Thanks Yelp for helping me find my new favorite spot for sandwiches, ready made food for dinners, raw meats for grilling, and cold salads in the Oak Island and Southport area! This place is a total gem, and at least for now, a hidden one. You'll find this spot tucked into the old shopping center with the blue metal roof behind Cook Out and McDonalds. Hard to miss the intersection, it's the one they have seemingly been doing construction on forever, leading to the "old bridge" to Oak Island. It was my birthday, and having been asked where I wanted to go for lunch, I went on the hunt for a great place I had not been to before. We visit Oak Island a couple times a year, and some of the old favorites just weren't calling to me. I found this place, a little slice of NY style deli heaven marooned on the Carolina coast. Inside you'll find a full service butcher shop and deli. There is a small grocery section, mostly stocked with Italian favorites, ingredients, and baked goods. There you'll also find coolers and freezers, stocked with homemade "take and bake" entrees, perfect for feeding yourself or a crowd for those beach vacation nights where you don't really want to cook, but also can't bear to go out. There's also a meat counter here where you can select your favorite steaks, sausages, poulty, and more. But the star of the show here is right in front of you when you walk in. The made to order sandwiches counter. This is a treasure trove of hoagie and hero sandwiches, stuffed to the brim on fresh baked bread, and at a very reasonable price given the size and quality. It's hard to pick one with so many tempting options, but on my first visit, I went with the meatball parm, and man was I glad I made that decision. the meatballs are the size of an average human fist, and packed full of flavor. They cut them in half to fit on each side of your sandwich, but in total you get two of those big suckers on there with mozzerella cheese, parmesean cheese, and plenty of marinara. Messy sandwich of course, but you definitely have to try it, the flavors are awesome. Every sandwich ordered across multiple visits and tastes was always given the highest reviews. The reuben was absolutely phenomenal, the cheesesteak very meaty and creamy, the chicken parm was filling and robust, the cuban, the Italian... on and on. They're all delicious. I can't imagine you can go wrong. We also bought a cadre of cold salads, like their excellent loaded baked potato salad, couscous, pasta salads, antipasto salads... anyway you get the point. Go here. Came yesterday to get my usual. Chicken salad, potatoe salad, caprese salad and hot fresh Italian loaf. They were very busy around 11:30. Service was pleasant and quick. Came home and ate both some of the potatoe salad and chicken salad. The potatoe salad did not taste like it usually does. Had a weird taste, maybe a different mayonnaise? I didn't taste the bacon in it at all! Chicken salad was not as good as usual either. The bread was yummy like always. Not sure I would come back as the prices didn't match the quality this time. Amazing! Cutest little store, wouldn't have known about this place since it's tucked in behind the main intersection near cookout. Best Reuben sammich I've ever had. Kinda pricey but worth it if you want the real deal.

I was visiting the area after our family vacation and we stopped in for lunch. I got the brisket sub with grilled onions and horse radish sauce. It was EXCELLENT!! From the roll to the tender meat to the mild cheese and the tangy sauce - it was the best sub I've ever had. The entire staff was friendly and even the bathrooms were exemplary. Stopped in today for lunch and take a look around the store. Everyone was so pleasant, some great looking salads behind the case, and lots of items you dont find in your bigger supermarkets. Oh my god! Best wrap ever! These guys know quality. You can taste it. The food was delicious. It's hard to find good wraps. The meat is very high quality. You can taste the tomatoes so also excellent. The wrap is now my favorite. They are quick, and the store is a good vibe of a New York deli.(as close as you can for the south) The service is seriously great. They don't want to to wait! Love this restaurant! read more

After traveling all week for work, I was tasked with a meal train for a member of my small group. Their only stipulation was no pork. I saw the Facebook posts about this new venue and felt i could safely get them an edible meal without cooking. I was quickly impressed by the selection. After touring the store I settled on eggplant roll ups, slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, shrimp salad, meatballs and broccoli rabe to add some green to the "snack dinner". Approaching the check out counter i found a nice loaf of bread. Our friends raved about the meal. Oh, and I picked up a shrimp salad for myself - it was delicious. read more

Ordered a meatball hero the first time and my husband said it wasn't anything great. The second time I ordered a chicken cutlet parm hero and got a meatball hero. The third time I told them what had happened and the man there who was extremely rudely said that was impossible because he made it himself. Like I was lying. I asked to see what was in the hero before they wrapped it and it was a chicken cutlet parm which my husband said was awful. No apology for their mistake. Spoke to a few people who had been to the shop and said that that man was very rude. He must run it with another woman who was embarrassed by his attitude. Most of the people I spoke to said they weren't going back. The food wasn't good and no one needed his attitude. They lost my business. read more

Okay, so there is a sort of new guy in Southport, Back Home Butcher. Sorta' because they are affiliated with The Butcher of Brunswick...which isn't a bad thing. Fabulous sandwiches: brisket & eggplant parm. were Aces. The arancini's were decent, the knishes are so-so. Fairly quick turnaround form ordering to go. Great selection of: To Go Meals, meats, cheeses and deli items (pasta, Chix salad, etc.) Sit-down counter space & tables...think dinner. Large To Go selection already cooked meals. My wife went in to pick up some sandwiches for her coworkers and was insulted by a staff member to the point where she was crying in front of everyone. Unacceptable behavior from these people...Someone should have told them to leave their Jersey and New York attitudes up north. There is no place for this here, especially by staff. read more

Oh my goodness, was this the best sandwich ever! Roast beef and Swiss cheese, made on the most delish homemade Italian bread. I would eat this every day if I lived here. Fantastic butcher, deli and market in Southport NC. Incredible ambience, and the food was fantastic. My wife and I ordered sandwiches and ate them down in Southport on the waterfront, but we easily could have sat inside as it was beautifully designed and decorated. A week ago I had the best beef vegetable onion mushroom broth. It was like having a pot roast supper in a soup. Hunks of meat heaven It was wonderful. I wish that they would put their soups on menu. I know they have different soups everyday, but and you can't call to see what the soup of the day is. So I hope you get your phone line in to take out orders. I think you get even more business. . Your food is like mom home cooking. Kudos I look forward to eating with you again especially the soups. As has this is cold and flu season and that's the best soup in this town .
