If you are a bit of an adventure seeker or just looking to test your Ninja/Spartan/Tough Mudder warrior skills this spot could be for you. This location is for all ages, pre-teens to adults. Kind of wish when I was a kid they were around to be a birthday party option...talk about the extra cool gift that friend would get simply for offering such a fun, physically and mentally safe place to challenge oneself. Okay so I'm a thrill seeker at times and like to challenge myself, so whether with friends, dates, strangers or self I'm in for fun where I can get it. This location even has auto belay wall areas, so if you didn't think you or your friends were strong enough to keep you right, or you just wanted to challenge yourself as a solo adventurist, you could do so very safely. For those that want slightly more of a challenge and trust their gripping skills, definitely check out their bouldering walls, its totally worth it. From someone whom has climbed elsewhere i will say their wall designs/setups are definitely challenging, so learn to understand the # ratings so you don't get discouraged, just keep working the angles and you'll get it. If not their staff is super top notch and happily will help you along the way if needed. For a newer location I'm loving the openness and cleanliness, even more so here post re-opening in COVID 2020 year. Encourage all to definitely give them a try, you won't regret or forget the experience(s).

This gym is awesome for climbing. The crew are nice and friendly. The walls are clean, tall, and wide. This place is generally not occupied like other gyms (Cliffs, BKB, etc) which is good to keep your distances (6ft separation) during COVID times. The climbing method is more reachy and traverse compared to other gyms The only cons is that because this gym is generally not occupied, the holds are kind of new and are like sand paper, which could hurt your fingers a bit. Also, the amount of lead routes are fewer than The Cliffs at LIC, not cool but OK to live wth Overall, this place is wonderful to come and enjoy an amazing time

Great for all levels. Nice big place with a lot of personal space. For beginners you can ask away with questions. I prefer this much better to Brooklyn boulders. I've been rock climbing over 13 years now, and this place had the most diverse paths for all skill levels, and it wasn't competitive to get on the wall. It was all wide open and empty. Great staff too, took the time to help my sister. 10000000/10, stars will be coming again!

    Found it!

This place by far was an amazing experience. It was clean, the staff was knowledgeable and one of the best parts is it didn't break the bank for me to bring my 3 kids there. It was about $75 for 3 children to climb for a full hour and included climbing shoes and harness rental. The hour was PLENTY of time and I dont think they would have lasted any longer. They were climbing 40' tall walls the whole time with a private coach who showed them how to belay. My kids are hooked and we will be coming back more frequently since it's affordable.

This place was amazing! Took my 3 boys ages 7-9 and we did a one hour instructor-Bellay. Worth every penny. I'll do it again. Our bellay was so patient. Very kid friendly. The facility is spotless and full of options. I'll be back!!!!

I grabbed a year membership shortly after I first came here. This place is worth every dollar. From staff to environment this facility hits it out of the park every time for me. The setters & members are friendly and fun to be around. Everyone from Kris/Lyndsey/Dave/Adam & Yazmine to name a few. I always look forward to my next visit. CONS - 1 - wish the walls were more urban looking 2- wish there were more auto belays for climbers whom don't have a partner.

I brought my little monkeys here today and they loved it! Evan was so patient and good with them. We had a blast and when we left they were so exhausted that they passed out in the car (major bonus!)

The facility is great, the staff is friendly and welcoming. For leaders and top-ropers, the walls offer a rich variety of angles and styles: there are slabs and roofs! Some of the routes consist of spicy combinations of overhanging-to-slab transitions. The arch is the must for the lead! After two days of climbing we climbed all leadable routes below 5.12. Many people asked me if the grading was too soft. Well... I do not think so. Some of the routes are pretty stiff in terms of the grade; some of them are soft, some just right where they should be. So on average the grading is fine for lead. What really matters: The routes are fun. I do like the current (grand opening) set -- those underclings on the overhangs are fantastic ;) , a lot of technical moves and long routes. We have not tried any hard route 5.12-5.13 yet; we are saving them for the next week. We are excited to try!

    Rock climbing fun.

My husband and five year old climbed for the first time last weekend. They both really enjoyed it. Their instructor Spencer was friendly, and patient with our son who was scared to climb at the beginning. The Gravity Vault is a fun, clean place to rock climb indoors on Long Island. I felt my son was securely fastened and safe. In the end, they both had a great time! Good place to burn some energy for the little ones. They also offer birthday parties.

Ask the Community - The Gravity Vault - Melville

What are the house rules for whether volumes/aretes/features are on or off-route?

Volumes are on and aretes are typically off, it usually says on the grade card.

How tall are the highest routes (in feet)?

