I love the facility. I've been a member for about 5 years. But the swim team, I cannot understand! My kid attended the July try out. It's the end of August and I'm still waiting on an answer. Some kids have gotten an answer and have paid their dues to be on the swim team already. Why wasn't everyone given an Answer the same day? Makes me feel like there's some type of favoritism going on especially since my kid did very well for last years try out and didn't make the team. If you are a senior do not go this YMCA. If you have Medicare you can go to any other YMCA in the area through your insurance. I went there to take a water class today. After the class they told me I can longer come here unless I have a paid membership. I have national wide coverage but this YMCA refuses to honor that. I just wanted to take just one class and they said I have to pay full membership. They could still get paid if they went through the insurance. But they rather take money directly from member not understanding seniors are on low income budget. This was very disheartening because I really loved the class. It's the best of Y's, and it's the worst of Y's The Great Stuff The customer-facing staff is amazing. They are probably the only reason many people stay. The facilities are top-notch. Everything is clean, well-maintained, and updated. The courses are great, and the teaching staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The Not-So-Great Stuff One other reviewer already mentioned the mystery busses that show up every so often and randomly disgorge mobs of teenage boys at the front door (who in turn fill the fitness room beyond capacity). I once submitted a proposal that the members simply be alerted the day before this happens so that they can plan; I never received an acknowledgement. The facility hosts swim meets, and when that happens you can forget about finding a place to park. I have no idea why they don't direct swim meet vehicles to park in one of the nearby YMCA lots for the day. If you do show up on a swim meet day, be prepared to make a slow Odyssean drive through the various areas of the parking lot before realizing that you won't be working out that day. I don't like that they charge extra for some classes. This place isn't cheap -- you can look up the membership prices on the website. It strikes me as a little mean to charge retirees who just want to learn how to play pickleball an extra $100. read more

Clean facility. 3/5 of the stair masters are available for use. There's normally a crowd of people early Saturday mornings so be aware and prepared. I was a member here years ago, and recently my wife joined, hoping it had gotten better. Dear reader, they have not. As someone else noted, READ THE OTHER REVIEWS - this place has no interest in changing. The "hidden" reviews here also seem quite accurate, FWIW. Once you are signed up, getting any information out of the staff is next to impossible - you're literally completely on your own. In both of our experiences, we'd signed up with the goal of using some very specific advertised amenities only to find that "oops, that class is not offered anymore" or "oh, we don't have that equipment". Scheduling is a nightmare, it seems like they are constantly changing class schedules, dropping classes, etc. They don't bother updating the online schedules, so you show up and only then find out that there is no class. If you dare call the front desk to verify, be prepared for some serious attitude from whoever answers the phone. The place is basically totally unsupervised. You'll often find people with multiple kids running around unattended, touching all the equipment, sticking their fingers between stuff on the machines that could chop their fingers off so as a bonus during your workout you get to babysit other people's kids. The front desk will not lift a finger to resolve these situations. The pool is a madhouse. Covid protocols are a total joke. Why an org that talks so much about "social responsibility" on their website and partners with the local hospital doesn't require all visitors to this indoor facility show proof of vaccination is beyond me (I'm typing this as Delta is peaking, and vaccines are free for all FWIW). I've sent similar concerns to their published "info" box but they didn't even bother replying. This business brings in over $10M/year. As a manager/supervisor or a person in customer relations you would think this individual would have taken a class or two on how to speak to or address a question/inquiry/concern of a potential consumer. However, telling a potential client (that actually said they just moved into the area, is willing to pay for the family membership, but wanted clarification on the provisions for a membership for my elderly mother, after being referred to her by a neighbor that received help from her when she moved to the neighborhood), to "Go To Randolph, because they may be better suited for Me And My Family" was such a questionable and demeaning thing to say. Word phrasing has a lot to do with the way a message is received and the tone of a written message. I found this woman CONNIE Very UNPROFESSIONAL, after being unreachable and then dismissive. This is NOT the way to attract members, especially when they are coming from excellent facilities like the one I left in Sussex County (BEST YMCA EVER)!!!! I recently joined this gym. My first impression was aligned with the negative comments, as i did my intro tour late in the day i got a bad vibe on the staff not being friendly. That said after talking to 5-6 staff members i feel they are getting a bad rep here. Perhaps they are not super friendly and trying to sell stuff like at the Globo gyms but it's a great place. The equipment, pool, hot tub, amenities, classes are aligned with much more expensive gyms. I would recommend especially if you like aquatics, basketball, kids programs etc. read more

