Cute restaurant with an outdoorsy theme which was very close to our cabin. The hostess and server were friendly, and our food was delivered in a timely manner. I got the raspberry chicken salad, and they were very generous with the toppings. It was very good. My husband got the chicken sandwich with onion rings which he enjoyed. The combo app was definitely previously frozen, and the teriyaki chicken had to be the smallest piece of chicken I've ever been served. The walleye was large but lacked any type of flavor. Salad- tasty homemade dressings. Nice starter. Walleye- so delicious, well prepared, fresh tasting and flaky. It came with homemade tartar and cocktail sauces. They were both really good and complimented the fish well. Mashed potatoes- yummy, slightly lumpy potatoes with butter. Ribs- good and fell off the bone. Nicely sauced. IPA- refreshing and not too hoppy, by Lost Cabin. So Dank, like the name says. Service was excellent. Our server, Manda was attentive and offered good suggestions about the menu. Very nice little gem on your way to Mt Rushmore. you go about a mile off the free way and find this classic. It is a modern building with an old school flair. They even have bands some nights. The fireplace is a great touch. I had the hot turkey sandwich with real massed potato's. They were semi-mashed, which gave it more texture and taste. The Gaslight has a large red lit-up sign that you can't miss! Plenty of parking in the front and is dog friendly when you sit outside. I started with a Bloody Mary which they are apparently famous for, but I thought it was just OK - more tomato juice than the seasonings/spices that it was raved for. We were told if you go to South Dakota, you must try the Chislic and the Indian Taco so that's what we ordered! The Chislic is breaded steak bites and they were actually pretty good. The breading was thick but the steak was juicy, maybe a little bit too chewy. We chose the sweet potato fries which tasted good, thin crispy outside and soft inside. It was also served with a little garlic bread which was a nice touch! The Indian Taco is a fry bread covered with all the taco fixings like refried beans, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, and ground beef. And TBH, I was not impressed. The toppings tasted like cafeteria style. The fry bread was a little soggy too. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here but it had both items on the 'Must Try in SD' list so beats going to 2 different places. read more

When you first walk into the restaurant the interior is a Rustic, old feeling. The food was really good and the drinks were amazing! The service is fast and well done. The Gaslight has been a jewel in the Black Hills since the 1950's. It has had ups and downs and changes in owners and it has been rebuilt several times. The current owners and management are doing an amazing jon with a quality chef and amazing service team. We have been several times in the last two months and have thoroughly enjoyed the menu. Experiences like this really reminds me the need to post positive reviews when it is warranted. Just in case you are sitting on the edge of your seat, this is NOT one of those times!! The good: Greeted and seated immediately. Close to the hotel. Plenty of parking. Food didn't take too long to arrive after ordering. The bad: 18 mins before we were acknowledged by wait staff. Finally able to get our order in. 15 mins, still no drinks (2 Dr Peppers!). Approached by a different waitress, saying she's gonna be waiting on us. Surprised that someone had taken our order...had been 33 mins post seating at this point. She didn't know if our order was put in, but left to get the update and get our drinks. She DID deliver drinks....to 4 other tables, sodas, waters, beer. I was jealous. Before she tried to get an update in the food, it arrived. We never spoke to her again. Now for the food......this is where the inability to leave 1/4 stars really hurts when trying to convey just how absolutely PATHETIC this part of the experience was. 8yr old ordered spaghetti, I had to request the addition of meatballs when we were informed the dish is noodles and marinara sauce. As the owners of this establishment are hopefully reading this review, at this moment I'd like to pause to tell you this: Parents want child friendly options, but STOP patronizing these young folk and provide GOOD tasting food that provides protein!! Back to regularly scheduled review. The food delivered didn't include the meatballs.....or my or my wife's "salad". I use " " in this instance because the side salad was a bowl of iceberg lettuce, with a small cup of dressing. Not even a HINT that there might have been any other typical salad ingredients anywhere remotely close to the kitchen! My wife's country fried steak was obviously a manufactured product that was reminiscent of my primary school lunches from the '70s. My order was titled, "Hog Wings", described as a Pork Shank. It was a singular plate with 2 pork RIBS on it. When I questioned the waitress, I was told that ribs are what makes the wings. She did not comprehend my explanation that a "shank" and a "rib" are not the same cut. She said nodding, "yeah, but it's the wing".‍ I will say it was an adequately cooked rib, however the bbq sauce that slathered it was the only seasoning. So, it's checkout time.....this is done while hovering uncomfortably close to my left shoulder. This, I believe, was purposely done because it naturally put people in a position to give unfair tips. The appearance is the establishment cares more for the locals than the tourists. That's fair, they are the ones that support you all year. The problem with this operational approach, you never know who is just becoming a local, and you have alienated them....oh, the other issue is this pesky internet thing. People like me that will help spread the word that in reality, this place is worth avoiding. The tourists that frequent your establishment are there to experience one of the world's greatest accomplishments, you should strive to be the BEST part of that. My wife said the name is appropriate, because she felt like she was gaslit. My suggestion, drive in to Keystone and enjoy your experience! read more

