If you're in Dublin, do yourself a favor and stop by Gotham Cafe. We ended up visiting twice during our trip because our first experience was so good -- and the second visit somehow topped it! On my first visit, I ordered the warm seasonal salad, and it was absolutely delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced -- it felt comforting but still light. You can tell they really care about quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The second time around, I tried the vegan burger, and wow -- easily one of the best I've had. It was hearty, well-seasoned, and satisfying without feeling heavy. Even if you're not vegan, it's worth trying. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff were friendly both times we visited. Consistency can be hard to find when traveling, but Gotham Cafe nailed it twice in a row. Ate here recently for lunch as we casually walked around the shopping district in Dublin. Though the restaurant was very tight and crowded the food was pretty decent. I did not know that my pizza would come with a bunch of arugula piled high in the middle of the pie, but other than that I was pleased with the pizza that I ordered. A trendy spot in Dublin for the younger crowd. After reading the reviews of fellow Yelpers it appears I made a wrong choice of what I ordered so I partially blame this review on myself. It seems like pizza is the thing to get here and now I am sad that I didn't. I ordered the curry and rice. Although it was an okay dish it was both lacking the heartiness of curry at local pubs or the flavor profile of a Thai curry. It came off as a dish that wasn't quite imitating a proper curry from any culture. I did think that the presentation, the ambiance here and the service was all pretty good. I am not sure I'd return since it wasn't one of the more memorable meals that I had in Ireland, especially for dinner. read more

Lively cafe off the shopping district of Grafton Street. We met up with friends who come here often whenever they're in town. It has a family friendly menu and the pizzas come in two sizes. We were able to reserve a table at lunch for our large group. It does get a bit loud during the height of lunch hour but we were able to hear one another. Once we were served, we really didn't get much attention from the wait staff. We needed to ask for condiments like ketchup and vinegar. I highly liked this place. It isn't a tie and slacks establishment, rather a sit down for a weekday lunch or dinner. I had the flatbread avocado and chicken-it was something! Other dishes in my party included a pizza, avocado and poached egg on toast, and burger. All dishes got smiles, and each left us chatting about something other than the food. It reallywas a treat yup have for that did not kill the mood. You know those places where the bad food takes over the conversations. Anyway, as a heads up, this place stays busy and is worth the wait, so if you aren't willing to wait, the GBK food place just two doors down will do, but if I had too wait 30-45 minutes I would wait for Gotham. read more

You can get fairly reliable food at this cool modern bistro in the Grafton Street area. Gotham Café is nice for late night dining, which is sometimes hard to come by in this town. The restaurant is good at basics, so my advice is to stick to the pasta, salad and steak items. And maybe pizza, as another yelp-ie points out. I liked the salad but then, how hard can it be to mess up a salad? The vinaigrette was nice. However, the duck someone in our group ordered was tough. So don't get that, unless you're a duckoholic, I guess. Portions are generous for a Dublin eatery. Service might have been a tad slow but not unpleasant. Atmosphere and interior decor are very "Ikea". Walls are plastered with Rolling Stone magazine covers. As you'd expect, music is a bit LOUD. But it sort of works for the Gotham. Gotham Café is fine overall, so I'm pretty sure I would enjoy going back for lunch or dinner. read more

