I was honestly surprised by the size of this gym! The pics online and the view of it from the outside are very unassuming, but I was finally able to check it out today. There are plenty of cardio machines (treadmills, bikes, elliptical, stairmaster), barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, and a separate yoga room. There are also showers in the locker room! I switched over to the gym after moving into a nearby apartment and walking to the gym (which I always prefer) was way more inconvenient with my original gym. The gym overall is very well maintained, always kept clean (bathroom is surprisingly well kept for a gym) and weights are usually where they should be. Theres plenty of towels and also disinfectant to wipe down equipment. The staff are friendly and pretty attentive as well always greeting as you come and go. I do have to ding one star in the fact that while their machine variety is good, there's only one of each except for the cable machines and racks which means if you want a specific machine you'll usually have to wait unless you come way off peak hours. read more

I've been going to this gym for close to five years now. I love it because it's a manageable crowd - it never feels too full, no matter what time you go. Also, there's towel service included and nice changing areas w nice showers with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Love this place Did three days of guest pass they have great weights areas which I spent lots of time at and I love their cardio area I did a day of cross training and they had great elliptical assortment. Every day they were clean and not over crowded. I actually miss it but don't live nearby but can't wait to go back when needed $25 for a day pass is really worth it! read more

I've been coming to this gym for a couple of weeks now and every time without a doubt my WiFi does not work and it ruins my workout. I would not resort to leaving a review usually, but the staff is extremely unhelpful with the WiFi and cold. Others have complained about the same issue with the WiFi. Disappointed with the gym's customer service, I explained my health condition and asked for a reasonable extension on my freeze or to accept cancellation. Compared with the other gym, that in this situation asks you to provide proof and then cancel your membership, they just refused. It feels like they care more about money than members' well-being. I came to this gym thinking I was in "decent" shape. I left realizing I've been lifting my grocery bags wrong for years. From the moment I walked in, I knew this wasn't your average gym. There ARE scented towels, no smoothie bar, and definitely no one taking mirror selfies while holding a single dumbbell. This is a place where people grunt like they're in a medieval battle, sweat drips like it's trying to escape, and gym-goers communicate in head nods and protein shakes. My trainer, Kay, is part coach, part personal motivator, and possibly a retired superhero. They somehow convinced me that doing burpees was a good idea (it was not), and that lifting something heavy for fun would "change my life" (it did, but mostly because I now have to roll out of bed in the morning like a turtle stuck on its back). If you want a gym where no one judges you, but everyone encourages you--sometimes loudly--this is the place. Just be prepared for sore muscles, the inability to walk properly after leg day, and the sudden urge to own more tank tops. 10/10 would suffer again. read more

if I could give this gym 100 stars, I would! If you live in West LA and you're looking for a great gym, this is the spot! I've been a member for almost a year now and I can honestly say this place is the perfect gym for both the individual who is just getting started and the individual who's more advanced. The staff is incredibly helpful, courteous, the gym is clean, it never gets too busy, and the other gym members are respectful. This is a neighborhood gym, and it feels like it, but it's got all the bells and whistles you could want from a commercialized gym. Plus, they have private trainers who are super nice, knowledgeable and available for personal sessions! I've actually been training with Russ and I'm super pleased with my body transformation! The manager, Jen, is so sweet and helpful. She's the kind of person that genuinely cares about you. When I originally came in for some information, she showed me the entire space, walked me around, and I got a complimentary day pass to try out the gym since I'm a local resident. Parking is easy as well. There's a garage right behind the gym! I come in for the pump, and I stay for the people!! Seriously, could not speak more highly of this place. read more

Since my gym of three years is closing at the end of this month, I've been on a tour of other workout options in search of finding my new workout home. So, I'm comparing several and finding it to be fun and eye-opening. That said, I was not impressed with The Gym LA. Despite favorable reviews, I just don't see the attraction. It's a small space with limited free weights and equipment. While they do have a bench press, there is no incline bench or decline bench. Pretty standard stuff. The workaround here is to re-imagine what's typically a set-up for legs (squats), and rotate an adjustable bench to accommodate incline and and decline. Hassle. Plus there's only one of these adjustable benches. I also found it a little disconcerting that with the weights, there are no less than three different brands all mingled in together. I'm accustomed to keeping apples with apples, so to speak, in order to assure that the weights being used are absolutely going to be equal to each other. On the plus side, they have some showers and small locker room. Also an adjacent indoor garage. The staff I spoke with on the phone and in person were friendly. I just wish it would be easier to actually workout here. If you do decide to try The Gym LA, you are given a three day (consecutive) pass. As I've been trying out other gyms, three days seems a tad skimpy - but is certainly something. Though historically, I haven't taken many classes, their schedule is almost non-existent. Like a class a day sort of thing. Price at The Gym LA sounds pretty good - as long as you're OK with what you are and are not getting. read more

