I spent several years looking for a long term facility for her because I didn't want to be caught off guard if something happened and she needed placed. I didn't want this important decision made in haste. After visiting more than a dozen facilities in the valley I selected Pacifica. I tell you the background because I have read several reviews not all good about the facility and I feel it's important give perspective. In addition to my research and visiting the facilities around the valley, my father was in three different facilities before he passed. What I have learned and I believe families should be aware is no place is going to feel perfect. No place is going to be as good as your loved one with normal health or brain function and living in their own home. So it's important to look for a partner in your care. I am beyond grateful that I found Pacifica. Although it's only 4 min from my house I would not have known about it without Care Patrol who let me know they had Alzheimer's cottages. From the first visit I felt heard, understood and respected. When we have had what I call "growing pains" them learning my mom, them learning my expectations and me learning their abilities and goals for mom, the executive director and departmental directors have had their doors wide open. When there have been challenges there has been a very lovely word - "yes" that they use in order to make sure we find a way to make the situation better. I love that my mom still has dignity and privacy in the cottage. I love that the little things to make her room a home have been met with a yes. I think the cottage based system should be the future for Alzheimer's. I have not seen a cognition based system implemented as well as it is here. My mom is very high functioning and so are the peers in her cottage. But I have the peace of mind knowing when she does need more help or loses her ability to communicate etc that there is a place for her on the same property in another cottage. She remained a resident for four years until she passed away at 93 years old. I talked to her daily and visited once or twice a week. So my review is a personal observation and experience. The caregivers, resident staff and executive director, are phenomenal! My mother was fortunate to live in the same cottage all four years, her caregivers became extended family. They knew her and did everything they could to make her life pleasant and easy. How she liked her coffee, her favorite cereal. She loved to read, and they always made sure she had her books. But most importantly, they were all so attentive, caring and respectful as she approached the end of her life. I was there every day during her last two weeks, sometimes in the morning, other times late in the day. No matter when I arrived, her care was exceptional. Her medication was always on time, and her comfort was always a priority. My mother's hospice nurses let me know they were impressed with the care she was receiving. She was always kept clean, her bedding was changed multiple times a week and her room was spotless. The executive director is a wealth of knowledge for all levels of care. And more importantly, she knows every resident by name, and knows their stories. I relied on her experience and knowledge for many decisions that I needed to make for my mother. She is very friendly and always approachable. She has excellent communication with her staff and is always available to answer any questions. My Mom moved into D&L adult care on 4/4/24. I last saw her on 4/2 at a Banner rehab facility. She…read morewas in great spirits and was on the mend from her neck surgery in March. I began receiving text messages from my brother that he was concerned about her care. She wasn't sleeping due to the noise and she said they treated her like luggage and were very rough with her. On the afternoon of 4/9 I received a text from my brother the her edema had spread from one leg to both legs and her arms. Her oxygen was at 87. He requested an ambulance for her to go to the hospital and she passed away a few hours later. My Mom had many drug allergies and I'm not sure anyone paid attention to the potential side effects of the pain meds she was given for 4 days. Side effects which include low oxygen and swelling in the arms and legs. I feel my Mom's care was subpar and her care did not seem to be a priority as her health quickly declined in the 5 days she was there. We paid $4000 for her 5 days there. We requested a partial refund for the days before she arrived as well for the remainder of the month. To our dismay that request was denied. We thought she was in a safe place now we are left without our Mom and are despondent about her final days under their care.

It's a terribly stressful decision to place a loved one into a facility such as this…read more Unfortunately, you're forced to rely on strangers to provide your family member with care, and in our case, I feel they failed my grandmother and in doing so, failed our entire family. While the staff seemed nice and the house appeared clean, my grandmother complained that the staff was rough with her and that she experienced quite a bit of pain when being moved around. She had recently had neck surgery so you'd assume that they would have taken extra precautions to ensure her comfort. Additionally, she began to experience severe edema and when the staff was asked about it, our family was told that it was "normal". The edema became so severe that she was literally leaking fluid from her legs and the staff simply put pads under her to protect the mattress. Meanwhile, my poor grandmother was left in wet clothes because her legs continuously leaked. Sadly, the situation became even worse and the edema moved up to her arms and the skin on her legs began to split, at which point staff contacted us and they were instructed to transfer her to the ER, where just 9 hours later, she passed away. She was in the care of this facility for six days. Just SIX days before dying. Our family paid $4000 for six days of, what I feel, was sub par treatment and we're now left wondering if we made a terrible mistake by choosing this facility. (I'd also like to add that they kept the full $4000 for the 5 1/2 days she was there. That's a cost of nearly $730 per day.)
