Escape rooms are very popular and Providence has at least two of them. This one is on S Main Street, next to Geoff's sandwich shop. Easy parking options around. Escape RI is really an adventure for those who take part of it.... The staff sends you into a themed, immersive game space filled with puzzles, and you have to solve them all in order to "escape" within the hour. Now after the pandemic, all games are private, so you only go in with people you know. The are several room and several types of experiences! While you play, the venue is being constantly monitored by a trained Game Operator, and an emergency exit is always available in case of discomfort or actual emergency. You are never locked in a room. The lights may get dim at some points, but there's no (intentionally) spooky music or sounds, no frightening pictures, and certainly no one is going to jump out at you. All surfaces are sanitized regularly by the staff. The base price to rent one of the rooms is $79 which includes two admission tickets, which is also the minimum number of players needed to play our games. Each additional ticket is an additional $29 per person. Each room has individual capacity limits. The smallest game room can hold up to 4 players, two of the game rooms can hold up to 6 players each, and the largest game can hold up to 10. Our group needed some help in some of the rooms with the puzzles and clues, so you can ask for help and the operator will help you with hints. At the end of the game, we did not Escape, but it was a fun experience about teamwork, leadership, puzzle solving, and much more.... LOL... read more

I am more of a fan with escape rooms that have multiple rooms in one game but this room delivered with full interactive content. We had 2 players and we were able to get out in under 60 minutes. In my "teams" opinion, Escape Rhode Island is in the top three of best escape rooms in the state (along with Lock & Clue and RI Riddle Room). We've done a lot of escape rooms all over New England and beyond, so take my word for it... Escape Rhode Island is not to be missed. The themes for the rooms are clever, and they do a good job with working in unique puzzles that mesh with the story line well. The design of the rooms are also incredible with a lot of sophisticated mechanics that work glitch-free; not always an easy feat! Staff is great and well-engaged; the fact that their HQ is basically in the waiting room (separated by a curtain) is a little giggle-worthy, but hey, you do you, folks. If you're bopping around Providence with some friends (or solo - you can easily join strangers in a room) and want something different and fun to do, stop by Escape Rhode Island. This is the second escape room I've done, and I must say I preferred this one to the previous place we tried. I thought in general the staff was friendlier, and the escape room themes sound more interesting. They also had fun props you could use for your group picture if you succeed at escaping (which we did!). We did the Andromeda Station room, which was really cool! We were able to add on a 7th person to our group (normally the limit is 6), and they just charged us for the 7th person when we arrived. I miss them! I miss all the rooms! We did the speakeasy and even though the props looked very homemade, we enjoyed the puzzles. The mausoleum was hard and one of the only rooms we haven't gotten out of! My only feedback is that twice something in the room has been broken and one time we came out of the room and no one was around! Apparently she was in the other room helping them, it's a good thing I thought to check our time because if not we would have never known. Needs updating but def enjoyed! read more

When I was visiting back home this September, my boyfriend and I were looking for something fun so he could meet and get to know a bunch of my friends from high school. One of them suggested we head to an escape room, and I was so excited because I LOVE escape rooms. But I was also cautious because new friends in a confined space could be a disaster. Escape Rhode Island is nestled in some pretty cramped quarters, but there are a lot of great room options. We picked The Mausoleum, and got the breakdown of how things were going to go from Andy. Super fun and personable, and he was so excited to get us in there and start solving. While I can't give away any solving secrets, we made it out in the nick of time, and Andy was right outside giving out plenty of high fives. (haha, we were all very proud of ourselves) We even stuck around a little bit afterwards and he walked us through how some of the puzzles work. Made me want to go home and build an escape room for myself. :) In the end, we had a really great time at Escape Rhode Island, and my boyfriend and friends got along great during our solving adventure. I came to escape Rhode Island with 3 others as we decided to do The Mausoleum room. We actually showed up early and someone who worked there told us since we were early we could do a trivia question in order to get $5 off an item from their shop. We opted to do a trivia question but didn't end up getting it right. We waited around for about 10 minutes more until we met our game master. This is my 3rd escape room I've done so I had an idea of what to expect/what the rules were. The different thing for this escape room is that they give clues as they see fit and they are unlimited. We did end up escaping! We even had 8 minutes to spare. I think it had about a 23% chance of escaping so I was pretty excited that we did. I wish there more of a back story or more compelling story with the room, but that's just my personal preference. I still had a great time and would recommend it to others! read more

