a plate of french fries and a burger
    Jonathan C.

Got up here just in time for lunch so I decided to go too a place I haven't been yet. The place is seat yourself and I sat down at the bar and was waited on quickly. It's looks like there was one waitress taking care of most of the place with some support filling waters and bussing. I ordered the rodeo burger and fries. The fries were the extra breading kind and were very good. The rodeo burger was delicious, as well!

    Pot Roast Dinner!! Yummy!!

A seat yourself family diner!! Waitress came with menu and drink offer within a minute of me sitting down!! She was very attentive and came back for my order in a couple of minutes! The kitchen was so quick that my main course was ready as soon as I got done selecting items from the salad bar!! The waitress asked how everything was tasting a couple of times while I was enjoying the meal!! Very nice to have excellent wait staff! There is a reason that a constant stream of locals kept coming in! I would definitely recommend eating here!

Huge portions! That's a QUART of Pepsi, right there, folks!

Let's be clear right from the start, The Grainery is a truck stop, not a gastropub. That said, I ordered a shrimp omelet, which is rare to find at a Midwest truck stop, and it was everything I hoped it would be: plenty of shrimp, not too much cheese, and covered in a tasty alfredo. Delish. The coffee was hot and the portions were enormous. My husband got a quart of icy cold Pepsi--I know this because it was served in a quart jar. My breakfast required three plates. My "small" pancake was 7 inches in diameter if it was an inch. I tried a few bites of my husband's chicken fried steak, and it was crispy, tasty and perfectly prepared. Our server was friendly, attentive and accurate, and she greeted us when we entered. Who could ask for more? Being a truck stop, the parking was ample. We were hauling a fifth-wheel, and we found plenty of space. Easy access from I-29. As for the name of this place, signage says both "Grainery Cafe" and "Stone's Grainery." Menus and receipts say "The Grainery." Overall great experience. We left satisfied.

You get a lot for your money, (for breakfast at least). I had a ham and Swiss omelette, and it was delicious! I would eat hear again if I happen to be passing thru Water Town again.

Juicy Lucy with Bacon. Nice crispy fries

Friday night. 8 pm low crowd. Fish dinner had a Fantastic coleslaw, nice batter on fish. Tarter sauce a little on sweet side for me but definitely would recommend. Great whip cream on cappuccino & fries were nice & crispy. Good service & atmosphere. Little chilly while eating so Gave it a 4 Star but would come back & recommend

Oh my gosh! The best chicken fried steak! Tender and huge. It came with eggs and hashbrowns and toast to for under $11

Ask for gravy on the side!

Food and service are both great! It's usually quite busy and the coffee is good too!

The warm wooden digs and lively vibe make it a proper escape in Watertown, SD, though the only drawback is the constant buzz of chatter drowning out what should be some good ol' Dropkick Murphys tunes. I was particularly impressed by the great pastrami on homemade rye--tender, tangy meat stacked high on fresh-baked bread that could make even a New Yorker do a happy jig. Their bartenders are absolute gems, slinging drinks and banter with the charm of seasoned storytellers who somehow remember your name after one visit. One quirky touch is how the floors creak underfoot, like they're gossiping about all the pints spilled before you. Strangely enough, the soup of the day was tequila, a boozy curveball that had the whole place toasting with confused delight and empty bowls. The house brews hold their own, pairing like old friends with the hearty grub. All in all, Dempsey's is a witty, wonderful Watertown, SD gem.