Excellent food, I have had many a good meal here over the years! the portions may not be huge, but the combinations of flavours are second to none! This is where we held the UYE Coronation Brunch for Dublin Yelp Queen Fiona L. 8 yelpers including the Queen herself attended the event! This was my first time here, I chose from the Brunch menu (which is only available on Sundays or Bank Holidays) I went for the chicken ciabatta which came with side portion of chips, (see attached photograph). It tasted nice but the chicken was a little bit cold, the sauce was tasty and warm though. Other yelpers opted for a desert type of brunch - banana pancakes and french toast, I had a taste of both of these and they were delicious especially the french toast and maple syrup, yum! The place is spacious with friendly staff, who brought us all glasses of water while we were waiting to order( I like places that bring you water without you having to ask!) All the walls are covered in framed rolling stones magazines with iconic images on the cover. Cool vibe to the place and lovely for a nice Sunday brunch! Gotham is something different! Have been in there yesterday since a year or so, used to go here of lunch quite a lot when I was working in the area too. They have great deals and choices for all kind of types - if you prefer healthy or munchie. The style of the cafe/restaurant is amazing, Rolling Stone magazine covers. American Diner style but chic. Food is more Mediterranean I'd say, the pizza is really nice, crispy, fresh and good amount on topics on it..the salads are worth the money too and also antipasti platter - yum yum yum. Not bad, not amazing. Just above average. Came here with the family recently for some food. Read good things online and it was in a suitable area. We all ordered some drinks, a starter, main and a dessert. The starter came out and was pretty great I must admit. If you do go here, get the garlic butter prawns. Rich in texture and flavour, a decent size portion and presented very well. I think this may have gotten my hopes up somewhat for the main. Now okay, I did order pizza, probably not the best thing to judge the place by but still felt like they could have done a little bit better. The pizza was plain, lacking a certain something that I can't exactly put my finger on. The expectation of a restaurant pizza for me is that it would have a different taste to one ordered from the local delivery place, maybe a different tasting dough, a special sauce or even just a selection of unusual toppings. This claimed to have the odd toppings and a funky name to go with it but for some reason I felt like I had just gotten my regular Dominos or Mizzoni's. The fontina cheese and baby potatoes were almost non existent. One of the other meal ordered was fish, with a mixture of seafood and sauce. The waiters and chefs did very well to accommodate in making the fish without the sauce as requested and it still turned out rather nice from what I hear. Our dessert was brought out shortly after we had selected it from the menu but we were left waiting for coffee and tea, a good ten minutes, it got to the point where we had to call a waiter. When the coffee did finally arrive, the Gotham Cheesecake went down along with it. Such a filling flavour, a unique taste and a decent size slice. One other small thing was the music that was playing in the background during our meal there. An odd selection that did not personally bother me but did the people I was with, and apparently the people sitting across from us too as they politely asked the staff to change it. Overall I feel three stars is fair, I will return to order something entirely different with the intention and hope of having to review my review. read more

The early bird menu is great value: two mains and two starters/desserts for €17. I'm picky about my pizza so I was pretty happy with the wide range. We went for the roast duck with scallions, cashew nuts and hoisin sauce. Delicious! The chips are tasty too and the beefburger was damn fine. We were going to sit outside until we saw the tables being dive bombed by pigeons but the indoor seating was nice and comfy, decor is low key and relaxing. What else? When i approached this restaurant, i was terrified it was going to be horribly juvenile, (like an expensive Eddie Rockets) but i was delighted to find a seriously well curated menu outside the door, so i decided to eat there by myself for the evening. SERIOUSLY GUYS, it was magical, i felt like a proper princess. Try the Gotham bubbles elderberry prosecco if you can. It comes in a dainty glass with a dollop of sorbet on top! Makes me feel like the love child of Carrie Bradshaw and Bruce Wayne when i eat there. The lighting down the back of the restaurant could be better, i sat at the front by the windows where it wasn't cramped. The bathrooms were lovely. I've always liked Gotham. I go here for lunch sometimes. It's a great location, the service is good, and the food is nice. I usually tend to be quite boring and opt for the chicken Caesar salad, which is always great, but last time I visited I went KER-AZY and had the evening special - which was an Indian chicken dish with steamed rice, cashew nuts and like a home-made tzatziki thing. It was really good. My favourite part is their desserts though - they do a great cheesecake and I would get up in the middle of the night for their sticky toffee pudding. This was a popular restaurant off Grafton Street, a lively shopping street in Dublin not far from the Temple Bar area. We did not have a reservation (suggested) but managed to get seated. Our table was not the most desirable spot, by the door and the cold would chill us every time someone came in, but we were starving! The restaurant has a trendy non pretentious vibe serving wood burning pizzas, salads, soups and other traditional American fare. I started with a creamy vegetable soup which was hot and delicious and followed by a huge calzone which came with greens. Service was attentive and friendly. I have been to Gotham café five or six times for dinner now and have never been disappointed. Great pizza, burgers and salads all reasonably priced. The Italian herb salad is always a winner with me, as is the caesar. The staff are great. Really accommodating and the menu is expansive, but not to the point where it confuses you. One gripe I have with the place are all the back issues of Rolling Stone, which is all well and good but completely pointless. I just don't get it. What are they there for. There's nothing Irish about it. Would they ever just stick up a few copies of Ireland's Own? Plus, it's named after my favourite fictional city in the world. read more

