Good service, casual dining venue in the heart of Whistler village. Called to make reservations and got one right away. Second floor so you have to walk 21 steps to upstairs. Hostess and servers are very nice and accommodating. Food Menu is relatively simple but got enough choices for most people , drink menu is extensive. Water is refilled readily. Ambiance is noisy but that is good for chatting after a day of shredding snow. We ordered local (BC) draft pale ale and lager to go with rib eye, lamb shank , short rib and 21 salads with warm bread and butter. The side veggies are the same baby carrots green been and broccoli. Lamb came with rice, others came with mashed potatoes. Lamb is fall-of-the bone good but short rib and steak are below average. Salad and warm bread are at the good mark. I had a nice dinner at 21 Steps Kitchen & Bar in Whistler (yep there really are 21 star steps to the second floor) and would definitely recommend it for a cozy night out. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between casual and upscale with warm wood accents, soft lighting, and big windows that overlook the village give it a welcoming alpine feel (try to get a window seat). I ordered the salmon, which was nicely cooked with a crisp sear on the outside and tender, flaky flesh inside. The seasoning was good, letting the freshness of the fish shine without overpowering it. The sides were equally well done, with vibrant veggies and a light, flavorful sauce that tied the dish together. Went here for BF's birthday. Acoustics I. The Attic make conversations loud. The folks at the bar talking to the bartender were really loud. We ordered the Riblwrs and Mussels for Appetizers and the braised short rib and BC LingCod. All were generous portions and delicious. Service was a bit slow as there was only one service. Food was good but overpriced. I ordered the lamb shank and my friend had the New York strip steak. The lamb came with a sauce that was very bland, at a minimum it needed salt. It was served with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli/carrots. The cocktails were well made but also over priced. The ambiance was nice, service was excellent and our waiter was extremely professional, friendly and knew the menu inside and out. This place was recommended by the bartender at Stinky's (just down the street) as a favorite place for locals. If I had to do the evening all over again, I would have stayed at Stinky's and had dinner there. read more

Kind of an upscale steakhouse feel with good all-around food, friendly service and decent cocktails. We came here as a family for a nice meal out while skiing at Whistler and this didn't disappoint although it wasn't a knockout either. The food selection was broad and pretty good. My daughter got pasta and she can be picky. My son (who can also be picky) loved the filet mignon. I got the salmon and my wife got the beef short rib. It was all good, but none of it really blew us away and the price tag of CA$250 for a drink, four entrees and a dessert was pretty pricey. Still as a resort town vacation dinner out, it wasn't bad. My wife also got the old man winter cocktail, which was a well-above average old fashioned. The family shared the Belgian chocolate brownie with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and peanut brittle. The brownie was really quite good and dark chocolate vs. something sweeter and less bitter. The caramel and the peanut brittle upped the ante some as well. It was a dessert worth splurging on. The bad parts were parking and that everything was incredibly salty. Parking I guess isn't their fault, but it's still annoying. We first hoped to be able to take the bus into the village, but the bus didn't show up for 30 minutes and we bailed only to see it drive by as we walked away. Then we had to park in one of the lots on the edge of the village and walk over. read more

That is our fault but luckily we still held onto the table. I was so grateful for their kindness and professionalism. Our waitress was also amazing. Super attentive and gave us great recommendations. The pork shoulder pasta is creamy with juicy pork meat that pairs well together. The red curry mussels were shared as an appetizer and we drank every last bit. We even ordered french fries to dip them in. The fries (no picture) are perfectly sized and super crispy. Their other side options were mashed potatoes or veggies and honestly they were all great. To finish off the night we shared a blueberry cheesecake and it was the perfect end to this lovely dinning experience. **also not pictured by the bison and salmon were also amazing choices. This restaurant was recommended to us as a "'must try" from a server at another restaurant while in Whistler. The salmon main was really yummy and worth the trip just for that dish. The bacon wrapped fillet appetizer was really fatty and I had a bit of a hard time with the meat. My husband liked the fried goat cheese but wasn't crazy about his main dish. We had another appetizer I can't recall which one. My children had ice cream. They didn't have a kids menu when we were there, so the kids had ice cream as the menu wasn't really suited for them. We were sat upstairs, mostly alone, so it was kind of weird and felt like we were in an attic and all the action was taking place downstairs. Totally fine, would possibly go again read more