Camp starts on June 24, 2024, I only put down half the money and they are telling me that they will not refund my $1,566 (which is a lot of money). This gym is a decent option at a reasonable price point, but far from ideal. I am grateful to no longer be a member. As other reviewers have noted, the staff members at this YMCA seem miserable. The hours at this facility are already limited compared to many other gyms in the area, but I felt "stared down" as I continued working out until the closing time. As a long time paying member, there is no reason to feel guilty for using the amenities until close! What turned me off for good was this YMCA's response to COVID-19. Beautiful, massive pool is the main draw for me. There are two other gyms nearby with a pool (The Club and Gold's) and only the one at Gold's can compare to this. If you are the wake up before work and do some laps kind of swimmer (or your kids are already taking lessons or on a team that practices here) this is your only option. The fitness floor is cramped and the equipment, though well maintained, shows a lot of wear and tear. Memberships are priced like a luxury gym, and other than the lack of towel service it ticks all the luxury gym boxes - pool, hot tub, classes, sauna, steam room. Parking is definitely an issue. Between swim lessons/teams, child programs, and regular gym members there are not enough spaces to go around. Weekend hours are limited. Worth it if you can take advantage of the all the amenities. read more

I am a member here with my wife and two children. They pay little attention to rectifying dirty locker rooms. There are times when the tile floors in locker rooms have nasty hair all over them. When you tell the employees they say "describe the issue on a comment card." This place is very unhygienic, stay away. PLEASE LOWER THE CHLORINE LEVEL IN THE POOL! I'm not sure if it's part of their COVID Theater or what, but I end up smelling like chlorine for days after swimming. Also, the whole swimming process is a headache because of COVID. Good swim classes but VERY poor management. Sign up process is disorganized, unfair and chaotic. It's like getting tickets to a concert in the 90s. Waiting in the cold for an 2hrs before registration starts, then suddenly it opens 30min early, to the dismay of those "new parents" who don't know the chaotic "system". Only to learn that if your child graduated from one class to the next that "sorry we don't have space AND we gave his spot away in his old class". Thats like graduating 1st grade and not having space in 2nd... Moral of the story? Go to a different YMCA if you can. Madison has it online and easy. Treated their members absolutely terribly during the pandemic. They started out fine saying they would freeze memberships. Then they basically stole members' money by completely going back on this. While other gyms were going to great lengths to move equipment outside under tents and provide members with something during closure, they failed to offer anything but one or two classes outside per day. Even with gyms being open they still allow basically nothing for kids to do-kids not allowed in the pool or gym to play basketball. Really disappointed in the Y. Thought they were better than this. Not honoring the memberships shows complete and utter disrespect for their members while I'm sure the employees never took a pay cut during the closure. Extremely unhelpful and rude staff. Man who answers phones during the day is exert at giving rude answers. We call this afternoon to find out whether fall swim lesson schedule is out. His answer was fall schedule will come out in fall! When I asked for his name he simply hung up on me. I called second time to find about space at Y summer camp, and he answered​ no space is available without even pretend to look into it. He was lying to the core. When you call you're rudely told to go online for information, and if you're not in a position to do that, just expect to be talked down to and then abruptly dismissed. The primary reason for my two star rating is the customer service... lack of it!!! The front desk staff can hardly smile or acknowledge your presence even when you're standing in front of them. The only friendly interactions I've experienced (and was a member for a year!) is the older gentleman at the scan in or the women Hazel. The rest can't be bothered to help you or answer a question with out being completely disgusted. There's a million gyms in the area, at the fraction of the cost, that would be happy to have your business with better customer service. With that said, the facilities are nice, locker rooms are big but can get busy and overwhelmed during peak hours. read more

The staff is extremely mean and rude, especially Kim. I would give it negative stars if I could. I just moved to this area and am so disappointed within one week of joining this Y. They have horrible staff, attitude, and atmosphere, compared to the Y I used to go to for 20 years. Tried to talk to their operational director, Cheryl, but the director defended their bad customer service without even waiting to hear my complaint, so how would members trust them to handle things fairly and how would we expect them to change their bad attitude. Not to mention they did not provide hot water, not even cold water after we finished swimming, and they did not let us know that there was no water until after we finished swimming. I had an emergency and asked Kim to borrow a phone and she did not even reply to me, just ignored me completely and then walked away. I needed to find my husband in the locker room and none of the staff would help. I just don't think they have the right attitude to be working in a facility like the YMCA which is supposed to be welcoming and friendly. (I miss the Y I used to go to, they have family-like staff there.) Right after writing this review, the operational director called me and told me they have "two witnesses" whatever that means. I'm a not a member of the Morristown Y, I'm actually a member of a Y in NYC but I was spending time in the area because of work. I travel a lot and use local YMCAs for their pools. This one ranks among the top 5 of pools I've been to in terms of how nice and clean the pool is, how great the women's locker room is and how friendly everyone who works there has been. It's a 25m pool which can be hard to find and they only have a couple of hours a day without lap swimming so the hours are fairly easy and convenient. I don't know what it's like to be a member, but as a visitor it's great. Oh I should add that it's 6$ a day for visitors (every Y has a different policy on this), but given the quality of the facilities I don't mind paying it. read more

