Honestly, this is one of the few bars in the area that doesn't irritate me on the weekends. Its stayed true to Pittsburgh. Still a nice crowd of many local to the neighborhood. It still feels like Pittsburghers, All ages. It's not filled with pretentious newbie people who come from the suburbs to show off that they are pretentious and cool for handing out in Lawrenceville. Yeah, I know I'm old and the neighborhood has changed a lot lately. However, this bar has a great selection when it comes to hiring music. The bartenders are great. Overall good time. Good food in Lawrenceville isn't hard to find. There's a new amazing place, all the way down past the hubbub of central Lawrenceville that caught my attention; The GoldMark. For a "bar" that is trying to make a name for themselves in the food world, they sure have made their mark. (pun totally intended) My date and I stopped in on the very first day that the kitchen was open. We decided to order a few things and fight amongst ourselves for dinner. The order came to one Chicken & Waffles sandwich, one GoldMark Cuban, (I love the play on words) and the Mac & Cheese. Yowza. All the food! For $26, it was quite the steal. The Chicken & Waffles sandwich is made with a perfectly fluffy waffle; just a little sweet. The chicken thigh was fried and crisp, and the jalapeño/honey drizzle goodness was just right to top. It wouldn't be Pittsburgh if they didn't put coleslaw on it. This was just the right addition to pull the whole sandwich together. I'd like to go on record and say that I've never had a Cuban. However, this was a great first experience!! They use local rolls, and press braised pork, honey ham, house made pickles, swiss cheese, and a lemon aioli between them for an amazing first-bite (and every bite thereafter) experience. I'm not a pickle fan; but I loved these! I can't forget the Mac & Cheese. They make their cheese sauce in house (no cutting corners here), and then top it with Fritos. FRITOS. Yes, you read that right. It was a little slice/pile of heaven. I can't speak to the bar; because we were just here for the noms tonight, but their Beer & Shot tiers seemed pretty popular at the bar. They have a DJ every night that they're open, good old-school guys spinning on vinyl, hence the name The GoldMark. I'll totally be back to eat the other half of the menu and more! We came here after dinner while out celebrating our anniversary. Since we were already in Lawrenceville for dinner it seemed an appropriate time to do a little bar hoping since I am noticing Larry-ville seems to be turning into the "new" Southside. There was a lot going on here, and none of it was enticed me to stay past one quick drink. Before even walking in you could tell the place was booming. Lots of 20 something's, loud music, and general hoochieness. We went to the bar, and was approached by the bartender quickly if not overly friendly. I asked for a drink menu, she hands me one and steps back. I noticed the menu is so sticky it really disgusted me, but I soon came to find everything was sticky from the floors to the bar and most likely the other patrons. I ordered a cocktail, the Gold Fashioned, a play on an Old Fashioned. It was ok, would have been nice to have a little more bourbon and a little less simple syrup. Speaking of syrup did some disgruntled worker mop the floor and bar with it. Gross. I had to use the restroom but decided to hold it until the next stop fearing what state that may be in. The owner and his fiance are dear friends of mine and when I found out they were opening this place in Lawrenceville, the city's shining neighborhood star as of late, I knew it would be a success! I visited The Goldmark on it's opening night and am sure I'll be back again and again... Heck, I even went back the very next night for more! The owners have done a complete renovation and anyone who had the chance to check this spot out when it was a Cuban restaurant will probably not even recognize the place. It's wonderfully decorated and softly lit to provide just enough ambience to kick off your evening, grab a delicious beverage, and enjoy good company. DJ Nugget has been providing sweet sounds for Pittsburgh's hottest clubs for years and now he finds himself on the decks in his very own bar. One of my absolute favorite places to dance in Pittsburgh, the DJ's that play here are always spot on with their music. I will say it does get packed in Goldmark so know that going in, that by the time midnight rolls around you will have a hard time navigating around, especially to the bar and to the bathroom, also if you're not in before midnight there will most likely be a line outside. Aside from those warnings though, it seriously is a great place to dance, just try to get there earlier so you can get in without any lines. read more

