Great little local place to eat! Haven't had anything bad yet! Bring the family! They might need extra help if word gets out!

So I've been hanging out a bit in small town America lately. Luckily I've been able to discover some really good eats in some of these small towns. The Hangar is in a town of about 550 people. I have that many in my condo building. But what they lack in people they do pretty dam good in good places to grab a good bite. The Hangar is one of them. It looks like they poured a few bucks in this place. the decor is pretty nice and very rural. They know their demographic. Even the bathroom are pretty cool and interesting looking with keg urinals. Now I know that sounds nasty but I usually look for cleanliness and detail like quality of napkins etc. Anyone who is concerned with their restrooms is concerned with the details. The dining area is really nice and spacious wood on metal with an old bank vault for a kitchen door. There is also a pretty spacious patio to eat and drink on. Parking! Yes I never get used to that. But being a a small town i suppose they have plenty for which I am grateful. When they serve you get get your utensil set-up in this cools little paper bag sleeve. It's clean and likely pretty hygienic. The all around quality of non-food items is pretty good. The service is excellent. The staff very friendly and our server a good looking woman was on point and sincerely friendly. I am remiss I did not get her name as she deserves a shout out! The grub? Pretty damn good. My buddy had their burger and believe me he is a critic in a good way, he knows his stuff. Their fries are thick cut steak fries, the best kind. He really enjoyed the burger and that's saying something as he is in the business. I had an excellent hand-breaded pork tenderloin sandwich which was fried just right not too crisp and not soggy. A damn good sandy. A side of their BBQ I was good to go. My side of potato salad was righteous too. It seems more and more I run across small town America that has upped their game comparable to any big city in quality and atmosphere. They also have an edge on the price points. With general lower overhead they can be more reasonable I suppose. That said, people still have to make a living so please tip graciously when you can. I would definitely take a ride back here from the city. I may have to try a weekend which i bet is jamming'. read more

We visited here for an early dinner on a Saturday, we were gifted a gift card and were excited to try it out! The staff was very friendly from start to finish, the ambiance was cool, lots of cool decor inside. We ordered some apps and they were fine, we finished most of them before our meals arrived. For the meals we had a patty melt and a tenderloin, they were both average, but the prices were very fair so that made up for it. We did not order any alcoholic drinks, but they had a full bar to offer. read more

The Hangar Grill Pub is a great restaurant in what feels like the middle of nowhere Indiana. We saw a sign advertising the restaurant and stopped on our way home. The restaurant has a cool interior with the aviation theme and was extremely clean. I tried one of their cocktails, as they had a great presentation and caught my eye when I walked past the bar. For dinner I had the tenderloin and tots. The food was hot straight from the kitchen and tasted great. The tots were cooked perfectly and crispy. The pork tenderloin sandwich was on the thicker side and served with all the fixings. Our waitress was attentive and friendly! read more

A great place to stop for lunch. A gem in small town USA. We loved the aviation theme, with parts from real airplanes for lighting, seating and on the walls. Our food was tasty and well made. We were on our way back to Indianapolis from the Indiana Dunes when we saw the sign for The Hanger on the side of the road. The branding looked cool, and when we were in town, we saw that the building vibes matched the coolness of the sign. So, we decided to stop in. The atmosphere was super cool; the aviation theme was done well throughout the restaurant. Not pictures (obviously), but the bathroom dividers were sections of a plane wing. So cool! The service was excellent, and our server was very attentive. I ordered the tenderloin with tator tots. The tenderloin stood out because of the crispiness of the breading. I REALLY enjoyed that. I also liked that my tater tots were crispy too; far too many restaurants have soggy tots. The flavor of the tenderloin was good, and the amount of food I had could have easily been two meals (but it wasn't because I was starving). I also ordered a drink, which I believe was called the Airfare (but I could be wrong about the name). It was a super interesting drink that blended orgeat, lime, and rum with a few other ingredients, and I was impressed because the drink was very well balanced for its unorthodox combination of ingredients. I really enjoyed it, and I wish this restaurant were closer because of that drink. If you're on your way through La Crosse, IN, you have to stop in at The Hanger! If you are into planes this is the place for you the decorations are all plane kind of plane things . The food was very good . The mashed potatoes were real and the gravy was one of the best I ever had. Waitress kept our drink full. All in all a nice meal. There is sitting inside and out. Was a bar . As we're do not drink alcohol do not know how good the drink were. A little price but would be great for date night or special meal. read more

