I've been going here for a few months, up until last Saturday. I received a phone call that my grandpa had passed away, and I had to fly home to Texas. I cancelled my appointment for Saturday morning (late). I wanted to make an appointment for the Saturday after my return and the barber wanted to charge me a $10 fee for the late cancelation. Even after explaining the circumstances to my barber, he still insisted it was just a policy and nothing personal. I always tip between $5-7, because I believe in paying a fair price for honest and skilled work, but I will never pay them another cent. Pros of this shop: very very nice haircuts! Fairly priced. Cons: they give off a feeling of welcoming and community, but they care more about money than people. read more

I've been going to Issac for years and is an old friend but today he gave me the pre wedding treatment and gave me a whole 2 hour service with a straight razor & hot towel shave. He even exfoliated and did an acne mask for my face. The hair cut was okay nothing special, just like to go out and help the community out by supporting their business. When it went up to $20 I was like Damm that alot for a 15 to 25 minutes hair cut. Came back couple months later assuming that $20 is already alot and thought that the price were at $20 so when my hair was done it was $25 ..wow (if I knew that it jumped to 25 I would of book it with Kongo). the last time I was at this place was about a month ago, came in didn't ask for the price and got my hair done though it was $25 and POW! $30! The guys at Tower 59 are the epitome of what a neighborhood barber shop should be. They are talented and knowledgeable in their profession and are more than happy to give suggestions as to what style of cut would work best for you. They have a great atmosphere and try very hard to make it an inviting experience for their customers. I myself have been coming to them since before they opened and I have always been happy with my cut. In some cases Steve has had me come back to the chair to fix a spot here or there even when it looked great. He is that meticulous. My six year old son also comes here and loves how they treat him just like "Daddy". They always ask HIM how he wants his hair cut. I do know that my family and I will continue to come to Tower 59. I've been looking for a place that was a little easier on the wallet after my usual salon upped their prices. I really wanted to find a barber, but sadly many male barbers are iffy about cutting women's hair, even if I just wanted an undercut little side-swept thing. Thankfully, Marcus came to the rescue. Marcus listened to my desires, alternating what he did as he really listened to what my envisioned goal was. One day I was feeling down, then days turned to weeks. I was battling depression, and I felt as if I had nothing going for me in life. That all changed the day Gerardo (aka el jefe; aka bless) came and started working at this barbershop. It was like all my life questions had been answered. I booked an appointment on his Instagram and came in at my allocated time, right when I got there he was finishing up his previous client and boom it was my turn, talk about PUNCTUAL! I sat down and Gerardo was able to make me forget about all my problems as he kept me entertained with his countless story's. He sure knows how to keep a conversation going! When my cut was over, I looked at myself in the mirror and I felt like a new man. I felt as if I can conquer the world and take what's mine. As I walked outside, women from the neighboring boba place stopped me in my track before I got to my car and they asked me where I was headed. He was red and blotchy all over the back of his neck from the uneven taper and you could clearly see where the barber cut the hair, it looked like big lines on the back of his head. The barber also kept talking to other customers, barbers, and was constantly on the phone. What should've been a 20-30min haircut turned longer.
