OK, those of you scouring the web for reviews about hair extensions, color specialist, or all things hair, your work is done. I was in your same shoes about 6 months ago and I can honestly tell you...Lauren is THE BEST. I too scoured the web/yelp/reviews for hair extensions experts. I was even willing to accept that I might have to find two hairstylists: one for color (I'm blonde and super picky about color- not too ashy, not too yellow, please not trashy...) and cut and then a second one for extensions. I have had extensions before and, while I liked them, i was constantly paranoid that people could tell they were fake. Plus, I'm pretty active and extensions usually just did not hold up to my lifestyle. After reading the reviews of Lauren's work, I decided to give them a shot again and I am SO GLAD I did in her capable hands! My experience: I went to Lauren and aired my issues: (1) color wasn't where I wanted it; (2) my hair tends to frizz and I was worried about it blending with extensions as it "poofed" in the SF dampness; (3) I wasn't sure about extensions, but I wanted more volume to make my scraggly ends look healther. Lauren hit all three of these issues out of the park! She nailed my color (I've been coloring my hair for over 13 years and have never had someone get it so spot on the first time). In answer to my "less frizz, please, I'd like to air dry my hair on occasion without looking like a muppet" she used a mild straightening solution on my hair that's not as aggressive as a full brazilian blowout, but calmed all my crazy cowlicks and kinks. And then, after careful consideration of which type/style of extensions would be best for my lifestlye, she carefully and tediously applied extensions to fill out my hair and give it some more length. The result? People...for real...I can wash my hair, air dry it and have beautiful, natural flowing locks with just a little bit of wave. She is unreal. Of course I can style my hair just like a would otherwise as well and it looks bombshell awesome. I seriously wanted to cry after the first week - I spend about 20% of the time on my hair that I used to and it looks 1000% better than when i would style it before Lauren worked on it. The girl is magic. A little more on the extensions: you cannot see these things! I run, swim, bike, hike...all with a ponytail etc. In the past, I always had to do some sort of magic with my hair to hide the extensions and even then it was inevitable you'd see a few. Not these! And they blend perfectly. I can almost always spot extensions on others just because the hair quality is hard to blend, but I swear, Lauren knows her hair and knows her stuff and NO ONE - not even my MOM - can tell I have them! Beyond that, Lauren has her own station set up to the side in her salon in its own private area so you don't have to be the freak show in the middle of the room getting hair stuck to your head while everyone surrounds you asking questions (ya, been there). The girl is detail oriented and your look will benefit from it, I promise! Aside from skills, she is super professional and takes her work very seriously. She is not just about having loyal clients - she is about building her brand and business. The girl is SMART when it comes to staying at the top of her game on serivces and this is what sets her apart. She is also amazing at customer service - I had a few follow-up questions the first few weeks after my extensions were applied ("can I use Morrocan oil still?" "should I be using a round brush??") and she gave me her number to text and replied within seconds every time. i even decided I wanted a few more layers after the first few days and she fit me in ASAP to get the extensions exactly where I wanted them to be (no charge, of course). COME ON..who provides service like that anymore??? I absolutely cannot say enough about Lauren. Whether you're looking for cut, color or extensions, she goes out of her way to give the best service to all of her clients. I've NEVER met a hairdresser that takes her business as seriously as she does and I appreciate it so much as a client - she seriously has stepped up the game for any hairdresser I will ever go to moving forward. I just hope I never have to move because I don't think I could replace her!! If you're luck enough to live in SF - GO TO LAUREN! You will not regret it! read more

I regret to say that my experience with Lauren, The Hair Extensions Expert, was disappointing. Although she presents herself as a professional, her conduct and results did not align with her stated experience or the reviews that led me to book with her. The workmanship was substandard. In light of how expensive her services are, I expected a higher level of skill and care and to be treated with common courtesy at a bare minimum. Instead, the service felt rushed and careless, and her demeanor made it seem as though she were doing me a favor rather than providing a service I was paying for. Throughout the appointment she was distracted, frequently checking her phone, and responded to my questions in a curt and dismissive way. It was clear that not all clients are treated with the same professionalism or respect, and my time and presence were not valued. I am an actual paying client and have documentation to confirm it. While she may view things differently, this review accurately reflects my experience so that others can make an informed decision before booking. read more