Superb service by Gary, complete with good recommendations at the restaurant and beyond! Hailing from WV, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the pepperoni rolls as an appetizer.... STUNNED! They were perhaps the best pepperoni roll I've ever eaten! Crispy, crunchy, buttery goodness on the outside & soft (dough) gooey (cheese) on the inside - nothing short of delectable! For our meals we had the chicken Parmesan & bison burger. While we would not recommend the bison burger, the chicken parm was good, especially given so few restaurants in the area have pasta dishes. It's a great atmosphere for family dinners. Depending on the night,good music, I enjoyed the times dancing and wetting my thirst with a fine selection of brews. We were staying at the Rockerville Gold Mining Units across from restaurant and our hosts recommended eating there so we gave it a shot. We should have checked Yelp first before eating there. We were seated right away but shortly after it was getting crowded, so I saw that as a good sign. The bus boy gave us our waters, but we sat there waiting for our waitress for 15 mins. We finally grabbed bus boy again and asked for waitress. A waitress came over and apologized and said there was a miscommunication. She was very sweet and was apologetic. We understand that miscommunication happens. We ordered and our food came--our appetizer came out with the meals... The bar messed up my husband's beer order--but it got remedied. My ribeye was bland--not seasoned at all and very gristly. Baked potato that came with it was hardly loaded--but it was still tasty. Husband got Cajun Pasta and he said it was okay. Stopped in early on a Friday in January! One of the few places open and sure glad it was. Super friendly staff and everyone was helping everyone! Started with the Chislic (10/10) which was mouthwatering and SO incredibly tender a must have! Then for the main course we had New Orleans Cajun Pasta (8/10)!!! WOW! I was worried about it being to spicy, I like spice but also like flavor. It was exactly that. Not to hot and tons of flavor! Came with chicken, shrimp, sausage and peppers!! Also bread which was not so good, maybe old, maybe over cooked- either way not good. Some of the pasta noodles were also cooked together and the bread was the reason for 8 out of 10 rating! This little hole in the wall spot was just rebuilt after a fire. I'm glad it was because breakfast was great. My eggs, sausages and coffee was amazing. Ordered rare, it was medium Bourbon Rib Eye: Ordered rare, brought out medium well. Coconut shrimp and pina colada sauce were good. Potato was okay. Service: our waitress was sweet but I don't think she was comfortable with customer service to those who didn't get their food cooked correctly. The manager, she copped an attitude when I told her I had lost my appetite and didn't want a replacement. She huffed and said "okay", pivoted and walked away. When I eat tough meat, it turns my stomach and then I can not eat any more meat until it settles. ‍ I rarely complain, but when I order my steak VERY RARE, I expect a rare steak. I expect my food to not be frozen in the middle. Overall we spent $100 on food that we weren't impressed with. They did take $16 off of our bill. I'm unsure if we will return. Located close to the Bear Country exhibit in Rapid City, SD is The Gaslight Restaurant and Bar. Four Stars! (Could have been five!). My family members (3 adults and 4 kids) just had finished the Bear Country exhibit and were super hungry. We asked one of the locals of the best places to eat in the area. They told us to go to The Gaslight. This restaurant is in the middle of nowhere and had apparently burned down about two years ago and was just rebuilt. It's a really unique restaurant made of pine wood and made to look like a barn. My table mates and I were looking forward to a great meal, because much of the food that we found on our trip in SD was pretty bad. We found good food at the Gaslight. To start off this review - we had OUTSTANDING service from Ms. Kym! She was very knowledgable, patient with the little ones, and super quick on her feet. Best service we experienced in a week of being in SD! Thank you, Kym!! Appetizers: Fried Chicken Gizzards. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw chicken gizzards as an appetizer. I haven't had these in ages. It was a heavy battered chicken gizzards, deep fried to crispy perfection. This dish was well prepared! About half way through the dish, I started to peel off the batter (like corndog batter) because I was filling up fast. Plus I'm more used to just the flour dusted coating. Nonetheless the dish was great! Grade: B+ For my main meal, I ordered the Seafood Salad which was fresh greens topped with Krab and bay shrimp. It was served with a home-made Thousand Island Dressing which was delicious. Simple and fresh. Grade: B+ Couple of closing points: First, this restaurant makes all of their own dressings and sauces. You will be happy with the bleu cheese dressing (which tastes like it has a bit of horseradish?), the Thousand Island dressing, and the Pina Colada Dressing (Coconut and Pineapple). Secondly, we told the Ms Waitress Kym that we really enjoyed the food and service. I asked if the lady behind the counter was the owner. I was told that she was the bartender and that the owner was sitting in the back office. I told Ms. Kym that I wanted her to tell the owner that we thought that the food and service was outstanding. Kym dissappeared and returned about 5 minutes later with two business cards with a link to Trip Advisor on the back. The owner asked us to leave her restaurant a positive review on Trip Advisor, but didn't bother coming out in person to take the time to give her a compliment in person. We all thought that this protocol was weird. We al thought it was a bit standoffish of the owner. If it weren't for this, we would have gladly given the restaurant 5 stars!