I was so excited to try The Goldmark, since it seemed like an innovative and fun addition to the Larenceville bar scene. With the fate of Belvedere's still undecided that only leaves Remedy and Spirit for dancing, and sometimes those places are just a little smoky for my taste. I was hoping for a nice in between balance with great dance music and an artsier clientele, but I don't think The Goldmark is quite there yet. In terms of atmosphere I was reminded a lot of Industry on a bad night as soon as I walked in. There were lots of conservatively dressed yuppie types trying to impress someone and a huge amount of bros. If that's your jam it's cool, but I'd rather not spend my evening in a crowd full of super sloshed women and men who refuse to understand that no means no. It felt like it could be categorized as a classy south side establishment, but I think Lawrenceville needs something a bit better. The service was adequate; Not too fast but not fifteen minutes to get a beer opened either. The layout greatly contributes to the awkward vibe, since the back room has tons of unused space and is decidedly more open. The DJ is currently situated right smack in the middle of everything in a booth a few feet from the end of the bar. (Some people were trying to dance in the four foot square spot between him and the bar...why??) A narrow hallway immediately to the right creates an instant bottleneck. Putting the DJ booth in the rear of the space (and getting rid of that massive column in the middle of the back room if possible) would create a fun area for dancing and mingling and free up much-needed breathing room around the bar. I may try this place again in six months or so to see if anything has improved. It's cute and I had high hopes. read more

Just popped in for a quick pint while in the bustling area on a Saturday evening. This place was dead, except for my girlfriend and I. We ordered 2 beers, took one sip of mine, and realized I wasn't a fan of the beer. Loved my girlfriend's beer and asked if, she (the bartender), wouldn't mind exchanging the beer for the same as my GF. The bartender, rolled her eyes, and said "I already poured your beer"!! The Goldmark was already my favorite place in Pittsburgh to get a drink and meet friends because of the great atmosphere, top DJs every night, and awesome staff. I actually really liked the Goldmark and have been there many times but after last night I probably won't be going there again. I was with coworkers and my girlfriend after a work event and I think it was even planned that we would be going there after because the bartender knew we were coming when we got there. The first bartender was very nice and attentive and I believe her name was nicole. A new bartender came for a later shift and you could tell from her eye rolling at our drink orders that she was in a bad mood when she got in. Others in our party also commented on this. After our party had closed out and left, my girlfriend and I asked for our checks and I noticed that a large portion of our party's drinks were charged to her by mistake. When I asked about the bill the bartender automatically said that she(herself) was sober and didn't need to argue with a drunk person about a bill. I thought I was in my rights to at least question it since i knew some of the drinks were not ours and it was almost 90$ when we only had a few drinks between the two of us. She immediately started to say we were wrong and call us both drunk. I took offense to this and said she didn't have to get so f***ing rude and she had the bouncer come to remove me from the bar. I may have been wrong for swearing but she was definitely wrong in the way she handled the situation. Then the bouncer proceeded to try and separate me from my girlfriend by force to which I was just waiting for her to finish closing out. For us to go and spend money as a group and then be treated like that at the end of the night is inexcusable. Had I not been at a work function I would not have let him put his hands on me in the way he did. He even tried to taunt me by saying "you better not hit me" after we were already leaving. I have worked in the service industry for a long time as a bartender and a bouncer and I can say that this place needs to hire two new people for both of those positions from way we were treated and by the looks of some of the other yelp reviews. You are better off going anywhere else unless you are lucky enough to get Nicole as your bartender. read more