I have bad gym karma. Let me explain. Golds Gym on route 10 has finally collapsed into a heap so after 2 months with no classes and childcare there in late 2013. So providentially, I received a trial pass to check out the Greater Morristown YMCA. The women's locker rooms at the Y are a revelation and very nice. You can actually go in there, unlike Gold's. The classes at the YMCA seem pretty good, the main complaint would be that yoga room floors were pretty dusty and maybe a little hairy. Well a little more than dusty, my feet got filthy dirty after walking on the yoga room floors. But I can live with that after years of low standards at Golds. Great joy reigned in our house hold as the years in Golds gym purgatory seemed to fall away. We decided we would join the YMCA and we told the front desk people that we planned to join as a family. The $100 intro membership fee would be waived they said. Laaaaaaaa! However on what I thought was the last day of my trial pass the woman at the front desk at the Y, someone I had not seen before, was pretty heavy handed. She took my guest pass and tore it up into little pieces in front of me. Far enough, the card was expiring but it just doesn't feel good when someone cuts a card up in front of you and everyone else. Then later she gave me a talking to about how the Y has "maintain safety" and be "careful who is allowed in." I felt maybe, just maybe this was a coded message that they didn't want my kind as a member. I called the Y membership director, and tried to figure it out. But it was kind of "meh" on the phone, trying to be helpful but not really. So I give the Greater Morristown YMCA a "meh" rating and we've decided not to join there. This is what I mean about bad karma in gyms. All I want is a gym that is basically clean, provides classes and a place where I don't get profiled for being a security risk at the front desk because of my accent. I have been a member of this facility for several months. It is a very clean and we'll maintained facility. The women's locker room is very nice. I especially am happy with all of the employees. I have been in contact with staff from the front desk to the pool and aquatic staff. Hazel, at the front desk is not only very enthusiastic to help, but, always cheerful and sweet. I joined initially for swim lessons and now enjoy the exercise facility. The swim instructors and aquatic staff are very knowledgeable and are great with any age range. I have only one complaint thus far. There are signs in the gym asking patrons to clean the equipment after use. I have observed that many do not. I would like to see that rule somehow enforced, if possible. read more

I mainly like to life weights and this weight area is not good, it's cramped and they don't have good equipment. My son asked for help and the floor attendant said he couldn't spot him and the same attendant asked him to help clean up when his shift was over because he couldn't lift the weights. A lot of old guys hanging out talking and the front desk is not helpful and will not even give you a guest pass like other gyms do. My wife took some classes and joined another gym within a month since the classes at this YMCA were not good. They have a hard time keeping the temperature regulated. Gyms are for sweating, this place is freezing. When I complained I was told to put a sweater on? Instead I dropped my membership. Also overpriced for what you get. read more

Swimming classes for children are awesome. Not so friendly front end. Good work out equipment. I would not trust my children in child care when working out. Employees are more interested in talking to one another then knowing where your children are. Don't bother bringing any problems to head of YMCA. They are always right and you are wrong. They aren't really interested in what you have to say. If going there to work out on own, go to workout classes and swimming lessons this is the place for you. I agree with the previous reviews of being over-priced and the front desk is unfriendly. Every time I walked into the place a bunch of women were huddled and were talking about people. The weight area is horrible and outdated and the classes are slow and always the same year after year. All of their good instructors move- on or leave because they are not treated well,I have heard this from several past instructors.the yoga is bad, the cycle room has massive fans that are loud and blow on your face and the instructors yell too much. I will say, the pool is nice, but I don't swim and I'm not sure how clean it is with all the kids and swim teams in it. I once put a suggestion in a box at the front desk which I assumed to be anonymous, but the place has cameras all over the place so the evil fron desk watches the vidoes to see who complains and then they actually harass you.That seeme almost illegal. The "fitness director" isn't an exercise person and she bascially blow-off any suggestions and the head of the Y is no where to be found. Rumor has it she works out somewhere else! The place needs a staff makeover and the parking lot is ridiculous. They also don't participate in the Y sharing. So I joined Mountain Lakes Y (cheaper. better classes and they give towels) and now I can go to any Y in the county. It may sound basic, but the people at this Y are mean to members. read more

I was first a member of this gym in high school. I graduated college this spring, and at the beginning of this summer I was looking for a nearby gym I could workout and shower at before my new job I was starting. I went to the Greater Morristown YMCA, signed up, and everything was fine for 2 months. I took a month off after some knee pain, but continued to pay my membership. After my knee healed I went back to workout before work again but I had forgotten the locker room code. I went to the front desk to ask for the code, but being that I'm 22 she told me I'm not allowed in the locker room because the age requirement is 23. When I initially signed up earlier in the summer I was not told about this age requirement, and I was given the code to the locker room. However, when I asked her why it wasn't an issue when I signed up she had no answer for that. I immediately cancelled my membership since I need a gym that allows me to workout, shower, and change before work. read more
