Fourteen of us had dinner recently before going to the theater. We had 5pm reservations. My husband and I ordered one of the appetizer specials, deep fried beef rolls (Börek). They were excellent! I had the shrimp and beef kebabs that came with white rice and a house salad (sort of like a slaw). I ordered the beef medium-rare, but should have ordered rare. The meat was still pretty tender. I liked the salad. My husband ordered the vegetable delight, which was an eggplant dish served with pita bread. Everything was very good and we had great service. read more

What a gem! I've lived in Wilmington for years, and I finally was able to try Black Sea Grill. What a treat! A girlfriend and I met for lunch one day. I'm trying to eat healthier so I was excited about the kabobs. However, the owner sold me on the special of the day- the branzini filet- which was amazing! So light and tasty with delicious grilled veggies on the side. My friend had the kabobs which she kindly shared with me so I could try them- so good! Went there with a group of friends (7) and had a wonderful time. The drinks were great (Beer and Wine) and the appetizers were delicious. The gentlemen working were quick and ready to take care of all of us. Our food came out all together and the meal was fantastic. I will go back to try other dishes other than the Lamb, maybe. We couldn't decide where to eat lunch and this place seemed empty compared to some others. We were glad we stopped. Owner on premises was very friendly and informative. Food took a little while to come out but when it did, it was excellent and fresh. Prices were average. Metered parking, so you will need lots of change if you park on Front Street during the day. read more

I've fluctuated between a three and a four, but since we'd go back to eat here, I went with a four. The food was good, and we love that they had four Turkish wines to choose from. We ordered the Angora and it was so smooth and velvety. The hummus was extremely good and the pita amazing. I ordered the chicken kabobs with Jasmine rice and veggies. The rice was delicious, the veggies was Cole slaw but warm; it was good and a pretty large serving. The chicken was too dry but thankfully came with a great sauce. My husband ordered the surf and turf which was lamb chops and mahi mahi. The mahi was fantastic, but the lamb was cooked medium-well rather than medium. The server, John, was nice enough but a bit abrupt and I had to keep asking for my water glass to be refilled, which I find annoying. This is one hard restaurant to eat at! Current takeout only, only on Friday and Saturday. They're also about to shut down for a month or so for summer break, so when we realized we didn't have Friday dinner plans and didn't want to go out, we realized we could finally give them a try. I ordered the grape leaves and the chargrilled mahi with rice and a side salad. My husband got the Turkish Patties, rice, and side salad. I do not know what magical seasoning they put in that salad dressing, but my mouth is literally watering thinking about it. I could drink that dressing. The grape leaves were pretty good - there was a spice in them that I couldn't place and don't think is typically in other grape leaves I've had. I could do without this mystery spice. Rice was good (maybe slightly over cooked). The mahi had good flavor, but I think i should've ordered a sauce or something to go with it. It was kind of strange on its own. My husband was a little let down by the patties - nothing super special about them I guess. I will definitely be back for that side salad (who am I) and am excited to try some of the other dishes on the menu. read more

Best meal we had for our weekend in Wilmington. I do recommend calling and making reservations for the weekend dinner. We just happened by chance to walk in as they opened at 5pm on Saturday night and got the last open table they had. We had the stuffed grape leaves for an appetizer. They were served cold which we were not expecting but they were very good. I had the chicken kebab and vegetables which were very moist and delicious. My husband had the special which was a grilled sea bass which he loved. We topped it off with the homemade baklavi and Turkish coffee! Great find and if we're ever back in the area a must! read more

The falafle was very dry and hard. Eggplant dish was bland. My friend liked his fish. I do not plan on returning.

I was excited to try a new place on an early Saturday for dinner. Greeting was warm and we were seated. The menu was very limited so I was taken back a bit. I ordered the Mediterranean combo. No extras on the table. No bread, no anything. Everything outside your entree was extra. The entree was ok. I was expecting more flavors. The lamp chop was cooked nicely. But needed a sauce to bring it to life. The chicken fell flat. The beef kabob was alright. All in all the plate was just ok. I just anticipated a wow. No wow here. Bummer. read more

