Food and service are both great! It's usually quite busy and the coffee is good too!

We stopped in for some breakfast before going to the Terry Redlin Museum ( Art Center ) as we walked in we were immediately impressed with the casual, homey atmosphere it had with multiple oversized Tv's. Upon sitting down we were greeted within 2 minutes by our server,Darcy, who was quite helpful with some tips on a few questions we had. We placed our order of the Brisket melt sandwich & the Western Omelet. Our meal arrived in a very short time, 8 - 10 minutes & everything was very, very good with fair prices ( 2 meals & 2 beverages for $27.21 ) We absolutely will come back to The Grainery next time we find ourselves in Watertown. read more

Unbelievable poor service! Waited at least 20 minutes and no one came to wait on us so got up and left to go to another restaurant. Customers coming in after us got up to go find a waiter/waitress that could wait on their table. Appeared not enough help. If they can't hire help, they just need to close. read more

Ummm service. Sat at a table for 15 minutes. Never even talked to an employee. Got up to leave. Thought I'd offer them a suggestion at the cash register, but no employees there either. The cooks do not wear gloves and the servers will stir your drinks with their fingers if they don't like you. This place is nasty in the back and multiple people have reported food poisoning after eating here. Would not recommend to my worst enemy read more

Got up here just in time for lunch so I decided to go too a place I haven't been yet. The place is seat yourself and I sat down at the bar and was waited on quickly. It's looks like there was one waitress taking care of most of the place with some support filling waters and bussing. I ordered the rodeo burger and fries. A seat yourself family diner!! Waitress came with menu and drink offer within a minute of me sitting down!! She was very attentive and came back for my order in a couple of minutes! The kitchen was so quick that my main course was ready as soon as I got done selecting items from the salad bar!! The waitress asked how everything was tasting a couple of times while I was enjoying the meal!! Very nice to have excellent wait staff! Where do I start... Before all this fake pandemic BS started and everything went to hell, this was a favorite place of mine to eat. I used to go hungry just to eat here. No more. Whoever did the cooking before is obviously gone. My first meal here this year (in April) was barely edible. It was hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, vegetable-of-the-day, roll and water to drink. The roll and water were excellent. I could go into detail about how bad the rest of the meal was. The waitress never returned. I wanted to return the meal, but she was busy socializing with other people. So, I had to get my bill from another employee. I tried giving most of the meal to my dogs. They sniffed the potatoes and vegetable. They tried chewing the hamburger steak, but dropped it back in the "to go" container. Damn. My second attempt at a decent meal was a better experience, but still not good. I ordered the pulled pork, baked potato, roll, baked beans and coleslaw. Big mistake. The pork was a bit dry, but edible. The baked potato was luke warm, so a different waitress warmed it up. The baked beans were in a little condiment cup and stone cold. The coleslaw was warm and also in a little condiment cup. It tasted like Elmer's glue. The BBQ sauce was appropriately in a condiment cup. The sauce was sickeningly sweet and I nearly spit it out on my plate. It is probably high fructose corn syrup with artificial flavor and color. Nasty. I have always used the rule of 3's when trying any restaurant, store, etc. Go there 3 times at different times of day and different days of the week. If it is bad after that, never return. I have one more trip planned for The Grainery. I hope people with skills are in the kitchen and I have a waitress gives a damn. read more

Let's be clear right from the start, The Grainery is a truck stop, not a gastropub. That said, I ordered a shrimp omelet, which is rare to find at a Midwest truck stop, and it was everything I hoped it would be: plenty of shrimp, not too much cheese, and covered in a tasty alfredo. Delish. The coffee was hot and the portions were enormous. My husband got a quart of icy cold Pepsi--I know this because it was served in a quart jar. My breakfast required three plates. My "small" pancake was 7 inches in diameter if it was an inch. I tried a few bites of my husband's chicken fried steak, and it was crispy, tasty and perfectly prepared. Our server was friendly, attentive and accurate, and she greeted us when we entered. Who could ask for more? Being a truck stop, the parking was ample. We were hauling a fifth-wheel, and we found plenty of space. Easy access from I-29. As for the name of this place, signage says both "Grainery Cafe" and "Stone's Grainery." Menus and receipts say "The Grainery." Overall great experience. We left satisfied. read more

I am so sad leaving my last dinner at the end of a lovely vacation after eating at the Grainery. We sat close to the kitchen and for 45 minutes listened to the cooks swearing "F...." this and "F...ing" that in every sentence. We felt so badly for the two young servers one of whom was the manager and when we complained she informed us that they have been talked to multiple times. We understand that it is hard to get help at restaurants right now but we will clearly never come to this restaurant on our next trip to Watertown and would share the feedback with anyone who asked. No one should have to work or pay to eat in that environment. read more

Top notch breakfast. We both had the Truckers Special, 2 eggs, choice of meat, hash browns and toast. Everything came out perfectly. Hash browns were brown and crispy and lots of them, thick sliced bacon cooked just right, toast was actually toasted and buttered and eggs were cooked exactly as ordered. Food was out quickly and our waitress was awesome. Nice clean restaurant that was quite busy. Definitely a place we will stop at next time through. read more

