3.5 stars. The Finch is a rooftop bar and restaurant that is named after the Joseph S. Finch & Company's distillery that was located in the building in the late 1800s. The bar serves cocktails, wines, beers, and mocktails. For dinner and late-night bites, the restaurant focuses mostly on small plates and shareables, including charcuterie, chicken wings, pizzetta, steak, and salmon. They also have a Sunday brunch that serves lox bagel, shrimp and grits, French toast, mimosa, bloody Mary, etcetera. My husband and I ate one lunch here. The best aspect of The Finch was its beautiful views of downtown Pittsburgh's skyscrapers, Monongahela River, and subway trains. The foods and drink were a mixture of quality, and my husband called them "garbage" (eek!). Here are my ratings for them. Berry Mint Spritz - 4 stars - This mocktail (I could have ordered it with alcohol to turn it into a cocktail) contained strawberries, mint, lemon, syrup, and soda water. All of the flavor had settled on the bottom of the glass, so I could have used a straw to mix the drink, but I did enjoy the flavors. Summer Crab Cakes - 2 stars - I received two crab cakes, and they were some of the worst crab cakes that I have ever received anywhere. They contained too much breading and too little meat. I did not even like the flavor of the cherry tomatoes on the side. I usually love crab cakes, but with these ones, I could take only a couple of bites, and then I had the waitress throw away the rest. Hawaiian Pizzetta - 4 stars - This small pizza consisted of four slices that had cheese but no gooey cheese-pull. Other toppings were BBQ sauce drizzle, pineapple, ham, and red pepper. I thought that it tasted good. Ember Steak Skewers - 4 stars - My husband said that the steak was not the highest quality. At least the chunks of steak, peppers, onions, and mushroom (we counted one piece of mushroom!) were marinated and seasoned nicely. The total cost for this one mocktail, three foods, and one soda was $79 *plus* a 3% credit-card surcharge, tax, and a minimum tip of 18%. I wanted to become completely absorbed into this roof top Pittsburgh restaurant / bar. Unfortunately, I left not having the best experience. I came here on a Sunday at about 1pm. We sat outside, which was first come first serve. It took awhile for anyone to approach us but I was in the restaurant industry for some time so I surely realize it happens for many reasons ! My friend ordered two speciality drinks which we were then told they didn't have the ingredients to make those cocktails...Okay - it happens no problem . We then ordered food from the brunch menu ( also out of the first item we asked for , there are only about 6-7 items on that limited menu). We asked if the regular menu would be available that day and we were told "no not on Sunday's." We proceeded to order and consume the hot honey chicken and waffles( good but not much of a hot honey taste and be aware it's BONE IN chicken), French toast with berries ( delicious ), and the shrimp and grits (made to perfection). I ordered the Texas medicine beverage , which was exquisite! (Tequila cocktail, Pictured). We also had the Petal and Pearl , gin and procecco cocktail ,not pictured but very good as well. After we ate, we moved to the bar to grab one last beverage. Again, it took quite some time for someone to approach us, which was odd because many of the girls were making eye contact but walking by us. Finally a gentleman with curly hair came over to take our orders - thank you. We noticed people at the bar were eating wings and food that was not listed on the brunch menu. When I asked how they ordered that, they said the regular menu starts at 3 on Sundays! We were extremely disappointed our original server did not tell us this nor was enlightened that the menu was released at a later time on Sundays. Concerning. We stopped by on a Wednesday night around 8:30pm and it wasn't too crowded. We were able to get two couches on the outside patio pretty much right away. A server came and took care of us eventually and was able to do separate checks with no problems. The inside is sizable and there's another patio that allows smoking. The view of the city from the non-smoking patio is gorgeous. We just had dinner so we didn't order any food but got drinks. The drinks were decent and good for what they were but nothing to write home about. The view and vibes are really what you would go here for. The parking situation is either $8 valet, street parking which didn't look plentiful, or a creepy parking garage down the block. read more

