The hard-to-pin-down cultural vibe in Wilmington includes a surprising number of vegan restaurants, but this is quite different than the others I've tried, and is more of a high-end farm-to-table place where most people had reservations. The menu was delightful, with creative applications of vegetables that exuded local flare. My grilled radicchio salad was a convincing account of why one might want to grill a radicchio, with an exciting mix of sweet apples and bitter greens in every bite. The grits seemed the best bet of the entrees, and these were served under a gumbo that smelled exactly like you'd expect gumbo to smell, despite the fact that this one is based on mushrooms and sweet potatoes. I was very sad when it was gone. A much as I like eating in New Orleans, I've not been able to find dishes like this there. Although the food was on point, other aspects of my experience weren't. They had a non-alcoholic beverage selection that sounded good, but my cardamom-garnished cocktail looked cool, but didn't hit the flavor contrast nearly as hard as my food did. And service-wise, it seemed like I got passed between different people and never really got a good opportunity to ask nuanced questions about the menu, and I waited a while at several stages. Given that it wasn't the busiest night, they seemed to be struggling a bit to keep up with surrounding tables as well. And when you're paying high-end prices, you can rightfully expect that the full experience will be flawless. If I were local, I have no doubt I'd come back periodically as there were intriguing menu items that I didn't have room for. I'm not in the area regularly, but I'd recommend the beach tourist with special dietary needs to give it a try.

Outstanding food. Unique and flavorful vegan options with a focus on sustainability and locally sourced produce. The charred kale salad far exceeded my expectations for a kale salad. The arancini was a great appetizer to share and while I typically prefer a crispier fry, it still enjoyed this lighter variation. The smoked sausage was a hearty winter meal, but I found the flavors a little dull. However, the ambiance and wait made the experience far less enjoyable. The room felt a little too tight, but I think dimmer lights would've provided a slightly more private and intimate space. The wait was far beyond reasonable. It took 40 minutes for the appetizer to come out, and at least another 40 more for the entree. We were there for a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes. While we would've liked to try a dessert, we did not want to wait any longer. Our waiter was making drinks behind the bar for substantial portions of the evening so I am hoping it was just a short staffed night. While I would recommend for a rare special occasion, it is not somewhere I would repeatedly eat at.

Some of the absolute best vegan food I have ever had. Straight out of the classiest joints in California but with a Southern vibe. It's both upscale and relaxed with just incredibly high quality food. We came in 30 minutes before closing and everyone was just incredibly gracious and knowledgeable about the menu. Can't recommend enough

My husband and I decided to kick off our spring break vacation with a visit to The Green House. We are so glad we did!! We aren't even vegetarians (though I eat vegetarian most of the time), and we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. My husband had a peach brandy flip, and I ordered the zero proof blackberry smash. We had the king trumpet appetizer, which reminded me a lot of Moroccan cuisine. I ordered the warm smoked potato salad, which we also split. The salad was a generous portion. I could easily make a meal of one of their salads! I decided to try the gnocchi, and my husband ordered the Italian sausage and fennel. I totally forgot the menu is gluten free. The gnocchi were fantastic! If you love carrots, these gnocchi come with roasted carrots and pickled carrots. My husband said he enjoyed the natural sweetness of the seed bread that came with his sausages. The chocolate cake was definitely the star of the show. We would return just for the cake!!! We couldn't believe it was both gluten free and vegan. The raspberry dusting on the plate complements the super dark chocolate perfectly.

Excellent vegan food- took my best friend here for her 30th birthday and it was incredible. We loved every dish we tried. The lions mane mushroom with the potato pave was so flavorful and unexpectedly good. The presentation was also great and we shared two appetizers and two entrees which was a good amount of food for us and we still had room for dessert. We couldn't really taste any jalapeño in the cornbread but it was good cornbread. The bisque was perfect- not too salty and had great flavor and nice crunch on top with pumpkin seeds. The ambiance was amazing- super clean and modern and I love that they have their own attached greenhouse where they grow their own greens and herbs. They also have reverse osmosis water. Everything is very farm to table/sustainable which is great. Our server was great too and friendly!

Whether you are vegan or not you have to go to the Green House Restaurant. My party of three ( one vegan) all agreed that the ambiance of the restaurant was perfect and the food was amazing. We started with arancini, so tasty and not greasy, ceviche made with artichoke and corn bread that any southern grandma would love. Entrees of fresh pasta lemoni that was light made with peas, lions mane mushrooms that tasted like steak and paella that would stand up to any Spanish restaurant. Vegan cheesecake and chocolate cake for desert was a great way to finish a perfect meal. They had a full bar and good wine choices too. Overall a true gem in Wilmington! Don't miss this restaurant. Kudos to owners, chefs and staff!

