I'm certain their bartenders could accommodate. I've been here on a couple of occasions and have been delighted each time. The interior perfectly suits the name of their establishment and is both comfortable and cozy as well as roomy (plenty of room and elbow space for your group). I love a good smoked cocktail. I love the flavor but also love watching the entire swirling smoky cocktail as it's being created. To me, great cocktails are always delightful, but made slightly more so when their creation is a bit of a show. The service is kind and efficient, their prices are about what you'd expect to pay for specialty cocktails made with quality ingredients, and they have a pool table. Really, what's not to love? I came here on a Saturday night at around 9:30pm and I was surprised to see that it wasn't as busy as I would've expected, but I wasn't complaining! It's a cool vibe when you walk in and there is a pool table if you want some entertainment. My first drink was the smoke & thyme ($12) which despite its name does not have thyme in the drink. After they make the drink they put smoke in it and cover it up when they serve it so it has that smokey presentation when you lift the lid. The drink itself reminds me of a whiskey sour without the egg white but smoked instead, so if you're into whiskey sours you'll love this drink. My second drink was the midnight in manhattan ($12) which is a riff off of a Manhattan and is boozy but slightly sweet and bitter from the averna. The cool thing was that this drink was served in a completely black cocktail glass which just added to the sleekness of the drink. I want to give a shoutout to my bartender Randy (and the other bartender but I never got her name). They were both amazing and we got to chat about road trips and sharing cocktail recipes! read more

I really like this place and I am sure you will too! Not only is the environment welcoming and relaxing, the drinks are pretty dynamic and full of good tastes. Not only are you in for an awesome drink experience (try any drink that they smoke... mind blown), but there is a piano and a few times I have been there is a random patron playing a few tunes. There is a patio for those nicer days. While the patio is lined by bustling cars, it is fun to watch all the activity. Play pool, mingle with friends on the couple of cozy couches, or order some food from the food truck that is outback (you order it, servers will deliver it). Most the time the service is pretty stellar here. I have experienced some slow service a couple of times I made it in. I am compassionate though because the servers had the whole bar to themselves. I will definitely go back and update my review when I have had more than one drink and my memory isn't so impaired. This review is based off of one beer around 11:00 PM with a group of my friends. It was crowded, which is a great sign! We had a bit of a pickle squeezing into one tiny booth, but it was just more reason to love on each other. We also had decent service for how busy it was! Way to go staff! I have no idea what I ordered, but it was definitely a beer. Probably a Lager. I also can't remember what anyone else ordered. After a Yelp event at the Ballet Idaho, my yelpies Yulia Chanda, and I decided to go out for drinks and chit-chat. People at the event were talking about the lantern and since I've never been I thought it would be fun. With the three friends in agreement, we went and had drinks and some snacks. The drinks were top of the line. They have a drink menu and the drinks are funky and fun. The smoked my drink, per my request, but I didn't taste a difference in it. Checked this place out based off recommendations from coworkers.. oh man, am I glad we found this place! If you're in the mood for fancier cocktails, this is the place to be. One of the cocktails I highly recommend is the "smoke & thyme." This incredible drink artfully crafted by the bartender (or mixologist I guess you could say), and placed in a glass box. The box is then filled with oak smoke to infuse into the drink. I am not a whiskey fan at all, and the "wow factor" alone sold me. If vodka and champagne are more "your thing" there is a cocktail for you, and I apologize, the name is completely escaping me now (guess I had a few to many of them) hahaha. Ever since I came across photos of Gas Lantern on their Facebook page I KNEW I had to check them out! They're located a few blocks from the Capitol building in downtown Boise, making this the perfect meet up spot. Right away, we noticed there were a variety of people in here at 8 p.m. on a Tuesday...always a great sign! The place is beautifully appointed (very Joss & Main) and has ample seating and some fun additions like a pool table which was an excellent touch! In terms of drinks, their cocktail menu only features a handful of items ranging between $8-12. They do make well drinks and they serve beer on tap as well but none of those prices were included in the menu. I ordered a drink called Afternoon and my boyfriend tried the only other $8 drink option. Both of the drinks we tried tasted strong. When I go to a place that focuses on cocktails, I've never had to worry about coughing after taking a sip of a mix drink, but here we are. The drinks are beautiful but very small. Furthermore, on top of being miniature, my boyfriends drink was completely filled with ice. It's a fancy place, smaller portions are to be expected, but we still weren't expecting them to be that small. For the price and the buzz it's a 3/5. They also serve food from a food truck but as good as it looks, it's not worth it. The fries worn't fried (possibly baked?), the poutine had a flour tase, and the burgers are incredibly small. We 100% could have had an off-night experience because people have been raving about the food, but nothing stood out as something I'd order again. If you're down for a night out, this place seems like a great spot to pre-party during happy hour. It's only a few blocks from the Grove Plaza, there's ample street parking, and they have drink discounts from 4-6 pm. It didn't end up standing out to me with service, drinks or food, but it's definitely worth stopping by at least once. I strongly feel like we just picked a bad night when service was iffy, drinks were prepared without much attention, and the food truck was starting to slow down for the night (they stop serving at 9 pm fyi). While on a road trip stop in Boise we discovered this gem of a cocktail bar. I can confidently say that this is my favorite stop of the trip. (We covered 4 states!) We rolled into the Gas Lantern at 11pm on a Sunday night. We were excited to find a place that was still open, and even more excited because the bartender Hunter, was genuinely happy to have us. As soon as we sit down he informs us that it's happy hour and hands us the happy hour menu. Craft cocktails for $5 or $6. We had a couple rounds before they closed and promised that we would return the following