Hubby and I had a reservation for a summer Friday evening to enjoy the rooftop, and then it turned into a celebration of my promotion. We got a table right between the bar (LOUD) and the outdoors (those tables might not be reservable?) and ordered the only complete entrees on the menu, the steak and salmon with rice and asparagus. The waitress explained that it's really more of an elevated bar menu for sharing than a restaurant menu. Hubby suspects many people would come for a drink and then go elsewhere for a complete meal. Although, the four women at the couch next to us shared the bread for the table (a really enticing loaf of focaccia), the steak skewers, and a charcuterie board. We felt like we had to flag down the waitress to get her attention, but otherwise the kitchen was quick, and the food was good. Hubby ate his entire plate, whereas I only needed half and took the leftovers home for lunch. We split the banana pudding dessert, which is large enough that I think a woman at the bar ate one for dinner with her cocktail. We thought the pudding itself was not overwhelming in the flavor department, but I savored the roasted plantains, and Hubby appreciated the quality whipped cream. For drinks, his nonalcoholic berry smash wasn't bad, and my cucumber mint smash was light and refreshing, but both suffered from the amount of ice in the glass. The location was great for watching people (other Finch patrons, a pack of street rollerskaters) and traffic (trains on two different tracks, the T, boats on the Mon River, the Incline). At the end we were blessed by the golden light of a sunset. Didn't check out the restrooms, and we each had to park off-site (he on the street, I at the Station Square lot a block away--both valet and the lot cost $8). The rooftop view of the city skyline was gorgeous at night. It's like peaceful and serene. Located on the 6th floor of The Distillery Complex in South Side, the Finch recently opened up to deliver some pretty day and night vibes. You can make reservations, but the patio outside does not count. All of the cocktails tasted amazing; however, their pizzetta was extremely mid. We tried the BLT pizzetta, and it tasted very dry with no hint of aioli. The crust was pretty tough too. If it's supposed to be somewhat like focaccia, I would expect it to be softer or moist with oil or light sauce. Our waitress took our order sitting at one of our chairs. Happy hour is Tuesday-Fri 3-5pm $9 Big Spring Spirits Old Fashioned Menu. Can't say much about the other food but hopefully it's better than the pizzetta. This spot has incredible city views and a really great atmosphere. It was cold when we visited, so the windows weren't fully open, but you can tell this place would be amazing in the warmer months with everything open and the city as the backdrop. The food menu is smaller but well thought out. We ordered the roasted root vegetables, which were flavorful and perfectly done, and the mushroom pizza, which was outstanding loaded with mushrooms, nicely garlicky, and full of flavor. The cocktails really stood out: well-balanced, creative, and with a large selection to choose from. We tried a variety and enjoyed every one. The windows were closed because it was a chillier day, we sat on the bar counter next to a window. It was bar service, you had to get up and order from the bartender. We went up the first time and were ignored for a few minutes, so we went back to our seats thinking a server would come. Nobody came, we ended up returning up to the bar. The person next to us flagged the bartender down for us after almost 10 minutes standing there, even when they came over the bartender tried to ignore us again. Many bartenders standing around polishing glasses and not taking care of customers. I couldn't wait to finish my drink and leave, not welcoming at all. It is a shame, the view is great. read more

My friend and I met here for drinks and some apps. The space can be a little difficult to find but it's nothing crazy. I did knock a star off because there is only valet parking (that I was able to find). I made a reservation for the restaurant/cocktail bar. The views are stunning! For my cocktail, I ordered the "pickled govenor" which has seven governors gin, pickle brine, lemon,& garnished with a pickle slice. Not that it's a big "dill" (see what I did there?) , but my drink did not come garnished with a pickle slice. For our apps, we ordered the fire roasted chicken wings (with sizzle sauce), the chicken florentine meatballs and the stuffed mushrooms with chicken sausage. Everything was good. Having heard about the Finch and driving past it a few times. We decided to check it out on nice sunny Friday afternoon. We checked out the distillery on the first floor, the selection is large and I'd like to spend more time there. We then headed for the 6th floor roof deck. It was pretty awesome and crowded. The inside bar area was also busy but we grabbed a some seats and had a drink. After a few minutes we decide to go the 