Turnstyle is better in music, setup, price, and equipment. Handlebar however is the pioneer for indoor cycle studio in Boston I feel like. Saw their studio way before others. 4 stars for the service, 75 minute New year's Eve special all with champagne and photo props! But to be real their decades remix was the same remix beat on top of every song from dancing Queen to Lizzie McGuire and even Billie Eilish. Awful music, boring EDM and unique choice of Christmas Celtic music to end the class. Air circulation could have been better. The girl cycling to my right generated a stronger breeze than the ceiling fans. They let us into the studio 3 minutes before start and we started two minutes late and ended two minutes late. No lockers, open cubbies for all, narrow walkways so it gets cramped, and try not to get hit by the door.

I absolutely love this place! I started going recently, but it's fun, challenging, and welcoming. Meredith is amazing and made me feel like I've been going as long as everyone else. Margaret's 6 am classes are super inspiring and give me a great start to my day when I go to those. Another great perk is I believe they have someone on call in case you forget something. I have seen girls opening the doors even late on weekends. I think a man left his bag in there last Friday, and I walked by as she let him all the way inside to the bike room at 1:30 am! Great customer service! Keep up awesome work!

My first class was with Matt L, and I have taken a lot of spin classes and this was definitely one of the best!

The amenities felt modern, and the sauna was definitely my favorite part - especially with the eucalyptus towels. The Pilates class was nice too, more of a recovery-style workout. Still deciding on the membership, but it's definitely a good spot.

Every morning, this huge (male) trainer takes up multiple squat racks, multiple cable points, and 3-4 boxes. It's not a big space, and he keeps things set up so you can't even work in. On top of that, another trainer works out every morning and takes up another squat rack, all of the area in front of it including blocking a machine, and shoots dirty looks if you get in ~her way~ Don't forget, they don't clearly label fragrance free areas in the locker room AND they scold you if you don't tell them that you had to leave and use your epi pen. Bet that had something to do with the membership thing too. Is it discrimination? Maybe. Overall, if you are someone who doesn't want to rock the boat or lift heavy weights or take up any amount of equipment, you'll probably be happy here. But expecting the treatment, access, and equipment worth the price is apparently a death sentence. Do better, Healthworks. Your biases and intolerance are showing.

The equipment is in great shape and I like that they have a lot of different weight options. I have taken a few instructors and all are friendly and helpful! Something I love about this studio is it welcomes all ages and abilities. It can be very intimidating walking into a new place and this studio does a great job of welcoming all. I am excited to try all the different classes they have to offer! The only downside is since it is such a small studio, they do not have a ton of class times to choose from. But that being said, I have never had an issue getting into a class or finding one that fits my schedule. My favorites are the TRX Bootcamp with Alex and the Power BURN with Jonathan. I can not recommend this place enough if you are looking for a strength training workout!

I signed back up for ClassPass recently and was so thankful to be able to take BURN classes again, even during a pandemic. I've since gone back into the studio for in-person classes, which are masked and have limited capacity, but now prefer to take their classes online. My favorite classes have been Tabata Burn and Power Burn. Jonathan, who teaches both, is charismatic and makes the class feel engaging even through Zoom. I would say the classes are challenging, but suited for all skill levels, and they encourage you to modify the workouts for whatever feels good for you.

Eli ran a great session: high energy, well-paced, and somehow got a bunch of coworkers to sweat together without it feeling like a corporate trust fall. Full transparency: I'm usually not a fan of classes that force you to pair up with other people (mostly because I'm lazy and prefer to suffer silently on my own), but I have to admit the partner format actually works. It's just enough accountability to keep you moving, without being overly "team-building retreat" about it. After class I took a quick lap around the facility. It's clean, well-maintained, and doesn't have that sad gym smell. Tons of class options, and now I'm very tempted by the heated yoga and the medspa... because if I'm going to work out, I'd like to be rewarded immediately afterward like a Kardashian. Everyone working there was genuinely nice and welcoming. Would absolutely take Eli's class again, and would recommend it if you want a great workout, a fun time with coworkers, or friends and the mild panic of realizing you're capable of more than you thought.

Wanted to charge me $1260 more than a friend of mine that signed up two months earlier. That is per year! All told they wanted to charge $3780 per year when my friend pays $2520 per year. On top of that they wanted to charge me $8160 for 48 training sessions which is $170/hr. I would have more than likely paid for the trainers because they are known for this, but when they cannot give you a similar rate to what others are paying because they think you have the money is ridiculous. Especially when you are prepared to spend $8160 on just the PT. All told that is $11940 for 16 weeks of PT and one year at the gym. That is a lot of money for anyone to put down. With this amount of money I was able to get two weeks of health spa vacations in La Jolla, CA and I am talking to several independent trainers that have made names for themselves in the area and will get 16 weeks from them. It took me a bit to find out who is who and who the best PT trainers are in the area. Certainly not at Equinox since the trainer they were going to assign me too you cannot find any information about them. So for me I am now spending ... $280 at Planet Fitness for Black Card $4320 for 48 PT session, plus 3 more for free $6400 for two weeks at an all-inclusive health resort in CA $560 for round trip tickets Total all together is $11560 which is $380 less and much more enjoyable than Equinox. Let's check the checklist. 1) Year long gym membership with access to every gym at Planet Fitness has around the world 2) 16 weeks, 3 days a week of PT training with a top trainer 3) 2 weeks at a health spa resort 4) Oh yeah, traveling to California On a related note, I was a member of this gym years ago. They played funny games with me where they allowed people that live more than a certain distance away to get out of their contract with no problems. I was well beyond that distance. Instead, they changed my address to their location at 225 Franklin Street and tried to tell me I was not able to get out of the gym membership because I lived at the same building as the gym. I had to report them to the attorney general to get out of the membership. I would not have gone back if it hadn't been so many years and my business partner and life coach recommended that I go for the PT. Just goes to show that a leopard cannot change their spots. Avoid this gym! There are better gyms out there.
