Best market in Greenwich Village for natural and organic groceries. It has pretty okay prices for around here. LifeThyme is a lot bigger than it looks. Has a proud history of being one of the first organic stores in the area. There's a lot of products including food, personal care, and others. Actually was one of the first all organic grocery stores in the city. It's where to find all kinds of healthy products. There's also a deli section you can get premade and made to order sandwiches. About as fresh as it can be. It's about $5 to get the cheapest sandwiches. The last time here they had the Spicy Seitan Wrap. Also they have a salad bar with all kinds of things you can put into a container. They have proteins including chicken and tempeh. Has quite a lot for a locally owned grocery. It's pretty okay as far as prices, because while it's not always cheap, there's also freshness and quality. The store has tons of items for vegans and vegetarians. read more

I was helped by a male employee who asked if he could help me find something and then showed me the deglycyrrhizinated licorice I was looking for, showing me two different brands to choose from. Unfortunately, when I got home and researched the ingredients in the brand I chose, I discovered that one of the ingredients was potentially hazardous for people like me who have heart conditions. I dislike returning things (who doesn't?) and my wife had thrown out the receipt; but I found a bank record of the purchase on my phone. So, I schlepped over to the store and brought the item to a cashier to ask for a refund. The young woman at the register was quite nice and called over another young woman who, luckily for me, knew more about the details of a Google Wallet purchase than I did and pointed out where to find the last four digits of a virtual credit card, which she then successfully entered, completing the refund. So, the LifeThyme employees, from first to last, were pleasant and accommodating. I hope this store, one of the niche gems in the Village, will live long and prosper. [Coincidentally, I saw Spock (Zachary Quinto) across the street from LifeThyme a few years ago, so I thought I'd throw in that reference.] read more

I had been low grade depression for the last few years because suddenly all fruits taste weird and like eating plastic smh. Strawberries taste like eating dirt and I find myself picking the top 5 strawberries and throwing out the packet smh. Even the organic ones. What is the world coming to I asked. Anyways so I picked up a pack of strawberries at Life Thyme and not gonna lie I gawked a little at $9.99 but at this point in my quest what's a couple more dollars I asked myself.... and Oh m geeeeee these are theee best organic strawberries o have had since at least 2019 BC no lies. Maybe I lucked out being my first time in the store and its like beginners luck who knows but for that this place has my heart. I trust their selection of produce now. The store has gone SO downhill in the past year or two. If the owner does not change things, I bet they will go out of business. First, they allegedly had issues with their refrigeration/coolers, which went on for several months. How/why this was not prioritized is ridiculous. That led to them no longer carrying certain products (not good!) and rearranging things throughout. Now, the upstairs is being shut down, and the downstairs has turned into a chaotic mess. What happened? I really used to like going here because it represented a change from Whole Foods, with the store offering things that were difficult to find elsewhere. I was charged for a purchase I didn't make, mocked when I attempted to return it, characterized as hostile by the manager, while the cashier who attempted to defraud me, laughed in my face. The item she charged me for was never in my bag, never in my cart, the cashier Katrina E Purdy just wanted to rip off a customer for $3.00. She and her hostile manager found this hilarious, and mocked me for taking umbrage and wanting my money back for this item I NEVER PURCHASED. The $3.00 gumballs were at Purdy's station, right in front of her, so this was just the most blatant petty theft imaginable. Completely sanctioned by the hostile manager. Products in the store are fantastic, They desperately need to restaff, as the people in charge are clowns and petty thieves. I look forward to a petty response describing me as a troll from their manager Jason, who has viewed every other one star review they received on this platform with derision and dismissal. He mocked someone who got sick from their juice bar, characterizing him as a "troll." That is some omega level projection! This is the most customer unfriendly, hostile, business I've ever encountered. Trolls selling health food, in my neighborhood, since 1996. I came here because in the map it said 'Plentea matcha' unfortunately matcha is nonexistent but Lifethyme is a local and organic grocery store that has been around for a minute. Always choose to support local!!! They have a salad and veggie bar with delicious things like macro rolls, and a made in store section of delicious ready to go meals. Hello there Jason B., there is no need to refund me for anything. I appreciate that I was able to "park" my bags at no extra cost, that was truly gracious of the establishment to allow me that privilege. Though, my complaint was never with the establishment, it was with my experience with Michal at the register. And I do appreciate you pointing out that there is a charge for the bag, I was unaware of that. So I am thanking you for pointing that out. I did not know what Michal was doing on their side, I wasn't thinking about it at the time of the transaction, and I had no issue with being asked to run the card 2 or 3 times. Those are all normal interactions that occur several times throughout one's day, and therefore should not be on any individual's radar for things that provoke one to assess another as having a race-based biased. Michal is clearly not telling you what he/she/they said, how they said it, and they are also not telling you that the statement that I made as I left was, "I'm sorry I upset you." Actually, I may have said it twice if I recall. Because Michal was CLEARLY upset and I wasn't sure if it was about to have some kind of breakdown. He/she/they were literally shaking. And this is the reason that everyone was looking at me. Because I'm sure it was quite awkward - the CUSTOMER apologizing for being on the receiving end of mistreatment while the cashier is throwing attitude like I stepped on his/her/their toes somehow. Don't take my word for it though, ask them all! You got them on surveillance, ask each and every one of them. They will tell you. The experience left me feeling so down that I actually apologized to Michal for Michal's terrible journey that day, that led him/her/they to the exact moment that he/she/they felt the need to try their best to ruin mine. At the end of the day I do appreciate the establishment's effort to address that one issue. I purchased their Raw Lasagna and they went up in price, I was okay with that until I opened the package. Two strips of zucchini MAX and the rest was a bunch of nuts, no sauce either. Gross. In my quest to avoid Whole Foods these days, I recalled my earlier days of being vegan, before Whole Foods opened in Union Square, when I relied on health food stores in Manhattan for things that I couldn't possibly get at the supermarket or 24 hour Korean deli (full disclosure: I think I only shopped at health food stores and 24 hour Korean delis. No wonder I was perpetually broke). And of all the health food stores in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, Lifethyme was the best of 'em. Whereas other places sold questionable pre-wrapped vegan sandwiches, not to mention the dry baked goods that could turn anyone off vegan baked goods forever, Lifethyme had so many super fresh and delicious items, that it was mind boggling. More than once I opened my pre-wrapped from-a-deli sandwich to find rotten lettuce. NIGHTMARES! Meanwhile the sell-by-date was three days away. WTF? Dark days indeed. But Lifethyme was a bright light. Their sandwiches were fresh. Their prepared food bar was quite the life saver on nights that I had classes in the village and, in fact, introduced me to raw foods (their raw lasagna rocked my world). But let's talk about the vegan bakery in the back of the store. All my fat kid desires are satisfied. A couple weeks ago, I had it bad. It was my intention to pick out one thing. Instead I left with three, a peanut butter moon pie, an oatmeal cookie and some other chocolate thing that I consumed in a food fugue, so no details there, I'm afraid. Their cakes are delicious and amazingly priced. Even with all the other new school vegan bakeries opening up, I'll always be a loyal Lifethyme customer. I'll never forget that in the 2000s my birthday cakes always came from here. I will admit that I expect more from their vegan cheese selection. It ain't bad, but I was hoping for more, something like the vegan grocery store that has an entire cheese section in Rome, Italy. I can dream. read more