I keep giving this place a try. I don't know why. I ordered loaded tots and a sandwich. The tots took 20 minutes to get the tots and another 25 minutes to get a sandwich. I will be honest, there are a lot of open tables. I wouldn't say that they are slammed but they are far from busy. When I asked to cancel the sandwich and pay I was told that it just came up and was ready. Imagine that right? This place needs uniforms. It looks so nice but when the some of the staff looks like they have their pajamas on and came to work it's a little off putting. The tots were good. I'll say that much. The service is just "ok" at best. The cooler lights are burnt out that display the alcohol. You would think that would be a priority to fix. I'll give it another try in 3 or 4 months and see what happens. It really is a nice looking place. read more

I've been seeing the posts on Facebook of this space being renovated and had be eagerly awaiting the grand opening. I stopped in for lunch and there was already a nice gathering of people inside. The staff was friendly and very quick to help out. The design and details of the inside of the building were pretty awesome. It is aviation themed and was bright and full of interesting things to look at. Now onto the important stuff, the food! Because it was opening day, there was a limited menu. It seems that they will be open starting at 7am and will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even though the menu was limited, there were plenty of options for me. Ended up choosing the wings and fries and a Fat Tire to drink. I was pleased to see something on tap other than the usual 3 domestics and an ipa. The beer was cold and delicious. I was a little disappointed to have it served in a plastic cup though. The wings arrived incredibly fast. The maple bourbon sauce wasn't too thick and overpowering. Just the right amount of sweetness and the more the wings cooled off, the more that sauce turned into a little bit of a sticky glaze. The wings themselves were juicy and huge! I haven't seen a wing that large in quite some time. The fries were crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside, exactly how good fries should be. I can't wait to try some of the other food on the menu. The couple down the bar from me got the chicken sandwich, and pulled pork nachos and they both looked seriously delicious. All that said, I can't wait to bring my wife and the extended family in for them to try it out! Well worth the trip to town for! read more

Well our stop wasn't planned, but I'm glad we stopped and ate. First, it's clean and modern decor was great. Secondly, the food was excellent. I ordered a starter of nacho chips and salsa. Fresh made salsa in a pico-de-gallo style, the best we ever had. My chicken Caesar salad was nicely grilled and seasoned to perfection. My wife had a delectable Italian beef dip sub on a huge roll with copious amounts of beef and mozzarella cheese. She said it was good as any she ever tasted. For those of you who enjoy "blue highway" driving this bar/restaurant 30 miles south of the Dunes on Hwy 421 at its intersection with Hwy 8 is an excellent stop that has a great bar and outdoor seating but is also family friendly and always clean. The kitchen family area is in an old bank and the theme of small craft aviation is carried throughout the location with innovative reuse of plane parts. Great, friendly service from efficient wait staff is the norm though like many places their are occasional low staff days. Daily specials can be found on their Facebook page--keep an eye out for beef tenderloin tips-my personal favorite--but the burgers are also great and the fries are among the best I've ever had. Friday fish fry varies it may be perch or blue gill or salmon but it always includes great tartar sauce from their own recipe--check fb for fish. Weekends only the breakfasts are generous traditional fare. Really pleasant stop worthy destination for an afternoon drive--live music most weekends. read more

Are you kidding me?! The french fries here were made in HEAVEN! These were simply the absolute best french fries I have ever eaten and I am a fat, old bag, so you know that's a lot of fries that I have tried in my lifetime! Had the Bacon Blue Burger that was cooked to perfection. To drink was their scratch made Long Island Iced Tea! It packed a punch and was delicious and refreshing. The wait staff was witty and pleasant. We're big airplane buffs so the atmosphere and decor was spot on! Absolutely cannot wait to go back! read more
