This place can be hit or miss - like most places it depends on who you get. Ashley or Amanda (the name escapes me now) was my go to for years but she has since left so I switched over to Serena. Believe she's out on leave for a little while so I took a chance with someone new today and it was a miss day. Asked for two inches off and only got about a half inch, top is still long though the whole time I was trying to hint that I like it short. Was the second person in (had an appointment) and felt rushed, especially since the other guy was still getting his done. For the price today's cut wasn't worth the money. We love American Barber! I have two picky boys that love going to get haircuts from David or Amy. They both provide great haircuts and are artistic in their craft. I especially love that I can make an appointment the day of using their website. Beware weekends are very busy but at least you wait at home and they will text you when it's your turn to come in. What you get depends on who you get. Ironically, even though it's called "The great American Barber Shop," most of the staff don't have a barbering license. Which means there are certain barber services they can't perform, line neckline shaves. I found a great barber at the Clovis location. I went to him for a while. When he left, I tried a few other staff. Unfortunately, most of the time you end up with a Supercuts quality cut, at 2-3x the cost. read more

Well, I'm outside the shop day two of trying to get a haircut at this location. It's mother's day today, but unfortunately there was no notice by this Fowler branch on socials or their website that they'd be closed today. So I've driven out here for nothing. Yesterday I also drove out here at 9am, which on their front door is says they open at 9am on Saturday and Sunday and online all signs point to a 9am open time. I waited 20 minutes, nothing. I check inside the dark building. Oh a chalk sign that says they actually open at 10am. Well fudge, I had to be at lunch for my mother's day at 11:30 and I and the wife have a baby to have to get situated which is time consuming. So two times driving out to this location and having it be closed when there is no indication it should have been closed. Super unfortunate, and messaged them from Facebook and put on read. Oof. I guess this location gets a one star review. Better to hit the one on Herndon and 168 where I've never had a problem with them. They've always given me great cuts. read more

The check-in system is useless if you're waiting 20 minutes after checking-in, no one else waiting, the one of the barbers friends pops in and gets ahead of you. Respect our time... and pull up your pants, no one wants to see your dirty underwear hanging out :) Consider me a former client. Update: I'm positive about the wait list, the app and the screen in the shop are pretty clear about the order and who has checked in as "here". Also (I believe his name was Bobby) never looked at the list, he saw the guy and said "you're up" and only went over the counter to look at the list afterwards. This is our new place for my two adult sons and myself. Friendly barbers. Isaiah is my go to guy. I have been to others and they have all done a great job! I appreciate the way Isaiah listened to what I wanted the first time he cut my hair and rememberers it every time. This old guy , me, doesn't want to look my age and I asked him to cut it so "I don't look my age!" He does exactly that every time. Disappointed all around. Check in system flawed. I had read several reviews stating that their check in system was not very efficient and unfortunately I have agree with those reviews. Got a haircut and none of the extra and still charged same price. Should definitely have just a regular cut no-frills on the option board. Nothing is worse than having to wait 30 min for a hair cut. Service was quick, good value and the cut I received was very good. Customer service is okay. The lady who greeted was nice, but the younger guy barber, I would not recommend to go to. We asked him to shave the side burns after we paid and noticed he didn't shave where the mask was. He considered this as a beard even though my husband had no beard or mustache, so he wouldn't shave the side burns for my husband. Had to go home looking like this and do it himself. So, I've been a customer since the business first opened at this location. I've taken my son here and we've had haircuts from any available barber. We've each had some good and a couple not so good haircuts, but never a really bad one, until tonight. My son got a cut from Aimee L. and she asked what I wanted. I showed her how to cut the hair, 1 on sides, clean up the top and a hard part. I even showed her how high, mid-temple for the cut. She proceeded to cut the hair and immediately went to high, but it wasn't bad, yet. I stopped her and she said she wasn't done, then continued to cut the sides, coming up on top of the scalp. I immediately let her know that she went to high. It was at this point, she went off on me giving me her managers name nd I could complaining to him. All because I spoke up and gave her feedback. She started yelling at me and arguing, then with my 10 year old son still on the chair, she started to take her anger out on my son, telling me he needs to learn how to sit up straight. I told her to stop and she was being very unprofessional. She continued to yell at me, with my son still in the chair that she would give me half-off. As I'm at the register, she continued with her attitude and my son was embarrased with his haircut, he bagan to cry. She stopped for a moment and said nothing. She charged me $22.50 for a $25 haircut. I thought she was going to give me half-off but she lied. She immediately got on the phone and called her manager, David, spinning the narrative of what happened. She then pushed the phone into my face and I backed up. She then told the manager I was playing games. She called from another phone and handed it to me this time. David intoduced himself and I started to tell him what happened. He would let me talk until I gave him a name, so I told him Mr. Garcia, he proceeded to tell me I wasn't his parent and wanted my full name. Then he proceeded to tell me my 10 year old should know by now how to sit in the chair...I couldn't believe this guy was worse than the barber. He wasn't willing to listen to me, so I got frustrated and hung up the phone. I paid the $22.50 and left. This was completely the worst service I've had there. Took my son to get a haircut because he has soccer pictures tomorrow. The person that cut his hair did take his time and tried to focus on detail, however he "boxed" out his edges. Another person tried to help correct it and it did make it a little better, but the lines were still there. Paid for the haircut and tipped both barbers. The manager then came over and was very rude. He said, "we can't put the hair back on" and asked if I asked for it to be boxed out. I said no. He said oh ok. We turned around and left. Gave them a try , and I ended up NOT liking their service my son was in that chair getting a "haircut" for less than 10 Min!! I have 4 boys and a husband that use the services of The GAB. The quality of the haircuts keep me coming back. The establishment is large and always clean. The online check in wait list and check in service I've learned how to use correctly so it doesn't irritate me. They consistently have candy suckers for kids (or whoever) which my boys remember and count on after their haircuts. The bathroom is also large and usually clean. I typically bring my kids in and about half of the barber's at Fowler/ Ashlan are friendly with kids and chat with them, ask them what grade they're in, about stuff they like and etc., and that feels like great customer service and makes my kids like coming even more. But the other barbers there, show no interest and do not talk to the kids at all and that feels odd to me. Today I even felt like us coming in ruined their day... and my boys are not rambunctious or unkind at all. If anything, they are a little shy or nervous. It's okay not to talk to an adult, or a really off-putting kid, but in my experience when friendly kids come in or even shy ones, it would be kind to talk to them and then thank them for coming in. So for that factor, I rate them a 4 versus a 5 for customer service inconsistency. read more

This location is horrible. My husband has came here a couple times, the only reason we kept coming back is because of the location & the haircuts come out nice. ...my complaint is that there is no structure on how things are done. I've waited for an hour & a half Just for my husband to get in the chair. & this is even after we received the notification to come in. & mind you the times we've been there it's not busy. Theirs usually only 1 person before us. Yet it takes that long before some starts working on a client. & a other concern is there has been a few times when we'll call the store with PLENTY of time before their store is actually scheduled to close (according to the website) & we've been told they weren't taking anymore clients because they are closing early, & not one of those days were holidays, were it would be understandable. Or they are closing because they already worked a lot of hours that day. Just the fact this has happened MORE THAN ONCE is insane. & sometimes we don't even get an explanation just attitude that they are closing. Yes the haircut comes out nice but keep in mind that's not saying much when my husband doesn't even get complicated haircuts. We are now going to drive further out to a different location to see if it's like this only here on fowler/ ashlan. Hopefully the other location is more structured. read more
