As "knowledgeable " as I thought that I was about the regional cuisines of India, I experienced some incredible new flavor profiles from the south last night at the Denver Godavari restaurant. Huge menu, almost too big/extensive. I could eat here for a year, trying a different dish every day. Are the standard Punjab/Mumbai north Indian restaurants fare seem one dimensional. I can see that a buffet is the way to sample and experience. Sad that the one in Houston closed. So I guess that I will need to look for Chetinnad restaurants when I get home. While Godavari has been around for a while, it was new to me... and a delicous experience. Plenty of parking too! Sunday afternoons offer a $25 all you can eat vegetarian and non-veg menu with loads of choices of each. Labeled tags with descriptions allow for easy selections. This was a great way to try a little bit of everything. The food was tasty and not overly spicy. We tried the achars and pickles that were a great addition. Chai is part of the buffet too! I will say they heavily push the buffet, making it seem that ordering off the menu will take up to 45 minutes. However, we saw those who ordered from the menu get their food in half that time. The only reason I give this place 2 stars and not 1, is because I had a great first experience here -- but to be fair, that was a visit I got invited for -- so I can't place too much stock in its authenticity. I brought a couple of friends here for a dinner on a regular Wednesday night. There weren't many people there. We ordered apps and relayed that one of us was allergic to dairy, so could we please find out what dishes (especially curries) could be made dairy-free. Of the three servers working there, it seemed no one knew a single dish on their HUGE menu that could be made without dairy -- and didn't seem to care. They all seemed to be brushing us off and wanting us to leave. My friend literally ordered just bread, and they couldn't even be "sure" that was without butter. We finally placed our orders, and waited for an hour -- and our apps weren't even out. Meanwhile many other tables filled up and got THEIR food. I don't know if it's because we were the only white people there, or because one of us had an allergy, but I haven't felt this unwelcome in a restaurant in Denver ever. We ended up paying for our drinks and just leaving an hour in. Will not be bringing people back. read more

Godavari Denver is simply an easy 5 star Indian buffet! They offer vegetarian and meat options. Service is amazing and staff are super friendly! There's so many dishes to try and everything was fresh and hot. I wish Godavari existed in Texas because man oh man the spicy and flavors of each dish was made like you had went to a family meal! Everything was different flavor profile and it's super authentic! Chicken, goat, paneer, veggies, different curries, different rices, briyani, and so much more! I really enjoyed my meal! This place was packed but we manage to be able to snag a table during rush hour. The thing that I find strange is that they were selling mango lasso drinks kept in a cooler refrigerator display and some other items you can purchase. I wish they would just have that part of the buffet. There seems to be a lot of them and people weren't buying those items because they already paid $$ for the buffet. Do I recommend this place? Yes! This is more southern Indian style food! So delicious:) Most Indian buffets have shut down or discontinued their buffet options. My husband and I searched intently for a good lunch Indian buffet and found it here. The interior is ample and comfortable with nice booths. Service is kind and helpful. They have a large selection of vegetarian dishes and some meat ones too. The biryani on the buffet was so good and scrumptiously spiced I'm still thinking of it. My only complaint is that a lot of dishes weren't that hot. I really love hot temp food so for me it was disappointing but tolerable. My husband hardly noticed though. The food is so delicious, but my favorite thing is the desserts. Their carrot halwa is one of the best I've ever had. They also offer ice cream. I looooove the ras malai flavor. Service is excellent as the staff are super kind and helpful. The decor is super cool and creative. read more

This is my first online review, and it is driven by a very disappointing experience with Godavari Restaurant. On June 13, I ordered Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani as takeout. When we started eating at home, I found strands of hair in the food--this alone is completely unacceptable. However, the situation worsened when I bit into something hard. Assuming it was a bone, I removed it, only to find a hard black particle resembling a pencil tip, which was alarming and clearly a serious food safety concern. I contacted the restaurant to report the issue, expecting accountability and at least a willingness to investigate. Instead, I was met with a defensive and dismissive attitude. They attempted to justify it by calling it a cinnamon stick, which is simply not credible--I am familiar with cinnamon and this was clearly not that. Food quality is not just about taste--hygiene and safety are non-negotiable. The restaurant's failure to take responsibility and their disrespectful, evasive response are deeply concerning. This experience reflects a serious lapse in both food handling standards and customer service. I will not be returning. Customers should be extremely cautious when ordering from this place. read more

Try and get there early before the buffet gets cold. Without the heat the dishes are mediocre.