Made a reservation online the same day. Hours before we went. So simple. Place is fabulous. We will definitely be going back. They have washcloths as "paper towels " in the bathrooms. That is definitely something I can appreciate! I do that in my own home but for the kitchen. Everything here is gluten free!!! They have a good drink menu. The menu is simple. I would pass on the charcuterie board. That was the only thing we were not impressed with for price. (However the mushrooms on that board were amazing) Salads are sizable and great. The Entrée was amazing! So flavorful! We were questioning our choice when the board came out but the salad and the main dish definitely had us happy and satisfied!

Made reservations on https://www.exploretock.com/thegreenhousenc The address listed on there was incorrect so we got a little lost. Mentioned it to the staff and they corrected the address immediately. Currently, they don't have a sign out front so it may be a little hard to find. When you see the sign for Union Bank, you have arrived. The interior design and decor is very minimalistic, clean, white. I almost felt like I was in SoCal for a minute. You can tell a lot of thought was put into every detail of the restaurant. Plants line the middle of the room, adding a fresh pop of color to the nearly white interior. The tables are made of wood with cream-colored chairs and booths and set with white linen dinner napkins. There is bar seating as well. In the bathroom, there are one-time use hand towels. Staff uniforms are blue denim, which adds to the clean look. Upbeat music was playing during our dinner. All of the foods are vegan and gluten-free. Majority of the foods are organic and they try to source local. We started out with complimentary cornbread with a vegan butter, flavored with cinnamon and citrus. It was a nice small snack. For salads we tried the Ribbons of Root ($13) and Arugula and Herbs ($13). They were both good and I would get them again. The Arugula and Herbs had more dressing so it was a bit oilier and had a tangy taste. I liked the variety of shredded/thinly sliced root vegetables in the Ribbons of Root salad and the different textures with the addition of chopped macadamia nuts and pomegranate. For entrees we tried the Aubergine Filet ($29) and the Italian Sausage and Fennel ($28). They were both good and I would get them again. The Aubergine Filet is made to be a "steak", so it's half of a large eggplant cooked to a thick meaty texture. I liked the brown gravy and the chunky parsnip potatoes that came with the dish. The Italian Sausage is made with walnuts and white beans, but looks just like sausage. You can obviously tell when eating it that is not real sausage, because it has more of the mashed bean texture. I liked that parts of the exterior were a little crispy. The sausage was laid over sliced fennel bulbs and a slightly sweet chunky and seedy tomato sauce. For desserts, we tried the Fruit galette ($13) and Matcha Brulee ($12). The fruit used is seasonal- it was blueberry during our visit. The blueberry filling of the Fruit galette was good, but the crust was a little hearty and dense. I liked the lemon zest garnish on the blueberries. The Matcha Brulee was interesting. It had the caramelized crust of a creme brulee but the pudding filling had the flavor of matcha and a touch of ginger. It was served with strawberry cream on the side topped with diced fresh strawberries and a garnish of sliced candied ginger. For drinks we tried the Dragonfruit Smash cocktail (non alcoholic/$11) and the Daou The Pessimist Red Blend Rasi Robles red wine ($12). I liked the cocktail and my partner enjoy the red wine. Be aware, if you have a lot of to-go boxes and want a bag, there is a $10 fee. The $10 is a donation fee to the Plastic Ocean Project. We had a lot of to-go boxes so I appreciated the waitress labeling the food that was in each box. Some of the prices were a bit pricey. If you can get over that, this is a great restaurant for vegetarians, vegans and for anyone looking to try creative foods in an upscale setting.

This is my third time dining at this establishment and I'm always amazed at the quality and deliciousness of the food. Amazing quality of ingredients, satisfying and brilliantly combined and well worth the prices. Service is excellent, great cocktails and modern minimalist designed interior. Please let them know if you have any food allergies since a lot of their meals have nuts. I had their Smokes Sausage entree which was made from walnuts. It was phenomenal! This is the place where you can take your non vegan friends and they will be pleasantly surprised and love their meals.

So impressed! Coming from LA with many vegan/plant based options this place did more than impress us! The flavors were fresh and grown in house, we toured the greenhouse. Unique, colorful clean presentation. Everything is home made, grown in house and or locally sourced. The service was friendly and efficient. The interior and story behind shows sustainability with little waste. Worth the price point! Cannot wait to visit again.

This place is hard for me to rate. The food may be fabulous to those that are vegan and gluten free, but it's not my typical food. We were here to celebrate our friends birthday and we wanted to share her special day. The staff were fabulous! Very attentive. Great atmosphere except the six of us sat on bar stools. We were there for two hours and a few times some of us stood up to stretch our backs. Not comfortable at all. We started with the Charcuterie for a crowd ($40), which had an, "An assortment of cheeses, charcuteries, with crackers and accompaniments.; For six of us, we all had a very small taste on the plate. I would rather them reduce the amount of items to a fewer amount so everyone had the chance to taste each one. DH said most things tasted the same. I think my favorite was the mushroom pate. Four of us ordered the Italian Sausage & Fennel, "Roasted fennel and grilled Italian sausage made from walnuts and white beans, are nestled upon a fresh tomato sauce with a slice of freshly baked seeded loaf." The sausage reminded me of a dense bean burger. Good flavors, not much fennel, but the sauce was good. My two other friends enjoyed their food. Really, it was 'okay' for DH and me. Very expensive for a veggie/vegan dinner. No, we won't go back but we were happy to be with our friends.