4th floor cigar club. My wife said it was the nicest cigar place she's ever seen and we've been to quite a few. Check out our pictures and you'll see what I mean. It's a first class place from top yo bottom. The venue is absolutely beautiful--clean, inviting, and well-maintained. The staff was amazing and very welcoming. While we didn't try the food, the drinks were tasty, though they could be a bit stronger at the price point they are. It would be great if they offered a happy hour. Also they need to offer a flight of their house liquors. The biggest downside is the parking situation. Valet is available for $8, but I prefer not to let anyone else drive my car. It would be helpful if the website mentioned that you can park in the Station Square lot and walk over--that's the closest self-parking option. Despite that, the stunning views and overall atmosphere make it well worth the visit. The other patrons where also very friendly. It's truly a wonderful space. read more

I think this would be a dealbreaker for some: you smell cigars when you come in, certainly in the elevator, and even on the upper floor within the bar and restaurant. Not an issue for me, but I could see it being deeply problematic for anyone who is sensitive to cigar smoke. They probably need to revisit their air handling system. No draught beer. November 2025 - Front of house staff was incredibly friendly. - The order of six deviled eggs for $14 is presented as "two different styles: classic and elevated." This $14 appetizer is serviceable, but unimpressive and overpriced. We have had better deviled eggs at multiple other venues. - The draft mango Mojito is a complete delight. Excellent flavor profile and mouth feel. - One of our group really enjoyed the garden sunset cocktail with gin, hibiscus syrup, lemon and lime. Not too sweet: perfect for her. - The grilled wings are excellent. These are sous vide, finished on a grill. They could actually probably hit them a little bit harder on the grill, but the product that came out of the kitchen was excellent. We had the buffalo version, and would completely order again. 4.2-4.4 on the 5 point Wing Scale. - The brisket flatbread is good; One member of our group was quite pleased while another found it merely serviceable. read more

I had previously been to the Finch for drinks however I had never eaten there so prior to the weekend snowstorm I got a group of friends together and we went for dinner. It was myself, 3 friends, and a my one friend's teenage daughter. The dress was business casual although you could go casual too, but not like sweatpants casual. The atmosphere was City vibe but hidden, and it was the perfect mix of mood lighting and vibe music, which made it perfect for date night or grabbing drinks or dinner with friends. Our server was attentive and offered suggestions when asked about the menu and prompt in providing food and beverage service. The food was delicious. while I probably wouldn't order what I got again there was nothing wrong with it, it was just not what I wanted in the moment that said there were so many other things on the menu that I would want to try before I cycle back to ordering the same thing again. I also loved that they had a large larger drink selection, which included no less than 10 mock tails so you could enjoy the evening without having to drink if that's your choice and I really think that a lot of places don't prioritize that yet so I give them props to making a larger mocktail selection. What a true gem the entire Distillery Complex is. From the very start, we were welcomed by the most courteous bouncer I've ever encountered, who graciously explained how everything worked and set the tone for the evening. We made our way up to The Finch on the rooftop, put our names in, and requested a table by the windows. While we waited, we grabbed a drink and stepped outside to take in the sunset over the city, perfect for photos. Soon after, we got a text for our table and enjoyed a warm pretzel and pizzetta alongside more drinks. The staff was kind and attentive, and the food and cocktails were From there, we headed back downstairs to the Bottle Shop for a Big Springs Spirits tasting with John, who was both personable and knowledgeable. We were told we could buy a bottle and bring it to The Drawing Room, a lounge that will eventually become members-only but is currently open to the public. Naturally, we did just that. At The Drawing Room, we were once again greeted with warmth and expertise. The team gave us a tour of the humidor, helped us select cigars tailored to our tastes, and provided glasses and mixers so we could enjoy our newly purchased spirits. We settled into plush seats by a fireplace, with the windows framing yet another vibrant city view. Cigars in hand, spirits