The Grape & Ale is a wonderful little shop on Oak Island. As its name suggests, you can buy - and taste - both wine and craft beer. It's a cozy, well-stocked space with an entire room of wines below $12, along with a box of discounted closeouts. In the main area, wines are sorted by price levels, the highest on top. Based on the inventory I saw, you'll be able to find a wine to fit any palate and price range. During tastings, things can get a little crowded, so if you're claustrophobic like me, plan to arrive early to miss the heaviest crowds. There's also a lovely outdoor area with a fire pit behind the store that served as a calm oasis during my visit. The owners are knowledgeable, friendly, and host both wine and ale tastings. I believe Thursdays are ale and Fridays are wine, but please call or visit their website to confirm, and to see what adult beverages you'll be sampling. If you're lucky, you'll get to pet Napa, the resident wine dog, during your visit. What a sweetie.

I love the Grape and Ale! This business is local and family owned which is a win in my book. Year after year they consistently provide the best wine selection on the island with unique flavors from all over the world. I found some of my favorite wines right here in this shop. I really enjoy the free wine tastings on Friday night but be sure to grab a bottle of wine on your way out. They recently added a beer area as well with several taps to choose from. It is my understanding they offer beer tastings on Thursday nights as well. They have a ton of craft beer in the cooler which makes for a unique selection unlike your regular ole grocery store. Definitely visit the Grape & Ale if you're in the market for a beverage or a wine tasting experience!

Amazing place. Wonderful staff and overall vibe. Great selection of beer and wine. Don't skip this place! We stop by every time we visit the area!

Local business worth supporting. Only Bottle Shop on the Island Fantastic selection of wines. Pretty good revolving beer list, both taps(growlers or pints) and bottles/cans. Covid seating is limited to outdoor tables and masks are required by statute. The service is great. In late July I inquired about 2020 Octoberfest biers, and a few days later they had one of my faves ready for me!

Burgers and Brews just okay. Too crowded and burgers overcooked. Toppings cheap selection. Don't waste your time. Go to Southport.

Thanks Yelp for helping me find my new favorite spot for sandwiches, ready made food for dinners,…read moreraw meats for grilling, and cold salads in the Oak Island and Southport area! This place is a total gem, and at least for now, a hidden one. You'll find this spot tucked into the old shopping center with the blue metal roof behind Cook Out and McDonalds. Hard to miss the intersection, it's the one they have seemingly been doing construction on forever, leading to the "old bridge" to Oak Island. It was my birthday, and having been asked where I wanted to go for lunch, I went on the hunt for a great place I had not been to before. We visit Oak Island a couple times a year, and some of the old favorites just weren't calling to me. I found this place, a little slice of NY style deli heaven marooned on the Carolina coast. Inside you'll find a full service butcher shop and deli. There is a small grocery section, mostly stocked with Italian favorites, ingredients, and baked goods. There you'll also find coolers and freezers, stocked with homemade "take and bake" entrees, perfect for feeding yourself or a crowd for those beach vacation nights where you don't really want to cook, but also can't bear to go out. There's also a meat counter here where you can select your favorite steaks, sausages, poulty, and more. But the star of the show here is right in front of you when you walk in. The made to order sandwiches counter. This is a treasure trove of hoagie and hero sandwiches, stuffed to the brim on fresh baked bread, and at a very reasonable price given the size and quality. It's hard to pick one with so many tempting options, but on my first visit, I went with the meatball parm, and man was I glad I made that decision. the meatballs are the size of an average human fist, and packed full of flavor. They cut them in half to fit on each side of your sandwich, but in total you get two of those big suckers on there with mozzerella cheese, parmesean cheese, and plenty of marinara. Messy sandwich of course, but you definitely have to try it, the flavors are awesome. Every sandwich ordered across multiple visits and tastes was always given the highest reviews. The reuben was absolutely phenomenal, the cheesesteak very meaty and creamy, the chicken parm was filling and robust, the cuban, the Italian... on and on. They're all delicious. I can't imagine you can go wrong. We also bought a cadre of cold salads, like their excellent loaded baked potato salad, couscous, pasta salads, antipasto salads... anyway you get the point. Go here. Enjoy. Support this local business. Make sure this gem sticks around for a long long time!

I usually use Lowe's foods to go. I want to give a big shout out to Cathy and Kay, who constantly shop for my orders. Every now and then there will be something missing or something out of date, but it's when a new person is shopping. The inside offers pretty much anything you could ask for in a grocery store. Produce is fresh, deli meat is great, and everything is well stocked. On the other hand bakery items are often at times dry, and every now and then dairy products are expired. Please make sure you take things off the shelves if it is out of date or old. Bathrooms could be a little cleaner and better stocked. Checkout lines move fast, but the self checkout is ridiculous. After you scan an item it'll make you wait for about 10 seconds until it detects you have put that item in the bag, even though you did. Sometimes it will say "Please remove unscanned item from the bagging area" even though you scanned the item. That issue needs to be resolved because it gets on mine and other peoples nerves. Lowe's Foods, there's room for improvement. 3 stars here.