Went to Escape Rhode Island as a team building exercise. Venue has 4 rooms with various puzzles to solve to "escape". They give you one hour. (Technically the room is not locked, it's just part of the game) We were in the Andromeda room. Some of the puzzles were clever, some very frustrating. We did not make it out. When they came in to help us solve the rest of the puzzles, some were so complicated I'm not sure how ppl have figured them out - but they have. Good team building exercise, but truthfully I found it to be kind of stressful. If you love a challenge, this may be for you. Good luck! read more

ESCAPETHEROOMers visited Escape Rhode Island in Providence, RI back in February 2019. This location is situated right near a beautiful lake. There's tons of street parking available right in front of the building. They are located on the second floor and there is an elevator available. Unfortunately, it has not been fixed in awhile. Once you enter, there is a small waiting area w/ a couch and a leaderboard for all 4 rooms that they currently offer. The room that they recommended we try today is "The Mausoleum". We were fortunate enough to meet w/ one of the managers & developers of the room to learn more about the company. What's interesting about "The Mausoleum" is that part of your objective is to find a way into the room (the mausoleum). The decor of the "The Mausoleum" definitely set the tone for an eerie storyline. The puzzle design was creative and stuck w/ the theme throughout the game. The one thing that we felt prohibited us from fully enjoying the game was their decision to provide players w/ one crank flashlight. We understand that they are sticking to the theme, but it's extremely time-consuming and difficult to operate puzzles and crank at the same time. Unless one person is volunteers or is assigned to be the designated flashlight cranker. Other than that, the customer service was excellent and the staff was extremely hospitable! What a great time!! We have become pretty big escape room enthusiasts and therefore are pretty critical. We did one room here when they first opened and had a great time. We returned last weekend to do The Mausoleum. It was a blast!! The puzzles were very well thought out, pretty difficult and the ambiance was a lot of fun. Theming is super important to me and they do it right here!! Andy was our Escape Master and really made the experience that much more enjoyable. His enthusiasm and wit were perfect for when we needed a hint to make it to the next section. He was kind and personable and never made us feel stupid, which I think is pretty important. When I write reviews for escape rooms, I base them on my experience in the escape room world. At the time of writing this I have done 169 rooms. I attempted my first escape room at Escape Rhode Island. It was The Study. Later on, I did The Gallery and Ex Machina. Unfortunately, these rooms have all been rotated out, so there is no point in recommending any of these rooms to you. That being said, I can relate my general experiences to you. On all of my visits, the staff was wonderful. I remember being intimidated doing my first room, and the staff explained everything in detail, and made sure we understood everything before we entered. The rooms are always fun. I've been impressed with what I've seen in each room, and as the venue grows, they definitely advance their technology and puzzles. I would be careful bringing first timers here. As someone who had no escape room experience at the time, I found all 3 rooms extremely difficult. Highly recommended for enthusiasts, cautiously recommended for newcomers. Not recommended for children. read more

