EEK! Food was nice with balanced flavors, but I couldn't focus on it ​because the lady waiting on me kept coughing. I wondered if I was going to catch something contagious. And it felt disorganized- no napkins at the hand washing station, for example. Also the buffet looked picked over and stale. Granted i went at 3 pm - but you would think they might stir dishes often and keep it fresh? Overall - their food is good but they have a lot of cleaning up to do in their ambiance. Nice atmosphere clean. Very nice people. Good service. The place mainly caters to a lunch crowd not as much for dinner. The food was very good. Although didn't have some of the dishes available and didn't have naan or a few other Indian dishes you would expect. For a nice lunch or early dinner what they do have is fresh and tasted good. We stumbled upon this place and we were so glad we did! The service, while a bit slow and maybe forgetful at times, was still very accommodating and nice. Everyone who worked there had a smile and was willing to help. We were most surprised and delighted by the pani puri appetizer station with a server handing out various flavors for us to try. Super fun and delicious. The food was too spicy for my kids and some were too spicy for me even though I love spice. One area they could improve is the service time and the servings of bread. We needed much more bread for our meals. When we ordered more, they did not seem fresh and had the texture of reheated tortillas in a microwave. Loved having many flavors to choose from. Never order their Wednesday Biryani to-go deal of 3 Biryanis for $22.99. They pack left over rice from lunch buffet with 2 spoons of Panner Tikka or Chicken curry on top of this rice. This is their definition of Biryani. Very frustrating and disappointing to come home and find that you got rice with a little curry and not biryani. I had very bad and worst experience here. The food was very worst and oily. I have never ever seen sambar like watery. There sambar is with out dhal. Please don't keep high hope in this restaurant. I was hungry but it was very late. I call ahead to make sure they would be open. I did not know what to expect. My family enter this fine establishment with an open mind and 3 empty bellies. The vibe here was casual and family oriented. The wall had a large projection screen, TV displaying Indian music videos. Which was fun and entertaining. The dining area was full of color. All the entree's here were created with love and fully authentic. The hand crafted triangle Samosa Chaat is a crispy pastry with a tender warm center. The authentic Chicken Curry is spicy but delicious. This is my first time trying Gongury Mutton. I am glad my server suggested this entree. Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite dish we ordered hands down. Each dish was paired with a tasty bread. I enjoyed the large portions of each delicious dishes. The chi tea here changed me. I had a absolutely awful experience here. I found this place on Groupon I bought something saying 25 dollars of food buffet and unlimited drinks. The food was by far the worst Indian food I have ever had and the chaffing dishes they used to keep the food hot were as cheap as possible which kept the food barely warm. The second I started eating this food it made me feel sick. I then showed the server my Groupon and asked how much the buffet was he said 14 dollars, I said okay well this says 25 dollars of food can I get a order of samosas please he said this is all we have now I said there's no other food that I can order he said not until dinner, I then explained it says 25 dollars worth of food he acted like sorry there's nothing so can do not sure what you are asking of me. I explained in great detail that is says 25 dollars worth of food why would I pay 16 dollars for something when the cost of the buffet is 14 dollars? They had some drinks in a cooler I asked if I could have 6 of the bottle waters he said no I said do you not understand this is false advertising you can get in trouble for that he huffed and puffed something serious, shoved them in a bag and I was on my way. Service was good, waitress was very attentive and kind. Food and cleanliness- not so much. My husband (who is Indian) and I were so excited to find a restaurant that served thali. However, the food (including meat curry) came out cold and honestly nothing tasted great. I went to the restroom, and it was GROSS. Not like it got dirty today gross, but build up of dirt and grime and water stains on the mirror, ect. Just never cleaned well and it was very off putting. Then we witnessed one of the employees walk out of the bathroom and literally scratch her rear end/pull out a wedgie and walk directly back into the kitchen. At this point I cannot eat my food, so my husband finishes his and some of mine. His mistake- he barely made it home before the food poisoning hit. A friend and I drove from Colorado Springs to try their breakfast dishes. The restaurant seating is very comfortable and has a casual vibe. We tried idli, vada, dosa, and upma. The vada was our favorite. The chutneys and sambhar were good, but I can't tell you what types they were (coconut, tomato, and something with ginger). The idli and vada also came with sambhar, and I would order an extra portion of sambhar next time so we could each have our own, flavorful. The idli is very simple, and I didn't expect otherwise. The vada had a lovely crisp texture and mild oniony flavor. The upma was a brand new dish for me. I wasn't sure what I thought of it after the first few bites, but the flavor and soft texture (similar to Cream of Wheat cereal) kinda grow on you--lightly seasoned and has a small amount of chopped vegetables, curry leaves, and maybe cashews. The dosa was also very good--very thin, slightly lacey edges, very nice flavor. We also had chai. It came in small paper cups and was unsweetened so that you can add sugar to your taste at the table. I would like this place even more if it had a menu that was a bit more explanatory. Also, the chutneys seemed to be the same with each dish (maybe that is normal in an Indian restaurant, but I have not had Indian breakfast in a restaurant elsewhere). The service was friendly, we enjoyed the food, and the prices were very reasonable. I am likely to return to try some other things. read more

Hands down the BEST Southern Indian food I've experienced in 5 states AND having traveled to Pondicherry and New Delhi- it might even be better than any places I've had there! The rice alone might have up to 15 ingredients. It's just a solid value, totally consistant too. Maybe the service is different to American standards but pretty normal for India and personally that's what I love about the The Hangout Place. Went here about a week ago, walked in and ordered Togo took almost a hour to get our food, got 2 butter chickens one with rice and one with the bread after being told 2 of the other options we wanted to order were not available. The bread option was a little tiny piece of bread that was not enough to satisfy one person. Other then that the food was ok at best not worth the wait though. We came here a couple of weeks ago with good expectations but were let down by poor service. I believe it is family run, but none of the employees seem to really care about maintaining the place. We were told to sit anywhere, but most of the tables were not cleaned from the previous people eating there. Luckily there were 2 or 3 clean tables, so we sat at one. We ordered and we thought everything was fine, but then 10 minutes later the waiter came up to us and told us one dish was unable to be made because "the pan was dirty." We ended up changing that dish with another. Another issue is that one person in my party received their food 20-30 minutes before the rest of us received our food. That person did not want to start eating by themselves, so she waited until the rest of us received our food and by the time we all got our food her food was cold. Most of the food actually tasted pretty good, but the experience with the service here ruined our experience so much. I believe all issues could be resolved if they got new staff to work the front of the house or maintain better standards among the staff. read more

Rarely busy...but there's a reason why. Food used to be consitently good when they first opened, but now it's hit or miss. Pakora, samosa or other appetizers are often cold, and almost always served WITH the main meal rather than bringing the starters out first. You can ask for coffee or tea, but again, you'll sit staring at your companion for 20 minutes before anything comes out, and they'll make excuses for the delays. You'll have to go up to the curtain blocking the view of the kitchen and call out for someone multiple times before they come out to attend to you - no one monitor's the dining area, and they don't seem to care that customers are left to fend for themselves. The food is rarely consistent in flavor, texture, or done-ness - I've even had dosas that are half burnt/half barely cooked thru. Prices are reasonable if you compare it to other Indian restaurants, but NOT if you consider what you're getting. The Hangout Place is either for people who have no clue what good south Inidan food tastes like, or people who are famished and don't care what they throw down their throats. I decided to finally post my first Yelp review about this place because it's just such a dissapointing representation of south Indian food. We could really use a great south Indian restaurant in the Lone Tree area, but this IS NOT IT. read more