Have eaten here a few times and it does a perfectly adequate job for lunch time. The place is nice & bright and they have some nice seats outside if it's *shock* sunny out. This place usually gets really busy around lunchtime so coming early is advised. They do a fine selection of pizzas, burgers etc., the last time I was there I had the prawn salad. It was a fine sized portion but they just went too cray cray on the oil for my liking. Half the salad was soggy because of it, I didn't mind a whole lot because it still tasted fine but it was just a weird texture. Apart from that, the staff were friendly and courteous & the prices are slightly above average but still fairly reasonable. We popped in here for a quick bite while stomping around Dublin. It was just two of us and it was peak lunch time, so we weren't sure how quickly we would be seated. Not only were we seen right away, we were able to secure a table outside on the patio during a 70 degree sunny day! Service was attentive and the glass of rose wine we ordered went perfect with the weather. We ordered some basic NY staples: Pizza with goat cheese and pepperoni and sundries tomatoes and he got the steak sandwich. Both were delicious and were completely devoured within minutes! Our server was attentive - including clearing our dishes, asking if we were interested in dessert or coffee, and made sure our check was brought once we were finished. I greatly recommend this to any US travelers looking for a small slice of American food during their stay! read more

The Gotham Cafe is another a go-to spot for me. It's a nice and bright cafe located on South Anne Street. The staff are lovely and friendly. It's always busy enough but I've never been able to not get a table instantly. When I go to a restaurant that I know I usually always get the same thing and in Gotham it's the Chargrilled Herbed Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich. It's basically chicken covered in the most delicious sauce of all time. It's so nice that it's really hard not to get it. But recently I went and got the poached eggs with avocado and it was also really delicious. I think I would recommend it more as a lunch spot over dinner. I went there for dinner once and got a pizza which was pretty disappointing. I think the lunch menu finishes at 5pm. Overall it's a nice place and reasonably priced but in my opinion it's a 9/10 lunch spot but a 6/10 dinner spot. read more

Batman couldn't make this better. Food: It was tasty, however our mains were simply starters in disguise as they were pitifully small. Perhaps the non-lunch specials are heftier in portion. Functional. Prices: Poor value for the food, in my opinion. The terribly tiny portion in the soup and 'sandwich' combo for 7.25 Euro was inching close to robbery. Service: The service was functional. Our waiter was a bit curt, but I thought the floor manager was kind and polite. My experience: Three of my colleagues and myself thought we'd give this a try, since the Gourmet Burgers down the way had too long a wait. We were curtly seated amongst screaming children (seriously) and four menus were tossed on the table before us. I couldn't decide what I wanted. They had calzones, but again no pepperoni. Other items sounded interesting, but the prices were on the high side for a cafe. The four of us picked the soup and sandwich combo for 7.25 Euro. The soup was tomato and the sandwich was to be some ham, cheese, and rocket combo with a strawberry dressing. When the food arrived, it was so disappointing. While it tasted good, the portions were so very very small. A starter seemed bigger. I had a thinly cut piece of bread, one slice of wafer thin ham, a slice of cheese, and two rocket leaves. That was my so-called sandwich. Each one of us at the table was still hungry after lunch, which after spending 7.25 each, is not acceptable. Their regular size pizzas, which ranged around 11-13 Euros, are 8 inches. I acknowledge that some of the other portions and items may be better and more reasonable, but this experience was sullied and I'd likely not go back unless bribed with a voucher. read more

I really struggled how to rate this place, but I settled on "okay." There's nothing necessarily wrong with this restaurant, but it didn't blow me away either. When you enter it's nicely decorated with rolling stone covers on the wall, although their music did not necessarily "compliment" the magazine covers, they were playing mostly indie music. Not that I had anything against the music, just thought it was a bit funny. I was there with a large group of people for a work type function. We had to wait a few minutes while they pushed together the tables, but that was no bother. They very quickly took our drink orders, and the drinks were promptly brought out. A lot of the people there ordered pizzas, and I had the herb chicken with sweet potato fries. The dish was fine enough, but nothing to write home about. The amount of food that came out for my dish was enough to fill me up, but quantity and quality did not match up to the almost 18 euro price of the dish. Had I been paying for the dinner, probably would have been more displeased about the food. Not because it didn't taste good, but because it wasn't worth 18 euros. However, the pizzas everyone else ordered appeared to be good sized, and were about 15 euros, but didn't like anything I couldn't make at home for MUCH less. While the service was pretty good, I felt the food was overpriced for what you got. Unless I was going again for a work function, I probably won't visit this place again, just because you can get much better quality food for the same, or less, amount of money somewhere else. read more

