My wife found this amazing steakhouse for her birthday while on vacation in Whistler, BC over the (US) thanksgiving holidays. Their customer service was AMAZING!! My filet was even better. But let's talk about the old fashioned's I had!!! Man it was probably Top-2 all time for me. They make their old fashioned with reposado tequila and whiskey plus they'll smoke it for you!! Had multiple great experiences here during our trip! First time trying the restaurant and we had truffle fries and the Tomahawk for 2 which was cooked perfectly. Our server Chris was awesome and we immediately reserved another visit a few days later which was just as good as the first! We had the grilled octopus, their Halibut dish and the lamb with the sticky date pudding dessert. We were lucky and had the same server, Chris, as on our first visit and he was amazing as always! Very nice meal here, do prepare to fork out some make $$$$. Came here for dinner one night after a long day of riding, and was able to get a reservation. We were seated in the back of the restaurant and our waiter immediately came over to take our order. The menu was pretty extensive with many different choices to cater to everyone. We got the ribeye and the King crab legs to share. One of the cooks actually brought the raw piece of ribeye and cut a piece fresh right in front of us. The ingredients is definitely extremely fresh and of high quality. The desert was very pretty and delicious as well. Our waiter was very attentive and sweet. The whole ambience is upscale, classy and elegant. Our meal was very pricey but to be expected for a restaurant of this caliber and for being in a ski town. Bathrooms are outside of the restaurant in the hotel lobby which is a bit inconvenient. Valet parking is complimentary with validation from the restaurant. read more

My experience may be a bit unique since our large party sat in their private room and we had our own personal waiters so I will do a thorough review on their food. First of all, I have to say that their steak is excellent! They use Canadian AAA Prime beef, which is what Hy's Steakhouse uses as well. All their steaks are served with a small dish of dense caramelized onions, which were probably one of the best onion dishes that I've ever had! My appetizer was a salmon carpaccio with caviar, which tasted very light and elegant. The different dollops of flavoured cream carefully placed around the dish perfectly complemented the raw fish. As for my steak, I had their 14oz rib-eye cooked medium-rare, which was also superb and definitely as good as Hy's and Gotham. We had a variety of side dishes such as mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and lobster mac and cheese. The asparagus was truly cooked to perfection, while the lobster mac and cheese was heavy and decadent. Dessert for me was a black forest cake (that happened to be gluten-free), and was amazing! I normally don't even like black forest cake but the dessert was highly recommended by the waiters so we decided to give it a try. The Grill Room is definitely one of the better steakhouses in Whistler (and Vancouver actually) but the prices are sky high so this is probably one of those restaurants that you would go to celebrate something important! read more

The Grill Room came recommended and it was a true disappointment. To begin with, our reservation was at 7:15 pm and our entree did not arrive at our table until 8:55 pm. Our table was located next to a private seating area that had a large party with loud kids. Not the ambiance you are looking for at a fine dining establishment. We were looking forward to a great steak. Coming from California we have a lot of good steak options like Maestro's and Morton's. I had the 20 oz bone in rib eye and my friend had a filet. Both had no flavor. Our server was good as well as the wine and side dishes. Ultimately our bone in ribeye was removed from the bill and our server arranged a ride back to our hotel for our party. If you want a good steak this is not the place to go. read more

I'll acknowledge the obvious...the Grill Room is expensive. It is Whistler so that's expected. What was unexpected was the quality of the food and the service. We started our meal with oysters on the half shell. They were served with a Caesar mignonette and fresh horseradish. The horseradish was very mild and the mignonette was very light. They were both additive to the oysters flavor without being overwhelming. For my entree I had the dry aged ribeye. It was cut tableside to the desired thickness. I ordered a 14oz cut medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly...juice seared in and pink inside. The aged meat was incredibly tender. The aged beef flavor is deep and rich. Both the tenderness and the flavor stand out vs the typical prime grade ribeye I typically eat. If you love beef, you have to order the aged ribeye. A couple of a la carte sides that go well with the steak are the sautéed mushrooms and the roasted local carrots. The carrots are cooked but still have the characteristic carrot crunch. They are covered in a delicious ginger cashew butter. This is the place to go for a great steakhouse experience while you're in Whistler. read more

