Friendly pubs can really make for an enjoyable and welcoming experience. Great Food and Local beer

    Cottage Pie. Absolutely delicious.

This place was chosen because it was close to the hotel we are staying at. We were greeted with a warm welcome immediately upon stepping foot close to the door. Our server, Fallon, was extremely nice and attentive. I opted for the cottage pie and my husband the burger. Both of our meals were unbelievably delicious. In fact, I could have used a round 2 of my meal. I don't mind spending hard earned money if it's good. And this was definitely a good meal. We are only passing through but are happy we stopped in.

let me just start out the food is honestly pretty good and I would rate it probably a 9/10. ambiance is great, intimate setting and nice outdoor seating. The waitress we had was very well informed and had a good service too. I would say the only thing I would improve on, is either have a shorter time for dinners to come out, or be clear with clients that it'll be a bit before everything comes out because every dish is made fresh. We were talking amongst ourselves at the table and we all mentioned that we don't mind waiting for food especially when its this good, but we would've enjoyed an appetizer while we waited if we knew it would be 45 mins to an hour before our food came out. I think easily with a bit of streamlining this restaurant could be the best in and around niagara.

Excellent food, fast service. We were seated immediately around 4pm on a Friday afternoon. We drove from Rochester NY to spend the weekend in niagara on the lake. Family who visited here before told us about Garrison house. My husband got the shepards pie, I got the fish fry. Both are delicious. Probably the best fish fry and slaw I've ever had. Our drinks were the Jackson triggs sauvignon blanc and the holiday egg nog and coffee martini. Would go back and recommend!

Best fish and chips we've ever had... tomato soup was fabulous as well. And our server? Great! Nothing stuffy at all about him; very personable and fun! We'll be back for sure.

What a fantastic family dinner by a restaurant serving up some great quality food and service + great COVID protocol making the whole experience very comfortable. Headed to NOTL for a seasonal family dinner and after jumping in and out of the car a few times trying to find a place that was being diligent with their health and safety we settled on Garrison. They did a great job checking vax passes, safe seating, serving, and cleaning. The Garrison is a wonderful spot with a quality menu, great selection for everyone, serving up locally inspired and flavourful eats. Most of the brews are local and mix drinks are creative and fun. All the food was such great quality and served hot and tasty with a friendly smile by knowledgeable staff. We started with the calamari and it was AWESOME! Super fresh, large pieces, and serviced with a delicious garlic sriracha sauce. The salads are MASSIVE and I think made with some of the freshest veg and lettuce I've had! The house salad is gently dressed with a bright flavour and features roasted almonds and radishes. 2 of us split this and it probably could have served a 3rd! We also split a burger and DAMN this burger was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Thick local beef patty perfectly cooked medium in a red wine glaze with horseradish mayo, bacon, beer mustard (YUM), and lettuce on a super fresh bun. The burger was served with dang good fresh fries too, crispy and light, hot and perfectly salted. This burger is prob in my top 5 fav burgers! At the table also ordered was the special tomato and fennel soup with fresh croutons and a baguette + the Arctic char special with roasted new potatoes and veg with a tomato chutney and it was beautiful!!! Overall this dinner was so delicious and wonderfully presented! In a tough time with the pandemic, the Garrison is doing a fantastic job at bringing people together over great food in a safe way. Bravo and MANGIA! Definitely check out Garrison if you are in the area!

Ever since I got the steak 3 years ago when I visited Niagara On The Lake, I've been craving it ever since! Was able to come back after a day trip to the wineries and they did not disappoint. They extended their patio so it was nice to be out but sitting inside is nice also as you can see inside the kitchen and see the chefs in action like you see on TV. I asked for a Medium Rare and the steak was cooked the way I liked it. The jus compliments the steak SO well. Makes it juicy and adds some flavour. Never a dry bite. I was worried that the fries would just get soggy on the jus over time but surprisingly they were done before that happened they were enjoyable to eat throughout. Can't wait to come back.

Friendly staff and no wait when we went in for an early dinner. There's a patio with shade plus seating inside. Order the burger if you're really hungry like I was! The oysters were a great starter to share. The location was also very convenient among the popular wineries in this area.

    Chicken sandwich and Garrison burger

So, so good. Partner had the burger and said it was great! The mustard was probably the best part. I got the chicken sandwich. It's made with chicken thighs so it's super juicy and the breading is AMAZING. Fries were also great. The star of the show for both of us was the seasonal mozzarella tomato salad. There were slices of plums and apricots in it as well, and a cherry vinaigrette and the flavors were just perfect together. AND it was gorgeous. To drink, he had the maple old fashioned and I had a peach cider that was absolutely amazing. We'll be back!

Thanks Yelp for pointing us to this gem for a late lunch on a rainy Saturday. Fantastic drinks, oysters, burger, and fish and chips. Naomi was a wonderful server. Atmosphere was comfortable and casual. Highly recommend!

