The project was delayed 6 weeks after the original placement of concrete stakes and forms due to the City of Dublin electrical inspection. The delay was unfortunate but entirely common when city inspections are required. However, at least 3 weeks of the delay was due to Custom Concrete not returning my calls or prioritizing my project. After the concrete was poured, Custom Concrete placed a sealer that bubbled all over the entire patio the next day. As a customer, I understand that problems sometimes occur and perfection is unrealistic. Therefore, I allowed this company to make it right without paying them the final payment installment. After trying to use another chemical to remove the bubbles, the concrete looked completely uneven with large dark and light differences. At that time, the owner (Art) agreed to completely reseal the patio. After waiting 3 days to see if the new sealer would bubble and assurance from Art that it was "highly unlikely" to happen again, I paid my bill in full. About 2 weeks after the second sealer was installed, the bubbles returned in large patches. When I contacted Art, he suggested I wait a couple YEARS to allow the sun to wear off the defective sealer or contact the sealer manufacturer myself. I agreed to let this company walk away from this defective project if they were willing to compensate me in order to hire a competent concrete company to fix it. I asked Art to give me a fair refund amount and he told me to "keep dreaming." In addition to this company's complete lack of concrete knowledge, Art is the most unprofessional business owner I've ever encountered. Reviews from other sites say the same thing.

The lead painter was amazing. While on stilts, he painted a perfect freehand edge at the top of every wall. Freehand! When we made suggestions or requests, they were more than happy to comply. That said, the quality of the job done at my new house was so poor that I was compelled to give the public my experience of 5 Star's service quality for our property in the western suburbs of Columbus. I'll lead with the positives because it wasn't all bad. They were responsive and quite friendly with my wife (who handled the majority of the scheduling) while we were setting up the consultation. They were flexible with our times, and the site/project manager himself (Cole) was great to work with. He was flexible, heard our concerns after the fact, and did his best to fix them. We have no qualms with him or his attempts to rectify our situation. All that being said, this was the poorest paint job I've ever seen, and I used to paint interiors to pay for my schooling. I've seen slop jobs before and this was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Just to name a few of the issues... 1. Sanding dust was EVERYWHERE in our house upon moving in. No one cleaned it up after they finished, on either of our floors. Scratch that...my wife cleaned it up during our move in. Basic sanding rule is that you clean up the dust afterwards. Especially when it's not your house and you're doing a job for someone else. They didn't, so we had to breathe that stuff while our boxes were coming in. 2. There was paint dripping in every room. This is no exaggeration. I'm talking about our stove, outlets, bathroom floors, office carpet, curtain rods, etc. You name it and chances are it had paint dripping on it. 3. Clumped paint in the upstairs hallway, meaning rather than changing the can out they opted to scrape the bottom of the barrel. 4. Evidence of either poor/no taping around the edges, paint dripping onto several outlets. These are only to name a few of the things we had to deal with. We had them come back and fix whatever we could find on short notice, and to be fair they did try to correct some of the issues. But several weeks out we are still finding problems. Entirely unacceptable. Over this entire episode I started losing track of the issues at around #29-30. It would be comical if it weren't so infuriating. I have no idea what the problem was or why there was such a breakdown of quality control. But whatever it was, it should never have been our problem to deal with. We paid several grand for this job and, to be frank, I could have hired a few HS students from the school down the road for half that and they would have done a better job. Avoid this paint company. First of all, we were on a very tight schedule and needed to get our inspection done quickly. The inspector, Josh, came in on a Sunday afternoon and did a very thorough inspection. He talked to me throughout so I always knew what he was doing and why he was doing it. He also gave me a lot of recommendations for things to make our condo more user-friendly. He answered all of my questions and explained things to me in a way that I could understand with my very limited knowledge of all things related to the construction and inner-workings of a home. We had blocked out a time for roughly four hours but because our condo was pretty small, it didn't take Josh that long. In light of this, Josh readjusted the price so I ended up paying less than I expected. He also explained other available services but was very upfront with me about them not being necessary for my particular unit in an effort to save me money and not waste any of my time. I really appreciate that this is a company who is honest and fair and not out to take advantage of people like me who are clueless when it comes to this field. Finally, Josh was super diligent in getting home and getting our report written up and submitted so that we were able to make our closing on time. Everything easy to read and the report included very clear pictures that helped us know what steps we needed to take. If we move down the road, I'll definitely call By-Lions for the Home Inspection and will be recommending them to anyone I know who is buying a house.
