once a week and have never experienced this type of service and after today, we'll never come back. Train your employees on customer service skills and encourage them to practice their patience especially when dealing with children. You've lost us as a customer forever. read more

Large game and toy store with a nearly infinite selection. This is the kind of place you kind of wish you'd get accidentally locked into at closing time. Staff is friendly. I had difficulty finding the store since I wasn't familiar with the mall. The mall doesn't have an actual map detailed enough to help you find the store, and when you type "game chest" into the "app" on the kiosk, the store doesn't come up. I finally managed to make the app give me a QR code for directions to the store, and it guided me out through the parking lot when it shouldn't have, but eventually I made it! read more

It's not a perfect game store, by any means, but for a large store in a large mall in the 2020s, The Game Chest is better than most game stores. This is especially true if you're looking for something specific. I came a few days before Christmas, so of course the place was jam-packed with kids and frazzled parents, and not everything was in its proper place, but when I came back to return a backup present I had purchased but didn't end up needing, 87 percent of the physical chaos from the previous week had been cleaned up. They still hadn't restocked, so the store looked slightly picked over, but all the employees I dealt with were helpful and friendly, even if they had to pass me along to a different employee. If you're just browsing, I don't recommend coming here right before Christmas. They have a massive selection, and if you like games, it's good to give yourself a while to go through everything without feeling the need to buy it before someone else does. The perfect game store in my head looks something like Gamesmanship, the store my late Uncle Sam owned for decades, including a decade in South Coast Plaza. That was the '80s and '90s, though, when locally owned mall stores were the premier way to display prestige items. Game stores occupy a very specific and special place in my mind; they're more cultured in a way than toy stores, but they're not usually as stuck up as comic stores, which are also a good place to find specific games, if you can deal with the people who usually work at them. It has its share of cheap flashy junk, which I imagine comprises a good percentage of its sales, but a store that bills itself specifically as a game store should have a great selection--or at least should be able to order anything it doesn't currently carry--and the selection is what makes The Game Chest stand out. Terrible return policy. We bought a yo-yo and it didn't work. We literal bought it and tried it in store and wanted to return it after we bought it. The owner refused. I asked for my money back or store credit and the owner forced me to return it for another one. Don't buy anything here unless you plan on accepting it even if it doesn't work. They will not give you your money back if an item is unsatisfactory. read more

I rented out a game at Game Chest but it was missing an essential piece so it could not be paid. I took the game back to Game Chest and told them about this, and there was NO OFFER TO REPLACE THE PIECE OR REFUND ME. Had a rude employee help me out yesterday around 7:25pm. A 16 year old looking chubby kid. Terrible costumer service, telling me & my 9yr old son the reason he's being disrespectful is because someone pulled a knife on him the day before & called him fat. An incident that had nothing to do with me or my son, yet he decided it was a great idea to tell me & my son while being rude. Huge variety of games and toys. Warning, this place is big and you will get sucked in to looking at everything. My son especially likes to get Pokémon cards here. Staff is very knowledgeable and one staff member even went through his binder to tell him which cards were real and which were fake. Saturdays they host a Pokémon tournament which my son has attended and enjoyed. It runs from 1pm-3pm and they give winners and participants Pokémon cards at the end. I believe they also host a "how to play Pokémon" for kids if they have enough people interested on Saturdays as well. read more

I'd like to start the review saying most of the employees are great. The community of players here mainly magic players are also great. However the owner and her policies do not foster and actively push away the great community of magic players here. I would not recommend you go to this store for magic product and if you want to play in person. The seating is cramped and the prices for preleases are way above that of other stores as of lately. New policies have been put in place to push players out and they are the only store in the area that forces you to pay for commander night by buying something in store rather then giving boosters or hosting the event properly like other stores. Many in the magic community have started leaving due to these problems and will be looking to other game stores that appreciate the good community and treat the players more then just money signs. Hopefully these problems are fixed and I can update my review for the better, but till then I cannot recommend this store for anything magic related PS: Also the organization of cards is horrendous and finding singles is like finding a needle in a haystack. read more

