On May 19, I had A1 Garage come out for a tune-up -- $29.99 special. The technician, Ryan, after…read moredoing an inspection told me I needed 12 new rollers for my garage door since the current ones were 28 years old. I called my brother to get his opinion and he said I should probably have them replaced. I wound up paying $191.75 for new rollers, which included having the spring and rollers lubricated, and also included the senior discount. When Ryan came into the house so I could pay the bill, he informed me that my springs needed to be replaced and that the support on my garage door was cracked and should be replaced as well. The cost for both of those things was over $650. I declined to have that additional work done. Note: my garage door springs were replaced in May 2022, so they were not that old.) Two days later (May 22), my garage door broke and wouldn't go up or down. Laying on the garage floor were two screws, which I could see were from the garage door support. I called A1 immediately to get someone out; however, the soonest they could be at my house was May 24. The technician, Phillip, informed me that I needed a new support bracket, which was installed for $145.99. Phillip also told me that I needed new springs and that my garage door opener was old (installed 2011) and should be replaced, too. Both technicians told me that because they did not install the garage springs they could not tightened them. However, Ryan did lubricate them. On May 25, I called the company that originally installed the garage door springs and they came out yesday, May 26. The technician tightened the springs, checked to make sure the equipment could handle the weight of the garage door and that the rollers and springs were lubricated. I am very happy with the work and honesty of this locally-owned company and will never use A1 again. I believe that Ryan up sold me rollers that I did not need. I also do not think it's a coincidence that the garage door support failed two days later. Both technicians tried to talk me into getting new springs, when obviously I don't need them, and a new opener. I also think I was overcharged for the work that was done on my garage door.