Received a post card from this restaurant. I had it sitting around forever, waiting for just the right time and person - to go. The food was authentic and tasty. I had the eggplant dish. Mind you, I'm not a fan of egg plant but I really liked it. The spices are everything. I also opted for two orders of the sautéed cabbage as my side dish. This is such a surprising restaurant given it's location next to a bawdy bar. Oh, one doesn't eat in the BSG at this time--it is take-out only (Thank you, COVID, I think?). I cannot speak to the dining experience inside but the food is SO FABULOUS! Not sure why "Black Sea" 'cause it seems like I'm back on a Greek Island indulging in the traditional foods (stuffed grape leaves, tzatziki, skewered meats that are so tender and wonderfully spiced). *Sigh*. Invited by friends was very excited to try this place as I thoroughly enjoy Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food. Firstly, I find the name interesting "Blacksea Mediterranean Grill" two separate Seas but whatever. It's is Turkish centric which is slightly different than say Greek, Lebonese or Israeli cuisine. Had the the falafel appetizer . 4 falafels firmly fried (firm crust soft inside). The tzakziki was very good. Had the Black Sea sampler lamb, beef and chicken with greek salad was delightful. I had the pan fried trout & my husband had the grilled shrimp. Both entrees were excellent. The margarita we had was great too. We were very disappointed in the fried calamari to the point that I stopped eating after just a couple bites. The restaurant itself is endearing. When Black Sea Grill reopened late last fall, my wife and I were ecstatic. Flooding and then Florence kept the doors closed at this venerable downtown spot. The food is unpretentious but delicious Turkish fare, kabobs etc, made with love. I've had kabob from Astoria Queens to Qal-I-Zal Afghanistan, and these are good. For me, at Mediterranean style restaurants, quality counts over Ethnic recipes. This is family owned and run, and the care that they have for their craft, their community and their guests shows in everything they do. I'm a huge fan of the Turkish Patties, a savory lamb and beef kabob, washed down with a cold Efes lager. Try the Shepards Salad, or the Grouper for something new. read more

My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant last night. Wow! While we don't normally mess with this review stuff, we decided to make an exception for this place. First of all, the place is intimate, so you might think you are in a cafe somewhere on the Mediterranean coast. We started with the Shepard Salad with red wine & vinegar. Excellent. The salad was crisp and very fresh. Then we proceeded with the chargrilled Mahi Mahi, and the Baby Lamb Chops. All served with jasmine rice. The texture of the fish was so fresh and delicate that we are sure is was fresh...and not frozen. This really impressed us. The seasoning was not overdone, so the fish tasted like it was caught that morning. The Lamb Chops had that classic lamb taste which we love, and were tender and seasoned to perfection. The long and short of it is that if you are passing through Wilmington, check this place out! It is apparently family owned, and they have mediterranean roots. Made a reservation for a group of 5 on a Friday evening. We were seated right away. The seating is pretty limited here, so make a reservation if you have a big group! We got a sampler appetizer and calamari. Both were delicious. My mom said the calamari was the best she ever had. I ordered the Turkish Patties (ground beef & lamb with Mediterranean herbs), which are served kebab-style with rice and salad. Others in my party ordered chicken kebabs, a lamb special entree, shrimp & chicken, and beef kebabs. My Turkish patties were very tasty. The salad was interesting (herbs were nice) and the rice was cooked perfectly. I tried the chicken, beef, and lamb, and all were cooked just right. I especially commend the temperature on the chicken -- chicken can be difficult to cook (especially with the size of the pieces for kebabs)...and these were very moist - PERFECTION. The service was prompt. I tried a rum & coke one of my companions ordered and it was pleasantly strong! Drinks were refilled quickly. The prices were right - most entrees on the menu are around $15, which is awesome, especially for downtown. The portions are perfect also...none of us had leftovers, but I felt full, without feeling stuffed. My only disappointment was that there was no whole fish the night we went. I really was looking forward to having whole fish, as I never ordered whole fish at a restaurant before (and the pictures of it looked amazing). Went in with a party of 3. Small place but we thought it was a good place to be. We quickly noticed it was a family owned restaurant. Their menu is small however it seems everything that we ordered was amazing. I personally ordered starting from the appetizer a Hummus with bread. The hummus was perfect. It was lightly topped with lemon squeeze, Olive oil, and others. They have a small seafood menu which is acceptable, mostly fish. I ordered the Talapia with housesalad. Both their salad and the fish had the right seasoning. The fish seemed to have came with Jasmine rice, it was really well cooked. Ordered sweet teas for drinks and the flavor was perfect as well. Didn't have time for deserts but they have a fair menu for both deserts and wine. It's a small restaurant. I like it. It's one of those you find rarely when your zooming through town. The food was perfect. Service was acceptable. Acceptable as in: we came in, no one asked if we were new or anything, kinda just throw down the menu with a "hi" added before. Later on we were then asked if "everything is ok?" (Finally) question. I assumed they were busy that day even though the place wasn't packed yet. Other than that they were nice and did what they had to do to bring food to the table. I would visit again to get a better experience except bringing a bigger party. read more

My girlfriend and I recently dined here because we were craving Mediterranean food. It's a small but nicely decorated restaurant with only a few tables. Our server was polite but was a little on the forgetful side even though she claimed to be a writer and didn't need to write our order down. She forgot to get straws for our drinks, forgot to order our appetizer sampler which was tasty but the falafel was a little dry with no tzatziki sauce to dip it in. You have to order the sauce separately. The pita slices were warm and fresh tasting. The soup of the day which was barley was tasty. I ordered the fish special (grilled branzino) with two sides which were salad and rice but she forgot I chose rice and gave me pickled cabbage instead. I received the rice after I noticed the mix up. My girlfriend didn't like her falafel sandwich because the falafel was a little too dry. For dessert we ordered baklava and Turkish coffee which were good. I had the gyro with feta which was very good. The flavors were so good and the ingredients very fresh. My husband ordered a Turkish coffee which was unique, but very good.