Hi J B. Thanks for your interest in our routes. Our walls themselves are 40ft. and so the routes, depending on the angle of the wall, float between 40 and 50ft in length. Currently our longest route is a lead only route that goes through our lead… Read more

We were allowed into the room 15 minutes before the party started to set up our decorations, including tablecloths and balloons, which made the space look great. The staff member was very nice, and we had two people assigned to help us throughout the event. The kids started with 30 minutes of supervised jumping and had a blast! Afterward, we headed to laser tag; the TVs weren't working, so we couldn't see the scores, but the kids still had a lot of fun. Then, we went to the party room for pizza. The two staff members seemed to be struggling a bit, so I offered to help out, but my guests still had a wonderful experience and no one complained. A tip was already included in the package, but we gave the staff a little extra on the side for their hard work. Once the party ended, the kids were able to stay and play in the arcade for a while. Choosing the 7:00 PM time slot was perfect because the place wasn't crowded, we practically had the whole facility to ourselves! I would definitely recommend this place for parties, especially for older kids.

Great time here at the Rock Club…read more Purchased a Groupon and decided to visit on a Friday morning. Called ahead and the front desk staff were very quick in getting back to me to confirm that a belayer was available at that time. They also confirmed the Groupon over the phone. I went ahead and completed the required waiver forms online prior to our visit. Adequate parking was available at that time. The Rock Club (downstairs) shares its space with a with a tennis club, so make sure you follow the ramp down toward the Rock Club entrance and NOT the stairs whih leads to the tennis club. We arrived at around 10am and it was fairly empty. The Rock Club staff explained the process and set us up with climbing shoes. We were then introduced to our belayer who was awesome. Over the next hour, we tried climbs ranging in difficulty. The wall heights range from about 35-40 feet and the peg placement and wall angles vary throughout the climbs, making some more difficult than others. We even had some time to try some bouldering. Our belayer was great at explaining techniques and technical terms. She was very patient and very encouraging...though not "pushy" at all. After we finished, the staff was nice enough to show us around to see what else was available at the facility: childrens area, common areas, training rooms and weight rooms. May go without saying...wear comfy clothes. As a regular gym-goer, but someone who has NOT climbed before, this was a welcomed challenge. Certain muscles, particularly the forearms and core, may not be part of the typical gym regimen...but are very important in climbing...that being said, I was definitely feeling it the next day. Overall we had a great experience at the Rock Club. We will deinifitely look into other classes. Kudos to all the staff members there.

If you and your climbing partner have a significant weight difference or you like feeling terrified…read morejust top roping - DO NOT GO HERE. This is the literal only gym I've ever been to that just drapes the top-ropes over the anchors, rather than looping them over once. (And I used to climb at the Movement in San Francisco which this was NOT the case at.) This creates a HUGE issue for the lighter weight climber when belaying, and is frankly so scary it's made me not like climbing anymore. All they offer are some giant, dirty kettlebells for you to lug around with you, but that only (kind of) stops you from launching in the air. It doesn't prevent the extreme amount of friction you have to fight through the Grigri. I've never even had this much of a problem lead climbing, because we can use an ohm, which you can't use top roping because it pins the rope to the wall which is unsafe for the climber. When I brought up this concern to someone who works there they shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal, and said "oh well it's better because lowering is faster this way" uh... okay, but it's not better if i'm literally fighting for my life simply to lower my partner and not kill them or be launched into the air?? but yeah, lowering faster is nice, sure. I want so badly to like this gym, but the complete lack of regard for safety is mind-boggling. The biggest shame is that it's the only gym of it's type in the area so it's either climb here unsafely, or don't climb at all. Shame on Movement Corporate for not doing more to regulate the safety at their gyms.

I've only bouldered here so I can't comment much about top rope/lead…read more Staff are very friendly - asking membership questions, lost and found, intro climbing lessons etc have all been positive experiences for me. Climbers also tend to be friendly as well; people are usually more than happy to chat about beta and provide tips when asked. Routesetting is decent. Lots of fun, interesting problems at higher grades. The slab area upstairs is small but usually has some really enjoyable climbs. However, climbs below V2 are almost all ladders, and the routesetters' ideas for "spicy" low grade climbs tend to be worse handholds/steeper inclines rather than provide interesting challenges for newer climbers. Every now and then you come across a climb where the crux seems to be "try not to accidentally use this massive handhold from a different climb located in the most inconvenient spot possible." But overall, I'd say the routesetting is a positive. Now for the main reason that this review is only 2 stars: safety. Or rather, a complete lack of it. People sit/stand directly in front of the wall all the time, even when they're not about to climb anything. Most are happy to move when you ask, but you will get the occasional dirty look. Coaches and off-duty routesetters are often the worst offenders here. Chalk bags, climbing shoes, and phones frequently litter the ground directly underneath the wall. People walk directly underneath climbers in the bouldering area *all the time*, and even when other people are watching usually no one says anything. In over a year of climbing here, I have yet to see a single instance of an employee enforcing a safety rule in the bouldering area. Occasionally, there are horrifically dangerous climbs that almost make me think one of the routesetters has a side deal with a personal injury attorney (see attached photo). tl; dr: Lots of fun climbs, but when it comes to safety you're on your own.
