Be aware he sold this business to A1 . They don't tell you when you schedule with them that the business has changed . They now charge you 59 dollars for just coming out and tried to tell us we have to pay 1,000 for one broken spring . We said that's robbery he called his boss and said oh ok 400 no warranty. Went to the gym early this morning and noticed my garage door closing oddly. Upon return home, I took a look and saw that, somehow, the J-arm had come disconnected from the door. I was able to reconnect it, but having never encountered something like this before, I wanted to get the door checked out by an expert. I called around to a couple of companies and appreciated The Garage Door Guy being able to send a tech within a couple of hours. Upon arrival, he quickly diagnosed the problem -- the opener and door being improperly installed. The technician was able to adjust the door and opener so it would work again and provided pricing options to have a new door installed. Cost to have the existing door repaired and the quote for the new door seemed very reasonable. I've found my garage door service shop, that's for sure! read more

sure enough, just as I suspected, the garage door failed. It catches on the way up and the way down. Also the seal around the vertical edges is detaching. I will have to pay another garage door company to fix this new door. Owner is not customer friendly and the guy who answers the phone is something else. Lesson learned and all I can do is tell others. Also one of the reviews with 5 stars is an employee of the company. I'm guessing the other 5 star reviews are friends/family. To the person who sent me a message advising me that Robbie McCann was on his way to Robbie himself. Robbie appeared in timely fashion and was all business. He quickly diagnosed the problem with the garage door and fixed it. He also demonstrated the proper way to lubricate the doors. Lubricated them himself and left the can of lube with me. What a great job John from The Garage Door Guy did at my in-laws house. I called and left a message over the Memorial Weekend. Scott called me at 7:00am the day after the holiday and set a same day appointment at 12:00 noon. John contacted me to tell me he was on his way and arrived ahead of time. I explained the problem that was happening (thinking that the garage opener was shot), immediately he knew that the problem was a brittle wire inside the unit and that he would be able to splice a new wire saving us from paying to buy and replace a new opener. Sure enough he opened the unit and pointed out the problem. There was also a frayed cable that need to be replaced, he also tightened the garage spring and adjusted the door tension. It now runs smoothly and quietly and he saved my in-laws from unnecessarily replacing the current garage door opener. I had All American come out to check on a garage door that has been giving me problems. When their tech came out he looked at my door for less than 30 seconds before prescribing a number of parts that needed a full replacement and a bill for over $600. He told me that I had the wrong parts on my door. Something didn't smell right and sent him away. Waiting a while until last night I had been manually opening and closing my door and I broke a cable that sent my door ajar. I had to call someone else and tried The Garage Door Guy. I called and had to leave a message. Received a call back in less than one minute with an apology that I needed to leave a message. (good sign) I was able to get an appt the very next day. The tech came out shook my hand, listened to the background and proceeded to fully inspect my door. He quoted me $140 to get the door aligned (something that wasn't an issue with the first guy) and then we would see what my options were after that. Turns out I didn't have the wrong part. Turns out my wheels were old but should still work for a while before I need replacements. Turns out the original problem was a gear that had disintegrated in my motor. Something the first company didn't mention, though I feel they would have found that after doing all the other work. That ended up being $150. Less than $300, my door is working again and I've found a company I can trust. They will be my first call whenever I need garage door repair or installation as long as I'm in the Twin Cities. When I arrived home last night I drove into the garage as usual and the automatic garage door broke and would not open or close. A cable was broken and it didn't appear that I could fix it myself. I left a message for the company that I had installed the door and has done work for me in the past. (Thousands of dollars worth of work!) Also left them a message on their website. I did get a call early today however saying they could not get to me for two more days. Just too busy! Too busy for a past client? Wow! What was I to do since my car was now captive and I had to get out to go to work. I looked up on Yelp and saw the listing for The Garage Door Guy's. Clever name! I called just before 9:00 AM. the kind lady explained what they would do and how much it would cost and they could be out within the next two hours. A little different from the other company. I agreed. 1.5 hours later the technician called to say he would be at my home in 15 minutes. I was relieved! The service tech came and repaired the cables. He recommended I replace the worn rollers with a better type. No hard sell, just a recommendation. I agreed. The service tech was very friendly knowledgeable and efficient. He had been doing this for twenty years. I made a point to have him tell his owner I found him on Yelp. He serviced the door so that it is now working like new. I was out of the house by 11:30 AM. This company is the best! My garage door suddenly wouldn't close Friday morning around 8:30am on a frigidly cold winter morning. I called and they offered advice to figure out the issue and correct it myself, but we determined the opener was too broken to handle myself. They offered to get someone there same day after noon, but I had appts and countered with Monday instead. Even with snow coming down and school 2 hours late, he made it before 9am and had the opener replaced with a more modern unit in less than 2 hours, taking the old equipment away. No hassle, good price, good equipment and good work. What more can you ask for? read more

Good people right off the bat, the customer service dispatcher that answered my first phone call was super cool and nice, unlike the two "other guys" that I called first who were very unpleasant to talk to, just plain jerks really, plus they had a charge just to come take a look and talk to me. So boy was I happy and relieved once I called these guys! I got my appointment for the very next day, a Saturday at that. The guy that came out gave me an honest evaluation of my door problem and didn't charge to come out, look at it, and talk with me about my options and prices. When my opener takes it's final kerplunk I'll be calling them back to get a new opener installed. I'll be getting their Wi-Fi-enabled opener so I can check your door and open/close it from my phone, and I think he said it was only an extra 50-80 bucks for that feature, pretty nice! read more

We broke a spring on our extremely old garage door. Jon was out, right on time. He not only fixed our spring quickly, but replaced plates, light bulbs, and the seal on the bottom of the door. I had been dealing with a sluggish garage door for almost a week. Upon inspecting the door it appeared that a bracket had broken on the door. We made a phone call and got an appointment within a day. The guy who showed up was polite and had everything he needed to make a quick fix. He was finished in less than 30 minutes. And since it was a relatively simple fix - he performed a full tune-up on the door as well. I would definitely call these guys again! read more

I called The Garage Door Guy based on a referral from a family friend. I wish I hadn't. They get a star only because they promptly call you back and are pleasant to talk to. Besides that, I would not recommend them. They started before I got home, diagnosed the problem incorrectly, "fixed the non issue", and realized their error only after I got home and assured them that wasn't the issue. Which after speaking to me they agreed with. They reset it, which took 2 minutes and required pushing a total of three buttons twice. For that I was charged $120. Then, when the problem reoccurred within two weeks I called the manufacturer and was told it was the travel module and I could replace it myself easily and the part was $18.12, or I could get one on Amazon for $25 ( I looked and that was Amazon's price). I spoke with Tim to see what they would charge since it seemed like an easy fix and they hadn't fixed it for the $120 I had already paid. I was told they would do it for $250! When I told him the part was $18, he sounded shocked I knew that and told me he couldn't get it for that. Apparently this company isn't able to source parts at market value.....? If I could get the part he would charge me $100 to put it in?? So, if the labor is $100 and the part is $18-$25.....where is the remaining $132-$125 coming from? This doesn't even make any sense. He also asked me what they charged me the first time. The employee that was out said that was their base rate, but speaking to Tim I got the impression that they don't have one. I ordered the part for $18 and it took me under 10 minutes to replace the travel module. It fixed the issue and I have zero experience with anything mechanical. These guys were going to vastly overcharge me at $100, the $250 is just them swindling someone they thought had no idea what it would actually cost to replace that part. These guys are dishonest and untrustworthy. I would recommend you find an honest company and run the other way when it comes to this one. read more