This restaurant is in the fairmont hotel. It is fancier but not all people are dressed up. There are actually two restaurants in the one restaurant building which is confusing. So if you're making reservations make sure it's for the right restaurant . King crab legs: these were really good. It's nice that they cut them in half for you so they are easy to eat. They are pretty rich, so sharing them with the table is a good idea. Aged rib eye. A gentlemen comes around and shows you the beef and asks you how much you want. Then he will cut it for you. This was a good piece of meat. It also comes with some type of butter. Lobster Mac and cheese: super rich, also a good idea to share. They are generous with the lobster pieces. Fries: were just ok. Not that crispy. They give you a cotton candy complimentary at the end. It's supposed to look like a snow ball. read more

Worst $400 meal I've ever had. In fact one of the most disappointing meals ever. We spent a few days in Vancouver and a few days in Whistler, and we had planned to have two "nice" meals in Whistler. My girlfriend had never been to something that resembles a steak house so I was really looking forward to showing her a decent experience and sharing a meal on our second night in Canada. Near the end of the dinner I found myself saying "actually this is not what ita supposed to be like. please forget about this one and pretend it never happened". What happened? Well let's start with the basics: my medium rare steak was barely edible. I pointed it out and they were embarrassed but I decided to just eat the rare steak rather than make them recook it. They got my girlfriends order wrong. The 3 apps we ordered were all inedible in different ways: horrendously over salted, or poorly balanced, or overcooked. The wine was decent. The service was bland at best. The restaurant was not super full, this was a weekday during the summer. I have never felt such just sheer disappointment at a meal before. Near the end of our meal I just wanted to pay and leave as fast as possible. Note we stayed and ate at the Fairmont in Vancouver as well so tjis is not a global issue. This is EXTREMELY restaurant specific. The decor was OK. My opinion? Shut this place down and let someone else take a try in the space. It's been 9 months since we are there and it's still strikes me as unbelievable they could simultaneously get so many things wrong in one go. read more

Absolutely phenomenal service and food. My stepdad was a chef and thus instilled in me quite a difficult-to-please palate. This is hands down my new favorite restaurant. The server went above and beyond to accommodate my dairy and fish allergies -he was highly knowledgeable about the menu and alternative options. We waited slightly longer than normal to get our drinks because the bartender was ensuring one of the ingredients was actually dairy free, and our server brought us a bit of champagne to sip on in the meantime- not necessary but so kind. We got the tomato gin soup appetizer for two which was so delicious we got an additional one to take home after the meal. We also got the lamp chops, pork chop, roasted carrots, and brussels sprouts. Absolutely do yourself a favor and get the chimichurri with your meat, my stepdad made one exactly like it and I've never tasted it outside of our kitchen. SO impressed. We came to eat without being super hungry, but everything was so delicious we finished it all and nearly rolled out of the restaurant. The drinks were also, of course, phenomenal. We got a pineapple infused tequila special of the day. And you can finish your bottle of wine across the hall while listening to live music! Having the buffet is always a risk no matter where you are!! I am a loyal Starwood member so I often eat in the hotel. More out of being lazy then anything else. The buffet had a great selection but the food was cold and the eggs were more like grits then fluffy scrambled eggs. Can I give it 10 stars? This place was epic. The corkage fee was reasonable to start, but when you get down to what was offered us (a group of 7 for a bachelor party), the spread was fantastic. From Memory, likely missing something: Buffalo Carpaccio Bison Tartare Oysters Rockefeller Other dishes I cannot recall. Hand-Cut in front of you Dry Aged New York Strip Steak (cooked perfectly rare) Maybe 8 sides, like lobster mac and cheese, vegetables, poutine-style mashed potatoes, etc. Dessert was an Irish Coffee, Shared Flourless Chocolate Cake, and Cotton Candy The waiter gave us many complimentary appetizers, as well as the cotton candy. He decanted and served our wine, and brought our starting cocktails in an astonishingly short amount of time; they were delicious. 7 People, Cocktails, Appetizers, Steak, Coffee/Dessert: $1000 CAD, which is so very cheap coming from a place like Los Angeles. That ended up being around $140 USD a person including tip. A meal like that would cost $250 a person in LA. I'm going up to Whistler again someday soon, and you can bet I'll be there for another meal. read more

