Lentil soup, muscles and fried calamari
    Rashika H.

Anytime we visit the area this is where we end up. This place introduced us to ice wine for the first time some 20 years ago and it's still a great find. This time we went in for a snack and boy did it hit the spot. I had the lentil soup which was pretty good after it was rewarmed. Also had the muscles in a garlic, white wine sauce with garlic bread. YUMMM (capitals intentional)! Hubby had the same soup and fried calamari. Service was attentive, polite and accommodating. Ambiance was really nice and open with a clear view of Queen St. We moved to the dining room inside as it still was a bit cool outside on the patio, despite the heater on the patio.

Was in Niagara on the lake for the day just checking out the area and decided I wanted to check out a local spot for lunch. Most restaurants there have menus outside so you can see what's on it in advance. Corks to me had the best options. The wait wasn't long. We asked to be seated on the outside patio which was nice because it was packed and we got the last table available. Our waitress was very nice and gave us plenty of time to go over our menu. I wanted something light so I went with the chicken Ceasar wrap and fries. The fries were crispy and the wrap was full of flavor. Hubby enjoyed the fish and chips. He said it reminded him of getting it in London.

Beautiful place with wonderful service. European country vibes. I loved the window table here with the cute rustic decor. The staff were wonderful and so knowledgeable. A real gem.

Food was out of this world. Recommend the mussels. Service was excellent. Alicia was so friendly and helpful. Wines great. Outdoor patio charming. Highly recommend.

I had the best Lobster sandwich in my life (also the first Lobster sandwich in my life). I was amazed at how quickly they brought our food out. I was worried that the Lobster sandwich would only have a token amount of lobster, but to my surprise, it was loaded. If we are ever back here, will definitely try the rest of the menu. This place is also Kid-friendly, at least for lunch.

Food was great. We all ordered their famous fish and chips recommended by our tour guide. The fish was so juicy , meat melts in your mouth and battered was crispy. The coleslaw was ok but the tartar sauce tasted freshly made. Fresh potatoes fries were bomb. I can see the skin crispy. Service was great. Ambiance was like an English pub when you are in UK. Great place.

Walking around we decided to give corks a try. We were seated on the front porch so it was a bit hot but tolerable. Service and food is solid. Enjoy

THE LOBSTER SANDWICH IS FAKE LOBSTER! So disappointed to find out, after ordering, that the lobster sandwich is made with imitation lobster meat. Nowhere on the menu does it indicate that it is fake meat because I never would have ordered imitation lobster. The sandwich tastes extremely fishy and is such a let down, plus a waste of $28.

Good lunch spot in the busy Old Town area. We parked off the main drag and wandered around looking for a quick lunch where we could have a good salad - this place was popular so we figured it must be good! They have a large patio to take advantage of good summer weather. We both had the rocket salad and they accommodated no walnuts easily. The salad was fresh and exactly what we were craving. We also shared the spring rolls which were good. They have a great wine menu featuring local wines, so we splurged and both had a glass of wine from one of the nearby wineries. There are a few vegetarian options on the menu so if you don't want meat, you'll be able to eat here. The bathrooms are downstairs, so that's something to keep in mind. Overall a good lunch spot in this busy area.

Atmosphere - Very nice. Situated on the main street of town, the restaurant feels like you are dining on the front porch of a friend's screened-in patio. Service - Very Good. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Food - Very Good. The menu is varied and interesting. I had the pork schnitzel and substituted poutine for the potatoes. The schnitzel was very good. It was tender and tasted great. The poutine was a bit too salty, but was good. Overall Value - Very Good. I am puzzled by the many poor reviews. My experience was as good or better than my dinner at Zee's Grill (a 4 star rated restaurant)

Nestled in the heart of Main Street of Niagara on the Lake, this cafe & wine bar is adorned with stunningly beautiful flowers that you cannot help but stop and take photos of. It drew my husband in to get me to preview their menu. Once he saw that fish & chips was on the menu, he knew there was no way we weren't dining here. And trust me, there are a LOT of choices to eat at Niagara on the Lake. You have the choice of dining either inside or outside. Lucky for us, it was an absolutely perfect day to dine outside underneath an umbrella of a table adjacent to the statue with water where folks were dropping coins with their wishes. The service was welcoming, friendly and attentive. I was surprised at how quickly our food arrived. When it hit the table, it looked delectable and well presented. Any thoughts of the so-so reviews I had read after checking in on Yelp vanished upon our first bites. Our dishes of English Style Fish & Chips and the Grilled New York AAA Striploin were well prepared and indeed delicious. We ate everything on our plates! Note: We didn't order any appetizers or desserts because there are soooooo many food options at Niagara on the Lake that we were sampling a little of everything everywhere in this little heavenly town during our day there. Stop by Shaw Cafe & Wine Bar and you will be glad you did! We are!!