My friends and I visited Escape Rhode Island this weekend and played "The Mausoleum." I was a little worried when I chose this game that members of our party might be frightened - the whole concept sounds a little scary - but no worries. The game itself is not scary and no one felt creeped out. I highly recommend The Mausoleum! (It's also important to note that you are never actually locked into a room, so if that idea made anyone nervous, don't let that stop you! You're totally safe.) We had an amazing experience and say that anyone looking to try an escape room should check this place out! I've done two other escape rooms in other cities and I think that this one was by far the best puzzle - not too simple by any means, but not so insanely difficult that I felt only a band of geniuses could reasonably figure it out within the time limit. All of the components of the puzzle were really different and our team really had to rely on some creative thinking which made it so much more fun and interesting. You can tell that a lot of care and enthusiasm was put into the creation of this game. The attention to detail was really great and all the staff we met were very friendly. So when my boyfriend said he wanted to do an escape room yesterday, I knew this was the place to go. We were hoping to have the Speakeasy to ourselves, but another couple (who were actually on a first date) showed up. Escape Rhode Island provides a well-constructed and well-facilitated traditional escape room experience with clever puzzles and impressive use of electronic mechanisms. The rooms here go beyond opening locks and finding keys and really take the concept of a 'puzzle' to the next level. For context, I have done two rooms at this location (Ex Machina and the Mausoleum--Ex Machina, in my opinion, being the more difficult room), the former as a chaperone to a high school field trip and the latter as an outing with friends. Here are some key aspects on what makes Escape Rhode Island stand out. 1. Use of Mechanisms It is clear these rooms were designed by someone who has a background in engineering. Beyond the more traditional puzzles in these rooms are ones that really force you to think outside of what you think is feasible. Each time I have come here, I am always impressed on how these mechanisms are included in the work. There are many moments in a room leaving me saying "How did they do this?" or "That was awesome!" 2. Use of all the senses Puzzles are generally thought of as being a visual activity, but Escape Rhode Island takes these puzzles a step further. From puzzles that require the use of sound, to puzzles that require physical dexterity and touch, and even a puzzle that required the sense of smell--I was very pleased to see how the puzzles took a variety of forms and, as a consequence, really allowed for the unique talents of our group members to shine. 3. Required Teamwork Escape rooms are a group activity and therefore shouldn't be designed such that only one person can solve it on their own. Escape Rhode Island has several puzzles that require at least two people to complete successfully. This ensures that everyone can have a role in the room. The puzzles are also nonlinear which means you can delegate tasks and keep everyone busy. Some escape rooms are very linear, and having more people in them is a hindrance more than an asset, but not at Escape Rhode Island. 4. Fantastic Room Operators Most escape rooms give you a limit on clues, don't provide clues at all or, frighteningly enough, charge extra money for clues--but Escape Rhode Island instead gives clues in a scaffolded manner. Through the use of a screen in the rooms (which also displays the time) the room operators who are watching and listening to your progress will give clues when necessary. This has been particularly useful when our group knew what to do with a mechanism, but may have been using it incorrectly or if we weren't using a combination lock effectively. This allows you to focus more on solving the puzzles rather than figuring out what hints you'll ask for. There is one other comment I have about the rooms at Escape Rhode Island, but it does not in any way detract from the experience. I have noticed there are two major types of escape rooms, ones that focus on the puzzles (where you'll see lots of padlocks and combo locks around the room with puzzles out in the open) and others that focus on the room's narrative and setting (every puzzle or lock has some sort of direct relevance to the room's story). Escape Rhode Island falls into the first category--and while the rooms are well themed and have a back story, they focus more on puzzle solving rather than immersion in the story (locations such as Lock and Clue escape rooms are more narrative/story based). That being said, they do a great job of making the puzzles fit the room's theme. Finally, the staff at Escape Rhode Island are enthusiastic, friendly, and professional. I had great experiences with the staff both when chaperoning a field trip with a bunch of excited high school students and also when going with a group of friends. They were excited to talk about the puzzles and debrief the room experience. As someone who loves escapes rooms and has visited several around the area, I highly recommend Escape Rhode Island. You'll have a unique puzzle solving experience there facilitated by a wonderful staff. read more

I've been to Escape Rhode Island twice now, and it's always super fun. I've played The Mausoleum and The Study rooms so far. The Study is a great starter room, and my group cleared it at around 57-58 minutes. We didn't clear The Mausoleum in time, but because we were the last group of the evening, our operator let us finish the puzzle since we were moments from completion. The rooms are very well done. Creative, a little spooky, and they really get you thinking and using those teamwork skills. There are monitors in the rooms where operators can give clues if you seem stuck, but you're never obligated to read them. All the rooms also have creative backstories to set up why you're there, what you're looking for, and why you need to get out. This is a great option for a birthday activity, bachelorette/bachelor party, date, company outing, or virtually any other reason you may have to gather up with others! read more