day. On Monday we returned and were happy to see that things were just as we expected. Our bartender Aidan whipped up some great drinks and provided an excellent experience as well. I truly feel like we've discovered a hidden gem in Boise. If you are looking for a welcoming place to drink great cocktails, this is your place. Everyone that served us seemed excited to be working here and passionate about cocktails. We stopped by the Gas Lantern Drinking Company after a dinner and beer at a nearby brewery. We had a friend who had been and loved to come here for the good whiskey. Looking at the menu, there were so many good drinks to choose from, it was definitely a hard choice! My husband got the Smoke and Thyme and I got the Sestero 29. My husband really enjoyed how they actually smoked what whiskey and took great care with his drink and he asserted it was quite delish! My drink was absolutely fabulous! A perfect blend and well balanced, super easy to drink. Definitely a great menu and drink experience, of that there is no doubt. I will say, service itself wasn't great, albeit we were there Friday until around 11:15 p.m. they had four staff members but there were dirty glasses where we sat down which didn't get cleared until we were getting ready to head out, and we did have to head the the bar to order (not the end of the world). Man... what a cool place! Great decor, awesome location, and amazing drinks! I had the Smoke & Thyme, and it was fantastic. This is a smoked drink where they put it in a container and pump smoke into it, and it really adds a cool dimension to the drink. Very delicious! The staff was super friendly and general vibe is very laid back. This place shares the building with White Dog Brewing and Long Drop Cider. The Smoke & Thyme food truck( probably where they got the drink name from) parks behind this building and provides food for all three places. Interesting place and I hope they get the kinks worked out soon because I'd like to give them another try. I went with a couple friends for after-work cocktails because it sounded so intriguing. I love the location with the large windows that overlook Capital Blvd. on Fulton Street, and their drink menu is so fun and inventive. I had their signature Smoke and Thyme - what a rush! The smoky aroma of the drink made it unique. My second drink was the Buddy Bolden (come on, I just had to try something that has bourbon and beet juice?). It was interesting and very strong -- I think I got a buzz off the soused cherries. The service was good, and we had a couple of very nice, friendly waitresses tag-teaming to take care of us. A couple of things I was not crazy about -- first is the noise level. It's a large, unobstructed space, with a high industrial ceiling so the noise level was off the charts. Sitting in a booth, I still had to yell to talk to my friend across the table and lean over to hear her. I'm not sure if it was the patrons or the music or the combination of both, but it's almost deafening. Second, we would have ordered food but couldn't figure out how to get an order from the Smoke and Thyme food truck, so we left early in search of sustenance. I'd suggest that maybe the waitstaff could offer that information when taking drink orders. But maybe since I didn't see anyone eating there, maybe they don't have food. I will be back, but most likely be on a weeknight and I'll wait a month or so. read more

I've come here a few times, usually while my daughter is at ballet (they don't let parents watch) it's a very short walk from the Idaho Ballet Academy. Their drink list is fun and fresh! Love the "death in the afternoon" fresh muddled blackberries, vodka, absinthe and topped with champagne, yes please!!! My husband and some friends ended up here Saturday night to start the night off. We ordered some food from "Smoke and Thyme," it's a food truck that services the three bars on the corner. The poutine wasn't the best, light on the gravy and it was supposed to have blue cheese but I didn't pick up any of the flavor, however, the jalapeño popper egg rolls were so yummy!! Buyer beware I was charged 35 dollars for a Four Roses Old Fashion without being warned that they do not have the standard Four Roses (25 dollar bottle at State-Run). Presumably, there was a miscommunication between myself and the Bartender. However, it would be hard for me to speculate what I would be paying when the cocktail is being made by an individual who doesn't have the sense or knowledge to confirm what model of bourbon I am seeking ( Four Roses Standard, Small Batch, Single Barrel, Small Batch Select). Regardless, it is rather bush league to be making an Old Fashioned with anything better than a standard 7-12 dollar /shot of bourbon as I designate nicer bottles neat or over rocks only. Went here for my third and final time recently. The concept and atmosphere are cool, drinks are good (expensive, but good) but unfortunately cannot get over the service we have gotten every time. The first time I was there, the bartender appeared to be drunk- it was early and there was about 5 people in the whole place. She forgot our drink order (2 drinks) four times and had to keep asking us what we ordered, she was spilling things all over when making the drinks, then made them and forgot to actually put them down in front of us at the bar top. She took our food order and about five minutes later came over and asked us if we wanted to order any food (?). The owner or manager happened to be there and we spoke with him later and he told us it was her birthday the night before and she was super hungover and they were about to send her home. Good choice. This final time I was there, our server suggested a drink order to my friend and told her if she didn't care for it she'd get her something different. My friend didn't care for hers but our server never came back to check on us. So, we flagged down the bartender and informed him, he seemed annoyed and just took it off the table and walked away. About 5min later since we Still couldn't get our server's attention, I went to the bar top to order a new drink for my friend. Fifteen minutes later- still no drink- and no check in from server. I ended up going back to the bar and canceling the drink and he rudely said they were really busy. It didn't seem that busy. I get that the drinks are specialty and take a while to make but cmon, at least pretend to care and be nice. Acknowledging the wait time goes a long way in the service industry. Had to then go back to bar top to ask for our check, he said he'd bring it to me, came back obviously annoyed, slammed it down on then table and walked away. I get it- you're busy, you're annoyed you had to remake a drink, but please be professional, it could have changed the entire experience. The experiences just make it seem like they could care less about your business and their lack of professionalism in a more "upscale" concept bar is disappointing read more
