My daughter is a type 1 diabetic and a 501 health plan was never put into effect. I was told all teachers would be educated on diabetic emergency and know where the glucagon pen would be. It was never done. My daughter was belittled by teachers for checking her blood sugar in class and eating a snack for a low blood sugar. The WORST part from this school happened when our son passed away. We removed our daughter from the school. We had already signed a contact for the next year before we found out about the lack of a safety plan for our daughter. Even though a replacement student came in we paid the tuition in full the summer before school started. Half way through the school year we receive a letter from an attorney asking for the tuition in full with attorney and legal fees. This came on what should have been our sons 30th birthday. Since we had paid them in full we had to contact our bank , get copies of our cancelled checks and have our lawyer submit proof of our payments. We never received a sympathy card or anything saying how sorry they were for our sons death. They only care about the money. My other daughter was bullied to the point she did not attend the 8 th grade camping trip and almost her graduation.

We never heard back with any explanation nor did we get our money back. Every camp we applied in the summer of 2020 either gave us our money back or gave us various options of how to use the money. The summer camp is also wonderful with numerous fun activities but my favorite part of summer camp is the swimming lessons. They do have a very nice swimming pool on campus (fenced) and teach swimming every day during the summer. Lessons are dependent on ability and age. There is even parent observation day at the end of the summer. No this place isn't cheap but well worth the money. When we expressed concern the teacher became defensive of the other child and it became very uncomfortable after we had built what I thought was a good report. I found out later that the teacher was close with the other family and even went on a ski trip with them. The director also showed little concern for these more serious issues. I also had to address the fact that my daughters class never washed with soap and water but used hand sanitizer instead. Both of my kids would express that the wrong kids were often disciplined and others got away with whatever they wanted. Every day I asked them how school was and they had nothing good to report sadly. It was hugely disappointing for the amount of money spent there.

The teachers are all so kind and the director, Carly, is easy to work with. One of the most unique things about Lucky Lane is their flexible scheduling. It really makes a huge difference to my family, and I have not encountered another school that offers anything like it. My daughter has learned so much there. She always comes home singing new songs from music class, with new books form the library, or with stories about playing with her friends outside or in the wheel-toy room. We get to sing and move and groove to the music as we explore the beat with streamers, scarves, bells, drums, etc. We even use some early orff instruments. We offer and believe in the benefits and many gifts of music. Educationally, the Lab School provides a wonderful learning environment. There is an atmosphere of caring love and energy. They believe in the unique worth of each child while also teaching respect for others and encouraging social development. The children are happy. It is play-based learning -constructivism. No worksheets or rote learning or color-by-number. I'm always impressed by the wonderful staff and the families who care enough to choose to come to this school. The longevity of the teachers and the fact that some families are 3rd generation Lab School attendees speaks volumes.

Before that, she stayed home full-time until age two and was very much a "stage 5 Velcro baby." She now confidently gives hugs goodbye, happily says "bye-bye," and walks into her classroom with ease. She genuinely enjoys school and is happy during pick-up, which gives us peace of mind. Leadership will move your children around to accommodate state requirements for staffing, so children are moved up before they are ready so new students can be added to the program.
