This one was an unexpected gem and one of the most memorable stops of our Fells Point trip…read more We walked in on a Thursday night (not sure of the exact time), and it was completely empty. No bartender in sight, no other patrons, no background noise. For a moment, we genuinely wondered if we were in the right place. The bar is down a flight of stairs, tucked into the basement, and it's notable because it's Fells Point's only and possibly first basement bar, which already gives it serious character points. We waited near the bar for a few minutes, heard nothing, saw no one, and eventually started heading back up the stairs to leave. That's when Steve, the bartender, literally came after usnot in a weird way, but in a very human, "Hey! Sorry about that, I was in the stock room come back in!" way. And honestly? From that moment on, the experience completely flipped. Steve was phenomenal. Friendly, welcoming, deeply knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the place. He's worked there for 18 years, and once we sat down, he turned the bar into a living history lesson. He shared stories about Fells Point, Baltimore, Edgar Allan Poe, the building itself, and all the ghost stories tied to the space. He also told us about the celebrities who've passed through, including the fun detail that Blake Shelton once sat in the very bar stool I was sitting in and ordered a Bullet bourbon. Naturally, that kind of trivia just adds to the charm. Drink-wise, I ordered an Angry Orchard, and my friend had a single Tito's with cranberry and soda water. Our total was $26.16, which feels pretty standard for Baltimore definitely not cheap, but not shocking either. The bar itself is small, intimate, and packed with atmosphere exposed brick, low ceilings, and that cozy, historic, slightly haunted vibe you hope for in a basement bar. It's also connected to The William Fell Inn hotel through a separate entrance, which makes it feel like a hidden secret rather than a tourist stop. We loved the history, the stories, the ghosts, the setting and especially Steve. Being the only patrons that night was actually a gift, because it let us really soak it all in. That said, we're absolutely planning to come back on a busy night to see how the energy shifts when it's full. If you love historic bars, good storytelling, and places that feel like they've seen things Anchor Bar is a must. ‍

It's a wonderful cocktail lounge right in the heart of Fells, with an awesome drink selection and clearly talented bartenders. I also loved the décor; the bar has a fun Latin-inspired vibe that I really enjoyed. You can even order food from Fuzzies, the food truck, and the dill pickle fries were especially good. The only downside worth mentioning is the restrooms. They need some serious attention, as they looked a bit rundown and weren't very clean when we visited at 5 pm, even though the bar was fairly quiet. Overall, it's a unique spot and a great place to enjoy a few cocktails before or after dinner. I highly recommend checking it out!

It is conveniently located next to Waterfront Hotel and is not very visible and inviting from the outside, simply because there are really no signs and not typically a bouncer. You can also easily access Waterfront Hotel from the back of the bar. However, the vibes are good inside. It's dark and loud but cozy and cute. The espresso martinis are amazing and the bartenders are very nice and make incredible drinks. There's a cute photo-op at the back of the bar. I can't wait to go back to the bar with my friends and make it one of our go-to spots.

We had a party of 7 and we pretty much had our pick of where to sit. The waitress was talking really fast and low and we kept having to ask her to repeat herself. Everyone was pretty happy with their drinks. This is when the night turned. 4 of the 7 of us wanted to leave and head elsewhere, the waitress made ALL 7 of us pay even though the others wanted to stay and order more. She would not budge on this and seemed pretty nonchalant about it. .. all in all. Glad we found it but won't be back.

Smooth, rich, perfectly balanced... this is the kind of drink that reminds me why I started my little espresso martini passport in the first place. It was giving luxury, it was giving intention, it was giving I need another one immediately. For food, I started with the crudo, which was super fresh and beautifully done -- light, bright, and the perfect way to kick off the meal. Then I had the scallops, and this is where they really won me over. Perfectly cooked, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth... just one of those dishes you don't want to end. The whole experience felt elevated without being stuffy -- gorgeous waterfront vibes, amazing service, and food and drinks that actually deliver. Definitely one of my favorite spots so far in Baltimore, and 100% somewhere I'll be bringing people when I want to impress.

The whiskey selection is impressive--this was actually my first time trying Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year, and it was incredibly smooth. If you're a whiskey drinker, you'll appreciate how extensive the selection is here. The bar menu is also surprisingly strong. I highly recommend the burger, and the crab cake is made with real lump meat--not imitation!!! The bartender was very knowledgeable and offered great recommendations throughout the night. Weekends can get pretty busy, but it's still a great spot for drinks and small bites.