I have been a customer here over many years, but no longer. I went to the second floor to purchase a bottle of rosemary oil. The salesman, unmasked, handed me a bottle of it. I stood away from him, maybe 6 feet, probably less, so I could read the label as I have never purchased this product before. I was the only person there and his attention was undivided. No more than 10 seconds had gone by when he said, "You have to give that to me before you go to pay for it." I said, "Do you mean I cannot read the label?" He then shouted at me to "calm down !" I put the bottle down and said, "No one talks to me like this," and left. On my way out, I relayed to the manager on the first floor what had happened. "What do you want me to do ?" he asked me. "Maybe you should hire staff who are not rude to customers," I replied, and left. I got sick from eating from their hot food bar. It was about an hour from closing and the food was cold. it seems the heating was turned off as they approached closing time. I spent 2 days in the hospital. On a previous occasion, I went for a wheatgrass juice. I usually head straight to the prepared foods deli display where I choose either the Power Pie, Ipie, or or some other massive layered lasagna-like slice of veggies. There's no way I would invest the time to shred all the veggies the way they do and then layer them as perfectly as they do, so I think the $7.50 - $8 price tag is well worth it, considering my alternative would be to spend that much just on three of the ingredients they use in these awesome prepared meals. I've never had their organic meat hot bar, but it seems like a pretty great deal as well, considering organic meat isn't easy to find in prepared take-out, grab and go fashion. Occasionally I also pick up another random healthy snack or get some naturally made cleaning products, and it's small enough that you aren't going to spend hours getting lost in whole foods, or hours in line waiting at Trader Joe's. It has just enough and not too much to provide efficient and speedy service in natural foods and products for the Greenwich Village and West Village neighborhoods. read more

Great by the pound hot food bar selection with seating area upstairs. They discount 50% after 9pm but will remove the food by 9:30pm. A hidden gem is their dessert cooler (not just the display case) in the back with a number of delicious choices. read more