We eventually found it. Upon arrival, the door swung open and struck a seated guest -- a sign of just how small the space is. The restaurant was full except for one four-top (clearly ours), and we stood awkwardly in the entrance -- which is essentially inside the dining room -- waiting to be acknowledged. When greeted, we were asked if we had a reservation. We said yes. "Table for eight?" we were asked, which felt impossible given the size of the room. We clarified four, and were pointed to the only open table. No name was requested; we realistically could have just walked in and taken it. The space is starkly lit with aggressive bright white lighting that feels more clinical than cozy. The artwork is interesting and gives a gallery-like feel -- it seems the restaurant is aiming for a downtown Toronto wine bar aesthetic, but it doesn't quite land. Our table was missing water glasses, and the stemware was mismatched -- not in an intentional, charming way, but more in a "we ran out" way. Once seated, we weren't acknowledged or offered water for nearly 20 minutes. Not rushing guests is one thing; leaving them feeling forgotten is another. When our server finally arrived, the service set the tone for the evening. One glass of water was poured before he realized another was missing. He disappeared, returned with a glass, inspected it mid-pour, then walked away again (dirty glass). After several more trips and long gaps, everyone eventually received water -- about 15 minutes later. He was polite and friendly, just clearly untrained. He shared that the owner is also the sommelier, cook, and server, and that he liked working there because he wasn't expected to know much about wine -- an interesting admission for a wine bar. The owner greeted us warmly but asked only one guest about wine preferences -- ironically the only non-wine drinker at the table. The concept appeared to be sommelier-led, though this was never explained. If that is the intention, engaging the entire table is essential. That said, the wines themselves were enjoyable; the service surrounding them was not. The Taste of Oakville menu promised three curated 3-oz pours paired with a charcuterie board for two. The pours arrived unevenly and slowly, with little explanation of the pairings. The charcuterie boards were plain and inconsistent between tables despite containing similar items -- basic fruit, crostini, simple cured meats, small portions of brie, and two slices of truffle cheese. No crackers, spreads, or thoughtful touches elevated the experience, and presentation varied noticeably. Our second wine pour didn't arrive until our mains, and service moved so slowly we requested a wine list to order a bottle. We were told there is no wine list -- "we're not that kind of restaurant." Instead, all reds are $80 and all whites $70, and the owner selects the bottle for you after asking only red or white. The concept might work if explained upfront; without context, it was confusing. At one point, noticing my empty glass, our server poured me a random red -- which turned out to be the same wine as our first pour -- and then left without serving anyone else. We had to remind staff we were still waiting for our second curated pour. Nothing about the experience felt curated. The most surprising moment of the night came when our mains arrived. As we lifted our appetizer plates -- still holding olive pits, fruit rinds, and crumbs -- the servers told us not to worry about clearing them and proceeded to place our main dishes directly on top of the used plates. I'm still shocked. I wouldn't do that at home, let alone expect it at a Lakeshore, or quite frankly, any restaurant. Two of us ordered the tagliatelle, which was tasty but contained only two small pieces of short rib -- and was difficult to enjoy while staring at discarded rinds beneath the plate. The other two ordered brisket sliders: two sliders, no sides. They tasted good but left diners hungry. One guest joked they kept thinking the fruit rinds were fries -- unfortunately accurate. We tried to make the best of the evening, but it never delivered the cozy wine-and-charcuterie experience we had anticipated -- dim lighting, thoughtful pairings, something special. After finishing our meal, we requested our bills and reminded staff we were still waiting for the third curated pour. We were told "five minutes." Those five minutes never came. Eventually, wanting simply to leave, we paid a single combined bill and sorted it out ourselves. Dinner for four totaled $460. This was not the boutique Lakeshore dining experience we expected, and ultimately, it was deeply disappointing.