The Grill Room was absolute perfection. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and I like it when they recommend dishes, adds a personal touch. The steaks were cooked extremely well and exactly medium-rare which is what I asked for. The sauces which accompanied the steaks were all to die for. We had some cocktails to start of the dinner as well as a bottle of red wine which the server helped us pick as we didn't know too many of the wines from BC. Was a fantastic and enjoyable experience. It was great to have both the manager and executive chef check in with our table through the evening. Went for dinner tonight with our two kids. Our server Mel was good, very attentive even asking if we wanted kid friendly cups for the kids, which is always nice. Lots on the menu. Not cheap as the main entree's didn't include anything, you had to order the sides separately and pay for sauces to add to your dish too. We got a bread basket with various breads: flat crispy type of chip bread with sesame seeds, Rosemary bread and don't recall the last bread, but they were all good. For starters we ordered the Peppered Bison Carpaccio. Wasn't bad, served with lots of greens, so almost like a salad with Carpaccio. Not gamey would rate 7/10. For entree we shared the Venison for 2 ($80) med rare as recommended by our server. Thought it was ok. Not too bad as I wasn't sure if it was going to be gamey. Came out looking like rack of lamb with the bone in. 6 large pieces, but closer to rare than medium rare. I didn't find there was much taste to it, although it was suppose to be juniper berry & thyme infused. There was some dried thyme on the side, but no taste on the meat. Although it wasn't gamey, had an after taste that i wasn't too fond of. we ordered the following sides: 1) Sautéed BC Mushrooms $6 - this was nicely done, enjoyed this 2) Six Qualicum Bay Scallops $15 - wasn't bad, my son enjoyed these 3) Whipped Truffle Potato $8 - wasn't bad, but after having truffles a few times at various places, don't think i'm a big truffle fan. Seemed to be soaked in either butter or truffle oil. We ordered a kids meal, chicken strips $13 with a choice of side and a drink. Chicken strips were good, my daughter liked the potato wedges. She ordered the lemonade at first, but it was sour as they don't seem to sweeten it, so she then asked to swap it for a rasberry drink which she didn't like too much neither as it was basically a perrier type of drink with a hint of raspberry. More something an adult might enjoy. Surprised they offered glutten free pizza on the kids menu, but it only came with tomato and mozza with a side and drink for $13. At the end of the meal we were given a basket with some white cotton candy. Never seen a pure white one, it didn't taste like other cotton candy, just tasted like pure sugar (not that cotton candy isn't pure sugar, but when you usually buy them at a fair, etc, it usually has some other tastes to it. I'd rate it a 5/10 compared to "regular" cotton candy you buy. Before we left we were also presented with carrot cake and pumpkin seeds which was given complements of the chef to all dinner guests. Disappointing! We had a large group here for a celebration dinner. The place looked and felt amazing. The night started off fine with Great service with initial Wine service and first course appetizers. It went way down hill from there. Everyone of our Main courses at two tables of 12 was "Cold" and not prepared to the correct doneness. It was a disaster. They took everyone's entree's back to the kitchen and redid them all again, I'm talking, all 24! When they arrived back, 30 minutes later many were either raw or over cooked. It was a disaster. There is a reason this restaurant is rated with 5 stars. You will want for nothing and feel like a royal guest. I would have appreciate it if someone would have informed me no ski pants at a ski resort when I made the reservations. We had a family dinner on Dec 30. Our waiter Alex was very friendly and helpful explaining the menu. We ordered the prime rib eye which was custom cut table side. We were a bit surprised seeing the large slab of meat :) We also had the tenderloin steak, sablefish, scallop appetizer, elk tartare, lobster mac and cheese, poutine mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and kale, market vegetables. Everything (seafood and beef) was cooked to perfection. Flavours were nice, but overall meal was a bit heavy. For dessert, we had apple cake with eggnog ice cream and salt caramel sundae.
