The chili fries special with ground beef and onion was pretty filling- I took half home. They also have chocolate, strawberry and vanilla milkshakes as well. You probably only need the small size which is what I got. The power went out for about 30 minutes or so, so we had to wait to pay, but the server was so nice and kept us updated. read more

I've been here a few times and it's a fun place to eat. Old school feel. The food is always good, and you get large portions. The service is always fast, and the waitresses seem to enjoy working there which is always a plus. In Novi you have many choices on where to eat, and this one is a plus. Give it a try. Orders would take about 15 minutes to be ready. The styrofoam helps insulate the heat, however keep in mind all of your sandwiches, onion rings, fries, burger bun, pita and Rueben will be soggy after a carry out to your final location. This was my first time coming here. This diner is super cute and looks like an old school restaurant. The inside looks like a 50s Café if they have a jukebox in old school clocks, the milkshake we got was mostly ice cream so it wasn't our favorite. Chili had good flavor, super liquidy. Nacho cheese was mild, not overwhelming and on the thin side. The fries were thick though. This was a great diner experience. It's an original diner, and looks exactly as you'd expect. Black and white floors, counter stools, James Dean and Marilyn on walls and counters. I ordered corned beef hash and my friend had a vegetable omelette. Everything was excellent, cooked perfectly, and delicious. Very nice 50's style retro diner with good food at a very reasonable cost. We ended up at this business for a breakfast get together based on the positive YELP reviews and were not disappointed. The Menu offers a pretty wide variety of choices to include Eggs Benedict, skillets, omelets, eggs to order, pancakes, waffles and the list goes on and on. Our food for our first meal here was well Cooked with good taste and fairly large portion size. The other key item to note relative to the menu are their weekday breakfast specials which are extremely reasonable in my opinion, especially when compared to other breakfast joints in the area and their post Covid inflated prices. As an example, the two egg Grand Diner special with potatoes, choice of meat and toast was only $6.99. What a DEAL! Food aside, the service was friendly and prompt with excellent follow-up throughout the meal. Along these lines, the staff continuously refills your coffee cup throughout the meal without prompting which is a pet peeve of mine and something that all good restaurants should do but many fail at in this area. Relative to ambiance, I love the 50's Diners theme from their period correct table seating, counter seating, Old style Jukebox, and decor that added an element of fun to the dining experience where I halfway expected the Fonz to be walking through the door at any time! Ehhhhh! Overall, I was quite impressed with the business where I viewed the food as four stars in my mind but the value equation on their prices pushes this business into 5 star territory for me. Love this place! The food tastes homemade. Ordered their slim jim which has real ham sliced off the bone, (not lunchmeat), crispy lettuce, melted Swiss cheese, fresh tomatoes and mayonnaise on a delicious hogie type bun. The sandwich is large enough to take 1/2 home and it's just as good cold and right out of your fridge as it is when first ordered. I asked for "crispy" onion rings...they were crisped just right not greasy and the batter tasted homemade. They were unlike the out of freezer greasy fried in stale oil ones you usually get most other places. My friends ordered their burgers and raved about them. Their shakes are the best. I really love the look of this restaurant/diner. The building is right off the main road with a large parking lot. No steps to access the front door and the minute you arrive there is an excellent 1950-1960 music theme decor. Even a jukebox! When we arrived today seating was limited and the section on the right was closed. The remaining section was packed with the booth In the corner by the window on its side. The air conditioner or vent in the ceiling above our table was being held up with duct tape and if we did sit at the bar the dishes were over flowing in the sinks. Nothing you really want to look at when you are eating. My father and I both had a chocolate shake. It's made with vanilla soft serve ice cream not hard ice cream so it was very soupy not thick. The wait staff was friendly and kind. Moving about the space helping where they could when they could. We decided not to dine eat so we ordered our meal to go (lamb gyro). We were greeted with smiling faces and the smell of delicious breakfast foods. The restaurant is just like an old school diner. They have a jukebox, bar stool seating, and old style booths. Our server was attentive and very informative of the menu. While I have driven by this place a thousand times, its only when something came across my feed about "50's Diner with the best burgers in Michigan" that I decided to stop in. I will say the staff are very friendly and engaged and certainly look after you. One of my favorite dishes - and one not commonly serves is goulash - and they had it as the special. So, I asked about it and of course, my waitress raved it up - which is her job. With solid confidence, it was the worse meal I can recall ever having at a restaurant and certainly by far the worst goulash. I am not convinced it met the requirements of goulash. What I got was tasteless tomato sauce with ground beef/hamburger. There seemed to be some evidence of chopped green pepper in there. Oddly, on one side of the bowl was a small amount of chopped white cheese - not melted or baked in, just tossed in. And 3 of the waitresses and the owner all asked if I wanted parmesan cheese. Why? It's not spaghetti? To makes the meal that much worse, the dish ranged from tepid to cold depending on where I dug in the spoon. My assumption was either the noodles were cold and warm goulash poured over - or - the opposite, hot noodles and they poured cold goulash on top. Now, if the issue was only the temperature, I would have asked to warm it up - but, why bother. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Decent coffee that was filled many times. The coleslaw was good. The overall prices seemed reasonable. I guess if I go back, I'll try a burger. read more

This is a favorite near my house - my husband and I like the cool, diner interior complete with atomic formica tabletops. The food is standard diner fare, with very large portions and a large variety of items to choose from. Breakfast is served all day - a huge bonus in my opinion! I've taken friends who are doing WW and those who are restricting several types of food here and they had no problem finding items they could eat. Portions are large - I usually have leftovers. Our visit to The Grand Diner was enjoyable from start to finish. The place was hoping with guests when we arrived, but despite being do busy, the staff was courteous, friendly, and eager to serve us. The diner itself is charming, and the jukebox takes you back in time. Since it was a gorgeous day, we choose to sit outside. My husband and I both ordered one of the daily specials: me, the Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle, and him, the Country Fried Steak and Eggs. I also ordered a half order of Biscuits and Gravy since this was going to be our only meal of the day. Yum, yum, yum! Everything was mouthwatering and delicious. The presentation was excellent too. In fact, my waffle was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. The biscuits and gravy were terrific, the best I've ever had! My only regret is that we are not locals, and therefore, I don't know when we'll get back here. But I can guarantee that we will be back someday. Had some business to do in the area today. So I did a quick search for breakfast places and the great diner showed up. It was literally half a mile away so I gave it a shot. As soon as you walk in the door, they welcome you as if you've been coming there for a while. There were two waitresses, a blonde and a brunette. Both very friendly and nice to talk to you. Quaint old-school diner just off I-96 at Wixom Road. It's not large, but there are about 20 booths and tables and 6 stools at the counter. I'm from the Memphis, TN and had to come up here on business. I've never been to Michigan, but from what I've been told my entire life northerners are rude. This is the best representation of a diner that I can think of! Friendly smiles and warm greetings upon entering. Limited seating with a bar and mostly booths. In and out in under 20 minutes and a vast menu serving up everything you can dream of! I got the classic club sandwich and I literally didn't have a big enough mouth to fit around this behemoth! I forgot to take a picture, but take my word for it, this sandwich is Sasquatch big! Tasty as well! They have a bunch of different fry styles to choose from and I got steak fries.