We happened to be walking by and my two kids wanted to go in. Ages 8 and 9. I have three kids which consist of an infant, and two older boys. I left with toys for all three. There is a big variety of toys from Montessori style, musical instruments, interactive, creative and surprisingly there are books that can be purchased to supplement my kids education. My husband and I adore The Game Chest. We enjoy painting miniatures and it's really wonderful having a store close by. Also, I can get gifts for my nieces and nephew at the same time. Besides the enjoyment we get out of it, we wanted to recognize the manager/owner of this establishment. Today there was a very serious incident that was occurring at another store very close. She announced to her staff to come together and escort customers out. She was calm and collected. She also alerted the store next door. She not only hires great employees who are kind and very knowledgeable of products in the store, she cares for her staff and patrons. This store has a great selection of board games. From kids, teens, and adults. Almost like book store for games. They haveboardgames, card games, dice games, D&D, Warhammer, Pokemon, and my favorite game, Magic the Gathering. And mich much more collectables. I was there playing in a Magic the Gathering prerelease tournament. It was my first time playing at this store. The owner of the store was there and was surprised of the huge outcome of players. Even though it was a big group of players and not enough chairs and tables, the staff quickly pushed back displays and set up the extra tables and chairs for the players. Since opening, they have moved locations in the mall to better accommodate game competitions and tournaments. They were previously on the second floor near Nordstrom (which my original photo depicted). They are now on the second floor near Macy's. This is the Macy's that sells women's clothes not the Macy's that sells furniture or men clothing. To figure out what events they are hosting, there is a large chalkboard behind the register. But I am sure you could always call them. The staff here is very enthusiastic about board games and their store. One thing I've learned since my original review is that they offer board game rentals. This is a nice service because it allows you to try out a board game before you purchase it. This is especially helpful with some strategy games that can easily cost you over $60 just to find out that you don't enjoy it. read more

This store has something for everyone and is reminiscent of the card & game shops I grew up with in the 90s and early 2000s. Employees were very courteous and answered all our questions about the products. I was very attracted to the diverse selection of board games, as well as the children's toys for my daughter. I can see that Game Chest tries to build a community of game players since they had tables out for people to play board games, card games, and so on. We just chanced upon this place after having lunch and seeing it out of the corner of my eye as I walked out. This place was tons of fun for my one and three year old girls. It is very spacious, with multiple little demo areas for our kids to test out the toys. There was a little toy kitchen, a dollhouse area, a track for cars, and numerous other fun things to play with. There was a wide variety of toys, including what seemed to be a focus on educational toys. They had a bunch of tables set up for board and card games on the side. The prices seemed very reasonable. I didn't check at the store, but they were selling the Water Why sets at the same price I see them on amazon now. Everyone working there was very friendly, and overall it was a great way to spend 20-30 minutes playing around and buying some fun new toys. Check it out! read more

Being a huge D&D nerd, my boyfriend wanted to stop by this store. We had only been in there for a minute when we saw that they were selling African Dwarf Frogs here and I must say that both of us were completely shocked. We are casual aquarists and we could tell that these critters were NOT in good shape. The frogs were being kept in tiny, dirty, sealed plastic boxes with no filtration, air, or temperature regulation. I thought the goldfish bins at Walmart were inhumane, but this was on another level. Needless to say, a board game store has no business selling exotic pets and I hope they cease this animal abuse soon. read more

Wow! What an unwelcoming experience! The woman who owns this store is incredibly condescending and rude. The whole vibe in this place is negative and it feels like they don't want customers, which is odd for a retail business. My fiancé and I were Christmas shopping and looking at some games that we were considering purchasing for a relative. The owner stared us down the entire time and we couldn't wait to get it of there. As we were leaving she heard my fiancé say to me that she was rude and we'd never go back there and she literally shouted obscenities at us as we exited. My boys love this store because they have an eclectic selection of dragon ball z cards that are difficult for me to find anywhere else. Outside of that, the store isn't organized very well and is overpriced compared to what you can find on Amazon. Also, store managers/workers don't manage throughput well and it's disappointing to see other children walk through and wreck displays and open packages without being addressed. Even worse, today my sister in law got charged for a keychain that broke as she walked past a display, mostly because she was honest enough to tell the store worker. No discount was given from the dumbfounded worker who asked the manager who had no remorse in charging $10 for a broken keychain that wasn't even my sister in law's fault. What kind of toy store does that when someone is being honest? Where is the policy for this? Especially because we had purchased other items AND coming onto yelp I see they offer 20% off for newcomers to the store. Mind blown. I will redirect my spending to other stores in the future. Have fun with those other children walking through and ruining your store that don't buy anything. I hope you learn to not penalize the responsible adults who actually have money to spend. read more

They have a HUGE selection of board games and a lot of great toys for younger kids. My 3 year old found something within the first 2 minutes that he couldn't put down and we ended up buying.
