This was such a cool place to visit in person! I brought my family here today to browse as my kids love the videos on the Bruder YouTube page. There were so many cool trucks to see and huge markdowns that were only available in person. The deals were so good that we ended up buying quite a few trucks and accessories. Such a cool concept!!! If you have kids between ages 3-7 and they love trucks, then this place is amazing!!!! We visited here with our 19 month old son because he absolutely loves every single type of truck. This place was so cool for him and he'll prob enjoy it even more when he's just a little older. When you arrive to the testing facility, there are signs to guide you to the back. The kid can look at all the pictures on a wall of the trucks/vehicles that they can "test" out. Once they choose a photo, you exchange it for the toy! There's a very small playroom that you can take the toy to play with all the neat gadgets and features to see how you like it. Then, once you're done, you can return the toy and exchange it for another one! After you're done playing with the toys, they have a showroom where you can buy your favorite ones! This place could be so dangerous if we lived close by since my son would probabky want to play all the time!!! I once read a LA Times article from the lifestyle section that says Californian men love to drive pickup trucks because they like to pretend they are working class :P Well pretend play is also very important for children and it helps develop many skills. My two boys LOVE pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, construction vehicles, etc, etc... Bruder replicates commercial, farm, emergency, construction vehicles and they are so detailed they are like the real thing. Every night before bed my four year old looks at Bruder trucks on his iPad and tells me all the ones on his wish list. They are sold at specialty stores with the exception of older models at Marshalls/TJMaxx and on Amazon, Diapers.com, eBay, etc... I just recently discovered that they had a US headquarter in the SouthBay. The Bruder showroom has just about everything that they make and I love buying the toy show samples for a fraction. I don't need the box but I do buy new ones also for 10% off :P read more

Drove 150 miles on Monday to look at toys, after looking at their Facebook page and their website neither of them said anything about being closed. This is a great brand of toys and if your local store that carries the brand does not have the specific toy you want, either call, or order online. However, be aware that to order online, you must go to a different website: activetoys.com. Obviously, no toy store can carry every product in this line, so ordering through them is the way to go. The entire ordering process took less than 5 minutes, the sales person (Gina, I believe) was VERY friendly and offered to tell me how to order online or take the order personally. I ordered directly, item will ship today, and allow 4 business days to arrive in Illinois from California. How easy is that? This will make for one happy grandchild :) read more

The Bruder showroom is a small area in their office/warehouse that displays their toy trucks and sells them direct at 25% off retail. They have a wide variety of trucks made mostly 1:16 scale and are extremely detailed and true to the real life versions. They have Caterpillar, Mack, Mercedes, and other makes in a wide variety of vehicles, from cranes to forklifts. They are a little on the pricey side, but with the discount and the quality are well worth it. They even have a series that is their own design, called RoadMax, suited for kids as young as 2. These are less detailed, without some of the sharp edges that the trucks modeled after existing vehicles have, and come in bright vibrant colors. As Shingo mentioned, there is a selection of sale items, overstocks, etc that are deeply discounted. There was a $38 retail tractor for $18 and some trailers for as low as $10. This isn't really a retail store, showroom does sum it up better, but is well worth checking out, and the factory direct discount is great! Quality toys that last a long time and colors don't fade off. We already have 4 trucks that we got at Marshall's and the colors didn't fade even if being outdoors for more than 4 years. We came here today because we saw an ad in a magazine and we came all the way here to check it out. Kids pick up a truck that they would like to play and give it to the girl in the office. She then gives him/her the selection and the kids can play in the testing area where there is a pit ballet . Our sons loved it that they could try as many trucks as possible and even played with other kids. There were two other kids there on a Friday afternoon. We ended up buying an Ambulance! Toys are on the pricier end but we know that they do last a long time. I even saw one of the mom bring some trucks that needed repair and the girl in the office took it for repair! read more

but SERIOUSLY. this place is truck heaven! when you're gonna drop serious cash money for a toy, you definitely want to try before you buy (or because i guess i'm a "tiger mom," it's actually my preschool son who will be buying anything with his saved-up gift money). for those of you unfamiliar with the brand, Bruder is a German toy company that makes scale models of real-world trucks: construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, commercial vehicles... and their stuff is well-made and sturdy, with working parts and plenty of opportunity for hours of imaginative play. do call ahead and make sure they are open; once we went and it was "employee training" and no one was there; this happens on and off. parking is free and easy in their own parking lot. the Bruder showroom is really well-thought-out, with a great system for keeping play fair and safe, and rather organized too. it's never been crowded other reviews have laid out the whole thing, so i'll just point out that for us, the best things about this setup are: -Tinypants has learned that things that look cool and desirable in a catalogue aren't always as cool and desirable in real life. -he has also learned that sometimes having fun with something for 5 minutes doesn't always mean it'll be fun in 20 minutes. also: things that stay fun after 20 minutes will probably stay fun even longer, and are worth possibly investing in. -it's fun to try things that you might not be sure about in the beginning -share! take turns! use imagination! -air conditioning -thoughtful, reasoned decisions in buying things works better than impulse buying which, i should warn you, is a possibility because they do have a lot of open-box specials. i'd recommend either coming with an idea of what you might be interested in purchasing first, and sticking to that, or living reasonably near Hawthorne so that you can come back the next day and get that truck you guys fell in love with but walked out without getting and then had buyer's remorse after sleeping on it and then hoped against hope it would still be there. (not that this has happened to us, ever, no, of course not, it was a friend...) and parents of girls: this is for you too! PLEASE take your girls to play here; they will love it too. trucks are NOT just for boys! (says a former girl who would've loved to have had this when she was younger). protip: take a few little finger puppet animals with you to be drivers. it makes everything waaaaaay more fun. protip #2: Bruder sells replacement parts for most of their vehicles, so when that snowplow snaps off or crane support breaks after your child crashes it down the stairs, it's only a couple bucks to replace it. My 4 year old son is a huge Bruder fan (and, by extension, so am I). In fact, it was my son that spotted the Bruder sign on the corner of the warehouse. The building turns out to be the US Headquarters for Bruder, as well as the stocking warehouse for Bruder toys and spare parts. As mentioned elsewhere, Bruder toys are very well made with great attention to detail. But even better, they are one of the few companies that sells spare parts for things that might get broken or lost: the crank on a handle, the side view mirror of a truck, the tread of a bulldozer. This sets them apart from nearly all other toy companies and, despite the high price, makes Bruder toys an excellent value. Although the playroom still feels like a room inside a corporate office (which it is), it's amazing to see all the Bruder toys lined up on the walls, all available for purchase at 25% off. By choice I have NOT yet taken my 4 year old -- I'm not sure we'd ever get out of there! But if you're ever in the area, it's well worth the pilgrimage. read more