They state that they keep 1/3 of the restaurant available to walk-ins, so we were able to get a seat at the bar. We ordered off the prix fixe menu. The best dishes were the appetizers - the fried chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside, and the chili prawns had excellent flavor. The main dishes were HUGE portions, and reminded me of catered wedding dishes. The chocolate brownie dessert was great, although they had to bring out this dish 3 times before finally getting it right (without nuts due to an allergy). I would skip the chocolate mousse and raspberry sorbet - the mousse tasted more like supermarket pudding. Great food paired with even better service is hard to top. We started with the 21 Steps salad and the goat cheese stood out. Any critique we could serve up on the salad was quelled by the goat cheese. Add more of this or that... doesn't matter. Goat cheese rocked. Mains were the also great. Get the prawns and scallops with mash because you have to sop up as much of that sauce as possible because it's amazing. Our waitress recommended it to me when I asked if I should go seafood or steak. More on her soon. The bolognese was well constructed. Got it with penne but don't do that. It was still great, good penne, but it needs pappardelle; they make it so get it with that. Drinks are spot on. Our server was top notch. I'd go back even if the food was junk if she was serving. Best way to describe it is that she treated us like we were having a meal she made for us at her house, and we were friends. Seems she was covering the entire upstairs as well without stress. Came in for our Thanksgiving Dinner and it did not disappoint! While we didn't opt for the traditional meal, which they had as an offer, we thoroughly enjoyed our salmon and pastas. I ordered the smoked chicken pasta (minus the bell peppers because of an allergy) and it was fantastic. My kiddos smashed on the noodles and tomato sauce, and my husband said the salmon was one of the best he'd ever had. The portions were very generous but we were hungry so it was appreciated. And the crème brûlée was perfection! The atmosphere was great, we got a nice booth, and the staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. We made reservations for a Saturday night at 7:15. We arrived at around 7 and luckily, they were able to seat us a bit early. If you can avoid it, try not to sit near the window at this time (at least during the summer). This is when the sun is going down, and those seats get VERY hot, even with the shades drawn. But onto the food. To start, we had the bacon wrapped beef filets (with horseradish aioli). The beef normally would have been too overcooked for me, but since I'm pregnant and need to eat well done steak anyway, it was fine. The horseradish aioli was a nice touch. For my entrée, I had the Shellfish Pasta (prawns, scallops and mussels in a white wine, fennel clam nectar sauce). You can choose from penne or linguine. I wish there were more options, but it was fine. To be honest, I was expecting the dish to be basic but I actually really liked it. The prawns and scallops were cooked perfectly and were nice and plump. It was also a huge portion. Hubby had the Baby Back Ribs, which comes with your choice of fries, baked potatoes, or mashed potatoes. The best part about the dish were the fries but overall, it was pretty mid. The ribs tasted old, like they had been reheated. Although, they were very nice because he had just went to the restroom as the food was coming out and they asked if we wanted them to keep his plate warm for the time being. Overall, it seems like some dishes are hit or miss but the prices are very reasonable, considering how expensive everything is in Whistler in general. read more

The service here was really great, especially for a larger and rowdier group. You can definitely expect to quality service visiting here. The menu was briefer, they had a separate desert menu and a separate drink menu. The drink menu was quite large, and they do have signature cocktails. All of the cocktails sampled were a bit too heavy handed for us. For example, the fig and absinthe one tasted more like the alcohol and lemon instead. This was in the top 2 meals I've had in Whistler! I've heard great things about this place over the years and was happy I finally got to try it, luckily on a day they had a couple specials. Sunday through Thursday they have buy two small plates and get one Plate free or a few course meal (1 main 1 small dish and 1 dessert or coffee for $44 which is a steal). Everything we tried had good flavor though some things were a little over cooked but for the price and quality, I was very pleased. My mussels had a great flavor and came with a side of bread to top up the broth. So good. Pork riblets were a little overcooked and on the dry side, but was still enjoyed and had good flavor. I got the short rib which was tender, and a HUGE portion and came with some nice veggies and mashed potatoes. I was so full from the small plates that I couldn't finish this but I had enough left over for another meal. The bison steak was hit or miss - the thickness of the cut varied from thin (overcooked and rubbery) and super thick (very very rare) but the middle was a good medium rare.. It came with the same veggies as my short rib and the flavors grew on us with every bite. Desserts: creme brulee was standard and good. But the brownie stole the show. I am normally not a chocolate nor brownie fan but the waitress recommended it so had to try it and we both agreed it was the best brownie we've ever had. It had great texture, was crisp on the outside and light vs dense, had great flavor especially with the peanut brittle at the base of it and of course made even better with some ice cream. We ordered the New York steak, pot roast and 21 salad. All were good and would definitely eat it again, however food was not comparable to a typical steakhouse when the food was priced similarly. Do make sure you book at least a day in advance or you'll be eating at 9pm, unless you're up for bar seating as they have limited walk in. There's an array of interesting options on the menu. We had beef sirloin wrapped in bacon and chili prawns with a chimichurri sauce and wonton crisps for starters along with the half chicken dish and pork schnitzel. The chicken was really good, juicy, tender and full of flavor. Pork schnitzel was tasty too, stuffed with cheese, apple and arugula.
