As I lean against the wall I start to hear what seems like a transistor radio in the distance. The sound grows heavier as it approaches. Soon it starts to sound like a heavy metal guitar track. I turn to look at the source of this Metallica-esque ballad and before my eyes I see something that to this day might be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Keep in mind it's 4AM ON THURSDAY! I glance towards the street and there is a man dressed in a clown suit, you know, the one piece kind that have those huge ruffled collars. He has a cowboy hat on and is wearing aviator sunglasses, but has no clown make up on. Strapped to his side is a portable guitar amp which is blasting the Slayer inspired tunes that he is playing from a guitar that's hanging over his shoulders. The selection is wide, the store is clean, and the staff is as personable and friendly as anyone could be. When I walked into Sheen Brothers the first time I saw a stranger behind the counter, and by the time I paid for my Haribo Gummy Bears, I said goodbye to someone I felt like I have known my entire life. I feel like Amkit, Akshay, and Kirit have become a part of me over the year I have lived in East Village, and I will always be proud to call them my friends.