Food: we ordered shrimp biryani; masala onion dosa; and a chat. We aren't really used to or familiar with Southern Indian food. We certainly have eaten more than our share of northern Indian food. We thought the things we ordered were just OK. Probably our favorite was the chat. Service: our waitress didn't seem like she wanted to be working in this restaurant. She never asked if we needed more water. She didn't deliver the chai that we ordered. We felt ignored by her. Ambience: the physical plant is very large with abundant seating. The food here is incredible! Better than anywhere in my native Chicago area, Devon Street (little India). I mean it! We are spoiled to have such a wealth of South Indian food available in one place. The dosa was perfectly crispy and stuffed with a delicious fresh potato mix, and the variety of Sambal and chutneys served with it were thick, flavorful and fresh! We also ordered the Avakai goat curry, made with mango pickle, and it had the perfect level of heat with LOTS of flavor! The meat fell off the bone, and the sauce was delicious. I also ordered a savory yogurt buttermilk, and it had lots of flavor too, and is my go-to for eating spicy, flavorful curries. Finding a spot with so much variety, including all the dosas, tiffins, chaat, and their weekly specials on top of the creative drinks as well as an alcohol menu - WOW! I must have hit an 'off' lunch as my friend suggested we visit Godavari because we both enjoy Indian food. Some of the entrees were fine in the expansive buffet but for the most part, the flavor's just didn't do it for me. Some of the chicken entrees were good, nice and spicy with a good amount of heat. The naan was inedible, flat and dry, the chai, I make better at home, the Kheer was sour and way different and the goat biryani, I couldn't find any goat! Service was fine and the atmosphere was lively. So many reviews were positive when I first read them. Three stars is generous. read more

Finding a tasty and well priced dosage place in Denver has always been hard. We used to go to Masala in Aurora but after seeing the quality and taste decline there, we were thrilled to stumble upon this restaurant. Our go to meal here is an onion rava dosa, which I liked filled with masala but my other family members enjoy as is. It is incredibly tasty and crunchy! Each dosa is served with sambar (don't worry about asking for more as we always need to have a little extra. They serve you seconds at no cost!) It's also served with 3 different types of chutneys: a coconut chutney, a ginger chutney and one other that I cannot remember off of the top of my head. I also like ordering their mango Lassi as well as I find it incredibly tasty. The restaurant is bustling at lunch time and though they do offer a lunch buffet, I feel like their dosas are what make them stand out. We have catered from here before and they do a live dosa service at fair price. Perfect for parties! I'd highly reccomend coming here for a taste of South Indian cuisine! read more

By far the best South Indian restaurant in Denver. If you are expecting a North Indian restaurant where the highlights are Chicken Tikka Masala and Chickpeas, this is not your place. If you are looking for food from the south of the subcontinent, this is your your restaurant. The dosa served here is right on par with what you get in India. They ask your crisp level, and if you choose crisp as I do, you will not be disappointed. The sambar served on the side is top notch as are all of the chutneys, including tomato and coconut. The serving is a bit much for one, and I will end up sharing in the future as I will be back. Now let us talk about the lunch buffet. $18 for weekdays, higher on weekends. The buffet does boast a variety of foods including dishes made from vegetables found in the southern region of India. The buffet is very vegetarian forward, with a small selection of meat and fish kept off to the side. The buffet does include dessert as well as tea/lemonade. Overall the food is very well done. I can handle spice, however this spice level was out of my league. I can usually do some damage at an all-you-can-eat buffet however I had to end my meal earlier than expected as my tongue could no longer tolerate the heat. Honestly, this is currently the best Indian restaurant I've tried in Denver. Staff is accommodating, food is great and the prices are decent. My first time trying their weekend buffet and my friends here rave about it and rightly so. Their buffet is so good - so many vegetarian options, multiple types of biryanis.. it just makes sense to come here for their buffet! The medu vadas in the buffet were as good my the ones from my favourite restaurant in Mumbai! Loved it. We had to head to the airport and the staff here was so accommodating and got us a table within minutes. I recently tried South Indian cuisine for the first time at Godavari in Centennial, and it's freaking delicious! Godavari was recommended to my daughter by a co-worker from India. She said it's the only Indian restaurant she will go to and I can see why. They have a great variety on their menu but for our first visit we opted for the buffet so we could try more dishes. They have everything separated by vegetarian and non-vegetarian with desserts and beverages on the side. Everything is perfectly spiced and the flavors are so delicious. The entire staff is friendly and helpful and right there any time we needed something. The restaurant is clean and bright with some eclectic decor. Godavari Indian offers a great lunch buffet as well as a a la carte menu. I've stopped in twice for lunch now and it did not disappoint. I'm actually normally not a big buffet fan, however this place is different. I love the variety of different Indian dishes it offers and both times I've been the menu has varied. The last time I went they offered a coconut paneer dish - so amazing and I still think about it. The food there is so unique and overall not too spicey (just spicey enough) - coming from a generally spice adverse person. Service is great. They are always punctual to take your order, and food comes out quickly. Their paneer 555 dish is AMAZING!!! You have to get that as an appetizer. Their upma is good as well. Biryani (which is my husband's favorite) has been lacking the last couple times we were there. Not much chicken meat, and not very flavorful. We've tried multiple chicken curries, and those have been satisfactory. Nearly every time we ordered upma it was good, but the last time it was a bit dried out and chunky. The atmosphere is good, and the food overall is good despite some disparities in quality control. If they could be more consistent on quality of dishes, we would come more often. read more

I met my adult son there Tuesday for lunch at 1:30. This was our first time at Godivari and we were interested in their buffet. The food was excellent. Many of the items were spicy and all were delicious. The large buffet was arranged in an L shape with vegetarian foods first in the long strip of the L.
