If I could give negative stars, I would! I just read a 1-star review from 2017, and my experience was almost identical 9 years later! I can't understand how they're still in business! Horror show times 100! I arrived at my appt 10 minutes early, and was taken 60 minutes late! Why does a customer need to ask repeatedly, "How much longer?" Why isn't customer service proactively providing an explanation? Reassurance, maybe? I suppressed my outrage, because I just wanted my hair done without attitude. When I finally got to the sink, I thought, okay, now I can relax. Well, that thought quickly evaporated. Scalding water turned freezing, back to scalding. And the stylist must have put honey in my hair because it felt like she was ripping it out with water running through it! I don't have a sensitive scalp, and an experience like this has NEVER happened to me before. I asked her 3x to be gentler, and she dismissed me while joking around with the stylist next to her. Unfortunately, the unpleasantness (and pain!) didn't end with the wash. While in the chair, I had to tell her to take the hot iron out of my hair because she left it in so long while she took a phone call, I was sure a chunk of my hair would fall out. Besides the inexcusable lateness, the plumbing situation that goes unfixed, the rough handling, and the personal calls being taken with a hot iron in the stylist's hand, the salon was freezing, the music blasting louder than a club, it was without a doubt the worst salon experience of my lifetime. This is the first negative review I've ever written, for any establishment, in any industry. I honestly walked out to my car in tears, because after a hard day at work and thinking I'd sink into a salon chair and relax for an hour, I came away feeling assaulted. read more

This location was really good 3 years ago, idk what happened ... had an appointment scheduled for a certain time because I had to get ready to go to a concert. I come in and the place is packed. I tell the front person 'Lauren' that I have an appointment for 2pm. She looks at me with attitude and says it's at 2:30pm... i'm like okay let me show her, it clearly says 2pm on my appointment. and all of the sudden her attitude changes and she blames the system and laughs. I'm thinking to myself if you moved me without telling me at least own up to it. but whatever i sit down .. they took me in to wash my hair at 2:50 and they started my hair at 3pm ... my appointment was scheduled for 2pm. I had to cancel other things i wanted to get done because I had no time after. If i wanted a later appointment I would've scheduled it. And at the end she asked me if im a member? honestly i saw how they treat their members they kiss their ass and it just looks like a lot of privilege to me. So no thank you! if you're going to charge so much money for a damn blow dry, at least make it feel like it's worth it and don't give shitty attitude and be useless. where are the updates? why is no one talking to me? telling me how long? apologizing? if you can't handle the rush don't overbook. Also fix the attitude. that's not how you should treat people in general. Came here to get my hair done before a wedding (asked for soft curls) but wasn't too happy with the end results. The curls also didn't hold up for the evening (even with me asking them to apply some extra hairspray) which was a bummer. Appreciated that they were on time for the appointment though! Cost was $35 for the dry styling/curls (without wash) before tips. Private lot/free mall parking. Would recommend going to the Drybar location in Back Bay instead (nicer staff and better styling). read more

This was the absolute worst blow dry I have ever had. And I have had a lot of blow drys. My hair was left damp, frizzy and completely flat. The woman who did the blow dry was very sweet and tried hard, but it was her first day on the job. When I was checking out, they asked me if everything was ok (in front of the new stylist) and I was so humiliated by the disaster on my head that I mumbled that it was ok and ran out the door. The bigger issue was when I called to politely ask if they would redo the blow dry, the receptionist Lee was incredibly rude, sarcastic, unprofessional, and condescending. I have never experienced customer service this bad. Avoid this place at all costs. This place truly blows. read more

