Each of us was pampered and "prettified" in a friendly atmosphere. Giselle worked on my hair. This was the most painless shampoo I've had in a salon. No pulling. No scratching. Then came the Straight Up blowout which resulted in a sleek, stylish look. Giselle's personality added so much to the experience. Thank you! The weekend weather in Boston was raw and windy, but my Drybar look was beautiful throughout. What a great experience provided by this location in Back Bay!

I live in Los Angeles but was in town just for the wedding, and I've gotten blowouts at multiple Drybars around the country, so I knew what the service was supposed to entail. Well, I don't know why this shop has received so many bad reviews, because our services were INCREDIBLE. My stylist (Emily) and my mom's stylist (Giselle) both made our hair look absolutely gorgeous. I got the Manhattan and my mom got the Straight Up, and both were executed to perfection. Our stylists were fun and personable, super kind, and very talented. They put us at ease and we had the best time chatting while they did our hair. I have A LOT of hair and it can take over an hour to blow it out and flat iron it. Emily got it done flawlessly in 50 minutes! I also noticed GORGEOUS curls she'd done for the girl before me, so it wasn't just me who got great hair that day. My one note would be to ask how I wanted my hair washed at the shampoo bowl. This was actually the only time I've been to a Drybar where I wasn't asked if I wanted one or two shampoos and if I wanted conditioner on my roots. But since Emily made my hair look so amazing anyway, it's not a big deal -- just something I think should be done before washing. Overall we were both thrilled with our blowouts and the service provided by Emily, Giselle, and the receptionist up front. We couldn't have asked for anything more!

If I could give negative stars, I would! I just read a…read more1-star review from 2017, and my experience was almost identical 9 years later! I can't understand how they're still in business! Horror show times 100! I arrived at my appt 10 minutes early, and was taken 60 minutes late! Why does a customer need to ask repeatedly, "How much longer?" Why isn't customer service proactively providing an explanation? Reassurance, maybe? I suppressed my outrage, because I just wanted my hair done without attitude. When I finally got to the sink, I thought, okay, now I can relax. Well, that thought quickly evaporated. Scalding water turned freezing, back to scalding. And the stylist must have put honey in my hair because it felt like she was ripping it out with water running through it! I don't have a sensitive scalp, and an experience like this has NEVER happened to me before. I asked her 3x to be gentler, and she dismissed me while joking around with the stylist next to her. Unfortunately, the unpleasantness (and pain!) didn't end with the wash. While in the chair, I had to tell her to take the hot iron out of my hair because she left it in so long while she took a phone call, I was sure a chunk of my hair would fall out. Besides the inexcusable lateness, the plumbing situation that goes unfixed, the rough handling, and the personal calls being taken with a hot iron in the stylist's hand, the salon was freezing, the music blasting louder than a club, it was without a doubt the worst salon experience of my lifetime. This is the first negative review I've ever written, for any establishment, in any industry. I honestly walked out to my car in tears, because after a hard day at work and thinking I'd sink into a salon chair and relax for an hour, I came away feeling assaulted.

Amazing team and GREAT service! Such a great addition to Derby St. the staff is such a good time !read more

I am very disappointed with our latest trip to Dry Bar. My cousin got married on Friday and so I…read moremade two appointments - one for me and one for my sister. We first sat for a consult and my sister was very clear about she wanted. I was a little more laid back - I even told the woman, "I trust you" after telling her that I wanted, "volume that would last all night - but I don't want to look like Dolly Parton" (not that there's anything wrong with that look... not for me). I never should have told her I trusted her. That's on me. Anyways, we went back to get our hair washed and my sister and I hadn't really begun to talk - then the gossip between the stylists begun. They talked and talked and talked about their boyfriends, what their plans were for that evening, and how excited they were to be done with our hair so they could enjoy the sushi that awaited them in the break room. I don't get to see my sister often so I was really looking forward to enjoying this hair appointment to catch up. That didn't happen at all. My personal hair stylist's boyfriend came into the shop and took her keys. It was clear he was doing a diagnostic on her car. He kept going and coming. He took 3 sets of keys and did 3 different checks on different stylist's cars. This strange 3rd party character was off putting to say the least. They kept yelling across the salon to him when he was inside and talking about him while he was outside. Total middle school girl gossip during a $59 blowout (x2). It then became apparent to me that my stylist's plan for the evening was more important than my hair. I asked for volume - she used rollers. Rollers need hours to set in order to curl. She should have used a curling iron on my hair. Especially after telling her my hair doesn't typically hold a curl. I told her I wanted volume. My hair came out pin straight. She asked me if I like it and I said yes because if i told her the truth, we would have been late to the wedding. I didn't have time to listen to more gossip, debate prices, or get my hair done a second time. I had to ask her for a middle part because she parted my hair on the left without asking. Then when I got home I saw she hadn't even parted the entire center. I had to fix the part so it was straight. I was so mad I didn't get their names but we tipped them via Venmo (they asked us too - sketchy?! Isn't this a nationwide chain? Why are we using Venmo at all?) so I do have those records. Totally disappointed. BUT still have a 20% tip. Left 5 pictures of STRAIGHT hair. No volume at all. Don't visit this location. Total waste of money.

Everytime I get my hair done, stylists never fail to mention how much hair I have and it always sounds like an issue to them. Another thing, when I asks for blowouts I want volume and curls but with only blow dry, no tools and I've never been very successful at getting that at other places. Lashana did THAT and even more, I couldn't have been happier with the result. This woman deserves a damn RAISE, love it so much I've been talking about it all day. I showed her my reference photo and since it only showed the back I explained how the front should be. She then proceeded to tell me she was only going to do it how the photo looked, so I figured it would turn out just fine...it didn't. Once she had finished I was beyond disappointed and heartbroken, I asked if she would be able to do anything about my bangs and she told me that the curls on them would eventually fall out. Mind you, I had to be at the photo place in 30 minutes, adding on to the fact that my bangs weren't meant to be curled at all. So essentially, she refused to give me the style I asked for, and I ended up paying nearly $70 plus a 15% tip for hair that I ended up rushing home to fix; so, don't go here if you have somewhere important to be I suppose. The stylists were attentive and confident, and my hair looked like it'd found the fountain of youth. I'd been growing out my natural dark hair for two years after a decade of intense bleaching and dyeing, so there was major damage at the ends and a messy/abrupt ombre from deep brunette to coppery blonde. I've always had anxiety about taking length off (and have left many salons in a panic about it) because my hair is a brat and looks very odd with most cuts, but my stylist absolutely nailed taking the damaged ends off and preserving/accentuating the original "style". I even got a mellow fringe (never thought I'd do that) and adored it.