There was one older gentleman standing inside, glaring out the window while talking on a phone, but that just made us uneasy to approach the door. Drove by around 7:30pm the same Saturday night. The "Open" sign was lit, but the place looked empty.

Definitely needs another staff member or two as the drink specialist was also serving the whole restaurant, taking orders and greeting. Including the outside. Although at times we were waiting , for example to pay as it got busier although we waited a while for our bill and drink refills but, it never felt excessively long even with this crutch. Price for quantity, taste , and its classy ambience and style make this place a must go in St. Catharines, even the whole Niagara Region !

Each dish has elevated twist, and the price is so reasonable and even generous for the quality. Cocktails are excellent (lots of line-ups). They also serve nice choices of local craft beers on tap. We ordered: (Food) #Cast Iron Baked Brie fresh baked brie with house-made wild berry compote, candied pecans, prosciutto, garlic crostini $17 : This served as perfect appetizer for 3 of us. Enjoyable. Variety of ways to enjoy the baked brie. #Canadian Striploin 7oz striploin, garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables: We tried different & great steak dish here before, and this one is also EXCELLENT - the on-point seasonings, perfectly med-rare. Roasted veggies and mashed potato leave its own flavour and texture with right amount of seasonings. #Stuffed Mushroom Ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, tossed in a beurre blanc sauce, topped with fresh Parmesan: I wished the ravioli itself had more mushroom-forward flavor, and the wrapper had more delicacy (in terms of thickness and texture). However, I loved the beurre Blanc sauce - it was foamy - making the butter-ly and creamy sauce feel light in the mouth. Nice hint of tangy-ness. #Herb Crusted Salmonwith garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, and beurre blanc sauce: The same sauce as ravioli, that matched with salmon well. (Cocktails) #Fig Fizz: With Durham distillery Gin, Raspberry Liqueur, fig jam, lemon juice, honey syrup, soda # Lavender cosmopolitan # Passion Prosecco Martini # Spicy Hibiscus Margarita All the cocktails were presented beautifully. Today's highlight was Spicy Hibiscus Margarita. (Dessert) Chocolate Espresso Martini Cake rich vanilla cake, mascarpone, house-made chocolate espresso mousse $10: Essentially, tiramisu. lol. Nicely presented. This place is versatile for us. Just for snack, just for cocktails, just for local beer, and elevated food experiences. Promising satisfying experience in each occasion. It's got this '70s rec-room basement vibe that I personally find completely irresistible. If I had a house, I'd want at least one room that looks exactly like what Lonely Diner's got going on. And fortunately, the drinks and food live up to the incredible atmosphere. I started out with the Haw Yeah ("Rum blend, amaro meletti, pernod, hawflakes, high octane black sugar falernum, mulberry grenadine, lime"), which is a delicious spin on a typical tiki drink. I've ordered it twice now, and it's satisfied me completely on both occasions. Another favorite for me is the Lucky Numb-er 8 ("Gin, pomello & lemongrass gentian, cocchi americano, dry vermouth, sichuan peppercorn tincture"), which is their spin on a white Negroni. It's so damn good. It's packed with flavor and definitely reminds me of a Negroni, but like better than any Negroni I've ever had. If that wasn't impressive enough, the food is terrific too. I tried one of their specials, the Wasabi Fried Chicken Sandwich ("Sichuan peppercorn battered fried chicken with a wasabi spiced caesar dressing and anchovies on a brioche bun"), on my latest visit and it's so, so good. The perfectly cooked and impressively juicy chicken is accompanied by an incredibly flavorful assortment of accouterments. I inhaled it, pretty much. I would have to say I absolutely 100% agree with the previous reviews about appetizers. My husband ordered a French onion soup and for the table we ordered the margarita flatbread and the Arancini. My husband said the soup was not very tasty, with a weak broth. The margarita of flatbread had a very nice topping however, however, the flatbread itself was very dry and tasteless. Not a hint of flavor or density to the dough. Flatbread can be very tasty if made with some herbs, salt and garlic. As for the Arancini, they were so dry and again had absolutely minimal flavor. Would've been helpful if there was a little more sauce so you could've dragged a piece of the Arancini through it to offer some flavor and moisture. I truly enjoy Arancini and I will say, although these weren't the worst they were definitely not anywhere memorable or enjoyable . As for the charcuterie board, it's nice the way you get to pick what you want and it was well done. The bread that accompanied it was very nice. Wine selection by the glass is sort of lacking in variety. Three Negroni's were ordered for the table and all agreed that there was a shortage of gun in the drinks. The place is very comfortable, with a friendly staff. And while the charcuterie board was very good, please be aware that this place is a little pricey for what you get. As for the apps, they have a limited ability with the size of the kitchen I saw. The person developing the menu should think about what can be prepared in house that will have flavor and be appealing. May I suggest buying a quality flatbread at a local bakery and then just add the toppings. As for French onion soup,it's very easy to not make a good one. French onion soup takes a rich broth with plenty of herbs and flavor, as well as a good amount of onions and the Arancini's at the very least they needed to have some sauce because they were terribly dry.