The staff here is super friendly. The vibe is overall welcoming. I got a blow dry . It was raining they gave me an umbrella. That was a blessing or my hair would have got wet. I've never written a negative review before, but I felt compelled to share my experience at the Drybar in Chestnut Hill. On Sunday evening, my hair dryer broke. With an important meeting scheduled for Monday at 11:00 a.m., I booked a 9:45 a.m. appointment at Drybar -- despite it being a 45-minute drive -- because I wanted to look polished and feel confident. I arrived early at 9:35 a.m., only to be told by the front desk employee that they would not style my hair because it was "slightly damp" in the back. I offered to pay extra for a quick blow-dry, but she refused. I then asked if I could blow-dry it myself, especially since I was early and willing to wait -- again, she said no, citing "policy." I even asked if I could step out and return in 15 minutes once it was fully dry, but was told that wasn't possible either due to being "short staffed." There was zero flexibility, no effort to find a solution, and not even a hint of empathy. I was stunned by how unhelpful and dismissive the staff member was. I left in tears. With no other option, I put my hair in a ponytail in the car. I didn't feel confident walking into my meeting, and honestly, it impacted my performance. I can't say enough about ROSA!!!! She does the best blowout. She is so professional and sweet. I have thick curly hair, and not everyone can do a nice blowout but she is incredible. I've been waiting over 1 month for the manager of this store to contact me for a refund for my May 30th 2025 blowout appointment with Jess credited back to my barfly account. I waited over 30mins from the time my appointment was booked (6pm) to the time I was actually seated in the chair (6:40pm). This is disgraceful. Drybar only has a 15min grace period for its clients before they charge a cancellation fee or move on to the next customer waiting, so the fact that I had to wait over 30mins when I had a scheduled appointment should entitle me a discount on my services or a refund for future services. I discussed this with Lauren the bartender who let me know a manager needed to take care of this for me and assured me she would be calling me to refund me a barfly credit back to my account but after my calling every other day for a month asking when the manager would be calling me the manager has never once attempted to call or leave a voicemail for me or emailed me to make this better and refund me. I am appalled at this behavior. It's now June is 24th and still nothing- I'm beginning to think there is no manager at this location? I pay good money for my monthly barfly membership and I want this appointment credited back to my monthly allotment so I have it to use again as a future appointment. I love the people and always love my hair but..... the place is dirty!! The ceiling is so dusty, not a great experience while my hair is being washed. Bathrooms are also not the cleanest. This place is in need of some real TLC/upgrades. Also, they're always running out of products. I've been trying to buy dry shampoo for months and still nothing. I have been a barfly member since Drybar opened up. I canceled my barfly membership, which was not easy to do, when I tried to cancel they told me that they no longer own the dry bar in Chestnut Hill and that they sold it. I Canceled my membership in writing after speaking to someone on the phone, because the quality of the products and the service has gone, increasingly downhill while the prices continue to rise. I had 5 PREPAID blow dry in my balance. 5! when I went in today for a scheduled blow dry to use one of my PREPAID blow drys They told me that they were all gone and they expired 90 days after my cancellation. Nowhere was just explained to me. I gave them proof of my correspondence With Drybar and the answer was sorry it's always been our policy. It is extremely disappointing that a long-term client would be treated this way. They have lost me forever. I have purchased blow dry gift certificates as gifts probably a dozen times in the last seven years. I will be telling anyone who will listen just go to Ulta. They're cheaper more professional and quality is better. Update: The "owner" Ashley is not returning phone messages This location took over 200$ from me and can't return a phone call ! Update: to make it easy for Ashley to make a decision on the right thing to do I've cut and pasted the Massachusetts law. Yuck...what a terrible experience. I totally understand the need for cancellation policies. With that being said, I called in a panic on Friday afternoon. I was driving to the ER for my sister who had gotten into a terrible car accident. I thankfully remembered during my 30 minute drive that I had a hair appointment! I called as a courtesy to let them know I wouldn't be able to make it. The woman says "That will be a $50 cancellation fee". I explained the situation. I was driving to the emergency room! Please let me at least reschedule. I'm happy to prove that this is why I need to cancel within a few hours notice. No luck. No apologies. No "I'm sorry, I hope everything is ok". I'll never support this company again. If someone has COVID do they have to pay a cancellation fee? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if folks went in with sickness and spread it to their hair stylists. read more