An adorable healthy wonderland in New York. I appreciated that Lifethyme had Zoodles (Zucchini noodles), that they had veggie grain-less wraps, and that they had a plethora of Paleo and Vegan desserts. They were even well stocked on grass-fed Bone Broth. The staff were exceptionally helpful during my time here and they assisted me in finding any and all items that I was searching for. I did see moldy black mission figs which were close to the door entrance. Take that how you will, because organic food rots faster. But the strawberries looked so...real! Alas, no bakery (I understand) but was surprised that my cashier had his mask barely covering his mouth and when I said something, he said he needed air. I came for the organic juice bar/smoothie and was surprised to see a full salad and hot bar filled with delicious and healthy treats and not to mention a full vegan/gluten-free bakery. Say what? I went with a close to an $11 smoothie. It was great filled with spirulina and organic fruit, but it was $11. I got to sample the fresh coconut smoothie as well as a green juice and they know what they're doing and for the juice size well worth the $9; $11 is a bit steep. I'll be a reg. Not good is mildly put rating. Its Over priced by 30-50% compared to other small organic stores in nyc but I'd accept that if it had marvelous fresh organic produce. Fruits and veg are border line rotten or tasteless. Prepared and deli food is unacceptable quality. I've seen the stuff stamp prepared date a day ahead on their prepared food and 6/10 times prepared foods is spoiled days before the expiration date. Its hard to grasp how fast and low this store quality and service has spiraled down. Based on my experience I don't trust nor the prepared date nor the expiration date. I stopped buying their prepared food all together when I found out that no one in the kitchen is tasting what they make before its packaged and sold which explains why at times it was under cooked and always extremely inconsistent in flavor. You might see on their website a guarantee that if you are not satisfied with something you purchased, the store will take care of you. They do by listening to the complain, looking at your purchase receipt date and then sending you off to call the factory, producer or supplier as its store policy not to take back any product that's been opened even if its spoiled, moldy or outdated. Now with that in mind you can be educated shopper going to Lifethyme on 6th avenue. read more

I have ordered groceries from here twice now (via Mercato). They provide free delivery (for orders over $20). They are super-communicative and accommodating if they don't have an item, and delivery has been very fast with great food/veggie quality. Psyched to keep ordering from them, and will hopefully get there one day soon to get some of their house-made food! read more

This place is my jam and here's why: -Every other month, they have a special on GT'S kombucha: 2 for $6!!! -Their baked section is to die for... they have vegan baked goods and gluten free for the GF ppl. -Salad bar always is changing with local options and fairly priced -Soup bar is my favorite! In winter, I dream of the split pea soup -Juice bar has a daily special and yes, the line can be tragic and make you question if you REALLY want to drink a green juice but it makes you feel healthy AF! -MOST IMPORTANTLY!! Customer of nearly 30 years that will never return again. The place has become increasingly unhygienic over the years, the aisles more crowded and compact, but the biggest issue is the incomprehensible rudeness of the staff. At least the rudeness of the staff was incomprehensible until I reached out to the now owner Jason Bander to make him aware of an issue in the store. Not having an issue in the store for the decades before, I never spoke with this fellow. I thought my story might help him make the place better if not actually garner an apology or solve the issue for me. But I did not get a seasoned professional that seemed to care about his business, who wanted to listen, or who wanted to learn. What i got was a taste of his special brand of angry, entitled, hate as he showed me his perceived superiority to everyone and everything and his apparent contempt for his customers. I suppose this is an example of why family business' rarely last more than a generation... his father started the place, and he is apparently taken the helm and is driving it into the ground. So now I know where the staff gets their horrible manners from. Health and Harmony on Hudson is just a few blocks away. It is larger, cleaner, less expensive, and the staff is far more helpful and polite too. And unlike decades ago when this place first opened, even chain stores like Trader Joes and Whole Foods carry excellent organic produce today as well as lots of food products from healthy brands of all types which makes to say cutting Lifethyme out of my life easy and painless. I suspect Lifethyme will go the way of so many others I have negatively reviewed. I seem to have a knack of picking the losers as they go out of business shortly after I post a well deserved negative Yelp review, and I just picked you Lifethyme. ps. have you seen all the hate expressed in the yelp reviews here in the last year. this place is doomed! good riddance! ps. Instead your go into a diatribe about how great you think you are, how unique you think your store is as if your therapist has told you to deal with criticism by just telling yourself how great you really are. Wooot this is #100 for 2013! LOVE LOVE LOVE shopping here over the other large supermarket that carries all the organic items in the city... The staff is really super personable and this place literally has everything you can think of for your organic, gluten free, vegan, raw, vegetarian needs! All of their produce is very fresh and the best thing of all is that they carry my favorite nut cheese brand Dr. Cow!!! I also love their prepared foods section too. They have a great healthy food bar section with an equally great salad bar as well. They make a kick ass raw/vegan chocolate cake and a carrot cake too! They also have a very large seating area upstairs for you to suit and enjoy your goodies! They also hold special weekly/monthly events and classes all to do with wellness and such. read more
