Cool, little speakeasy that is hidden in Xtreme Action Park. You have to get the key code from their website in order to enter. The interior is very small with only about a dozen seats. I read prior reviews that stated not to bother it's just a bar in a gaming complex and I was hoping they were wrong. Unfortunately I totally agree. This is a glorified bowling alley bar. The concept is cool as far as a speakeasy goes but it's more like the speakeasy it wishes it could be. Feels cheap as far as decor goes. Drinks are really expensive and all sugar orientated. The menu is full of unique drinks but the star of the show is the Gold Rush which is a lychee flavored drink rimmed with powder from a flower that alters your taste buds. For entertainment, they have a free escape room with clues hidden all around the speakeasy. The prize is a secret menu drink. The bartenders are very friendly and easy to talk to. We stopped in a bit ago to Green Hat, one of the newest speakeasy's in South Florida. We arrived and knew where to go. I had been the month before, and we were turned away due to someone renting the place out. So the work on figuring out where to go was done. It was in the back past the arcades and in the escape room area. This time we got in. They called from the front area to see if there was room which was a little silly as once in there, we saw was only 2 people. There were only a few spots to sit, we grabbed two spots at the bar. The bartender was a nice enough guy. I ordered the Green Hat Grog. It came with the top lit. Oddly it was lit in the middle of the bar and I had to get up and walk around to blow it out and take my drink. My friend got her drink as well. After a few minutes she said her lips were numb. He said there was some ingredient on the top that does that. That was the second odd thing in 2 drinks that they wouldn't give a heads up on that. We made some small talk with the bartender and the manager there and they started trashing a couple other speakeasy's in town. I get why but didn't seem classy. This well kept secret is not as well kept as it used to be, but this is still a great place to go for a quiet night out. My friends and I first found The Green Hat in February when we were looking for a good cocktail lounge to go to for a birthday. It's a bit awkward to find, because you have to walk through the action park and all of the screaming kids, but once you are in the lounge, you are transported to a quieter, calmer place. There is a code created for every day, so you'll need to follow them on Instagram to find it. The inside is small, with just enough seating for maybe about 15 people, including bar seating. It is dark and atmospheric, definitely giving a 1920s speakeasy vibe. The bar where the mixologist creates the drink is covered in all of the decorations, additions, and flourishes, that every drink has, i.e rubber ducks, umbrella straws, and flamingo toothpicks. Every drink is handcrafted in front of you, and you can tell that the guy making it is very skilled and passionate about the presentation and the taste. My favorite drinks that I have tried there, have been the leviathan, and the deconstructed piña colada. The leviathan is a version of a spicy margarita served in a clay fish and the piña colada is served on ice, with a desiccated lime, filled with the most amazing tasting lime creme, ever. As I said, this place is small and fills up quickly, get there early, find a seat, and enjoy the chill atmosphere. read more

I love a speakeasy. During prohibition they were hidden bars selling illegal alcohol during the ban. Today they are still hidden but far from illegal. Modeled after the historical speakeasies of the 20's and 30's, the fun is finding your way inside and once you do you get to enjoy amazing craft cocktails in unique spaces. According to "legend" the Man in the Green Hat is James Cassidy, a notorious bootlegger from South Florida. He got his nickname from his beloved lucky green fedora. Using his speedboat The Leviathan, he smuggled alcohol from the Bahamas into South Florida. One night he was chased by the Coast Guard through a storm. The Coast Guard boat was overturned and all they ever found of the Leviathan was a piece of its stern. The government closed the case and that was the end of the Man in the Green Hat, or was it? Rumors circulated that he was shipwrecked, captured by mermaids, or dragged to another dimension through the Bermuda Triangle. Years later, deep in the swamp, hunters reported spotting a man wearing a green fedora. Now you can explore the myth and legend of the Man in the Green Hat at The Green Hat Speakeasy, a new bar experience that opened in November of last year inside of Xteme Action Park by the Escape Room. You can find it located behind a green door. Follow them on social media for a chance to get the code that changes weekly. I was also easily able to find it just by googling it. Once you enter the code into the keypad on the door it unlocks letting you into the secret room. The risk of creating a speakeasy is that the space can feel claustrophobic since it is usually small and windowless but they did a great job here. There is seating is at one of the room and the bar is on the opposite wall. Lining the wall is a bookcase where you can find clunes to open surprises in the room. Hint, check out the phonebooth. The real highlight of the Green Hat Bar was Iker Ibanez, the mixologist helming the bar. This is not your ordinary cocktail. So much care is taken in using the freshest top quality ingredients and the way they are put together. Each drink was a show. Some of the cocktails I tried were the Blue Crush made with vodka, honey, pineapple juice, coconut cream, and cinnamon that was lit on fire, the Deconstructed Pina Colada made with rum, lime juice, pineapple juice, heavy cream, and coconut, and the Whirlpool made with gin orange triple sec, lemon juice, Aquafaba, dragon fruit, and basil simple syrup served in a bath tub with a rubber ducky. The Davy Jones Locker was a show stopper. Cocktails will set you back $15 and they are worth every penny. Iker has magic hands. Mocktails can also be created for you. I also tasted some of their savory bites off their special menu. The poke, pork belly, whipped feta, and brussels sprouts were the perfect compliment to the fantastic cocktails. So I will say I'm shocked where this is located. It's in the back of xtreme action off cypress. So a younger crowd would wander in and then leave after a drink or two. It's small and they do not take reservations so if you do want to check it out you may need to wait if too many people are inside; there is no time limit on staying which is nice. The mixologist was friendly and chatted with us while there. They're planning on serving small bites eventually but currently there isn't any food. The drinks were good but slightly pricier than other speakeasy's I've been to. If you're in this area I think it's a great location to visit though not sure if I'll go out of my way to visit. read more

The fact that it was hidden pretty much in plain sight and that I needed a code to get in 'had me at hello' and made me NEED to go that much more. So I went, and from the moment we we sat ourselves at the bar, the bartender - on second thought let's call him the "Libation Engineer"... real name Iker - had so much knowledge and skill in his craft, and kept us chatting and entertained the entire time. Amazing "secret" speakeasy inside of Xtreme Action Park! So I know this place is supposed to be a secret - but it's located inside where the escape rooms are! LOL! I think they're doing a great job with advertising and sponsored posts on IG (which is how I found them) but now that some people know about it... STOP ADVERTISING! It's supposed to be a secret. When we arrived before our mini golf tea time I thought we'd have plenty of time to grab a drink (about 45 minutes). There's only two staff members working (the guy that takes the orders/payment and the guy that makes the drinks). That's it. But since it's only two people... it took a while for us to get a drink. So long in fact that we told them to hold off and that we'd be back after our mini golf session. When we came back about an hour later it was even busier than before but the host made sure to get my drink out as quickly as possible since he knew we'd been waiting. Drink pricing is a bit on the pricey side - but you're paying for an experience. These are craft cocktails that are expertly made and presented. Just pay the $15 and deal with it. The small area only has a few bar seats and some bench seats and it's mostly standing room. But let me tell you how ecstatic I was when I got that drink in the little bath tub with the duckie in it. Prohibition era bootleggers are turning over in their graves gut the drink was fantastic! Besides advertising less, I think they need to spruce up the décor a little more but otherwise... they've got the right idea.