I won a raffle and entry ticket to "Escape". I haven't quite figured out if the discreet entrance that I couldn't find was intentionally done that way or just the indicator of how the rest of my night would go. I was about 7 minutes late and the group for the next "Escape" was already waiting. I e-signed the waiver and encountered an employee who escorted me to my "Escape" room. Because I missed the initial rules, she quickly ran through them with me which was helpful. I then walked into a room, the study, and began to help my group with whatever clues they were chasing. Overall, it was a really fun hour! I'm sure my groups dynamic was a bit different than most since we were all strangers but it was still fun nonetheless. I feel this is one of those opportunities where you use your left brain and your right brain. We were doing our best to work quickly, changing responsibilities now and then as well as communicating along the way. It was hard! And we did not succeed...but we were so close. I will absolutely return to this place and try the other room(s). I am also thinking of what a great team building opportunity this would be for colleagues. read more

This was really really fun! Full of number puzzles, secret messages, shouting orders, and great team building. It's hard to give a full review without giving away any spoilers, so I'll remain very generic. Your experience will depend on the type of room(s) you selected, with its recommended number of players. Keep in mind, when you book a room (which I strongly suggest reserving a few weeks in advance), you have to pay upfront and then create your team and guilt-trip your friends into paying you later. The gaming environment was truly well made and thought out. You may not be confined to just one room (wink) and you should delegate your teammates. I do like that while you and your friends are solving the puzzles, your actions are being "watched" by the DM's and they will occasionally drop secret hints on the TV screen when you get stuck. I like the dynamic system, and even though we decided to "stay" in the room by the end of the hour, I'd consider returning again when they recycle their puzzles. The cost varies, but the large room is $26 pp, so keep your eyes peeled for any holiday deals! read more

The puzzles are not easy but you do get a sense of satisfaction when you figure one of them out. Did this with a few other yelpers and even though we didn't know each other we still had a great time. We were greeted by Andy, who went through the instructions in an entertaining and humorous way. We were a little worried about escaping the room because there were only five of us. The Bunker was an exciting room right from the start! If you plan to do this room, make sure to have at least five people and be ready to do the puzzles FAST because there are a ton of them! We came so close to escaping!!! I had read about this place before it opened and it seemed cool so when I saw Yelp was raffling off free chances to experience it I threw my hat into the ring. Luckily I won and I had an absolute blast. We were supposed to be a group of 6 but only 4 of us showed up, we were still able to get through the puzzles but it's more manageable with more people. This would be a great team building event or a night out with friends but even if you don't have a full group they will pair you with others to make a team. . . we were a group of strangers and we worked together great! This was my first time trying anything like this so I felt a bit confused and unsure what to do when we first got in the room but once we found and solved our first puzzle it all started to flow more easily. You don't need to be great at puzzles to figure this out, in fact some things were easier when we didn't over think them. . . those "duh" moments were also pretty funny. I can't wait to go back with a bigger group to try The Gallery or to try the smaller room again when they change it out. Do not fear, if you need to leave the room for whatever reason there is one door that is always open so you are not 'locked in for good'. If you are looking for a great team building experience, a fun night out with friends, or just something different to do, this is the place. You do not need to have a large group to go as anyone can sign up. You also don't need to be a great problem solver as it is just a fun experience and everyone works together. You get a fun picture at the end and they welcomed us to come back to try the other scenarios. They do change at least one of them every few months so this is a place you can frequent. read more

I came here with a group of nine and we did "the bunker". However they change the games out every 6 months. We had a fun time except towards the end of our game, there was a faulty puzzle. We spent maybe 15 minutes trying to attempt it (with the correct answer). An employee came out to try it with us and was also having a hard time getting it to work. He basically blamed our counting skills when it turns out he attempted the puzzle multiples times to try to get it to work. This left a bit of a sour taste in some members of our group. We ended up escaping so personally I didn't find an issue with it. It was more so the person condescending tone. I felt they could have just said the puzzle is temperamental instead of blaming us. With that being said I only deducted one star. We still had a great time and it was a nice way to spend an hour. There were also a variety of puzzles which was nice!