Lauren Mae is fantastic. I have thin fine hair and was nervous about getting extensions having had a bad experience with braid-in ones many years ago. She talked me through the whole process, and the reasons behind why we should go with tape in extensions, and patiently answered all my questions. She was realistic about what I could expect in terms of price and results. I love love love how it turned out. My fine 'nothing' hair, which before my extensions needed tons of product and hours of effort and styling to look like anything at all now looks amazing all the time with way less effort. It looks completely natural - even my mother thought my hair had grown quickly, rather than having extensions added. And it is so so beautiful. I finally have the hair I always wanted, and I am so grateful to Lauren for her professional, sensitive and caring approach. I highly recommend her. read more

When I mentioned wanting more length, Jenna had nothing but fantastic things to say about her work and even showed me some pictures of all the hair extensions before I booked my appointment! Lauren is amazing! I was hesitant to get a topper when I saw Lauren for the first time about 6 months ago, so she recommended I start off with hair fibers. A few weeks ago, I decided to finally get a topper and wish I would have done it sooner! Lauren was able to color match the topper to my natural hair to make it look seamless. I usually go 3 months between root touch up because I don't have a ton of grays yet; that is how long it takes for the amount of gray I have to "bother" me. With Katya it was the first time I couldn't find even a single gray hair after the root touch up! Usually I find at least a few hairs that got missed, so I was really amazed she covered every single gray! On black hair it's easy to see if any grays are missed so I was like WOW, Katya did the best job ever! She will be my go-to stylist for my root touch ups now! And I think I will go more often like every 8 weeks at least because it really is a nice confidence boost to have your roots freshly done! Katya is also just so pleasant to be around, she is so kind and has a lovely personality. I also have the unlimited blowout membership which is seriously the best deal in town! I don't need to wash my own hair anymore! I usually get a blowout twice a week, sometimes 3 times. Amazing if your schedule allows you to be in the salon often, especially for women who are busy with their careers. I can work on my laptop while getting my hair blow dried and curled! Sometimes two girls will be blow drying my hair at the same time while I'm working - major boss babe vibes! LOL. The blowout membership is only for level 2 and below stylists though, which Katya has graduated beyond. But many of the other girls do great blowouts too. During my consultation Tyler explained for the length I had I would need more hair that usual, and she got to color matching my grown out, red/brown hair I felt was going to be impossible to match. Somehow Tyler got a perfect blend of colors to match!! We scheduled the install and got to work. The install experience was so, so, so good! Really have never had such a relaxing, laid back hair appointment. Her studio is beautiful and just has the most welcoming vibe, and Tyler makes sure you feel comfortable. She started off with a trim to ensure the extensions would blend well into my natural hair. As she started installing the extensions, she made sure to check in and ask if they were feeling comfortable throughout. During our lunch break she included a mimosa & charcuterie board snack! Such a sweet addition to the service. When we got back to the install and she worked her way to the front, I noticed her sectioning was perfect before she placed down the tape ins. This was super impressive to me!! I've had horror stories with other hair stylists who do a sloppy job just to get done quicker, but not Tyler. She pays extra attention to detail and when asked she explains from a customer point of view, and how uncomfortable it could get for the customer when their hair is not done properly. When she got to styling, before she even blended my extensions in, I was already impressed. The color match was CRAZY and after all the hair I needed, it surprisingly felt super comfortable. She got to work on blending in the extensions with my short, shoulder length hair and then styled it. I could not believe it when she was done, felt like a whole new person. Tyler really gave me the perfect mermaid/victorias secret model hair of my dreams!! I'm so in love and excited to go back in a few weeks for my next session.

Her technique weaves colors around your natural hair so as it grows out it still look great. I could go 10 to 12 weeks. I always asked why can't I just do all over color. She would tell me you won't be happy. You will see the grow out right away. Well she let me do it. It's been 4 weeks and I feel like I needed to freshen up a week ago. Well next time I see her, we will come up with a plan to transition back to low maintenance. Over time I am even thinking of transitioning to no color just to see.