in glass, we soaked in the swanky lounge experience. I've visited just about every spot in Pittsburgh, but this stands out as something truly elevated and one-of-a-kind. In a single building, we enjoyed rooftop cocktails, delicious bites, a spirits tasting, fine cigars, cozy lounges, stunning views, and impeccable service at every turn. Note: I attended a special ticketed event. My friend who invited me had been 2 previous times and enjoyed it both visits. The brick building exterior is gorgeously lit up at night. They offer valet at their main public entrance on the east side of the building. It's also accessible from the paved multi-use Three Rivers Heritage Trail from the direction of Station Square. Of course my personal safety is important to me so it was unsettling to me all party goers were wanded by the security guard for hidden weapons upon entry. I very much appreciated a coat room being set up for the event (staged in my favorite room with exposed brick). I also appreciated the comfortable room temperature throughout the building. The holiday decorations were classy and prime for photo backdrops. There are two elevators so waits were reasonable. Also, the number of people in the smaller than expected space was comfortable! Thankfully, we were not all packed in and there was one side of the bar without chairs where people could stand in line to order drinks. The bartenders were constantly working hard but there were way more of us than them. All the staff I encountered were lovely. We had eaten dinner elsewhere before coming so I did not try the food menu. Had I been hungry for a late night bite, the gigantic hot pretzel looked tempting to share with a group. It was the end of December and snowing outside so we only briefly went out onto the uncovered rooftop patio for photos of the city skyline. I prefer the green space over at nearby The Highline but in cold weather, The Finch provides the best indoor option. read more

My friend and I came here for happy hour drinks and food on a Friday around 6pm. The place was absolutely slammed. We were greeted before we got onto the elevator, which was nice. The staff helped us determine what was on which floor, as the building has 4 separate floors all with separate businesses. Though the cigar bar was on level 2, the entire building and the elevator smelled like cigars. Pros from our experience at The Finch: the views. Cons: the wait time, the customer experience. We stood at the bar for 35 minutes before being able to order a drink. We put our names on the waitlist for a table as soon as we got there and that took about 50 minutes. Once we had a table, our server though polite and energetic, was stretched far too thin with responsibilities and we only saw her 3 times within our 2.5 hour duration. The food came out luke warm and we didn't have silverware. It took forever to catch anyone's attention. I expected it to be busy since the place is hot and new, but even with those mid level expectations, the experience just didn't deliver. read more

Came here for lunch on our friends Bach trip.... Do not recommend. The only good thing about this place was the view. Our one friend had a dead fly in her salad. My other friend was drinking from her drink and soon came to find out the glass was chipped along the rim. Then they forgot our other friends food and the service was horrible!! We talked to our waitress about this and she just said sorry to hear that and walked away. Bartender repeats back "double bourbon, one cube", proceeds to give me a double bourbon in a glass filled with chipped ice. $18 for bourbon drowned in ice. Thanks. If I have to wait 30 minutes plus and pay $68 for 4 drinks, I expect much better than this. 3 major complaints here. 1. This bar/restaurant is infested with flies. It's near the river and open top, the smoking patio was absolutely covered in flies and inside they were also everywhere. It was pretty gross to have bugs all around our drinks. 2. The servers don't really seem to know what they're doing. We ordered a bottle of champagne and the guy said he'd be right back, and then he just... never brought it? He never acknowledged it either. He just kept walking past our table and we had to flag someone else down to order order something else and pay our bill. 3. I left my sunglasses on the table, and when I went back in to get them, a server said she didn't have anyone turn them in. Another server then said she saw them there but didn't buss the table, then checked with the bar staff. They were acting really weird about it, so I'm pretty sure whoever bussed the table just stole them. And if not, what kind of waitress sees a customers item left on the table and doesn't give it to the bartender or host right away? I won't ever go back here. read more