This was my first time at this bar. The security guys who worked at this bar were amazing. However the bar tenders were some of the rudest people I have ever had serving me. I came with a big group of friends, had paid a cover, and spent a decent amount of money since we had a big group. At one point I had my water (full) and beer (half full) on the bar. I went to talk to my friend and my back was faced to the bar for 30 seconds. During that time the bar tender had cleared all the drinks from the bar. I realized she probably thought someone left it so when she came back around I said that I think she accidentally threw my drinks away. She then argued with me that she never pulls a drink off the bar unless it's %100 empty. I know my drinks were not empty so I said maybe one of the other bar tenders took it. She rolled her eyes and walked away and I let it go still trying to enjoy my night. About 30 seconds later she walked up to me again and says "do you really want me to grab you half a beer". I was kinda taken aback about how rudely she said that to me and didn't even respond. She then turned around, cracks open a can, dumps half out, then CRUNCHES it in her fist before shoving it in front of me. I have never come in contact with such a rude bar tender when I just asked a simple question. At that point I was done with that place and left shortly after being treated so poorly by a staff member. I will say I talked to one of the security guards about it when I was on my way out and he was very helpful and nice by apologizing for the rude bar tender. Still I will not be returning. read more

This is my favorite bar in Pittsburgh, I've been going here for years and it just keeps getting better. When I first moved to Lawrenceville my friends and I stopped in just to check it out. There was a line and cover but that is expected as it is a popular spot with the best DJs in the area, so it was definitely worth it. Over time I met a lot of people at The Goldmark that live in the area and it made Lawrenceville feel more like a community. Outside of the great people that visit the bar, the people that work there are even better. The bartenders make the best drinks and do a great job serving as many people as they do, they even tend to remember your order when you go back up which I'm not sure how that's possible. The bouncers are fantastic and always kind in difficult situations. The bouncer out front always has a smile on his face and makes everyone feel welcome. Highly recommend this bar. read more

This brand new bar seems to be doing everything right in my book: reasonable prices EXPLICITLY STATED ON THE MENU (no mystery craft beer costs), a multitude of beer + shot specials, eclectic restroom decor, and overall very nice vibe, a.k.a. a perfect and much needed middleground between smoky dive and upscale/overpriced/pretentious. The bouncer is THE nicest person I have ever seen. He offered multiple people his jacket and said the worst part of bouncing was people having to stand in the cold. Towards the end of the night around 1:15 am a group of girls tried to bring pizza in - the bouncer let the girl store the pizza in his car so that the hungry vultures outside (aka us) wouldn't eat it. After living in Southside for two years, I was more than excited to get out of that place, but didn't want to lose the fun/party places by moving to a new neighborhood. Thank god for the Goldmark! The artwork and original floor tiling found in this bar is so unique, it draws you in - not to mention this place has some of the BEST DJ's in Pittsburgh rotating in. The music is UNREAL. Went to The Goldmark on Saturday to celebrate my birthday with 14 girlfriends and had a great night. Before going out I contacted the owner via email to reserve two tables in the back of the bar so we'd have somewhere to get away from the crowd if necessary. This was so nice and a few of my friends took advantage of it when they needed a break but the DJ was so great I didn't leave the dance floor all night. We got there at 9:45, a little before the cover charge started and only three other people were there but sure enough by 11:00 it was at capacity and there was a line outside. It was crowded but not too crowded to easily get a drink from one of the three bartenders and the prices were great, everyone was surprised at the end of the night how low their tab was. I truly love this bar however last night I had an experience that has never happened to me ever in the bartending Industry. My friends and I were showing our IDs to the doorman, Ryan, and he said that one of us had an expired ID. This man was a well known bareback in the Lawrenceville bartending community and was surprised that he was denied entry to such a well-known bar. When I asked the doorman Ryan what was wrong he said "you guys need to leave". Because we had been there so many times, I asked to speak to his superviser because there was a chance they would remember us. Ryan proceeded to yell that we had no authority there and take his stool inside so he wouldn't have to look at us. He then came outside to tell us "just so you know none of you are gettin in so you might as well leave". After I called an Uber to take me home I went inside to ask for Ryan's name and he proceeded to put his hands on my chest and shove me outside of the building yelling that he was not going to give me his name because I was a stupid bitch. After I persisted to find out his name, he told me quickly and I got into my Uber and left. I have never been harassed to this degree while simply trying to solve a misunderstanding. read more