I love pizza. It's possibly my favourite food. So I am a fan of the lovely range of different pizzas in Gotham Café. I particularly like that not all their pizzas are the standard tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and something else. On my most recent visit, about an hour ago, I had the Chinatown pizza, which has hoisin sauce, duck, cashews, springs onions (which I asked them to hold) and mozzarella. Yum. Really nice crispy base with tasty toppings that work really well. My other favourites form the pizza part of the menu are Little Italy - bacon, baby potatoes, pesto and spring onion (which I ask them to hold), and the Flatiron - barbeque sauce, chicken, pineapple, applewood cheese and red onion (which, you may have guessed, I ask them to hold). They also do salads, pasta dishes, a couple of curries and their dessert menu covers all tastes, with cheesecake, chocolate fudge cake, sticky toffee pudding, ice cream and sorbet. However, I was not best pleased with the service, which disappoints me as I do love their pizzas. When we arrived the host shouted 'table for two?' across to us from the top of the steps a couple of feet away. About 30 seconds later after we sat down (and he had thrown the menues on the table) he shouted from atop the steps we were sitting beneath to ask if we wanted a drink. Bearing in mind he hadn't even given us a wine menu or chance to draw breath this did not go down well. We then asked for and received the wine menu from a pleasant waiter and shortly afterwards ordered. The waitress who served us was nice and friendly too, asking had we enjoyed our meal with a smile. When she took our plates and asked if we wanted anything else and we requested a dessert menu, I expected to get one. No such luck, about fifteen minutes later after many attempts to get the attention of one of the five members of staff passing by every couple of minutes I got another waitress's attention and we got menus and eventually desserts. The restaurant was not overly busy, with many tables free when we arrived and one or two free by the time we left. They seemed to have enough staff on, but they weren't really paying attention to the tables. Another thing, which really wound us up was seeing someone from the kitchen bring out rubbish through the main restaurant while we there. First it was cardboard boxes and I thought well that's not so bad I suppose. Then it was a clear bag full of recyclables, which appears to have milk running down the side. Unpleasnt, unhygienic and unnecessary. In general, I've always preferred Independent Pizza Company to Gotham Café because I find the service much better and I fear I may have to trek there in future as the pizza is great in both, but the experience in Gotham left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I've walked past this place a million times, but last night was the first time that I decided to stop in. The name Gotham Cafe is fitting, as you call tell where it got its name from looking at the outside of the building. Once I walked inside, it was much different than I had expected it to be. The walls covered with albums and magazine covers of different celebs throughout the years, the low lit dining room to provide semi intimate dining. I didn't have a reservation and this place was jammed on a Thursday night. Even though it was packed, we were able to get a table upon our arrival during the peak of the dinner hour. As I had never been there before, I weighed heavily on the suggestion of a friend that I dined with who was a regular at this establishment. We had to have the guacamole for an app, I ended up ordering the Moroccan lamb burger with hummus and my friend ordered the penne with the spicy sausage. All I can say is wow. The portions are huge, the food is bursting with flavour and the prices are much too low for the amount of food you get. For one appetizer and two mains, our bill was under €32. That's unreal! There were at least 20 pizzas on the menu, half of which I'd like to eventually try. With that being said, I know I'll end up back at Gotham Cafe much sooner than later. Next time, I'll have to try a dessert from their lovely selection as I was too full to indulge this once. If Gotham City really did have its own cafe, I'm sure it wouldn't live up to the reputation of this one! read more

We had their pizza last year and it was fantastic. This time, we opted for the salmon and the chicken. Both meals were delicious!! The portions were nice and the prices were great. We arrived at that odd time about a half hour before brunch started and so they had a veeeery limited menu. (I had my heart set on the french toast too, bah!) Anyway, I ordered the smoked salmon bagel and himself got the bacon bagel and we ordered a pain au chocolat to split. He got camomile tea and I ordered peppermint.
