There are sports TVs on multiple walls showing different games, making it a fun environment to hang out in. They also have a nice selection of tasty local beers. The Service: When we arrived, we were immediately told the kitchen was backed up and that we should probably find somewhere else to go. Because we were unfamiliar with the area and worried about long waits elsewhere, we decided to risk it and stay. Surprisingly, the food only took about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad given the warning. However, it took quite a while just to get our drinks. Later on, it also took a frustratingly long time just to get a side of mayo. The Food: This is where things really went downhill. When the food finally arrived, the fries were completely cold. The burgers looked okay at first glance, but both of our orders were completely wrong. To make matters worse, the burgers were cold too. Because we were exhausted and starving, we just ate what we were given without complaining, but it was incredibly disappointing. Two groups walked in and were seated well after I'd been waiting. They both were given drinks and had their orders taken. I was in the process of walking out when the male waiter finally came to my table and asked if I was leaving. I explained that I had been waiting to order and two other tables that came in well after me had already received their drinks and had their orders taken. He simply said ok, so your leaving? I was more bothered with how unapologetic he was than the wait. I did place an order. The food was good, but not worth the aggravation.

Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! We went inside and while there were tables available, many were still dirty and stayed that way during the duration of our meal. Not a great look for the restaurant. We started the fancy fried pickles and chislic. The fried pickles were different with the prosciutto and mozzarella cheese, but we still enjoyed them. The chislic was tough/chewy and not as good as Thirsty's next door. My husband and I split the buffalo meatloaf. The meatloaf was dry, but I enjoyed the overall flavor. Overall, I was not impressed with this restaurant and was disappointed with service and how the meals were cooked at Murphy's. We just had better food during our trip, so it's hard to recommend this one.