This morning I went to Drybar to have my hair done for a wedding this evening. I showed a picture of my hair from a previous wedding and there seemed to be no hesitation in making it similar to the inspiration picture. I booked with (clip in) extensions, so the receptionist and manager knew I had them with me. Basically as soon as I sat down I knew my stylist did not know how to work with them and they even went back to speak with someone about how to install them properly. At that moment the manager should have known they needed to send another hair stylist to me. I have pretty fine hair and the heat coming off of the dryer was burning my scalp. Not to mention the pulling, which I am sure resulted in breakage. My hair kept getting stuck in the brush and at one point I was actually nervous it was very tangled. After the blow dry was complete they started to put the extensions in, which seemed to be going ok but I could tell they were nervous. Then it came time to actually curl my hair. The stylist opted for a flat iron. With extensions in this resulted in extreme pulling and my extensions starting to slip. There was no effort made for blending and I even needed to request that they use hairspray to keep the hold until the wedding. As soon as I got into my car I noticed my extension tracks are pretty much visible is I move at all and my natural hair was basically uncurled as soon as I got into my car while the extensions were still very curly at the end. I am not a confrontational person. My mom is a hairdresser in another sate, so I know it is difficult when clients are not happy. I rarely, if ever, complain about services because I know it is hard work. As soon as I got into my car and started to get a better look at my hair I was devastated. I paid close to $100 for something I will have to basically completely do over myself. My stylist was so sweet I did not want to make them feel bad. I am fulling putting the blame on the managers as they knew I had extensions and they should know their stylists abilities, especially when the stylist expresses their concern about properly completing services for me in the first place. I felt it was necessary for me to write a review to warn others who might be going in with taped, sewn or clip in extensions that Drybar will most likely not be serviced properly. If you are going to up charge for a service, your stylists should know how to properly complete that service. I am extremely disappointed, especially with the high cost attached. read more

DO NOT GO I had a traumatizing experience this afternoon. I had a blowout during which the stylist took out 2 separate tape in extensions. Mind you, I only have 6 small tapes. The remainder of the blowout was aggressive for platinum hair. When I got the register the girl with the blue hair told me my total was $69. I know the blowout is only $40. When I asked why, she told me because I have extensions it's additional charge. I lifted the two extensions in my hand and explained I only have 4 small tapes left. And she told me "it doesn't matter." I told the receptionist that I was not going to pay that additional charge and she replied "well we already charged your card on file. And we have all your information here name, email". That's illegal to charge a card without it permission AND a threat btw. I asked for her manager she refused to provide me any names. I provided a gift card and the receptionist said there was no value and it was "really old" I have never used that gift card so that's impossible. I told her to keep the charge on my card that she said she previously made and as I walked out she yelled "I need your card! I'll call the police" and I had several stylists screaming at me as if they were going to chase me out of the salon! I returned and the receptionist was on the phone and went into the backroom. So as I was held essentially hostage at this point seeing as I apparently was going to have police after me. I waved my card in the air and not one of the stylists knew how to check a client out. The receptionist came out of the back and yelled at me "ARE YOU COOPERATING?" I asked why she needed my card if she already charged it. She said the card on file was expired. It expires in 2023 nice try. In short, I lost two extensions, increased my hair breakage, and had the police called on me. And I paid. So I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone; a mediocre blowout is not worth an arrest. read more