This is probably one of my favorite gyms I have worked out in LA. Of course, there are many many gyms in LA but I have worked out in quite a few in the West LA area. Keep in mind that this is a local neighborhood gym so it will be different from those big box gyms. Some of the good things about this gym -It's always pretty clean and I always see a cleaning staff cleaning around the gym. This is HUGE. There are always cleaning wipes available. The bathroom is pretty clean too. A clean gym makes me always want to go back and overall I just feel better working out at a cleaner gym. -It's never too packed. While of course, sometimes during peak hours it gets busy but generally it is fine. - It has basically all the equipment you will need. There are squat racks, deadlift platforms, punches bags, free weights, machines, and a good selection of cardio machines. - Most of the people there are people who work there including the trainers are quite polite and friendly (shout out to Oscar who always greets me and has a smile on his face whenever I go to the gym). - Free parking at the adjacent lots - Available on ClassPass - Free Towel Service If you are wondering if there is anything "bad" about the gym, it will sound a bit nitpicking, but I will include them just for your reference. - The two squat racks inside of the room where are deadlift platforms are are a bit flimsy. I see people using weights there so I think it should be fine but the weights are literally held by two screws (?) and the racks look a bit worn down. While it is still useable for sure, it will be great if they upgrade them one day. The squat rack outside looks a lot more sturdy though. - While most of their machines are functional, a few of them are a bit weird. For example, the leg press muscle was not that intuitive, the seated cable row machine's cable is thick which is different from what I usually see, and for one of the cable machines close to the free weight area, you have to turn the switch left or right (forgot which way) to get the "real" weight. It is hard to explain and you will see what I mean when you see it but overall they are fine. read more

UPDATE: I had correspondence with the owners who were actually very pleasant and understanding. I stand by my experience below however with Jen. I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a manager or establishment. I'm appalled and surprised, and would never recommend this place to anyone. New to the area I joined classpass looking for a new gym to call home. I walked in after biking there 5 miles, mistakenly forgot my bike lock, politely asked if I could keep my bike up front for the hour I was going to work out. The front desk worker said she'd have to ask her manager. The manager Jen comes up - not just *not* smiling - but visibly pissed. Right off the bat. Not a "hi how are you" -- nothing. I nicely asked if I could please keep my bike up front as I simply forgot a lock and I didn't feel comfortable leaving it on the sidewalk. She said no because that means they'd have to do that for everyone. I said I understood but could she make a one time exception so I could enjoy the gym and facilities. you'd think as a gym trying to win new customers, you'd offer them other options - e.g. "we can keep it in the back as a one-time courtesy." Nothing. She was not only not helpful, but she went completely out of her way to be one of the rudest humans I've ever encountered, when I did nothing to even prompt such behavior. When I called later to ask her for her bosses information, she hung up on me. I've literally never been in this situation - I'm a happy go lucky normal person - to enter an establishment excited to try it out and work out, and be treated how I was there out of the blue and for no reason is shocking and unacceptable. If I was a business owner I would be mortified with this type of behavior from a manager. read more

The gym itself is perfectly fine. Spacious, functional equipment, towel service. A bit expensive, but nice. But then I missed two months of payment, which was partly my fault and partly due to pandemic issues. Then, with no warning and within weeks, The Gym sold this 'debt' to a collection company, which tried to charge me three-and-a-half times what I 'owed'. I payed another company to resolve this, which wound up being about the same amount of money I 'owed' The Gym in the first place. A simple email or text informing me that if I don't pay they'll sell to a debt collector would have sufficed. Or they could just... not sell a couple months missed payment to a debt collector in the middle of a pandemic. read more

I'd been going to the gym for four years before the pandemic hit, and I was planning to return in the future. Four years of paying their $50 annual fee plus $60 in monthly dues. Of course, I'll never step foot in there again. They: - Reinstated my account after multiple messages from myself and my trainer telling them to keep my account frozen. - Threatened to call collections from their first communication. - Never responded to my or my trainer's phone calls trying to work out the situation. - Selectively responded to email. - Required a certified letter in order to cancel. When the post office lost my original letter, I tried to contact them to see if there was some way I could close my account before another bogus billing cycle hit. No response, so I was forced to overnight them a second letter. In the end I paid them their claimed $134 for the two months they unfroze my account plus late fees. It was clear they had no interest in discussing it or keeping me as a customer. As for Jennifer... I believe her responses to customer complaints here on Yelp say it all. The shame here is that the gym itself is fine. The men's locker room always had a terrible smell and there were some basic repairs/replacements around the gym that frustratingly never got done. But overall my experience was decent. However, their behavior over the pandemic made it clear that they'll squeeze you at every opportunity they have. They proved that when they asked who wanted their account frozen last June and then reinstated them all anyway, and they proved it again this summer. This is how a loyal customer was treated. I advise you to stay away. read more

Also they combined the restrooms with locker rooms in same space and because of that when ever you go to change clothes you have to smell the shit and pee!
