Wow! So, my wife and I used to come here a lot before the renovations and change in ownership. The first time we went after the changes, we were not impressed at all. The second time we went, almost a year ago, was better, but the improvements were not enough to make us excited to go back, especially when it takes us about 30 minutes to get there. Last weekend we decided to give it another try and I'm glad we did. I had one of the juiciest and best tasting steaks I've ever had. The service was fantastic! I've been excited to eat here for over a year, as so many people told me how great this place was. Tonight the husband finally took me on a date here and I was beyond disappointed! If you like a restaurant with a loud bar vibe, overpriced, underwhelming food, this is the place for you! The food had the promise of being good. Made right exactly the way we wanted, a good price but the waitress gave it to us cold. There's nothing like cold, french fries or a cold hamburger that's medium rare. When we came in, there was nobody in the place and even though it filled up quick, we apparently got our food last. Was a little anxious when we first arrived last night, we saw they were hosting a wedding reception outside, and they were pretty busy inside too. But all of the food was delicious. The owner was very friendly and shared the history of the place being a former gas station and run by his father and now him. Page the waitress was "on it" and very friendly too. The steak dinner comes with salad, soup, side of Tatar, your choice, AND a slice of cheesecake. I got the ribeye, medium rare with hand cut fries. Oh my gosh. DELISH. The steak was charred perfectly and juicy! The fries were phenomenal. Seriously. Our server , Callie, was darling and our table was visited by the manager and another server. I rarely write reviews. But this place deserved it. We got there at 5 PM and were there until 7:30, waiting over 1/2 hour for our check. The chicken sandwich I had was no more than 3 Kroger chicken sticks on a hamburger bun. No lettuce and tomato as advertised, no mayo, no nothing. It was cold. The "hand cut fries" were cold and soggy. I had to ask for ketchup 3 times. And for that I paid $18.00. I should have gone to Wendy's, and next time I will. Never again!!! read more

If there were a wall in Newport, this would be the delightful hole in it! Recommended to us by our hairdresser in Knoxville, but is a Newport native, we had it on the list of places to try and one night on a lark, drove out to this little gem! From the street, it is nothing fancy. Actually, inside isn't fancy, either. But the food is spectacularly executed and the service is warm, friendly and almost like coming home. The special was 3$ off any filet so I went with the 6 oz filet, medium and it was seasoned with something out of God's own pantry--truly heavenly! My husband chose the ribeye, it was perfectly seasoned, nicely marbled and smothered with grilled onions. I started with a shrimp cocktail and the sauce had some kick, but extra prepared horseradish took it up a notch and was excellent! Our dinners came with soup AND salad, I had French onion, my husband a ham and corn chowder. Fresh, off the cob corn with sweet ham in a delightful broth. French onion was great with a lovely beef broth base and a very creamy cheese melted on top. Our salads were perfect size for a starter. My husband chose honey mustard and I went with the house made ranch. It was spectacular, a nice blend of ranch seasoning, garlic and creamy goodness. My only negative is that the condiments come in plastic packaging. I hate plastic waste and to have sour cream in a small plastic sleeve and dressings in plastic cups with lids seems wasteful. I'd like to see them either scooped or in reusable metal containers. Wait staff, owner and guests all had smiles on their faces ... truly a place it seems like you could come and hang out and just enjoy the evening with friends you met that night. We gave this place three tries since they had good reviews but each time the steak, or fillet's were just so so. We get much much better fillet's at the local Food City and cook them ourselves. (OK, I don't, my wife does) After 20 or so times, so far the worst one we had at home was still better than the best one at the grease rack. I give 2 stars since they are still better than McDonalds. read more

My first visit was a Saturday afternoon when a bluegrass band was playing. I'll give it 4 stars +, the Big Mike porterhouse is huge, and when I got home I weighed my doggy bag carryout, still had 15 oz left, one side was just a wee bit tough,but good, and cooked just like I ordered, but the other side was melt in your mouth tender. That happens at any steakhouse. The only thing that I didn't care for was the onion rings, IMO Louis in Knoxville has the best onion rings in East Tennessee, I will be going back,but this coming weekend I've got Coal Creek Barbecue Smokehouse on my GPS. read more

We were camping in the Newport area and saw this place with good reviews. We like to try Mom and Pop restaurants when camping and this fit the bill. Honestly when we drove up o was hesitant about going in (thought it might be a bar not a real restaurant) but decided to give it a try- plus saw some locals going in that weren't bar types. So glad we did. My husband had fried shrimp and crab cakes- homemade and not from frozen. They were amazing. Even the fries were hand cut. I had a Doby burger and it was great and perfectly prepared. I cut it in pieces to fit in my mouth, it was so big! The restaurant is the very definition of Mom and Pop, and the prices are good. Nice waitress, the place was clean. I suggest giving them a try if you're in the neighborhood- Definitely worth the stop. read more
