He was diagnosed with advanced dementia / advanced Alzheimer's and was unable to handle anything on his own including dressing. My wife & I became conservator and co-guardians. We needed to find a memory care qualified care facility where he would adapt, be taken complete care of, and thrive. We are fortunate that we elected to have him stay with Sunshine Village because the entire staff and level of care is amazing! He was always clean, shaved, hair cut, with his clothes on correctly. He gained weight, was involved with attending the music and games programs - and the community loved him. His last years were spent in a truly compassionate setting. As his medical complications worsened - Sunshine Village staff kept us informed each time he had to go to the hospital and made sure we understood the situation. As a teen, I worked in a series of 6 nursing homes in Massachusetts - and had an uncle with Alzheimer's. I have seen first-hand the comparisons that can be made with Sunshine Village and say without reservation that Sunshine Village is one of the most caring (if not THE MOST caring), committed community of professionals, delivering an amazing 24x7x365 program of memory care and personal care in a beautiful setting. They are dedicated to serving all their patients with dignity and respect. Most importantly - the caring attitude and kind approach to everything done at Sunshine Village, including the communications from staff, nurse, doctor, and administration - (at every level) exceeded all of our expectations. We regularly visited prior to COVID and when restrictions were put in place to protect the residents (THANK YOU!) - we asked for and received telephone updates. When visitation resumed - before being admitted to the facility - we were checked for temperature, required to properly wear our masks, and keep an appropriate distance from residents and staff. WELL DONE by following guidelines. We wish to express sincere appreciation for all that is done at Sunshine Village where residents and their families are treated with respect and kindness.

She remained a resident for four years until she passed away at 93 years old. I talked to her daily and visited once or twice a week. So my review is a personal observation and experience. The caregivers, resident staff and executive director, are phenomenal! My mother was fortunate to live in the same cottage all four years, her caregivers became extended family. They knew her and did everything they could to make her life pleasant and easy. How she liked her coffee, her favorite cereal. She loved to read, and they always made sure she had her books. But most importantly, they were all so attentive, caring and respectful as she approached the end of her life. I was there every day during her last two weeks, sometimes in the morning, other times late in the day. No matter when I arrived, her care was exceptional. Her medication was always on time, and her comfort was always a priority. My mother's hospice nurses let me know they were impressed with the care she was receiving. She was always kept clean, her bedding was changed multiple times a week and her room was spotless. The executive director is a wealth of knowledge for all levels of care. And more importantly, she knows every resident by name, and knows their stories. I relied on her experience and knowledge for many decisions that I needed to make for my mother. She is very friendly and always approachable. She has excellent communication with her staff and is always available to answer any questions. It was a blessing to find this facility with the help of a social worker. I met with the Executive Director, Erin who helped me understand the facility's approach to caring for its residents. She brought me a since of calm that I had not experienced since starting this journey with my spouse 3 years earlier. The office staff is professional and caring. The caregivers, nursing personnel and other staff are compassionate and always helpful. I no longer feared a call from an assisted living facility as I had in the past because I knew everything was under control, and my spouse was well cared for at all times by knowledgeable and tenderhearted personnel. As my spouse's condition deteriorated, everyone from office staff, to cottage staff were very kind and comforting. I routinely visited, unannounced, so I could check on my spouse. I found him well taken care of and happy during my visits. Hospice personnel who ultimately helped with the care of my spouse coordinated with The Cottages personnel, and my spouse was treated with respect and dignity. When he passed away, the staff were genuinely upset and empathetic toward my needs. I highly recommend The Cottages in Peoria AZ to care for your loved ones.

I have complained and they say yes, yes but ultimately nothing changes. I would be wary of any promises from them in the shopping or admitting processes. They were not clear about how assisted living works and ended up pricing us for level one and a few months after she moved in they moved her from 1 to 4 the highest level. The cost and process for determing this was not made clear to use in the sales process. Basically they promise a lot but don't keep their promises. In addition if your family members is in a wheel chair this is definately not the place for them. The apartment doors are to heavy to open on her own and if its not 9-5 on their front entrance which is handicapped accessible is not open. That is also worth know before you move in. The front desk is only open from 9-5ish on M-F and 9-3ish on weekends. When the front entrance is locked it is almost impossible for her to get out of the building or for that matter into the building. I am extremely disapointed in the quality of care. This place markets themselves as upscale independent and assisted living but I would not make the decision to put my mom into their assisted living again for what we pay there are many better and less expensive options. Seriously look elseware. They are shiny and new but they are mediocre at providing services. You can do better.

