My daughters (4 and 6) have attended the Agape on 129th and MurLen since March 2014. This is the…read morethird preschool they've attended, and we have been completely thrilled for the past year. The owners and teachers are very loving and consistent with the children. On several occasions, if one of the girls was sad or upset about leaving mom (me) to be at school, a teacher would offer to snuggle or sit with them until they felt better. My kids have become deeply attached to their daytime and afternoon teachers over the past year, and it's been a relief that turnover has been very low in my experience. I also appreciate the kindness and understanding I've received as a parent from all of the staff members--which has not always been my experience at other schools. Academically, I'm very impressed. My older daughter is in the elementary classroom, which is a range of children from K-3rd grade. She would be in kindergarten in public school, but she's consistently bringing home 1-2nd grade worksheets that she has finished with flying colors! She was just beginning to sound out words when she started, and now she is working on reading basic chapter books. She's also learned to add and subtract fractions, understands the scientific process, and has a solid grasp on the geography of the United States and the continents of the world. My younger daughter is officially in their preschool program, but she has also learned to read and is working on kindergarten-level math skills. The elementary program offers a long list of field trips and special events in the classroom, such as their holiday parties, Christmas program, "coffee house poetry cafe" event, and more. These schools may look pretty ordinary from the outside, but the amount of love and care that goes into the curriculum and the students is amazing.

My kids were always in good hands here and the curriculum was above par. My kids were taught to think, not memorize and their concepts of the Montessori math have given them such an advantage in their current public school. They learned about maps, diversity, science and they loved every minute of it. When one of my kids felt a lack of confidence Mrs Debbie stepped in personally to help him find his learning style. She discovered with him that he really enjoyed putting together books and his confidence sky rocketed. We miss this place, very fond memories.

That's ok too, though. Teachers get tired and want to just sit. Here were our problems: While touring it was almost lunch time. We walked by sandwiches sitting on a paper plate with plastic wrap loosely placed over. Right above it was paint jugs - the kind that the paint has dripped all over. Still not horrible. Here's what was horrible: I asked about food preferences for my daughter and how we go about accommodating those. They said they don't accommodate those without a doctor slip. Insert confused face here. I clarified with the director and sure enough, she insists on a doctors note for a parent to choose what their child eats. I can say we toured many childcare options in a stretch of 10-15 miles and not one other facility had this response. In fact, All Around Child in Overland Park had this response when I asked: Oh our owner is very passionate about food options. Her and the chef sit and plan the menu every quarter and they design the food to all look the same even if one is vegetarian for example, so the kids don't feel odd about eating differently. And they're the same price! Shop around. Find the best option.

We attended for about a 6 weeks and found the center to be a very sterile/antiseptic environment…read more No sense of creativity, exploration, etc. They have a lot of fancy lesson plans but way too much structure for preschoolers. The kids are expected to sit on a vinyl circle on the floor quietly at look at books at 8am during drop off, no getting out toys/centers while their friends eat their microwaved breakfast. This expectation of course, does not work. Food is all casserole based and brought in from another site. Playground is nice but I once asked why there were no balls and they told me they get thrown over the fence. Ummm, they're kids, go get the balls. The security is good but reduces the sense of group/community and contact kids have with one another. I'm sure it affects employee morale too. We were unimpressed with our teacher who seemed just there to collect a paycheck and really couldn't tell me much about my sons day, development, peer interaction, etc. She was neither warm, friendly or fun. The director spends his afternoons on runs, as in running for exercise. The phone does not always get answered, when I call to check on my kid, I expect the phone to be answered. Every.Single.Time. The final straw for us was watching our kid (along with many others) sadly stand at the window every day and wave bye to their parents - heartbreaking. This never happened at our other center - literally never. I have a coworker who had to pull her son due to an unaddressed bullying issue. Despite this center being geographically ideal, it just was not worth it and we marched ourselves right back to Top Flight. We will never consider leaving again!

I did not have any experience with the Montessori approach prior to this daycare. We honestly started it because it was close to our house and our neighbors recommended it. But as soon as we started we loved it. The center is cleaned thoroughly from floor to toys daily (I witness it). The head teachers and assistants are very consistent in each classroom and are so passionate about each child they are working with. They have been trained with the Montessori mindset and live by it. They encourage independent play and group time, they work on manners, school work, how to be friends. They activate the brain through play and activities that are fun for the kids but they are developing so many skills. The director, office manager, and teachers are available, kind, and easy to communicate with and provide good communication. I read some (old) comments about afternoon TV time once the teachers leave. On days when it's not very nice out, the kids do watch some TV on the carpet at the end of the day but most of the time it's interactive so they are up dancing or singing with what's on. When the weather is nice they are outside playing! And yes there is a cement "alley" but it is not unsafe as that's part of life- cement driveways, cement sidewalks, cement porches. Highly recommend for quality of center, quality of staff, cleanliness, level of attentiveness to the children, and the pricing (relative to the area).