Looking for a vegan Thanksgiving meal?…read more It's holiday season and if you're like me, spending hours in the kitchen does not sound like fun. But being one of the only plant-based eater with limited options at a family meal isn't either. So last year I opted to pick up a prepared meal from Sealevel. EVERYTHING was delicious but my favs were the greens, potatoes, pumpkin pie and butterbeans. Everything was perfectly packaged and includes instructions for reheating. As you're making holiday plans and if your family dinner includes even 1 - 2 plant based eaters, consider picking up a FULLY prepared meal option for them. OR if you're visiting ILM and want a low-key Thanksgiving, check out Sealevel. I've included their menu from last year but this year's version should be available soon.

What a fantastic evening at Dram Yard…read more We were a little concerned we might miss our 5:30 reservation after getting delayed by a seven-car accident on the bridge, but we arrived just a couple of minutes late and it wasn't an issue at all. From the moment we arrived, the experience was relaxed, welcoming, and exactly what we needed. We chose to sit in the beautiful courtyard, and with temperatures in the 70s, sunshine overhead, and a gentle breeze, it couldn't have been a more perfect setting. The outdoor gazebo bar creates a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying a cocktail before dinner, and if the weather isn't cooperating, the indoor dining space is equally inviting. A special thank you to Sarah, whose service was outstanding. She was cheerful, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which made for a peaceful and unhurried dining experience. For drinks, I ordered the Ghost Town, while my wife enjoyed the Venus Flytrap. Both were beautifully prepared and easy to see why they're among the restaurant's popular cocktails. The food was equally impressive. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, and it was exceptional. The kitchen even accommodated my request for extra freshly cracked black pepper, which took an already excellent dish to another level. My wife ordered the Little Gem Salad with shrimp, and it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also shared the Tuna Tartare Tostada, which was outstanding--beautiful presentation, fresh tuna, and a great balance of textures and flavors. Adding to the experience was a bottle of Albariño that paired wonderfully with the meal. What stands out most about Dram Yard is its atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can settle in, slow down, enjoy a handcrafted cocktail, and forget about the stresses of the day. Whether you're looking for a date night, an evening with friends, or simply a quiet place to relax, Dram Yard delivers. Excellent service, creative cocktails, outstanding food, and one of the most relaxing outdoor dining spaces in Wilmington. We'll definitely be back.

The funny part? The kitchen initially sent out the shrimp dish... without the shrimp. We had to ask for them to bring the missing shrimp, which they quickly corrected. I couldn't help but imagine Chef Gordon Ramsay standing in the kitchen shouting, "You served the shrimp dish without any shrimp, you muppet!" That alone was worth a chuckle. We sat at the bar, where service is usually outstanding. This time the bartender was clearly overwhelmed and stretched thin, so things moved a little slower than normal. Even so, everyone remained professional and friendly. Chef Dean Neff has set a very high standard here, and it's easy to understand why Seabird has received so much recognition and James Beard attention over the years. The food quality, creativity, and consistency continue to make it one of our favorite spots in Wilmington. A missing shrimp on a shrimp dish and slower-than-usual bar service keep this from being a perfect score, but neither issue was enough to spoil the meal.

The place was not very large but relatively full, so be wary of coming later unless you're OK waiting. The restaurant had a bit of a rustic look but clean & well maintained, and nice local art posted on the walls. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and a lot of the food was sourced locally. We started with a sweet potato- goat cheese "guacamole" appetizer. I split the Jefe's Arroz Con Pollo and the Carne Con Ancho with my son. My girlfriend got the vegan rellenos. Food came out in maybe 20 minutes. The ACP was very good but unusual. It came with a thigh and leg of chicken on top, and a big mix of flavors of food underneath-- coconut rice, black beans, pineapple salsa. Curiously no cheese. Very different from any ACP I've ever had. Overall, it was fine-- honestly, my son and I both felt it was too many flavors that overwhelmed each other. In contrast, the Carne Con Ancho was spectacular. The steak bits were cooked rare to perfection and absolutely melt in your mouth. The flavors of the arepa below it as well as the horseradish and other components blended beautifully and made for a wonderful dish. My girlfriend said the rellenos were nicely fried and the sweet potato puree was excellent-- a very hearty dish without feeling heavy. And we all also really liked the guacamole appetizer-- unusual yet delicious flavor (and no avocado). Price was fair-- this was definitely upscale, so not "cheap", but fair for what we got. Overall, I'd happily come back, and definitely would want that Carne Con Ancho again. I recommend.