I don't blame her for leaving at all. What concerns me most is something I witnessed firsthand: while waiting to speak with her, I overheard a conversation between her and the executive director. His tone was belittling, and he spoke about writing up and firing staff in a way that felt dismissive of the people actually doing the caregiving. Given that, it's hardly surprising how many memory care directors have come and gone. It's worrying to think this same leadership will be opening a new, state-of-the-art center -- I have real concerns about whether the culture behind the scenes matches the polish out front. I don't typically write reviews, but after learning Laurin had left and seeing firsthand how unsanitary and rundown the common areas have become, I felt I owed it to other families to speak up. This is memory care -- the residents here are especially vulnerable, and I think that raises the stakes on all of this considerably.

Costs tremendously increased year over year, far exceeding the up to 5% quote they gave us when we moved in and ended up resulting in over 30% increases yet the quality of the amenities and services continued to decrease. I have no words to express how disappointed I am in the care and support that my mom receives in this facility, but yet the cost continues to increase. I will be looking to move my mom and if anybody wants to know my recommendation for enclave it is run and do not put your parent here. There is a difference between the staff being nice and some of them very much are, and the facility itself being aligned to caring for their patients versus caring for their money.

Although the nurses are overworked, they need a raise and they need to have a one nurse per hallway!!!!! then it will run so much smoother for the nurses. The nurses worked their buns off! and I am so appreciative of that and I am so grateful! I cannot tell you how pleasantly surprised I was of how great this place was!, the people that lived there and that were in my same situation were awesome. My room was lovely. I overlooked a fountain and had lots of sunlight and I had my own bathroom. My roommate was incredible Patricia. She's a 93-year-old blind woman who is the most interesting person. She was awesome, again the place was fantastically clean! It looks a little old older, but it makes up for everything of how great the nurses are and the care is, it was great. The food was great. They even have an area outside where they had a big barbecue and we had hamburgers and hotdog for everyone and they have tons and tons of activities. If that's what your people are into, they had games they had workouts. It was incredible. I can't say enough good things and I'm only in my 50s and I was so surprised but so grateful! I also did have a loved one who stayed there and she had a good experience there too!, so take it from me, I was just there the last day of February 2026 for an entire month until April and I cannot say enough good things about this place! The facility is constantly short staffed, which makes it extremely difficult to provide residents with the quality of care they deserve. With so few CNAs on the floor, call lights would often go unanswered, residents were left waiting for long periods, and basic care like hygiene and toileting was sometimes delayed. Many of us CNAs voiced our concerns, filed complaints, and even reported the building to the state in hopes of bringing positive change. Instead of addressing the issues, several staff members who spoke up were terminated. It felt like management, corporate, and even some of the nursing staff were more focused on protecting themselves than supporting the caregivers or prioritizing resident safety. There are good caregivers who truly care about the residents, but the system in place does not support them. The turnover rate is high, new hires often don't receive proper training, and the overall culture makes it hard to provide the compassionate care that families expect and residents need. Until major improvements are made in staffing, management, and overall accountability, I cannot recommend this facility as a safe workplace or as a place for loved ones to receive care.

My mother is a resident at this place, she is 81 years old and has pretty severe cognitive issues,…read moredementia. She lives in the memory care unit; you have to have a password to use the elevator to get to her floor. I forgot to mention, they have a tablet that you use to check in- you enter your phone number and then it asks if you're seeing your person. It takes your picture, then it prints out a label. You have to use it to check out too, security is important. I went to their Thanksgiving buffet, everyone went to the first floor and got their food. The whole dinning room was open, so family could come visit their loved ones.