I have been coming here for one year or so on a weekly basis. The front desk staff is ignorant at best. No smiles and they look blankly at you when you arrive. They ask you if you want a drink, and there is about a 50 percent chance that you will get it. Obviously their phones are more important than customer service. The stylists vary from very good to rough. It is impossible to get the stylist that you want through a request on the app, which makes the app useless, and you need to spend 15 minutes on the phone to make your request. I came in on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a good friend to an appointment that I made ahead of time, online. As soon as I walked in, I was alarmed by the loud music and asked to lower the volume... the lady at the front desk ,did not think to apologize and lower it, rather, came up with the excuse that the volume is set and can't be adjusted:( (: (: Really? The speaker system was installed without a volume knob? You really want me to believe that? ) I persisted and she went to the back... not sure what she did... the music was still loud... furthermore, the lady at the front desk did not see my appointment on her schedule and for a moment I thought that I gotten it wrong but luckily I had an email confirmation!!! Saving grace! In any other case, I would have left the premises by now, but since I came with a friend , I could not just leave the place or cancel my appointment, so I was subjected to the loud music and unhelpful\unfriendly customer service person. The lady that washed my hair and blow dried it was nice and friendly... yet the end result was not impressive... quite disappointing (granted, I don't like any stabilizing hair products in my hair).... not very encouraging to come back to this location at this point... it's amazing how hard it is to find good service in this affluent area of the northeast... Update: after the horrible experience yesterday , I got an email that they are charging my credit card since I was a 'No Show'! I am beginning to think that Drybar has the following standards. 1. You will be taken late (I waited almost 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment). 2. You will have your hair brushed and it will be rough (And I have a very high pain tolerance). 3. You will be burnt with a curling iron at least once (She got me twice). 4. Your hair will fall flat and curls will fall out within 2 hours of leaving Drybar. One woman on the "desk staff" was wearing an outfit that didn't fit her. Every time she moved, she had to pull her shirt down. I saw enough belly and buttcrack to last me the rest of the year. This was my third time visiting Drybar and my second awful experience. I was having the most stressful day at work (on a Sunday no less), and I had an epiphany that if I wanted to, I could go get a blow out and additionally get a scalp massage. I told my coworkers that I was going offline and drove to the Chestnut Hill location. I have had mixed experiences as Dry Bars across the Boston area, but I loved the service that I got here.Tara took care of me and she was so sweet and complimentary. It's not lost on me that it was hours before closing on a Sunday, so, I really appreciated her hustle and the effort and care that she put into my look. I think that my hair will stay tomorrow for sure (sleeping on a silk pillow), but even if it didn't last, it would still be worth it for the scalp massage, hydrating boost, and the feeling I had leaving the salon. I was starting to lose faith in Drybar because I had had some truly bizarre experiences in the past, but, I will definitely come back to this location. The one star was just because I was only a minute late, and I still had to sit for my appointment an additional 15 mins. I saw Rosilene for my birthday and showed her an inspo pic and she did it perfectly she was super considerate and cared a lot about my curls holding and made sure I knew what to do with my hair once I left. Wow!!! They are not your regular hair salon. They charge premium price for blow-dry but you are not going to feel disappointed. My hairs are super fine and not easy to stay curled but Jessica did a fantastic job. I usually don't put any hair products or spray on my hair but their mousse and spray are not sticky and greasy. They smell so good and refreshing. I am very pleased. A great place to treat yourself a beautiful blow-dry service when you need one. I def.would recommend to make an appointment online. I had one and still have to wait for 10-15min. It could be CRAZY busy during Friday afternoon!!! read more

My birthday was this past Friday, and I decided to treat myself to a blowout with my best friend. It was my first time at a Dry Bar and unfortunately for my wallet I AM HOOKED. We showed up (with appointments, although slightly late due to Newton traffic) at around 1:30PM on a Friday. The place was absolutely packed, so I knew I was in for something good! My hair was done by a wonderful woman named Jordan. She's absolutely awesome but only works Fridays--be sure to request her if you're lucky enough! I got a 'Cosmo' blow out with a 'Floater' add-on, which is a 10-minute scalp massage. Apparently with the Floater, they also add in extra product treatment to your hair while massaging. You can choose either the Bay Breeze treatment or the Mud Mask treatment (both normally + $20) which I wasn't expecting. Needless to say the add-on was worth it. My hair was then blow dried and styled perfectly. My stylist listened when I said that I'm not a fan of too much hair product, and was meticulous when styling. The best part: Jordan did a little searching behind the scenes after my blow out, and was able to find me a bottle of Dry Bar shampoo that I'd been searching for for MONTHS! I was able to buy it while checking out, I was so happy. Also, I'm on day 3 of this blowout and it still looks fantastic. The Dry Bar brand dry shampoo has kept my hair looking grease-free which is pretty unheard of for my hair. I'm sold. Book your appointment now. read more

I have been a regular customer (intermittent BarFly) since 2016 and recently learned out that DryBar is cheating people out of service they paid for already if they discontinue membership during the pandemic. Their contract says that if you cancel your membership, you have 90 days to use your accrued credits. THAT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE PANDEMIC HAS SALONS CLOSED IN YOUR AREA. YOU LOSE.