Nice looking from the outside! Went inside and it's okay. It's a seat-yourself establishment and most of the tables we tried to choose were not cleaned, yet. Having finally found a clean booth, we perused the menu and overheard the server says, "That's our special and we always sell out of it within 2 hours, so we don't have anymore." My question is, if it always sells out within 2 hours, why doesn't this establishment prepare MORE? I'm not sure what the special was, but they were out of jambalaya and lasagne. My dining partner got the brisket. It was VERY tasty (I tried it), but very fatty. They could have trimmed it A LOT before serving it. Because they were out of lasagne, I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which was good. The Caesar salad that came with it, though...the dressing tasted way too salty. I don't know exactly what I expected from a truck-stop restaurant, but it was far better than expected. The salad bar was nicely stocked, although by california standards, it was definitely very plain ingredients. In addition to the green salad, it included pasta salad, potato salad, and a variety of jello/cream/cottage cheese concoctions. I also had the ribs, which after the salad bar was almost too much. The food was good, and the prices were reasonable. As a bonus, the truck stop has wonderful showers available for just $ 8 ... for the road-weary traveler. Good to know if you're camping in a place without shower facilities. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday at around 8:30 a.m. Entire menu was available but the five of us decided on breakfast. Service was nice and not too slow. Portions are huge - you'll get three plate-sized pancakes with the pancake order. The description of the biscuits and gravy might throw you, but it is a traditional southern sausage gravy and it was delicious. I loved my trucker's breakfast with eggs over easy and perfectly cooked bacon. read more

I used to drive back and forth from Sioux Falls to Aberdeen a few times a year and each time I would stop and eat at the Grainery. Now that I live much closer I just find myself there for no particular reason, other than the fact that the Grainery provides truck stop food at it's finest. I like their salad bar and love it when they have their buffets, but I will jump into their menu as well. Especially their breakfast menu! There is ample dining space and it is divided into one area that feels like a small town diner and another larger area which is nicely decorated and offers ample seating. The whole place is normally clean and I have never had a complaint about poor service. The restrooms are down the hallway in an area that connect the convenience store with the restaurant, and that area could be nicer. But that's what you get at a truck stop. What you don't expect to get is such a wide variety of delicious foods. read more

Walked in and tables were dirty. We had to choose the only table next to loud and annoying people. After a long day of trucking we just wanted quiet. Ordered our food and my salad came 5 min before food, but it took 25 min to get my salad. They had 2 servers on and the one older girl was running circles around the younger one. Our food finally came out and my steak was well done and not medium / medium rare. My boyfriend ordered home fries with his meal and they were burnt. He also ordered an English muffin but got burnt white bread. While we were sitting there a gentlemen ordered a dinner roll with his dinner and it came out with mold on it .... they have to large of a menu to try to produce quality food. They need to slim it down and focus on quality not quantity. They also over charge for the lack of quality. read more

This is a friendly truck stop type restaurant. We ate here four times during our stay in Watertown. Our first meal was good. I had a ham and cheese omelet with a side pancake. My husband had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. They have a breakfast buffet on the weekends. It offered a large variety and most items were all right. There's just nothing outstanding or unique. You find some things you like are all right, but others are a miss. The waitresses were always helpful and polite. I would suggest the chicken fried steak with white gravy. It's truly their best thing and is delicious. I had another omelet and it was full of meat and cheese sauce. It was more filling than egg and the balance was way off. Our toast was a mix of good and burnt. We were both surprised to find the burnt ones under the good toast. I think the menu has potential but it's not always living up to it. Go, have the CFS with gravy or a pancake with some iced tea or whatever beverage you enjoy. read more

My husband drives truck he and a friend stopped in there to eat supper. The salad bar was a separate $4 so they ordered the hamburger deluxe and the salad bar. Went here on a Saturday around 4pm. when we went in there was two tables already sat with one fully served in the area we sat in. (other sections of restaurant were empty) the other table had menu's already. so we sat down and looked around watched a little TV sitting on wall. 3 waitress moving around on other side of restaurant. We waited and watched as the table that had their menu's when we first sat down get their food. (about 15 minutes). Finally we get a menu and a apology for taking so long. About this time some more people show up and sit down. with their seats barely warmed up (less then half a minute) our waitress give them menu's on her way to give us our water. (she was vary quick with the water)we ask for a minute as we just got our menus a minute or so before. So a couple minutes go by and we see her taking an order from the table that had sat down after us. No Biggy, we did ask for a minute. so we wait and wait and wait. (About 10 minutes) then we see the food for the other table that sat after us being served by our waitress. At this time I'm getting a little disturbed. I wait another 5 minutes. First off let's start by saying I'm not picky by any means, but I'm a truck driver and as far as truck stops Cgo this one is terrible. The restaurant was out of half the stuff on the menu, the burger I got was dry, and the onion rings I got you could definitely tell that they had been frozen way too long. It's not like me to leave a meal unfinished, especially at that high price, but I walked out this dissatisfied.
